Shielding the Amish Witness Reviews

Wow. This book is intense. From the moment you read the opening sentence until you finish the book, you’re going to be non-stop into it. You will have to keep reading because you can’t seem to tear your eyes off the pages.

As the title implies this is not your standard Amish fiction. Well, I mean it does have two people who might have had a life together in the Amish community if Faith had not left as a child with her parents. She and Eli had a bond. But can that past bond save them all now? Or did Faith just bring death to all their doors?

So, Faith’s dad wasn’t happy Amish and he had them leave the community. Not that uncommon. The uncommon part comes when he makes Faith believe that his parents, her grandparents, are dead. She thinks she has no connection left to the community she once loved.

That is until one day when she finds out that all that she believed was a lie. And we’re not just talking about her Amish past and relatives now. We’re talking about her dead husband who was actually involved in some pretty underhanded things. And his brother.

Now that brother is out to kill Faith because she knows what he’s been doing. He killed his own wife in front of her so she knows what he’s capable of. When she flees she runs to the only safe spot she’s known. Her Amish community. But now with death beating at her door(literally) she wonders if she did the right thing.

This is a wonderful fast-paced book and I hope you get the chance to read it. I really loved it and think you will too.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Shielding the Amish Witness by Mary Alford has Faith Cooper St. Clair on the run after witnessing her brother-in-law kill his wife. She has crucial information that could put him away. Faith knows that he cannot let her live. She heads for the one place where she knew love and safety which is her grandmother’s home in West Kootenai, Montana. Faith just needs to make there alive. Shielding the Amish Witness is a fast-paced suspense novel. It starts off with a bang with the story zipping along until the conclusion. I thought this story was well-written with complex characters. The story is told from Eli Shetler and Faith’s point-of-view. It allows us to get to know each character plus what they are thinking. It is an intense story full of action, violence, and faith. I was happy that there was an epilogue that nicely wrapped up the book. I enjoyed catching up with Aaron and Victoria Shetler from Covert Amish Christmas. I look forward to the stories of the other three Shetler brothers. Shielding the Amish Witness is a story that you will keep you riveted until the very last page. Shielding the Amish Witness is spellbinding tale with burning bullets, rapid buggy rides, a near fatal fire, a malevolent murderer, essential evidence, and a culpable conscious.

My thoughts: Mary Alford iis a top Amish romantic suspense author, this is formula romantic suspense which has non-stop action but is kind of predictable because you know what will happen. It does keep the pages turning though as you wonder who done it and why. I liked the main characters and if you like romantic suspense Amish fiction you will likely enjoy this book. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own

Faith Cooper trusted the wrong man and now she is running for her life. Her husband and best friend have been killed and she has no one to turn to but the grandmother she last saw years ago. But returning to the home she was ripped away from is her only chance to escape the man now hunting her.

Eli Shelter has only recently returned to his home community. He never left his Amish faith behind just his family but now he needs them more than ever. Especially if he hopes to keep his childhood friend safe. He was always Faith Cooper's champion until the day her family cut all ties with their Amish community. And now she is back and she needs someone to once again be her protector. But he doesn't know just what he has gotten himself into...

Can Faith and Eli stay ahead of a killer long enough to find the proof they need to ta Faith Cooper trusted the wrong man and now she is running for her life. Her husband and best friend have been killed and she has no one to turn to but the grandmother she last saw years ago. But returning to the home she was ripped away from is her only chance to escape the man now hunting her.

