definitely better than the previous book (which could be removed from the series and probably not change much of the storyline). im glad that aria and knox are finally headed somewhere, rather than the mindless back and forth nonsense which plagued ‘ashes of chaos.’

i enjoyed that some questions are being answered and the story is taking some sort of visible direction, but the slow pacing and repetitious writing/narration is too tedious for me to give this more than 3 stars, unfortunately. i have no idea how much longer this story is going to be dragged out, but surprisingly i feel invested enough to see it through to the end.

”I am the calm to your chaos. Who are you?” “I am the storm to your shelter that keeps me warm."

I flew through this book in one day so I’ll try to keep spoilers out of it for a bit.

How would I describe this book? EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER seems like a fitting description. The ups and downs, yes and no’s, I hate you and I love you (without saying I love you) between Aria and Knox made me cry, scream, smile, swoon and fan myself!

We saw so many different sides of Knox in this book and how could you not fall in love with him? He’s scarred, broken, and everything we discovered in this book shows that his anger and rage are justified..

There were a few plot twists that had me shook and a few people I don’t necessarily trust. While some I trust more than I did before. Amelia, this series is something different in the best possible way and I just don’t think I can wait until 2021 for Crowns of Chaos..

Ruins of Chaos is the third book in the Legacy of the Nine Realms. Each book must be read in order as every character plays a pivotal role in the plot and overall landscape of the story. This series has been a slow burn for me, but now I am officially hooked! Aria and Knox have come full circle, and although she is trying to stand beside him, he refuses to accept the truth. She knows that there is more death and destruction on the horizon, and the only way they will survive is if she can prove to him the truth of who she is and what they are meant to be together. After so much loss, can Knox truly accept the truth of who Aria is to him?

“I don’t know what it is about you, but my beast demands we claim you. That alone should terrify you because you’re wrong. My beast wants yours, and he thinks you’re the perfect being he’s ever come across in his entire life."
Told in dual POV, Ruins of Chaos is another page-turner that I could not stop reading until it was finished. Now I am DYING for the next book. Hutchins has created a world full of magic, passion, non-stop action, and romance. Aria is one of the strongest heroines I have ever read, and even though I want to smack Knox half of the time, I have faith that he will discover the truth and finally claim Aria in the way that she is meant to be claimed by him.
"This place would crush her dreams, stomp her fucking heart into the ground, and ruin the beauty that shined from within her soul before she’d ever make a dent in this hellhole.”
Overall, Ruins of Chaos is an absolute must-read for paranormal romance fans. I am completely captivated by this world, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. Aria and Knox might just be the best Amelia Hutchins power couple yet!

Knox is a fucking pig and even if he redeems himself he’ll always be the asshole I read about that one time. This can not be a main character that readers should be able to forgive and love later on. This is absolute bullshit.

5 stares is just not enough, I need more. So many questions, so many theories. You can never get enough of Amelia Hutchins writing. We're are you taking us Amelia? I know you got something up your sleeve. I looovvveee to hate Knox, yes he hurts her over and over, I know he hates the world, but this man is damaged in so many ways, he has been hurt and lied to his whole life. Knox is the true definition of beautifully broken.. Knox has waged a war from hurt and revenge just for to have end up lies and betrayal... Aria!!! Girl you are a power house, rattle👏 them👏 fucking👏realms👏 girl. You bring them all to there knees. I am starting my own personal harem starting with Brandor and Lore while waiting for the next book to drop, and my gods, knowing and reading all Amelia books, I know the wait will be worth it and the ride has just began..

    Wash, rinse, repeat...

I absolutely love anything hutchins writes but the last 2 books in this series just didn't do it for me. The same scene and conversation is repeated for almost 400 pages. Very little actually happens. I totally get setting and letting the reader experience the relationship ups and downs but come on with the beating of a dead horse!! I cannot explain how frustrating it it to basically read one scene that takes four hundred pages to finish only then to have the action happen and the book end. I will read the next in the series because I do love these characters. I just hope that with the next one comes a little more than Knox ducking his head in the sand or saying/doing the same thing over and over. Here's hoping Aria grows a backbone when it comes to letting people walk all over her.

