    4 Kick-ass Harpy Stars

The Darkest Whisper is book 4 in the Lords of the Underworld series, and it was a good read. I liked Sabin the keeper of Doubt, but I didn't love him. He was hot and cold too much for me. He wanted Gwen, so he would stay away from her or act cold. I wanted more romance. Gwen on the other hand was amazing. The Harpies were so much fun. I thought Gwen and Sabin made a cute couple. Gwen and her sisters were interesting and I hope we get more harpy time. The plot was good. The gifted kids were cool I would have liked a bit more of their stories. I loved getting to see past couples. My heart hurt for Gideon. The things he suffered in this book. I can't wait for Maddox and Ashlyn's baby to be born. Overall a good book for the series and I can't wait to read more!

Her gaze skittered away from him. “It was okay, I guess.”
He popped his jaw. It was okay. She guessed. She f*cking guessed. By gods, he’d give her another demonstration.

This is my favorite LOTU so far :) Great book with the first half of it being absolutely amazing <3

The Lords have gone to Egypt searching for the third artifact that will help them find Pandora' Box, but instead of the artifact they find a Hunter facility full of pregnant woman, who are all immortal in some way.
One of the women isn't pregnant, but is feared by all, even Hunters.
She is Gwendolyn, and has been imprisoned for a year inside the pyramid.
For some reason Sabin is the only one that she trusts, and when he frees her, he takes her into his care.
After finding out the huge power Gwen possesses, Sabin plans to bring her into their was as a weapon, but one he first must train to prevent a bloodbath.
After he starts having feelings for her, he will have to make a choice between love or war.

Gwendolyn the Timid is a harpy with great power, but one she doesn't know how to control. She was always the weak one in the family, and is afraid what her sisters will do when they find out that she's been imprisoned for a year.
She wants to stay with Sabin in the fortress, even though he treats her like a prisoner in his room (ehehehehe), and ultimately Gwen decides to help him with the war and train her powers :)

    --------------------------------

I totally loved Gwen! She wasn't suck a kick-ass, especially in the beginning, but maybe it's because Sabin's uber-protectiveness came out in full force so yes, that is something I love :D
Oh and I loved what she did in the end, , that was awesome :)

Sabin is the keeper of Doubt, a demon who enjoys whispering to other people, making them question everything, even themselves.
He has to tell the truth all the time, and hasn't been in a relationship for years because his last lover ended her life because of his demon.
That's why he doesn't want to get close to anyone anymore, he can't control his demon, and doesn't want someone to suffer because of him.
He is uber-protective to Gwendolyn, but cruel at the same time, trying to distance himself as much as he can.
War always comes first for him, and with that he plans to train Gwen into a weapon against Hunters.
That will become a problem when his protective instincts kick in, and he'll be forced to make a decision between protecting Gwen and winning the war.

    --------------------------------

    Sabin *sigh*
Me loves him :) Especially in the first half when he was a jerk to her ahaha I just love them behaving like jerks, I can't help it :D
But then he was uber-protective and I like those too <3
So he is the perfect combination for me <3
Anyway there was one time when I wanted to kick him for being an idiot, but oh well he redeemed himself :))))
Oh and the scene when he was taking care of Gwen after the ... Love! <3

“Gwendolyn, Gwendolyn. Gwen.” Anya tapped her chin with a long, sharp fingernail. “Sorry, not familiar.”
“Gold eyes, red hair. Well, strawberry-blond hair.”
Her bright blue gaze suddenly glittered. “Hmm. That’s interesting.”
“What? The hair color?” Didn’t he know it! He wanted to plow his fingers through it, fist it, spread it over his pillow, his thighs.
“No, that you called it strawberry-blond.” A tinkling laugh bubbled from her. “Does little Sabin have a crush?”
His teeth ground together in irritation as heat flooded his cheeks. A blush? A f*cking blush?

    --------------------------------

“William has a tattoo of his own face on his back. He says it’s ’cause he doesn’t want to deprive the people behind him of his beauty.”

Well like I said, this is my favorite book so far!
And now you're thinking, why the 4 stars then?
Well for some reason the writing style bugs me in every book, not always but usually at the end where it just gets too sweet :(
And yes now you're thinking; Blacky you moron, you love sweet, wth is your problem?
Yes, I love sweet, but here... I wish it was toned down a bit :(
The series has such a dark feel to it and I just wish it would keep it throughout the book, but for me it gets too sugary and I don't know :((
I still loved the book but gah :( it just bugs me for some reason.
    Anyway, what else...
This book had the hottest sex scene in the series so far :)) Me totally likey :)
The big fight at the end was great, wish they'd do that more often :)
I hate Legion :D and the relationship with her and Aeron is uber-freaky and weird.
I am very intrigued about Torin cause some stuff was revealed about him here, and there is a character from another series mentioned, shoot me now but I can't remember, anyway I am thinking she could be his woman.
There are lots of new female characters, and I'm thinking they'll be paired off with the Lords :))) Can't wait to see that :)

And so, off to the next one, Aeron and his stalker ehehehehheheheh

    Sabin:Demon of Doubt
Butterfly: on right rib cage and waist
His curse: His demon creates insecurities to everyone including unfortunate Sabin. His self-doubts do not let him be happy and they make him constantly miserable. Fighting and killing is his only pleasure.