If you are a fan of Amish suspense that is a clean read you will enjoy this offering from the Love Inspired Suspense brand. Faith and Eli are stuck dwelling on their respective pasts and the mistakes they made. It is nice revisiting the Shetler family (whom I first met in Covert Amish Christmas). All the action takes place during a couple of days so there is a lot crammed into this time period but that is to be expected with these books. If you want an afternoon escape to a not-so-peaceful Amish community in Montana this is for you!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Shielding the Amish Witness is a thrilling suspense story written by Mary Alford. I was drawn into this story from the first few pages and found it hard to put down. The author takes her readers on a journey that keeps them on the edge of their seats. Evil seems to be at every turn but how can an Amish man keep his childhood friend safe as they try to recovery the evidence to clear her of murder. Just when the couple think they have found a way to out run the dirty cop he shows up and tries to kill them again. This is a nail biting story for sure. The main characters are very likeable but the evil ones add a great deal to the story as well. The author has done an amazing job telling this thrilling story thru her characters and the plot of this story is also well developed.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars and highly recommend it to all those who love an inspirational suspense romance.

This story was almost non-stop action. It seemed as if the bad guy was unstoppable and just kept coming at Eli and Faith the entire time. He was a scary villain.

Faith had an Amish background but had lived many years in the English world when her father and mother left their community. I liked that she had been friends with Eli when they were younger. It helped their connection form quickly in this book.

Eli was haunted by the death of his wife and unborn child. He carried so much guilt and sadness around because he had been unable to keep them safe. I loved seeing him get a second chance at love with Faith.

This high-action novel was full of dangerous situations, the beginnings of a romance, and a villain who was determined to kill anyone who got in his way.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I was provided with the opportunity to honestly review this book, but the thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own!

Shielding the Amish Witness is one of those books that starts off with a bang and keeps going from there.  I was very pleasantly surprised by it!  While there were a few aspects that felt a little unrealistic, the story overall was very enjoyable.  I read the second half of it in just one sitting.  The plot pacing was pretty good, although with a little bit of repetition/information that was repeated often.  The characters are enjoyable to read and believable, and the moral struggle (protecting oneself versus following Amish peacekeeping values) was interesting and well-presented.  Reading this definitely made me want to check out Alford's other works.

  • Melissa Henderson

What an exciting story! From beginning to end, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen. Great story. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.

  • Rachel DeVaughn

I love reading a variety of Love Inspired Suspense books and have for years. I don’t typically read Amish fiction but decided to give this one a try.

I liked the main characters Faith and Eli, but I didn’t find the plot suspenseful or really even believable. For example, Faith is running from her brother in law who is a police officer and who has killed others; but yet she manages to escape him time after time even though she isn’t hiding very well or even protecting herself. It did not seem realistic to me at all.

Because of this I had a hard time getting into the story and enjoying it.

If you have read other books by this author or other Amish books, than you may like this even though I didn’t care for it.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Eli and Faith are both struggling with guilt from past mistakes. Both have returned home to the Amish community, reuniting an old friendship. Faith is trying to find safety from her brother-in-law, a dirty cop, that wants her dead because of evidence she has.

The story is fast-paced, page-turner of suspense that never lets up. As Faith runs for her life, Eli is determined to protect her.

The ending wrapped everything up nicely. The characters are interesting and even though frightened, showed tremendous courage. Leaning on God's promises and prayers for protection, Eli & Faith try to fight the attraction they still have for each other. They soon learn that maybe God has other plans for their lives. Great read and highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of the book and a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

  • Maureen Timerman

The author gives us a story about a young woman who tried to do what is right, and is now on the run for her life. Faith Cooper has left NY and traveled to Montana to her roots, and her Grandmother in her Amish Community.
Now danger has found her, and she feels she has put all in danger. Somehow she has found her old childhood friend Eli, and it is surprising how he found her.
These two are now both on the run for their lives, and it seems like the killer will stop at nothing.
If you like a book with non-stop action this one is for you, don’t hold your breath, one action leads quickly to another, and then another!
In the end you never know who will survive or who will live to the next day, or if justice will be served.
This is one quick read, and you will never see most things coming.
I received this book through Celebrate Lit, and was not required to give a positive review.

  • Doctor Anonymous

I actually wanted to like the book; good values, love is more than sex, a world-life view more philosophical than only the pursuit of pleasure, etc.