  • Teduncho

I hated this book and Knox most of all. He just couldn't get his head out of his ass. He was so blinded and prejudiced towards Aria that it infurieted me. He blamed her for everything and most of all for things that happened when she hadn't even been born. That's just plain stupid. The whole book was a constant back and forward. We didn't get anywhere. I miss the badass Aria that decimated everything in her path. This book was entirely unnecessary in my opinion.

OMFG this was amazeballs! Can’t wait for the next book!

    dear God....
    this book was exhausting...

    *sigh*

ok, I'm all for demanding assholes alphas and all that jazz BUT to read this whiplashing jo-jo effect in this so called relationship that is going on between Knox/Lennox (The King/The Beast) and Aria Hecate/Ember (The Witch/The Creature) is just too fucking much...for me to go through on over 600 pages of chaos...

Jesus, how many times you are fucked senseless, then smth bad happenss, he fucking blames you (cause you ARE his enemy and always WILL be) then he punishes you for existing in the first place, then you are pissed, mad at him, and then you forgive him...and this shit goes on repeat FOR-FUCKING-EVER...and it will probably NEVER stop either, until one of you puts the balls where they belong!!!! and remember there are FOUR of them that we are following LOL in just two bodies...

So, honestly, there are too many pages to endure this shit...over and over and over again and NOT to have a conclusion BUT instead you are definitely NOT looking forward to the next book, cause you have had enough of this stupid never ending push and pull with the sexual intermezzoes....

well, not even the sex can solve this shit, so it should END in one of three ways:
    1) either one of them dies, I don't care at this point which one...
    2) they go each in separate ways and move on
    3) they finally get their heads/hearts/bodies whatever in order and just be...

so, which one would you pick and wait for, after enduring probably another 600 pages or so?

I have such a massive book hangover. Amelia Hutchins is a genius with her words. You have no choice but to be submerged in the brilliant worlds she creates. I have read almost everything she has written and her writing just becomes more astounding the more she writes.
I feel like I have been torn in two after finishing Ruins. Aria and Knox are on a completely different level than previous characters has written and they are remarkable. The push and pull has me exhausted. The book is full of angst and suspense, so much of it I thought I would have a panic attack. There's a few books that I have had the pleasure to completely immerse myself in and this is one of those gems. I felt like I was bipolar loving the characters, hating them, feeling jealousy for Aria and then complete fury towards Knox.
You may think I'm absolutely crazy for loving this book and recommending it for you to read, and I'm ok with that, because when you start reading this book you will love it. Now if you are new and have not read the series from the beginning then thats where you should start.
    Enjoy!

    Review updated 2022

Wow. This book... this book has me reeling with emotions! To say that a lot happened in this book is an understatement. I don’t even know where to begin!

The book begins where book 2 left off- Aria has just been kidnapped and Knox’s men were defending her. While Aria’s kidnapped, her beast- who has a name now: Ember- unleashed a deep, saddening, guttural sound that’s felt by others like her, more specifically, Knox and his men. Because she’s been weakened since she was running so much in book 2 and Knox placed bands on her that prevents her from using magic, she isn’t able to defend herself against almost being raped. Luckily, she gets saved in the nick of time. She’s rescued and Knox, of course, thinks the worst of her and assumes she somehow planned to get herself kidnapped as a way to lure him out and get other people slaughtered. His men tell him that she was fighting tooth and nail to protect herself and his men, but he still doesn’t quite believe it.

As time progresses, Ember starts making appearances as well as Knox’s beast- Lennox. They’re compatible and true mates, which Knox has a hard time understanding since he already had his one true mate- his wife Liliana and his only heir was Sven. He doesn’t understand the implications of Aria being his true mate.