Gwen Skyhawk or Gwendolyn the Timid:Harpy
Supernatural ability: She is an immortal (although for the time being is only 27 years old) and very strong (although she does not particularly crave violence). The great mystery is who Gwen’s father is. She thinks that he is an angel.

Sabin is the co-leader of the Lords of the Underworld with Lucien. His demon of Doubt is his strongest weapon. He whispers words of insecurities and creates strong emotions of self-doubt. Most of his enemies commit suicide when they listen at the whispers for a long time.
Moreover his last lover, Darla, had killed herself because of the voices and he’d vowed not to get involved again. And then one day he meets Gwen. And he wants her. And Doubt wants her, too.

    “I want her.”
“I want her, too”, Doubt piped up.
“You can’t have her”. Which meant he couldn’t either. “Remember Darla? As strong and confident as she was, you still managed to break her down.”
Gleeful laughter. “I know. Wasn’t it fun?”
His hands fisted at his sides. Fucking demon.

Gwen was imprisoned by Hunters for a year, until Sabin and the Lords saved her. Sabin really desires to keep her, but the rest of the Lords insist that she has to leave. Because surprisingly they are scared of her.

This time we learn about female beings stronger than the Lords. The Harpies: Gwen and her sisters Bianka, Taliyah and Kaia.

“The woman was going to kill him, and not because she was stronger and more vicious than he was. Which, if he thought about it, she was. He’d never ripped a man’s throat out with his teeth, and he was damned impressed that Gwen had. She’d made the Lords of the Underworld look like marshmallows.”

Gwen will be strong enough to defeat all the doubts (I honestly wanted to shout at Doubt sometimes as well “Oh shut up”) and the love between Sabin and Gwen will grow stronger and stronger.

“I can’t believe I resisted you, even for a second.”
    “More.”
“Have I told you yet how beautiful you are? How much I love you?”
    “More!”

It is so sweet and so right the way each of the lonely immortal warriors is mated and he finds happiness.

    3.5 stars out of 5

The Darkest Whisper is the fourth book of the Lords of the Underworld series, the story of Sabin, Keeper of Doubt, and Gwen Skyhawk, a powerful harpy.
So powerful she is that Sabin’s demon goes into hiding every time she is around. So not taming the beast here, but intimidating it.

    Sabin
I like Sabin, though he is often single-minded and stubborn. All he cares about is the war, and defeating their enemy. And in this regard he is not willing to take any risk.

“Everyone had a deep, dark fear. Again, even Sabin. He feared failure as much as Gideon feared spiders.”

    Besides that…
“He was the kind of man every Harpy craved. Powerful, a little wild, a lot wicked.
He could kill an enemy without guilt. He wasn’t afraid of hard work. He could be ruthless, without mercy, yet he was tender with her.”

    Gwen
Gwen's character is truly fascinating: her abilities, special harpy characteristics, and strength. She is a stronger and more dangerous creature than any of the Lords.
A frightened Harpy is an oxymoron.

It is not only physical strength, but mental too. Even so, Gwen has so many doubts and insecurities that the demon Doubt has nothing left to do. Slowly, she accepts her darker side and learns to handle her Harpy – with the help of Sabin.
“More than her appearance, he liked this newfound spirit. Despite his earlier grumblings to the contrary. Strength was damn sexy. Especially strength that didn’t come naturally. Though she was timid by nature, afraid of him, this house, even her own shadow, she was sitting calmly on his bed, questioning him, head high, refusing to back down. She was truly a remarkable creature.”

    The romance
I liked the fated connection between Sabin and Gwen: they are created for each other, and finally have found their other halves. The chemistry between them is blazing. I love first kisses, and theirs is worth mentioning:
His origins, forgotten. His past, of no consequence. Their audience, vanished as if they’d never been present. Only the two of them existed. Only the here and now mattered...
A kiss that left no room for fear.

What I disliked is the way Sabin proves his love for her, how he wins her trust. What Sabin has done is theatrical and irrational. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want

    The story
The storyline is thrilling. I enjoyed it much more than the romance. The Hunters’ long-term project, is really creepy. This proves that the Hunters have potential as antagonists, and it would be a mistake to underestimate them.

The venture of a group of Lords in Chicago and the fights in Budapest don’t go without damage. The Hunters don’t hesitate to use their creations in battles, and also have new paranormal allies.

