How can he fulfill his duties when he awakens to a pitch-black world?

Lord Christopher Westing, heir to a dukedom, with his strong jaw and blue eyes, is a veritable god to the women who pursue him. What’s more, his future holds a prominent place in Parliament. Life grows even grander when he realizes the only woman for him has been right there all along. And then it all disappears!

Will she lose him so soon after he’s found her?

The esteemed but reticent Lady Jane Chatley lets her heart be captured after one extraordinary night changes everything—a kiss like nothing she has ever imagined. She would gladly belong to Lord Westing, if only she could fend off her arranged, dismal future.

An unimaginable accident and a life in tatters…

When Christopher plunges into a terrifying new world, both his sunny disposition and his will to live disappear as swiftly as the light in his eyes. With Lord Darkness pushing everyone away and Jane’s own problems growing ever more dire, how will she make him believe in what he can no longer see—before it is too late for both of them?

Engaging characters, attention to period detail, and passionate romance with a touch of intrigue—you’ll find it all in the stories by USA Today bestselling writer Sydney Jane Baily.

I really wonder what happened to the heat in this story. I mean, you say a book is about a Beastly Lord, and I expect a steamy romance, no matter what his injury. He still has his imagination, right? Anyway, this is a DNF for me. I think authors sometimes forget to include a romance in their romance story. Maybe if you like stories with low heat levels, you'll like this one. Someone mentioned that it turned to smut after 60%. I only made it through 54% of a relationship that was basically standing still and then I lost interest. I might try another one in this series, but if that guy doesn't have something beastly about him, then I'm done.

    ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
    💋💋
An author I could quickly come addicted to .
Sydney Jane Baily is so good at what she does , and this series is wonderful.

Christopher has the world at his feet , years of playing the game so to speak , as the heir to a Dukedom he has everything to look forward to .
When he meets Lady Jane at a ball he realises the woman he’s been looking for has been near him , within his reach, most of his adult life .
That moment changes both their lives .
She has loved him many years , hopefully waiting for him to open his eyes and see her .
Finally it looks like they will have their Happily Ever After .
When tragedy strikes neither are ready for it , both want to continue with the relationship but how can things ever be the same .

With tragedy, hope, tears , laughter, high emotions , and an everlasting love this book will rock you from one emotion to the other .

Be prepared for anything. I loved every page and recommended you to read the whole series, though they can be read as stand-alones they are part of the same world .

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

DNF at 60% when I could take no more

This started out promisingly enough, but then became bogged down with 'historical' facts to the extent that I wondered if they whole book was going to be full of the author's research. We really don't need all the details.

And just when it started to get more interesting, it turned into smut. Meh. Ick.

From the Dark to the Light💘

ADULT Alpha Male Victorian Romance💕 and Adventure💥

This is a special novel in that it has two main stories . Christopher, the Marquess of Westing has it all! He is popular in parliament, he is handsome and the most eligible bachelor in the country. He is heir to a dukedom!

From afar, he is admired by Lady Jane, a young woman he doesn't even know exists, until one 🌙night, they finally meet and sparks fly.

Just as they are getting to know each other , a horrible accident occurs which changes their lives forever.

Christopher is badly hurt in a gas explosion in his family's kitchen, while workmen are attempting to install a gas stove and oven. He was in the wrong place at about he wrong time! Luckily, he survives, but is blinded by damage to his optic nerve.

Christopher decides his life is over and retreats into a very dark place, refusing to even try to move around the mansion, let alone go out into the rest of London .

He even tries to discourage the attentions of Jane. Thank Goodness she doesn't give up easily!

This is an ADULT Victorian Romance with ADULT situations.
I found the book a very interesting, fast paced read with some angst, but not overwhelmingly so. The author has done a fine job of representing the Victorian era and the customs and society norms of that time period. There is even some true history mixed in with the story.