But it was so simplistic, almost childish. I kept waiting for it to gain some excitement and literary appeal, but it didn't happen. Possibly written for a 2nd or 3rd grade audience?? That would explain the literary level.

1 * might be a bit harsh but it was not engaging, unfortunately.

  • Sarah

“The foundation holding her world together crumbled and she realized everything had been a lie. There was nothing perfect about her life.”

A word to the wise: do not read this book if you are looking for a laidback, cozy-style mystery! With the exception of the epilogue, from page one until the end this is an adrenaline-fueled race that will have you looking over your shoulder for any villains. Though perhaps not especially unique for being set within an Amish community, Mary Alford does make “Shielding the Amish Witness” stand out for the interesting comingling of characters. Faith Cooper, fleeing her brother-in-law after discovering evidence linking him to her husband’s murder, turns to her grandmother and the Amish community to which she belonged years ago. Her childhood friend, Eli Shetler, has also returned after tragedy, and he makes it his mission to protect Faith. There is so much at stake, including hurting hearts, and an outcome that only God can determine.

As I read “Shielding the Amish Witness,” I kept thinking about how cinematic it is. It is very easy to picture this book as a Lifetime movie or as an episode of a true crime show, although the story itself is fictional. In some ways it reminds me of a clean horror movie, with the evildoer an indestructible force who always manages to get right back up and keep coming after the victim. I have to admit that while the cinematic aspect is one of this novel’s greatest strengths because readers can visualize the scenes, for me it is also a deterrent to some extent. I think it’s important to note, however, that I do not have any personal experience with the situations in the story, or with law enforcement, so I am not certain which situations may be commonplace. In my opinion, the scenarios feel a tad too dramatized and too repetitive, which stretched the credulity for me. I felt frustrated with how the characters seem to be stuck in a recurrent cycle, but at the same time I believe there is a lesson here. So many times we, myself included, do the same thing when it comes to sin and our relationship with God. We know what things we should avoid, and yet we still tend to fall into the same traps over and over on this journey through life, and until we confront whatever causes us to stumble and deal with it, there won’t be change. Thankfully, Jesus is with us every step of the way, and we can, as one of the characters in the story advises, “Live your life in the now and in the future. Don’t look back.”

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

“Faith appeared to be one more bad thing away from falling apart.” Oh, the tension here!!
Why you might enjoy Shielding the Amish Witness by Mary Alford.
First, the action is immediate. Faith Cooper St. Claire has just discovered her deceased husband’s note implicating both himself and his brother as crooked cops working for a ruthless drug dealer. When Faith shows her sister-in-law, Cheryl, this evidence, Cheryl is ruthlessly killed by a said brother-in-law, Vince, and Faith must flee for her life.
Secondly, Faith, Eli, and Sarah, the main protagonists, are not unbelievably intelligent people with whiz computer hacking skills. With extraordinary circumstances to be overcome,
they are normal people set against what should be a very peaceful Amish background. That juxtaposition helps lessen a little of the intensity of the high-octane suspense. If you are looking for true romantic suspense one or two notches below bordering on terror, this fits the bill nicely.
I love secondary characters who are the kind I would love to have in my life. Grossmammi Sarah is one of these, with “Never a negative word. Not even for the man who had torn apart their family.” She also fully embraces Faith’s return, loving her and waiting patiently for Faith to be ready to talk without pushing for answers. And so much peace, wisdom, and faith in Gott that can only come with years of practice, exercising our trust muscle.
Eli, I love because he is also broken and flawed, but he is faithful to his dear friend Sarah. Will that extend to Sarah’s beloved granddaughter, Faith?
    Highly recommended!

Shielding the Amish Witness is written by Mary Alford. This book is part of the Love Inspired Suspense line. This book will start off with the pedal to the metal - and will not let up. We meet Faith Cooper. Her husband was murdered by his brother. They were bad cops who were in with drug dealers. Faith finds out after her husbands death what they were really up to. Faith reaches out to her best friend, Cheryl who happens to be married to the killer. Vincent kills his wife in front of Faith. Faith flees the city and drives to the place where she was born. Her Amish Grandmothers home. Faith's family had left the Amish faith aburuptly when Faith was younger.