And last but not least, Torin and Cameo surprised me, I loved them together. Torin is so very lonely. I just can’t help but adore him for his strength and humor. Though they are not meant for each other, their friendship with benefits is lovely and sexy.
“I told you to be naked when I got here. You were not a good boy.”
Used to her sorrowful voice, he didn’t flinch as the others always did. Inwardly or outwardly. That voice was a part of who she was — warrior to her core, beautiful disaster… unintentional nightmare. To him, it was a soulful melody, one that echoed within his own soul.

    My favorite quotes.

^^THIS WHISPER IS CUMMING OFF LOUD AND CLEAR!^^
    4.5

I like to talk about all the ways I love this book, I was really disappointed with book 3 in the series even though I loved it. Reyes was keeper of pain, so I expected all kinds of painful lovemaking did I get that? Nope! Reyes needed to call 1-800-TALK-VISHOUS (BDB series) or 1-866-ASK-SHADE ( Demonica Series). Well The Darkest Whisper was a winner, for some darn reason I was fascinated and fell in love with Sabin. Moreover, I love when all the boys get together and just rib each other to death, and it was nice to see other kick ass females step in. The women in this series were getting all damsel in distress, now we have women who know how to kick butt and take names like a real man. You don’t mess with the Harpies.

This is it here, this series is about the lords of the underworld, men condemned to suffer with demons that they helped unleashed from Pandora’s Box, now every warrior carries a demon within himself or herself. Such as Pain, Lies, Hope, Promiscuity, Violence, Disease and Doubt. This book is Doubt’s story. He is the leader of the pack, caught in war with humans who call themselves hunters; their main life goal is to destroy the lords. Of course, they look over the fact that they are more evil because they would harm anything standing in their way.

Sabin just discovered what the hunters have been doing, raping and impregnating immortals, to create their very own lethal army to destroy the lords. As you can tell, they see nothing wrong with that, because raping women is just a part of getting ahead in the war. While searching for artifacts they stumble upon a secret lab with pregnant immortals and women locked in cages. One stands out more than any other does and that is Gwen. This small waif like women isolated from the others, there has to be a reason is Sabin’s mind. Well he gets his answer when she moves lightning speed and rips a hunter’s throat out, before anyone could think to stop her.

Gwen is beautiful and small at least that is her outward appearance. Inside she is a Harpy a descendant of Satan, (yeh talk about things you don’t mess with), she is also half angel, yeh somewhere a god is really pissed off, and Satan is boiling with fury. When Gwen meets Sabin its instant attraction, all I wanna get you naked and leave bite marks all over your body. One thing is clear that Sabin can handle anything she dishes out. One problemo is his demon is a bitch, Doubt needed to be cut down in size and Gwen is right woman to do it, does not come easy though.

This book was one twist after another, and I was riveted. I really enjoyed Gwen, she was brave yet scared at times, her determination to keep moving ahead was what got me with her. Plus Sabin’s demon really didn’t have much work when it came to Gwen because she was very doubtful of herself and when she realized her potential, nothing could keep her down. Sabin all the ways I wanted him naked, and never doubting who is boss. With no idea of who he was, he ends up being my fave hands down. He and Gwen together, even Satan himself would have been burned. I am talking sexy blood drinking, clawing and biting. Nothing says good times like battle scars.

This one has many POV’s, some very shocking and equally disturbing. A few very good surprises and beautiful friendships. For one second I thought guy on guy love but that type of party only happens in my head, my fave book of the series so far. I read this on the subway smirking all the way to my destination, might have scared a few people when I busted out laughing. It's a good thing I am pretty and can pull off, 'I am the so cute please forgive me',lol. I am dying to see what happens to Paris (promiscuity) and Torin(disease). What will become of the lords only time will tell.

Oh how I loved Legion, that little demon rocks and her relationship with Aeron is just super cute.

5 No room For Doubt Stars!
This is the fourth book in the Lords of the Underworld series. It's the story of Sabin and Gwen.
Sabin the keeper of doubt and the fierce leader of the Warriors. He lives and breaths nothing but stopping the hunters. War and battle first and everything else can wait. That is until he stumbles upon Gwen.
Gwen is half harpy and half angel. She's very timid until she gets angry. Look out when she's angry! lol
In the last book the Warriors are ready to travel to Egypt to look for artifacts. They stumble upon a cave that is run by hunters and has prisoners locked up inside. Woman who are pregnant. Woman who are scared. They've been raped, beaten and had some of their powers removed so they won't harm the hunters. These hunters are using the woman as incubators. Getting them pregnant and then using their children for god knows what. Gwen is also in a cage. All the hunters are scared of her. She's the only one not pregnant. They warn Sabin not to open the cage. When Sabin sets her free she instantly kills one of the hunters. It takes everything in Sabin to calm Gwen down. She was super fast and powerful.
I loved Gwen. I really enjoyed learning about the harpies and the things they had to do to survive. Gwen was very possessive of Sabin. Her harpy inside her would start to show her anger if anyone even thought about touching Sabin.