London 1850 Lord Christopher Westing seem to be on top of the world. The Marquess of Westing was heir to a dukedom, unmarried and very handsome with women in pursuit. Seeing two of his friends his thoughts were "Champagne and lovely ladies-he ought to be in heaven." But in his heart he was tired of being considered a catch for all the single ladies looking for a title and money. He knew what he wanted in a wife but had not found her so far.
But when an unexpected encounter with Lady Jane, whom he had know, but thought was a snob, the "spark" he was looking for erupted! Lady Jane on the other hand had loved him from afar for many years and it looks as if they have met their match!
Unfortunately fate steps in and the devastation happens to Christopher, it seems their future may be more difficult but could they be happy?
Sydney Jane Baily has energized my reading world with her emotional stories that wrap around my heart and leave me only wanting more. Love, devastation, humor, endurance and hope that they may have their happy ending if only forces will let them!!
Although part of a series it can be read as a standalone, but trust me you want to read them all!!

If you have not read the 4 books in the Beastly Lords Series, you are missing great stories & wonderful characters that Ms. Bailey has created for the reader's enjoyment. Lord Christopher Westing, heir to a dukedom, popular in the Ton with many male friends & young ladies & their mamas trying to snag a proposal, he has a future in Parliament working for the less fortunate. He attends a ball one evening & encounters Lady Jane Chatley outside on the terrace, they have been acquaintances for a few years ( she has had a secret crush on him but he never noticed her) & they have a short conversation. Chris really looks at Jane for the first time & suddenly see things he had never noticed before - he feels drawn to her with an undeniable attraction & thinks she felt it too - then a life altering accident took place.

Lady Jane is strong & will not let Chris give up after the accident - she pushes him do get moving by using her caring attitude, some witty arguments & her highly organization skills. Their emotional, funny, romantic journey begins here & getting to their HEA will test their love. I highly recommend the entire series to all historical romance readers who also enjoy some spice in their reads.

    Loved this happy ending.

Lord Christopher, a duke’s son, has decided it’s time to marry, but he can’t seem to find the right bride. Unlike his peers, he doesn’t wish to mary for the simple sake of alliances, but he’s hoping to find a ‘spark’ that comes with a love match.
Lady Jane has had several seasons, and hasn’t found the right man for her either, despite her mother’s machinations. But she and Christopher have known each other through acquaintances for quite awhile.
One evening, frustrated and tired of ballrooms, Jane is out in the gardens alone. Christopher comes upon her and they have an unexpected and unusual conversation which opens his eyes to a new view of Jane. He begins to feel a ‘spark’ might be something that Jane has that makes her unique.
As he begins to court Jane their relationship deepens and the longing and heat between them grows, but events that are beyond their control affect both their lives pull them apart. Both must decide what if anything they can do to be together or if they have lost each other to fate.
This is a romance with wonderful elements, terrific characters, an interesting plot, twists and intrigue, it’s really good! I recommend it to anyone who longs for a happy ending.

Lady Jane Chatley is a confident woman who is not particularly interested in being married off, yet she has always had a secret liking for Lord Christopher Westing. When he finally notices her, they begin a flirtation, but then events take an unexpected and unfortunate turn. There are various misunderstandings and both of them are trying to feel their way through their relationship with each other.

The book is well-written and neatly formatted. I liked both characters, even if there were times their behaviour verged on irritating for a variety of reasons. I did feel it was perhaps drawn out a little too much and I felt my interest dipping a little. I cannot speak as to historical accuracy (which means that I don't particularly care as long as it isn't anything glaring).

One thing I did find annoying was the heroine constantly calling her mother "mummy". I have no idea if this is likely for a lady in this time period, but I did find it irritating and it grated on my nerves every single time.

This is not a clean romance for those who care about such things. I'm not criticising, merely giving prospective readers a heads-up.

Overall, I found this to be quite a pleasant read.