Danger follows Faith to snowy Montana. There is no way that Vincent will leave Faith alive. Especially since she has the evidence to put Vincent and a lot of others away for life. Faith's childhood friend, Eli is now her grandmothers neighbor. Eli is carrying around pain from losing his first wife. However, he respects Faith and her family and knows that he has to help keep her safe. However it may cost him and his family their lives.

This book is filled with non stop action. There are so many twists and turns. I was able to read this book over a period of 2 days. Make sure that when you start reading you have plenty of time to read.

Well written characters, very intriguing storyline and so much action. I have read several of this author's books and she always does a phenomenal job.

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all thoughts are my own.

The book is one of those that keep you on the edge of your seat. The action starts right away and I felt like I was watching a movie because it seemed so vivid. The author really stepped up her game in this story that features suspense, danger, greed and trust.

I couldn’t believe how fast Faith’s life was in danger. I don’t know why I was surprised since she was being hunted by a cop. The evidence she has can take down many in the police force and she has a target on her right away. I screamed every tine Vincent got close to finding her. My heart pounded when she found herself underwater. Oh my I would panic for sure about that time , but she kept her wits about her. I liked her determination to see justice served.

The story takes place in Amish country and I loved how Eli came to Faith’s aide without thought of his own safety. What makes the story so good is the cat and mouse game between Vincent, Eli and Faith. How can you feel safe in a buggy when a vehicle is racing towards you? The author does a good job of describing how Vincent continues to track them down.

The danger never lets up as the author gives us a taste of romance but it is not the focal point of the story. Faith must learn to trust again while Eli needs to forgive himself. They each have something from their past that draws them closer together as they race to keep themselves alive.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

LOVE Inspired Series and Amish Fiction is a MUST read book for me. I really enjoy the LOVE Inspired books. I have read books by Mary Alford before and I really enjoy her writing. Shielding the Amish Witness is her latest book and I had the pleasure to read it recently.

Faith Cooper has to go into hiding. She was witness to her Brother-in-Law killing his wife. Her BIL is also the one who killed her husband, his own brother. Faith has information that could put him in jail for life. She decides to go into hiding at her Grandmother's residence, in Amish Country. She realizes she has put herself and those in Amish Country in more danger. Her childhood friend, Eli Shetler decides to protect her from the BIL who is trying to locate her and could very soon. Will her BIL be able to find her? Will Eli succeed in keeping her safe? Will Faith stay in Amish Country if/when things are safe?

I LOVE a book that keeps me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning and this book did just that. The storyline was soo suspenseful and I could not put the book down. I finished reading it with 2hrs. Faith had such determination, but she also wanted to stay safe. I LOVE how Eli stepped up to help her when he saw the need. A wonderful story and I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction with a bit of Mystery and Suspense. This is the second book in the series, but it reads great as a Stand alone! GREAT BOOK!

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Shielding the Amish Witness. I'm a big fan of Mary's work and I'm always excited to get one of her books. This one is well written, action packed, and full of faith. I know you are going love it.

Faith Cooper is on the run. She found a note from her deceased husband telling her that if she is reading this then his brother had killed him. He gives her evidence of the crimes they have committed and tells her not to trust the cops. She tells her best friend, her sister-in-law. Her brother-in-law shoots her and then comes after Faith. Faith rusn to the only place she feels safe, back to the Amish community where she grew up. He follows her and runs her off a bridge and into an icy creek. She loses her evidence but is rescued by a childhood friend.

Eli Shelter is a widower accused of causing his wife and unborn baby's death. He exists but just barely. He rescues Faith and is determined not to let her down. She brings his heart back to life. He must protect her. Every step they take is met by this killer. How can he keep her safe and his family?

A horrifying journey to survive the attacks of the dirty police officer. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan of peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch HIm work even in this time of chaos.