A Harpy is a free spirit, but every so often one will encounter a male who…delights her. That’s the best word I can think of to describe the obsession. His smell and touch become drugs to her. His voice soothes her fury as nothing else is able, almost as if it strokes her feathers.
Oh yes...Sabin defiantly soothed Gwen's harpy down.

Sabin was also possessive of Gwen. He wanted none of his brothers looking at his beautiful Gwen. Even if he wasn't ready to admit he had feelings for her she was still his. I loved how Sabin's demon Doubt was scared shitless of Gwen when she was angry. lol Sabin wasn't scared of Gwen and he wasn't about to let her be timid. He is going to help her control her harpy and have her fighting right along beside him. She will help him win many battles with the hunters. Does Sabin train Gwen to control her anger? Does he let her fight along side of him?
I loved how protective Gwen's sisters were of her. I hope we are getting more of them in future books. Between them, William and Anya I was constantly laughing.
This book was also filled with action. Hunters are closing in. Now there are kids being brought in by the hunters with some crazy ass powers. We get some crazy info on Gwen's father. Shocking!! O.O
My heart is still breaking for Paris! I also was very choked up when they finally get to Gideon. Ugh! These men and what they go through is just plain awful! It's a good thing they are immortal!
I'm so excited to get to Aeron's book next. Yes tatted up Aeron the keeper of wrath who knows someone is watching him and scaring off his friend Legion. But this person has not shown her face. I have a feeling I'm going to love this one!

  • Danielle The Book Huntress *Pluto is a Planet!*

Although The Darkest Whisper wasn't a perfect book, I loved it. This world of the Lords of the Underworld has really grabbed a hold on me.

I wasn't that keen on Sabin's character in the previous books, but I ended up adoring the guy. He's actually got some traits I like in a hero. I respect him for his incredible skill as a warrior and military tactician. I like that he's very focused and determined. He seems to have a sense of honor, for the most part. I turns out he's pretty sentimental about women, and truly loved Darla, his lost love. I liked the way he treated Gwen, like she was important to him, even though he tried to tell himself she was merely a means to an end. I liked that he loved all of her, harpy part included, and strived to see that she was a capable warrior. Sabin was also a good leader. I could see why his men were devoted to him. He made me feel all warm and fuzzy, and it was hard to stay mad at him when he did something I didn't agree with. Because he was so sorry about it, and he thought he was doing the right thing.

As for Gwen, she was a very interesting character. I loved the harpy storyline. I haven't read too many books that had harpies as main characters. I like what Ms. Showalter did with the harpy folklore, making it her own, and giving them particular traits. Gwen showed a lot of growth over the course of this book, finding her inner strength, and learning to be comfortable with who she is. She's still a work in progress, but I think she's a great character. I also liked her sisters, although sometimes they were a bit annoying. I'm glad that Gwen found the inner strength to step out of their shadow, and to be happy with herself; realizing she isn't less than they are.

I loved the romance between Gwen and Sabin. I felt their bond and their chemistry very deeply. I liked how Doubt was afraid of Gwen, and her presence kept him quiet, especially when she became at peace with her inner harpy. I liked that Ms. Showalter let their chemistry build nicely. By the time the love scenes came around, I was like, "Heck Yeah!" Gwen and Sabin turned out to be my second favorite couple after Anya and Lucien.

Being able to catch up with the Lords and Co. and their women since the last book was another part of this book I enjoyed. I like their tight relationship, and the way they joke around with each other, but always have each others' backs. I am very psyched to read the stories of the Lords who haven't had books yet. I think they will be very interesting books.

On the downside, I finished this book last night, and I was so tired, it was hard to keep up with the last part of it. There was so much going on, and it was a little confusing. Despite that fact, I liked the storyline with the kids. That was pretty interesting. Another negative for me is that I don't really find Galen and Stefano to be compelling villains, but I hope that will change with the forthcoming books, or there will be some better villains in the next books. They're mainly just annoying jerks to me. The Hunters get on my nerves, for the most part.

Even though the ending left me confused, and it seemed to go by too quickly, and there were some large loose ends, I can't give this book less than five stars. I just enjoyed too much. There is something very addictive about this series, even though I can see some things that I wish were different (namely the Hunter storyline). I think it's because Gena Showalter does such a great job with paranormal romance, in my opinion. She writes about people who take hold of my interest, she's very funny, the romance steams off the page, and I end up enjoying myself tremendously when I read her books. I love what she's done with the Greek myths. She's taking some familiar things, and adding some novel touches to make a delectable confection. And I'll keep coming back for more.

    5 stars – Paranormal Romance

It’s been a while since I’ve immersed into the adventures of those sexy, angst-laden bad boy demon Lords, and I’d almost forgotten how much I love losing myself in their world.

I wasn’t too sure how I’d feel about The Darkest Whisper because Sabin (the keeper of the demon of Doubt) has never been one of my favorite Lords, but I was pleasantly surprised. As one of the LOTU leaders, he’s a total alpha who’s used to calling the shots and putting the war with the Hunters above everything else. His demon Doubt has cost Sabin every woman he’s ever tried to have a connection with, and after the painful loss of his last lover, he’s sworn off female companionship and given up on ever being able to have a real relationship.

