It's one of the reasons she developed her dating service "E-romantic",a scientific algorithm based process that matches one person to their most compatible partners.
When clients start dropping like flies, claiming that a bartender at The Arrow led them to the "love of their lives", she decides to take matters into her own hands or risk being client-less.
Little does she know she's up against the god of love and passion himself. If she can open herself to the possibilities and listen to destiny's call she may learn to trust in love again and "soar" to new heights.
Eros (Contemporary Mythos #4) Reviews
-
I didn’t think it would be possible for this series to get any better, but Eros just took first place in my heart!
Elani was a heroine that had a damaged heart and couldn’t trust love. I was interested in how someone who didn’t believe in true love could be a successful matchmaker. And then I realized, duh. Everything she does is based on a program, not emotions. That’s when I knew that Elani was probably going to get put through a wringer by Eros along the journey to their happy ever after.
I was expecting the god of Love to act a certain way. I was so wrong. Instead of being the cookie cutter type of god, he was so unique. He had enough alpha in him to maintain his place in Elani’s sight, but never exerted it to the place of taking control as he watched her struggle through date after date. However, he was always the first to step in as soon as things went south or she needed moral support.
I loved the way this author set up this couple and while I knew what would eventually happen, I could not predict how it was going to play out. There were a few things that were a bit of a surprise but there were more laugh out loud moments stemming from either of these characters or one of the many secondary characters that were deliciously popping in and out. This was a relatively fast read with a slow burn and what I consider to be low angst.
This was a great book and I can’t wait for more in this world!

I don't know where to start. I guess with the simplest of declarations. I REALLY liked this. I love the skepticism, the banter, and the experiences that Elani and Eric / Eros share. The myths of Greek lore mixed with the here and now and the commingling of traditions from the Scottish culture were absolutely lovely and fun. Especially when a Greek God flies you to a deserted castle to have his wicked, supremely steamy way with you. Where can I sign up for THAT? 😘💙🔥
I do prefer to listen to this type of book but the reading experience was still worth it. Along those lines, I've been enjoying this series out of order and I think it's fine. There are small references to the prior books but, unless you know, you aren't likely to think much of it.
If you're looking at my shelves and noticed that I marked the POV as being both singular and dual, it's because there is only one chapter from Eros' POV. The rest of the book is all Lani.
Oh, and that age gap? He's a god who's been around for hundreds, thousands of years. She's a mere mortal. 💋
UPDATED 3/2022:
OK. So, given the choice between read or listen, you ABSOLUTELY NEED to listen to this book. Hearing the banter and the accents is just *muah*. 🥰
Stella Bloom and Thomas Locklear bring this story to life and it was an absolute pleasure to listen to. I've enjoyed Thomas before but this was my first time listening to Stella. More of Thomas would've been preferred. I look forward to hearing both again.

Up until this point, Apollo has been my favorite book from Spade...but Eros came through town and was like "MOVE BITCH, GET OUT THE WAY." all Ludacris style and well...the rest is history! Sorry Apollo, I still love you and wish you and Laurel the best, but Eros and Elani have my heart.
Plot: Fast paced
Characters: Well developed and likable
Steam: Mild
Tropes: Reluctant lovers (one sided)
Summary
Elani Steward run a match making company. Ironically enough, she does not believe in love, but she does believe in science and compatibility. Her program offers their services to clients in hopes to find the compatible suitor. However, when two of her clients cancel her services in the same day, claiming they have found love at a bar, Elani goes to investigate. The Arrows bar is run by a bartender named Erik, whom she notices matching people. In order to get him to stop, they make a bet. If Elani can find her perfect match in 3 months using her own code, Erik will stop. But if she doesn't, Erik gets to rework the code. To this she agrees.
However, Elani soon realizes her code isn't exactly perfect. The men she matches with all have something wrong, until the Scottish hottie arrives. However, even he doesn't give her butterflies like a certain bartender does. Now Elani needs to come to terms with her own prejudices against love or risk losing it all together.
My Thoughts
I LOVED Elani. Out of all Spade's other female characters, she is the one I connected with the most. I love her backstory and her need for reasoning. Eros complimented her so much, he brought out a different side of her, one that was a little more adventurous and carefree.
The kissing scenes in this book are great, but I have to say the bear rug scene took the cake. I'm a sucker for a man with wings, what can I say? The chemistry between these two is pure fire. Did I want an elongated and more detailed sex scene? Duh, but it's because I'm a smutty reader! However, for this type of book and genre, the scene wad absolutely perfect and the right amount of teasing.
Also, who else is excited for Poseidon being the next book?!?!? -
Eros was such a FUN installment, I had so much fun with this one and was also a fast easy read which I also loved. I really find this one so interesting and I wanted to see these two find their HEA. In this one we have CUPID finding his love and it was a blast. The heroine runs a relationship business based on very mathematical procedures and then a bar keep starts taking her customers and helping them find love haha and some fun entanglements ensue. I really enjoyed their sexual tension and the way that the story is built and them traveling to the UK for some fun times here. I have adored Eros and loved seeing him find such a beautiful lady and their story was so touching in many ways. Bring on Poseidon's book haha

