After Liberalism Reviews

The book is a collection of essays previously published elsewhere. There is a lot of overlap and repetition because of that. Contentwise, it is a continuum of Wallerstein's previous work and challenges the conventional perceptions regarding liberalism, in theory and in practice, questioning its material objectives and idological framework. A must-read for a thorough understanding of the inner contradictions of liberalism.

When the United Nations General Assembly meeting continues in New York, reading Wallerstein's "After Liberalism" can be useful! Wallerstein's all books are valuable, useful for understanding the world, for questioning the world, for finding answers to "global" questions. "After Liberalism", Wallerstein's book in 1995, was not "old", now Wallerstein's observations about the world can bring similar questions, similar opinions and similar feelings. Wallerstein writes we live in "After Liberalism", we live in the conditions of world "After Liberalism". On the one hand, the Soviet Socialism "collapses", on the other hand, the Western Liberalism, so, we live in a new world, in "a transitional age", we have to think, we have to improve the new politics for contributing to form "a new world", in 2021, we can ask Wallerstein's questions!

Everything makes more sense when put into perspective. Very interesting point of view. What makes it interesting is that I seem to notice some changes, fluctuations, as you wish, in a modern society, in politics, quality of living, implicit promises and beliefs of people. Sometimes these changes are small, sometimes they are radical shifts. And this book attempt to make a clear, historical explanation. What compelling about the explanation is that it makes sense. It shows some facets you didn't think about before, because you forgot them. Or even didn't know them, because you've been always living in a certain context, set by long history of humankind. Reading about how this context was set up is eye opening.