When Sabin and the other warriors rescue Gwen from a Hunter’s prison, they get more than they bargained for, and maybe more than Sabin can handle. He feels an immediate, intense connection and explosive attraction to the mysterious, volatile Harpy, which is all the more troubling considering that Gwen seems to arouse his demon more than any other woman has before, while also bringing out his warrior’s protective instincts.

What can I say about Gwendolyn the Timid and her fellow Harpy sisters? Loved ‘em! They’re violent, unapologetic of their nastiness, sexy, and funny as hell. And when they team up with Anya, the goddess of anarchy, it’s a total Cyndi Lauper “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” kick-ass good time! Although Gwen’s character got on my nerves a few times, I loved when she began to accept herself and finally went all Dirty Harpy on some Hunter ass!

My only complaint (like several reviews that I’ve read) is the total WTH ending that left me completely stunned (and pissed). It just didn’t make any sense and so didn’t match with Sabin’s character, his previous actions, or the Lords’ warrior code. But, I’m trying to have faith and trust that Showalter had reasons for it that will make more sense as the series progresses.

I loved that this story featured all the beloved LOTU characters, including quite a bit from Lucien and Anya (she still cracks me up!), Aeron and his little demon girl pet/companion Legion, Gideon, and my boy Paris (the tortured warrior needs a HEA...fast!). It’s a great addition to the dark, fun, sexy, steamy LOTU series, and I can’t wait to see what Showalter has in store next! 5 stars!

How did i even live before?I don`t remember and i don`t care because "Lords of the Underworld"series are freaking awesome!!!We have artifacts to find, Hunters to kill and a box to destroy. In mids of all this the fierce warrior Sabin keeper of the demon Doubt saves a red-haired harpy with the name Gwendolyn,a creature he can`t keep his eyes off and he finds himself gradually losing his heart to her.And oh my,how i loved watching the cynical and coldblooded warrior being brought down his knees by a woman!I just LOVE THAT in my romance books!

Gwendolyn the Timid is a harpy that are afraid of her own dark nature. She thinks herself a coward at first and wants nothing to do with war,but Sabin encourage her to work side by side with him to destroy the enemy,it gets more complicated when they realizes that the enemy Galen keeper of Hope is actually her biological father. It gets even more complicated when Sabin and Gwen clearly can`t resist each other,so they fall madly and headlessly in love.It was sweet, fun, hot and so deliciously steamy..damn Showalter are good at writing steamy sex-scenes!

Sabin the keeper of demon doubt had a certain darkness to himself that the other warriors doesn`t have.It must be because of his victorious nature and can be much selfish when he wants to overcome the enemy and are ready to use anyone to get his goal. All this changes the moment he meets Gwen and his whole life suddenly revolves around her.I found him so cute at times when he didn`t know what to do with these intense over-consuming emotions. But he was honest, honorable, courageous and so loving towards Gwen,he worshiped the ground she walked on.I loved him and found him worthy as a hero for Gwen-these two are it and i hope they have a happy and fulfilling future ahead of them!

Gideon,Aeron,Torin,Amun and Paris calls to my soul.Damn i just LOVE them so much and want their stories RIGHT NOW or else i will go mad with curiosity. Its damn stimulating that Aeron feels attraction to his stalker who he haven`t ever met before,so i knew immediately that she is his soulmate.Paris is slowly destroying himself with drugs and my heart breaks for him,he still pines for Sienna.Wonder if he will see her on the painting Danika has painted of her dream? Please plzz let him see it!!!Nix from the "Immortals After Dark"-series appeared and i was jumping with happiness over that!My god i love her crazyness! It was fun meeting Anya,Lucien,William,Maddox,Ashlyn,Reyes and Danika-all of them have won pieces of my heart! This book gets 5 stars from me,they only get better everytime!

It had been ten years since I have read this series, and I am thoroughly enjoying my reread of it! I am also Buddy Reading it with my daughter which is an added bonus!!!

I will admit, I have forgotten most of this book! For me it was like reading it for the first time all over again! I can’t wait to rediscover the rest of what is to come!
This is a brilliant series that must be read by paranormal romance lovers!!

I read this book a few months ago, but just realized I hadn't caught up on my ratings and reviews...anyway, I loved this book!!! Reyes is still my favorite hero, but I really loved how this book started out and came together. Gwen is a fabulous heroine, and I loved watching her grow stronger with every page.

Gena gives me a freaking inferiority complex every time I read one of the Lords of the Underworld books! :) She's awesome!

If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend you start at the beginning, with The Darkest Night. The books just keep getting better and better! (And did I mention Reyes? Sigh...)