So many things happen. I mean, this book is replete with information, revelations, betrayals, and unfortunately, deaths. We start to get more answers as to what Aria is and who her father is, but no certainties. Knox’s constantly battling with himself and his baser instinct to claim Aria and be owned by her. The emotions they feel for each other is visceral, raw, bare-bones (which was mentioned MANY times in the book), written-in-their-souls ingrained. It’s bigger than the outer shell of Aria and Knox- because even their beasts feel it. They purr, rattle and growl for each other, whether it’s in comfort, possessiveness, or sexual need. Knox’s men see it, everyone close to him see it, but not him. Knox’s living with guilt and regret for his wife and child. It’s a constant battle with him being sweet to Aria and then changing his tune to that of a monster- it’s like emotional whiplash. Aria takes it because she has no choice- plus he threatens her and her family, which is Aria’s weakness.

Can we talk about Brander, Lore and Greer (shoot even Killian) for a second? I hooooope we get books for them lol. They’re simply amazing! Lore cracks me up 😂😂😂. Oh and the spark between Brander and Soraya was niiiice as well. I can see something unfolding there. Greer went from being an a$$ in book 1 to someone I trust as a friend to Aria. He’s been around since before Knox was born.

When Aria’s power’s shown (when her beast rattles in this case) and the men succumb to it, I was living for it. I loved when she became a bad b!?$& that no one could control, sometimes not even Knox. Seeing them go head-to-head, or beast-to-beast, was mesmerizing. There were many instances where I wanted Aria’s bada$$ness to show more, but I’m sure we’ll get a lot of it in the next book. The scene where her power was unleashed in less than five minutes was cinematic. It was epic.

Uffff... the way the book ended. Dear Lord, I can’t wait to see what happens in book 4. I know a lot of what was revealed was pain-filled, but I’m sure it was all necessary to continue the storyline.

Oh and I DETEST Lillian and Killian’s sister- Celia 🤬. I hope we see her downfall. Lol 🔪💀.

    It’s ... ok *spoilers*

    1. Egregious overuse of “bare-bones” UGH! Please do/be better.
    2. This 3rd novel is rather defensive; starting with the disclaimer (warning bells) and throughout the story. Once an author needs to engage the reader to defend herself, it doesn’t go very well (e.g., CM Stunich and “ebon”) - you write and we’ll read; don’t engage via novel!
    3. I hesitate to write this since I’ve adored AH novels for so long, but ... it’s a bit boring. Knox is bad and does bad things blah blah ... Aria is good and forgives easily blah blah. There is no plot progression. Aria is devolving. Sigh.
3a. Cue sexy times - I appreciate these! (Plus it offsets the boring plot line); more sexy times, less boring plot, please?

    *spoilers*
    4. Naming their creatures?! A bit weird, jarring, and unnecessary (IMO)
    5. Aria and Knox mate (to get info from the library, which isn’t very logical, but whatevs) YAAAY!
    6. Still ... quite boring, but I do believe it’s because it’s just too long without any attempt to keep our interest in a HEA
    7. Soraya and Brander get chapters ... Um, what? Again, illogical and could be removed entirely
    8. THREE books later and I still don’t see any resemblance to redemption, so I’d call foul upon the defensive disclaimer.
    9. The plot is rather slow-slow-slow-burn (how much world building is there going to be?)
    10. Dragon and Phoenix are fabulous!!!

3.5-Stars bec her other series are amazeballs

Sigh, this could have been the final book, it even could have been a great installment - however, it was neither of those things. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED. For 98% of the book we had the same monologuing (for pages upon pages) and back and forth between Knox and Aria, the same foolishness, and the same fights, which I THOUGHT we discussed/fought about thoroughly enough in in the previous book on many, many pages. YET, we did it again, and again, and again for what felt like the entire installment of book 3. Knox's attitude towards Aria was repetitive, and frustrating. Aria's attitude towards Knox was annoying, and repetitive, so much so that my review has now become repetitive!

There were some positives and sweet moments, the bonding and such. But this book, taken as a whole, was nonsense.