Lord Christopher Westing is a lucky man. Surrounded by his loving if sometimes crazy, family and good friends. He enjoys his time in Parliament with his father, learning how to be a productive member of the house of Lords. Then an "improvement" to the town house turns everything to darkness.
Lady Jane Chatley spends her time helping as many people and charities as she can. She hopes that by the end of this season she can happily declare herself on the shelf and enjoy life as a spinster. The only man she wants has just never noticed her.
This story certainly puts all our emotions to the test. There are times I wanted to smack our hero and others I just wanted to comfort him. Much like our heroine. She is a very strong and capable young woman who loves her mother, even when she us pushing her to get married. Her father unfortunately is not a respectable man. Flaunting his excesses when he is in the country.
I liked that there is no miracle quick fix. It made for a much more interesting story.
    I loved it.

Lord Christopher Westing, heir to a dukedom has the world at his feet and he’s been looking for that perfect someone who will peak his interest, give him the spark he’s been looking for in a future wife. He's looking for a love match. At one of the balls he usually attends an unexpected encounter with Lady Jane Chatley, a lady he’s known for three years has peaked his interest. He’s only ever thought of her as a snob, but as he’s talking and listening to her the "spark" of interest he was looking for engulfs him as no other has before. Lady Jane has admired Christopher from afar, he never noticed her before, but he’s been on her mind and her heart and now he’s in her life.
After a tragic accident he loses his eyesight, he become a blind man and he’s knows he’s not good enough for any woman. Can Jane get through to him, can she convince him as no other has been able to that life is worth living and worth living with her and their love. A great story of a torn love soon to lost unless love can conquer all!!! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

After a chance meeting Lord Westing can’t get Lady Jane out of his thoughts. Wondering how he never noticed her before. Lady Jane has always had a secret crush for Lord Westing and after their meeting she is floating on a cloud. When Christopher doesn’t show up to call in her Jane is hurt, not knowing that he was in a terrible accident. After His accident Christopher is full of self pity and figures his life is over, but Jane is not going to let that happen. This was such a good story, I absolutely loved it. I loved both Jane and Christopher’s characters. Talk about inspiration this story gives you lots of it! This book is part of a series but definitely a stand alone, but I have read them all and loved them! Definitely recommend this one!

Beautiful story of triumph and love after tragedy

This was a beautiful story that turned a tragedy into triumph and all because of love. Christopher finally finds the woman of his dreams in Jane but just when happiness is within his grasp, his world is turned upside down when he is injured and left blind. Jane was expecting a proposal from Christopher but then an accident causes Christopher to decide that he has to let Jane go rather then tie her to the blind invalid he has become. Jane must find a way to get through to Christopher or loose the love of her life forever. Great book and one I highly recommend.

  • Deanna

A beautiful story of love against the odds

Jane and Christopher, what can I say, but just the most adorable couple.
And just when their budding friendship was turning serious an accident befalls Christopher, changing his life forever.

If not for the unwavering commitment of Jane he would still be wallowing in his self pity. But Jane won’t allow it. She fights for them both but will it be enough?

A great supporting cast really drew this book together in a wonderful way. Absolutely loved it.

This is a first time author for me and as my usual habit I started a series not at the beginning but I really don’t think it matters. Just sit back and enjoy

    Love is indeed blind

Christopher finally notices Jane after her waiting for almost 3 years! Jane was infatuated and finally Christopher saw her and was smitten! A horrible accident and blindness convinced Chris that Jane would be better without him! The road to this HEA is very tumultuous but Jane forces Christopher to look for the good in being alive!

    Beautiful

This series just keeps getting better! I have loved Westing and Jane from Maggie's book. I was absolutely thrilled that they found one another. The characters are wonderful. The book has a nice flow and held my interest. My only complaint was that I thought that perhaps the affliction would not be permanent, although it was still a beautiful story.

    Romance

I'm torn with this s series. I've Goodreads ven two five stars and DNF two. This one is another wonderful and heartbreaking romance. I love the way Jane and Chris fell in live. Jane wasn't afraid to speak her mind to him and he opened up to her in a way that allowed them to grow closer.

After nearly three Seasons, the man Lady Jane has a tendre for, finally notices her. Unfortunately before a courtship can be formalised Christopher suffers a life changing accident, which affects him both physically and mentally. I loved how strong Jane was and her care for others - she doesn’t let Christopher push her away but instead badgers him to get out and about.