So... this, the fourth book in the Lords of the Underworld series, focuses on Sabin (keeper of doubt) who's previous luck with women has been pretty much non-existent as his tendency to generate doubtful thoughts leads to them becoming increasingly insecure and sometimes even going to the extreme of killing themselves over their personal doubts. Enter the Harpy: the only one capable of overcoming Sabin's demon - but, of course, she has some problems of her own to deal with first.

Sabin is now one of my favourite Lords of the Underworld, probably the sexiest of the group in my opinion. He's dangerous, but more fun than broody, miserable men are never a good idea: they just depress you. But I'm also finding that all of the novels follow a very similar pattern and that they are all predictable. Sometimes to the point of being quite cheesy. Basically, demon-harbouring hot guy sees the pretty girl of his dreams, he's struck dumb on sight and then spends most of the book trying to convince himself that either: a) She could never possibly like him, b) Even if she does like him, he's no good for her what with his all his big badness going on, or c) Both.

I admit that even though the series is a guilty pleasure, the stories are getting somewhat tiresome. I'm losing focus on the whole bigger picture of searching for the artifacts and Pandora's box, and the characters themselves are becoming a bit of a drag. Some scenes happen exactly the same in every single book - like the warriors turning up at the house in Budapest to be greeted by their over-enthusiastic girlfriends hurling themselves into their arms. It's like that stereotypical 1950's image of harmonious marriage where the housewife greets her husband with a kiss on the doorstep... ick.

Then of course, the shower scene. It was hot, don't get me wrong, but it was basically the same shower scene that we were treated to in book number one with Maddox and Ashlyn getting down and dirty in the bathroom. Maybe Ms Showalter can pull it back in the next book but I'm starting to feel she's exhausted this series, my care for it is waning and I'm beginning to get deja vu every two minutes because I'm reading the same thing she wrote in the last three novels. We've gone through Lords, demons, Harpies, fairies, angels, gods and whatever else... Karen Marie Moning carried off a 5 book series all about bloody fairies. Come on, I really want to get back into what I felt for these books when I first started.
The Darkest Passion, please don't let me down.

What I love about Sabin, Keeper of Doubt is the fact that he’s so hellbent on ending this war with Galen. As the leader of the Lords, he’s the determined and aggressive one who always makes the right decision in battle. I think it’s kind of ironic that his demon is Doubt because Sabin seems pretty sure of himself. He knows his duties and what’s expected of him to win this war. But when he encounters Gwendolyn the Timid, Sabin begins to second-guess his priorities.

Gwen is such a complex character. She’s a Harpy and a damn dangerous one at that, but there’s this separate side to her who is shy and unsure. I was worried that she wouldn’t be able to stand up against Doubt because she’s pretty self-conscious already. She’s so afraid of unleashing her Harpy for fear of hurting a loved one that she cowers away instead of embracing who she really is. Even though I think she’s got a long way to go, she’s improving and Sabin is the main reason for that. Through his never-ending love and support and his ruthless training, Gwen is becoming more and more capable.

In The Darkest Whisper, we also get to see Anya and Cameo in action. I love how Gena continuously adds other POVs throughout her series. It’s great to read about familiar characters. And I just love Anya’s spirit! She’s totally capable of kicking ass with the warriors. And the same goes for Cameo!

I hope I’m not the only one out there who hopes that the thing between Torin and Cameo continues. I would love to see them together as each other’s HEA. But I have a feeling that things might go another way since they can’t even touch each other without Disease’s wrath.

And speaking of cameos, seems like Torin’s got a little crush on Miss Pointy Ears. How cool is it that Nix from the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole makes an appearance? I’m so jealous of her.

    But I digress.

I thought that action in the book was really turned up a notch. So much happens and it’s fitting because Sabin’s probably the first one to head into battle. The book’s pacing was great and the love scenes were HOT! That forest scene after the training sesh? Yeah, steamy.

The only thing that kind of got me upset was the fact that Gwen just let Galen go in the end. Yes, I understand Gwen was battling emotions of seeing her father for the first time. Yes, I know that if they captured him the series would end and there would be no books left to read, but still. They just let him fly away? After all their efforts of seeking him out, they finally have him within reach and they let him go. Doesn’t seem fitting, especially from Sabin.

Anyways...The Darkest Whisper is another solid instalment in the Lords of the Underworld series. If you haven’t read this already, you sure are missing out!

İtiraf ediyorum Sabin'in kitabı olduğunu duyduğumda üzülmüştüm. Çünkü daha çok merak ettiğim Lordlar var. Üstelik İko'nun da ''Gwen'den nefret ediceksin .s.s'' diye söylenmesi ile çok korkmuştum. İyi ki İko ile zevklerimiz uyuşmuyor çünkü Gwen is the best bitches!!! Nasıl sevilmez ki? Böyle güçlü heroine kolay bulunmuyor.

I don't know what I expected from Sabin but he is way cooler than I expected, he is also so modern, unlike the guys at Budapest, his love story is also amazing, he fell in love with a Harpy.