SN: The characters "snorted" one hundred and twenty seven times in this one book. They "snorted" when they were happy, sad, mad, everyone just kept snorting!!!!!!

I am fully invested at this point and will likely read the next book (hoping to the gods that it is the finale).

  • Sucker4Smut

Fuck me....Amelia has done it again....

Can’t get enough of this series! This book was definitely all about Knox and his roller coaster ride of emotions. He’s obsessed with Aria but yet can’t get past the loss of his wife and son and his complete lack of trust towards her. He’s basically a massive asshole and Aria is a saint. With that being said, I’m still rooting for him. Why? I don’t know.

There’s some hilarious moments between Aria and her beast, Ember, which I loved. You meet Lennox, Knox’s beast too.

The sexual tension is unreal and when it finally happens, It’s good (not surprising at all if you’ve read any of Amelia’s books...).

I love this world, I love the characters, I love the narration and plot.

I cannot wait for the next book. I hope it’s filled with Knox being insanely jealous over Aden pursuing Aria and he finally learns his lesson.

  • Cheryl

    And she's off

Knox is still a complete jerk but you can tell he has feelings for Aria I think. Lol.

I can't believe he treats her and allows everyone else to treat her bad.

I feel like we didn't need the first half of the book as it's the same ole same ole.

Please let the next be the last of the back and forth with Aria and Know. If it goes past I might just give up it's ridiculous!

  • Christine (myfictionaldays)

I'm not a violent person but these books make me want to murder people... *cough* Knox *cough*

I seriously don't know what's up with Amelia Hutchins and her portrayals of the male love interests in her books. After Ryder from The Fae Chronicles, I really thought there's nobody else who can take the number one spot for the most insufferable asshole but oh boy was I in for a major surprise.

He looked, he judged, and he found'd me guilty without trial.

“I let you get too close to me, and you decided to destroy me. I thought you saw the fire in my eyes and wanted to play with the flames. In reality, you just wanted to watch me burn. I was wrong to think you could see me; silly me. I thought maybe you actually liked me, when in reality, I have been a pawn all along, on both sides. Leave me alone, Knox.”

I entered the library, not wanting him to see the light he’d extinguished tonight. I may have been alive, but he’d broken something within me by bringing me to his home, where his wife’s ghost haunted the hallways.

3 books of 600+ pages and Aria is still his personal punch bag which he uses every time something goes wrong. Knox keeps blaming her for literally everything, no matter that in the process she almost got killed 10 times, almost got raped 10 times, has been beaten to oblivion 10000 times, has been humiliated by him, his people, HIS DAMN BROTHERS (BRANDER I AM LOOKING AT YOU ASSHOLE) and was emotionally destroyed to the point that she started believing his words that she is worth absolutely nothing and it would be better if she has never been born. I hate him. Personal trauma DOES NOT justify his actions even the slightest and the ending just proved that once again. I can't believe he let this dumb bitch Cecile treat Aria like this. And of course when they take one step further in their relationship something happens and they go back 20 steps.

So yeah in conclusion, Knox is the biggest piece of shit to ever be written as a male love interest and this is why I will never give one of these books more than 3 stars no matter how good the world building is. I've read so many reviews and I can't believe the amount of people that think this is cute and normal. Get therapy, please

    EPIC ADVENTURE

Ruins of Chaos is here this is the third book in the Legacy of the Nine Realms Series. AND I AM SO EXCITED!

Amelia Hutchins is an amazing author the worlds she creates suck you in and the characters she writes are seriously not like anything I have ever read before! Absolutely mind blowing books!

Aria and Knox these two stole my heart in book one. They are intense, raw and a lot of psycho but that’s what I love the most about them! Their journey has been quite the roller coaster of off the wall sexual tension and straight up bloodshed.

Aria is a FMC that has shown huge growth to get to this point and she has shown that she can rattle all of the nine realms.

Knox well he is a total a**hole and I just love reading about those kind of men! He is literally one of my favorite hero’s ever! And I don’t see that changing.