Shielding the Amish Witness might not be a very long read... but that doesn't mean it's lacking in action. Right from page one these pages are absolutely packed with action. Just when you think you might have a minute to breathe, the chase picks right back up. As such, it certainly was hard to put down.

I must admit at times I felt myself starting to think that perhaps it wasn't quite all that realistic in how long the chase seemed to go on. Certainly a trained lawman would have ended the chase sooner... or help would have been reached! And while perhaps that may be true, I think it does serve as an interesting reminder of how differently the Amish live--- having to rely on a buggy for transport certainly will slow things down and no immediate access to call the cops. When I thought about it that way, it helped me to wrap my head around the idea a bit better. I think it could also be said that it was a nice story of God's protection too!

This book is the second in a series, and while the lead characters from the previous book do make an appearance, it's not necessary to have read that book to enjoy this one.

If you enjoy Amish suspense and are looking for a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat right from page one, this is one to check out.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Shielding the Witness by USA Today Bestselling Author, Mary Alford is a Christian Amish Romance Suspense that will have you turning page after page to see what will happen next. It is one of the Love Inspired Suspense line of books.

I was immediately invested in the story and characters. This book starts off with a lot of action and keeps up the pace. There are twist and turns to keep readers interested.

This is the story of Faith Cooper. Her husband was murdered by his brother. She doesn’t know where to turn. There is a lot of heartache, action, mystery, and suspense involved with the brothers and those that are associated with them.

Faith finds herself in danger and leaves to find shelter with another family member. She runs into an old friend. He wants to keep her safe, but will he be able?

Author Alford has a wonderful writing style. With well rounded, believable characters and a knowledge of the Amish lifestyle, she wove an action filled story that had me captivated. The surprises kept me on my toes and guessing. The spiritual and life lessons were timeless.

Spend some time with this riveting tale. It is entertaining and will keep you trying to solve what might happen next. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.

Faith Cooper just witnessed her best friend being killed by the same man who killed her husband a year ago. Now, she is on the run, back to the Amish community that was once her home, and the person who steps in to help is her childhood friend Eli Shetler. How will this Amish man, who shies away from violence, hope to protect Faith from a crazed and evil criminal who is intent on silencing her forever!

Shielding the Amish Witness is a fast-paced suspense story that begins with a terrifying car chase, and the danger and action never let up. Author Mary Alford excels in writing nail-biting scenes that take you to the edge, and leave you wondering how much more the "good guys" can endure. Faith, Eli, and Victor possess the best and worst qualities in human nature, but Alford never fails to include a chance for forgiveness and redemption for the characters in her stories. Both Faith and Eli have deep hurts from their pasts. Is it possible for them to find love and peace in West Kootenai, Montana?

If you're looking for exciting romantic suspense that keeps you turning the pages, you will want to read Shielding the Amish Witness. I enjoyed catching up with Aaron and Victoria Shetler, from a previous book, and I look forward to learning more about the Shetler family!

I received a copy of this book from the author via Celebrate Lit. These are my own thoughts.

  • Gail Hollingsworth

This novel starts off with a bang and never lets up! Faith is returning to her hometown she grew up in. She is running from her past and trying to outrun a dirty cop that has it in for her. Eli, a friend of her grandmother Sarah, joins her on her quest to get lost evidence against this man as she runs for her life. This story is full of action and flying bullets. It was kind of fun realizing that Eli and Faith were traveling in an Amish horse and buggy trying to outrun the dirty cop in a large pickup truck. Every time he would get close and be in their faces they would find a way to escape and continue running. But will they prevail? The dirty cop Vincent is scared for his own life from his drug dealing boss, Ghost. If he doesn’t find Faith and end her life, he will die!
Amish are supposedly peace loving people so reading about them having guns and shooting them at the enemy was interesting. This will be a book that I will be thinking about for a long time. If you like shoot’em up suspense this is a must read for you!
I received a complimentary ebook from the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are strictly my own.