Gwen the Harpy is okay but not among my favourite females in this series, she started out so insecure and all even though she could take all the guys if it comes to a fight, it was towards the ending that she changed and became badass.

Just like the previous books, the guys and their women are still in this, the war with the hunters just got hotter.

  • Laura

I think that the most oustanding aspect about this book is the Harpies. I think they stole the show and they were just my favorites.

Probably won't review this one since it was just okay for me and I really want to dive into the next books I truly want to re-read.

Another five stars all round so many more people or immortals are coming to the party in this book there getting more and more interesting as I go along :)

  • Corinne Michaels

I really loved the progression of Sabin and Gwen. I loved watching her combat her Harpy and finally seeing her parentage--didn't see that one coming. I'm enjoying every word of these books and savoring them.

  • Emanuela ~plastic duck~

I don't know what to think. It was very good in parts, but the end really left me disappointed. I'd better make a list.

    What I liked:

    * Anya. I liked her better here than in her own book. The way she made Galen lose his composure at the end was a joy to read. I think that in few pages she made Gwen totally disappear.

    * The Harpies as a species. They were tough, just and independent. I really hope we'll see more of them.

    * Gideon's inner monologues. He surprised me: such sadness! I had never really understood his character until now. He feels useless because his demon doesn't seem to have a real purpose, and the facts that he can't speak what he means is depressing. His story is one I want to hear.

    What I didn't like:

    * I couldn't feel the chemistry between Gwen and Sabin, it seemed all very superficial and even repetitive. At one point of the story Sabin's demon, Doubt, was dismissed because it was afraid of Harpies. And I don't think the "consort" concept was thoroughly explained. I adored the moment when Sabin told Gwen of his weaknesses as a warrior: that was a true special moment, but the rest wasn't as memorable. OK, now I get it: they were so much inside their heads that we didn't truly enjoy their time together.

    * What with all this torture??!!

    * What's with Gwen letting his father Galen escape and no one being royally pissed off??!! The final confrontation was awful. It was like watching a tennis match where each player was playing to lose.

Well, I liked the side stories more than the main couple and disliked the end, but the writing is still light and funny, the world building remains interesting, so I'll read the next book.

Şu seriden her ay bir kitap çıksa arka arkaya yaa!! Çok mu şey istiyorum.. Nasıl güzeldi yine..
Anarşi Tanrıçası Anya bile Gwen'in yanında pamuk şekeri gibi kaldı resmen :D
Bir kere de olsa bir kadının, sahiplenerek "O benim... Benimsin," deyişini, Sabin gibi bir adama emirler verişini okumak ve adamın şaşkınlığına şahit olmak harikaydı :D
    description
Bu arada fan gözüyle Sabin ve Gwen oluyor kendileri :D

Paris'in durumu fena..

I have mixed feelings about this book. It is the 4th installment in the Lords of the Underworld series and the author confirms this by stating it in her Intro. She has a few e-books on the LOTU, but they are numbered as .5, 3.5 here on GRs by ... yours truly. :-)

Enjoyed the first half of The Darkest Whisper. Sabin/Demon of Doubt came into the series after the other group of Lords rejoined their comrades--a book or so ago. They had a major falling out (1,000+ years ago) and went their separate ways, but agreed to rejoin forces in order to fight The Hunters. Sabin was the leader of the other group and as such he was more or less in charge during most of this book.

    Series plot summary:
The Lords are on a mission. They are trying to locate four artifacts: The Cage of Compulsion, The Paring Rod, the Cloak of Invisibility and the All-Seeing Eye. They are told--in a earlier book--by Cronus that when all four objects are together they will learn the location of Pandora's Box. The Hunters are also searching for the artifacts to get the box so they can imprison the demons that now have a symbiotic relationship with the Lords (as punishment from the gods for killing Pandora and releasing the demons on mankind). Whew! It is believed that the Lords will die if the demons are extracted from them. The Hunters want the Lords dead. So, even though the demons are horrible, i.e, pain, poison, depression, rage, etc. the Lords have learned to accept them and can, for the most part, control their demons. The Lords have acquired two of the four artifacts at the beginning of this book.

The Darkest Whisper begins with Sabin and a handful of Lords--in Egypt--following a lead that an artifact may be at said location. What they found was a hidden-Hunter-forced-breeding-program. Hunters had been capturing females with various immortal skills, vampires, witches, etc, caging, raping and impregnating them for the sole purpose of establishing their own "advanced" army. They took newborns away from their mothers and the location of missing children is going to be investigated as the series progresses.

The women were all horribly abused. The witch had her voice box cut out, the vampire had her teeth removed, etc. They were covered in bruises...all but one, Gwendolyn (Gwen). The Hunters had not been able to figure out how to get to her without being killed. For over a year, she was forced to watch the other's abuse, though, and the normally passive girl, grew to hate The Hunters.