This whole book had so much happen betrayal, heartbreak, secrets are revealed and MAJOR BOMBS ARE DROPPED!! And this ending tore my heart out made me ball my eyes out! This series is one of the best I have ever read and I cannot get enough

    Good god!

    All the lovely chaos

If you want to get punched in the feels and read about a character get broken-down and build herself back up again then this is your book. There are many triggers to trauma so consider if you are going to read. Chances are you're already familiar with the authors darker paranormal/fantasy writing. It will keep you on your toes and alot happens in this book. I enjoyed the growth of Aria's character and the melding that is happening with her creature. I'm not loving the antihero right now, but I guess that's the point. I'm dying to know what happens next and hope for some answers in the next. This book teased at some answers of who Aria might be and what happened in the past. Knox is still a rollercoaster that will make you want to reach in and shake him. This book made me cry, ponder, rage, and lust the many turbulent scenes. And as always makes you want more.

  • chels

    (this review contains some spoilers)

Down below my review is just my problems and rants with the main love interest. Outside of him, I really do enjoy the fantasy world that’s been built for us. It’s got magic, darkness, creatures I’ve yet to learn about and explore (which is what snared me in book one) and so much more. But, there has been no progress in the storyline. As the reader, we have just been dragged through 3 books of this main character being thrown around by her “love interest” and a few battle/fight scenes. I need more. There is an overall plot for this series but each book doesn’t have its own. I feel like I’m a mouse chasing after cheese being lead around by the author’s string, the cheese being the climax to the storyline. What is the point of all of this?

That being said, I’m not a fan of this writing style. It’s not my style preference and I really don’t like how repetitive some of these character’s monologues are. Everyone’s constantly going into these “deep” monologues that can 1) be condensed to a couple of sentences; 2) utter bullsh*t that tries to condone Knox’s horribly toxic actions, and 3) it ruins the flow of conversation and so unrealistic to how people really communicate. They lose their meaning and profoundness when there are multiple monologues in every 100 pages.

And then sometimes scenes begin with no build-up whatsoever to the point where we have no understanding of why something is happening or why it’s even needed for the plot. So many battles or Aria running around trying to fulfill her “plan” when we are clueless to the point of all of this. At least explain the end goal to this. I understand keeping some mystery for the readers but I’m just truly confused all the time. You can have us know her plans and still surprise us with things going awry or keeping parts of some plans hidden (like a Plan B or a surprise attack that even the main character wasn't sure was going to happen). We have Aria’s end goal but nothing else here. I feel like random action events are just written out just so this isn't a Fantasy Smut book and we don’t get any closure to whatever's going on.

I spent the entire book asking, “wtf is going on?” In the end we get some half-answers that still leave me feeling empty and unfulfilled.

But putting my personal grievances aside, the little funny moments really kept me going tbh. Lore & Ember’s comedic relief CARRIES this series on their backs - somebody get them to a chiropractor STAT. Homegirl Ember saying “eAt sOMe piNEaPpLe” and disappearing when Aria’s boutta face a Hulk cawk had me ROLLING.

But, even with those funny moments though, I couldn’t truly enjoy this series. I’m essentially finishing this series out just to get some closure on what happens so I can finally put this behind me. I hope in the coming books there will be some actual growth or Knox just straight-up dying. Aria’s a bit of dumb*ss sometimes but she deserves better.

Now, below is gonna be my rant on mister Knox - our psychotic love interest.

I don’t even know where to begin with this sh*t yall.

Let’s try and start with: this series CANNOT be considered a Romance whatsoever. There is not a lick of it in any of the three published books. Besides the overall mystery of what Aria is, I have been sticking with this series for the love interest’s redemption and it's nowhere to be found. He has been nothing but an unapologetically abusive, gaslighting, manipulative, possessive, and dominating a**hole throughout all 3 books and NOT in the good way most bad-boy/dark romances are. Believe me, I love those as much as the next reader. I love it so much I can barely sit through normal friends-to-lovers or mushy-gushy books. But, none of what’s going on is even remotely under the realm of Love or Romance.