What I think you should know:
Shielding the Amish Witness by Mary Alford is an Amish Romantic Suspense. It is set in the same Amish community as some of her previous books.. If you don't want spoilers you will need to read Covert Amish Christmas prior to reading this book.

What you might need to know:
Faith’s husband was a cop who she thought was “killed in the line of duty”.
Eli lost his wife Miriam in a tragic fire prior to the start of this book.

What I think about this book:
If you have ever read one of Alford’s Romantic Suspense you know what a treat you are in for, if you have not the hang on for an adrenaline packed adventure. Alford takes you on a wild ride as Faith tries to escape her husband’s killer by returning to her childhood home. This story was full of suspense but low on the romantic side as Faith rediscovers her friendship with Eli, who she adored as a child, as he tries to protect her from danger. I loved this book and hope that the author will continue the series with Mitch so that we can know his story!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

This book started out with action and just didn't stop. Faith is on the run from her brother-in-law and is trying to get to safety. For her, that means where she grew up and had to leave when she was quite young. It means her grandma's place. Unfortunately, her brother-in-law catches up to her before she gets there and tries to kill her.

There was a lot going on with Faith and her past. Her brother-in-law isn't just anyone, he's a cop. And he and her late husband were doing terrible things together. She has the evidence to put him away, she just needs to stay alive and get it to someone who will believe her. Eli was a great character. In the right place at the right time. He also has issues from his past that he has to deal with and he wants to protect both Faith and her grandma. Overall, it was a great book.

It was a 5/5 for me.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

  • Patti Whitson Stephenson She Lives to Read

The word I’d use to describe this book is “intense”. From the first page until the very end of the book, there is never a moment when the main character, Faith, is not in grave danger. This storyline is different from many suspense stories as the villain and the heroine meet several times throughout the book, and each time, it seems as it’s impossible for Faith to survive. It’s also a very stark contrast between the non-violent Amish way of life and the violence of evil men in the world. Although we don’t get to know these characters in a deep way, we get to know them well enough to care about them and to hope for Faith and Eli to realize that their future together could turn out to be their happily-ever-after. This book will definitely keep you turning pages as Faith and Eli run for their lives. As with all Love Inspired books, this is a clean story with no foul language.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Another suspenseful Amish story from Mary Alford!

Seeking refuge from a murderer, Faith Cooper returns to her grandmother's home in a quiet Amish community. Childhood friend Eli Shetler offers protection, but will the threat of danger—and growing feelings—prove to be more than they can handle?

Shielding the Amish Witness is an exciting read, packed with action, danger, and romance. The twists and turns of the story that unfolds around Faith and Eli kept me guessing and intrigued, and I absolutely had to know how it would all end. Definitely an entertaining read!

Faith Cooper flees after the murder of her husband and heads back to her roots in Amish country. She believes her grandparents are dead, but hopes to still find refuge in the community her dad tore her from as a child. Her old friend Eli Shelter helps her try to hid from those seeking to harm her, but the danger explodes and continues to follow them as they race to escape it. I was surprised at all the violence in this Amish story since the Amish are nonresistant. If any of them hit or shot at a person, they would need to repent and confess before the church, but these characters didn’t seem to show much remorse. The story is suspenseful and exciting, and the characters make you care what happens to them, but don’t expect a peaceful Amish read. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

  • Carol Keen

Going home again wasn't the plan, but when Faith found out her brother-in-law took her husband's life. Fleeing death, and people who aren't what they were supposed to be wasn't part the life she'd expected. Now in cold Montana, she's hiding with unexpected lies being exposed, a ton of action and suspense is constantly happening. Hiding with her rather brief Amish roots seems to be the only refuge. Eli, who might be part of her future and was a friend when she was young, is trying to help her. Is there a hope and future if she can stay alive and everyone could not get killed? I found her to be a good character as well as Eli. The suspense was constant, the faith based message was just fine, and I read this faster than I'd expected.