Gwen was a creature new to the series. A Harpie. Feared by most, if they were smart. Her great-great (great?) grandfather was Lucifer. The Lords were afraid of her, too. She was naive and funny--initially. Young. Some parts of her personality got on my nerves as the book progressed. She needed to grow the heck up and stop being afraid of everything. She constantly downed herself because she wasn't like her sisters. She didn't want to hurt people and was afraid of being hurt. Swore off violence, sort of. How she got captured just showed her naivete. She was embarrassed to tell her sisters...they were very old and lethal.

If anyone has read "A Hunger Like No Other" by Kresley Cole, I thought the heroine in that book was a lot like Gwen; unless her Harpie was released, then all hell would break loose.

The author spent a lot of time during the last half of the book building up secondary characters. First, I was enjoying the build up for Paris/promiscuity. His story has been gaining momentum the past few books. But, then came the building up of Torin/toxic poison, Gideon/Lies and a few others. It was too distracting from the plot of the story. Too many build-ups at one time. :-(

The later half also spent a great deal of time trying to train Gwen to fight. Could have condensed that down...a lot. It dragged for me. The story became stagnate. Could have used some editing to remove the repetitiveness of describing the others problems and past so often. I knew what Aeron's pet was. It was mentioned and described again here, then when Gwen saw it for the first time it was mentioned and described again.

There was a big-time betrayal between the H/H with a subsequent let down in the final battle. I felt the Lords had extraordinary abilities and because of their own stupidity almost got their butts handed to them on a platter. For me, it degraded the story.

The torturing was gruesome. I felt sorry for The Hunters. Gross! Then the torturing of one of the Lords. Gross!

Anya (Goddess of Chaos) was in this one, but her character was okay for me this time. She held the most intel on Harpies and knew Gwen's sisters. Some funny moments, but not many.

Finally, I was so looking forward to the character Nix from Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series entering this and she only had a brief mention....it was linking her with one of the Lords. Never guess which one!:-)

Whenever you have an ongoing series, you always run the risk that it will grow stale. Or even worse, jump the shark. I'm happy to say that this fourth installment in the Lords of the Underworld series, does neither. In fact, I didn't just like Sabin's story, I loved it.

Sabin, like all the Lords, shares his body with a demon. His demon is Doubt. And compared to some of the other guys, he got off easy. But Doubt has done its fair share of making Sabin's life difficult. The biggest problem is that Doubt manages to destroy every woman Sabin gets close to. Of course, our heroine is no ordinary woman.

Gwen is a Harpy. She and some other supernatural women were kidnapped by Hunters to become part of a breeding program. The Lords stumble across them one day while fighting Hunters and rescue the women. Gwen and Sabin have an instant connection.

One of the things I love about this series, besides the uber-hot-sex, is that no two heroes or heroines are alike. Gwen manages to be both vulnerable and strong. I loved watching her grow into her Harpy-abilities as she falls harder and harder for Sabin. Perhaps even more captivating is watching him try to fight his feelings, and failing miserably.

The love story here is both sweet and sexy. And it develops as the ongoing story arc of the Lords' battle with Galen and the Hunters continue. I hope we end up with a book for each Lord. Poor Paris needs a happy ending. 5 stars.

Well well well, I didn't think I'd be able to by pass Maddox, Reyes was great but Maddox held my heart... then along comes Sabin, Demon of Doubt... I truly love this character and just as much, I love Gwen, what a combination and what a story!!!

I didn't think I'd enjoy these books as much as I am and I am already dying to get my hands onto the next book, to learn about the next demon, to learn about the next Lord...

A brilliant set of books so far by an extremely talented writer!!! Gena Showalter, you are fabulous!!!

  • ReadToBreathe

4.5 Stars for Gwen and the other warriors, but definitely not for Sabin.

Holly hell this book was like a slap on the face. The last hundred pages were so pact with action and revealing secrets that made my heart pound in my head.

I have come to realize that I mostly read these books because of the heroines not the heroes because I'm sure that I hated and still hate Sabin from the beginning till the last page. I don't care if he was redeemed or that he finally admitted that he loved Gwen. I hated his selfishness, cruelty and harshness, and how he forced himself on Gwen when she was fragile. Everything about him pissed me off, Lord or not, this guy was an a$$, he was even worse than Paris which say a lot. But on the other hand, I loved everything about Gwen, how she stood for her self at the end and managed to overcome her fear and weaknesses astonished me, and I'm so happy for her for finally finding her happiness.

Now I'm very curious to see what will happen to Paris and if he truly saw what he said he saw. Cronus is driving me crazy with his tricky games.

  • Luana ☆

I enjoyed this book as well. How crazy is the life of the demon of Doubt? Each demon I see I am surprised by how different they are and by how many obstacles the warriors need to avoid/suffer every day because of it.

In this book both hero and heroine had their dark selves and it was nice seeing them getting used to each other. Helping each other. Discovering each other.

The plot was nice and the Hunters are a much bigger problem then first thought in the first book. The plot is getting more and more complex.