In the first book we got glimpses of what I assumed was him kinda falling for Aria and growing and then book 2&3 SQUASHED that train of thought like a grape. From the way things were going in book 1 we should've gotten a good love confession & climax (heh) to their relationship in book 2 but nope. It's like the author decided he was getting better too fast and just made him 10x worse + continuing to worsen.

Also, because of him, I can’t even really enjoy Aria, the MC, because whenever this jacka** does this unforgivable BS to her (which is literally every chapter) she goes running back to him like it's nothing and PURRS for him. I get that her “creature” has a craving for Knox but for the love of christ girlie, mop up that puss and have some self-respect. At this point, it’s just major Stockholm Syndrome.

THENNNNNN This man, who is over a thousand years old, blames a 25yo girl (WHO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MURDER OF HIS WIFE AND CHILD as it had happened 500 YEARS BEFORE SHE WAS BORN) for every little inconvenience that happens to him so he doesnt have to face the fact that he’s got the hots for his family’s murderer’s granddaughter :/ She has done NOTHING to him except occasionally lash out at him when HE cuts HER too deep. If this was just one book I think I would try to move past some of this, but we’re in the third book (which is over 600 pages mind you) and I am tired of this toxic repetition that shows no sign of fixing/healing.

Also, what is this nonsense of millennia-old people of Norvalla blaming literal children for sh*t that happened CENTURIES before these children, or even their parents and grandparents, were born? Do none of these people have brains? “Omg there are some evil witches in this bloodline, let’s just perform some GENOCIDE and kill ALL WITCHES!” like bro ikyfl. Literal children are being slaughtered because of one horrible leader and some corrupted followers of darkness????? I can get behind getting rid of dark witches that are rotten to the core but ones that still have light? Really, bro?

I know Knox has taken some Light witches into his army but I can’t even give him that as a Pro in his Pros and Cons list because they are all his SLAVES. They are not free people - hell, it’s even mentioned that they are considered less than people and have less rights than everyone else FOR CRIMES THEY DIDNT EVEN COMMIT. These witches are seeking refuge and Knox either enslaves them or kills them.

All of these irredeemable qualities keep adding up and I am EXHAUSTED. I love redemption arcs and mental growth of morally grey characters (it’s my crack) but this is so beyond f*cked up and he has made NO progress in his healing. This man is an abusive genocidal slave owner and manipulates this young and quite innocent main character into pitying him by saying he has “jagged edges” ??? Bro, having been hurt by others is not an excuse to hurt more people. Grow up and see a therapist. And maybe someone get him a f*cking nail file or sandpaper so he can file down those "jagged edges" for the love of Christ.

Okay, I’m done ranting. I’m tired of this bullhonky.

UPDATE (spoilers) || TW: SEXUAL ASSAULT

Just remembered Knox whole a** tried to tell Aria that she was throwing her sexual assault experiences around to manipulate him… and then we just moved on from that like it was nothing........

And now that we pretty much know that Liliana was planted to trick Knox how do we know that the rest of her family aren’t snakes as well? You can’t tell me Killian and Cuntelia were clueless about their sister’s magical change? I can tell when my sister needs to fart just by looking at her eyes like there’s no way they didn’t see even a SLIGHT change in their sister. I'll bet $5 (that I don't even have) that Knox will somehow find a way to blame Aria for Killian's betrayal :/

  • Yale Janguiê

so, so good. Typical amelia. Sometimes you want to throw the book at the wall, sometimes you're jumping like a kid, you hate Knox, you love Knox, you hate Knox, you love Knox, and so on, you know how it goes.

  • Julia

Best of the three so far, looking forward to Crown of Chaos later this year 😈

Y’all this series is absolutely amazing! If Amelia Hutchins writes anything, I will buy it! This series is a roller coaster with emotions, especially laughter. Hopefully this series will never end!