This was such a cute spin on greek mythology ❤️ This was a super cute, flirty love story. I loved the banter between Elani and Eros and how the story flowed forward. I loved the retelling aspect and I feel it was done really well.
Elani has given up on her fairytale ending, her happily ever after. She has dedicated her time to her dating website where algorithms determine partners for others. Her website is up and popular until clients start dropping out, saying a bartender across the stress is able to find the perfect match for them, can help them find their one true love. When she goes to the bar to investigate what is going on, little does she know that she’ll come face to face with Eros( our said bartender Eric), the god of love and passion himself.
Since their relationship starts with a bit of animosity, I loved the banter between them. It was so cute and snarky at the same time. I loved how patient Eros was, giving Elani the time and space to come to terms with her feeling and emotions and determine what she wanted after all. I’m not very well acquainted with greek mythology and kind of grossly know the stories, and yet I enjoyed this retelling and had no problem in connecting the dots between the characters . The romance was very cute and heartwarming. I loved this one. -
I can hand on heart say that if you're a fan of Carly Spade's Contemporary Mythos Series, and you've been highly anticipating for this fourth instalment ever since meeting Eros all the way back in Apollo, then you will not be disappointed with all that is delivered here for the God of Love and Passion.
Oh my God, I don't even know where to start with this review, but I'll start by saying that I absolutely melted whilst reading this story. Seriously. It was so cute, and so funny, and so romantic, and it was just too goddamn adorable for me to handle. The smile that appeared on my face from the moment Eros and Elani first met just kept growing and growing the more it is their relationship developed. My heart warmed more and more seeing Eros and Elani's relationship transition from an unexpected friendship into that something more. And I just about died from cuteness overload at that something more between them, and how it is Carly played their relationship out together.
And don't get me started on my reaction every time Eros tried - and please note the emphases on that tried - to wink at Elani. It was so bloody cute, I lost it every time it happened.
But let me stop myself right here with my gushing over how adorable these characters all in all were - because if I don't stop now, I never will - and let me get to the part of this review where I just gush about everything else. That being the plot, the writing, the pacing... E V E R Y T H I N G!!
"Oh, Lani dear, you look -"
"Breathtaking," Eric finished for Flora.
When it comes to the plot, Carly Spade truly could not have played this story out any better than she did, and I find her to be an absolute genius for pairing the God of Love up with someone who no longer believes in it after her parents' divorce. Instead, Elani believes that the secret to a long-lasting relationship is compatibility over anything else, which is why she created her own unique algorithm for her matchmaking services, E-Romantic. So far, everything has been a success... Until two clients drop out within 24 hours of each other, both claiming to have found love at a bar called The Arrow.
And how they managed to find this love? Well, the bartender in charge found it for them.
And this is where the magic begins. This is when the story grips its - more especially, this - reader in. Because this is when Elani and Eros - who, for a good chunk of this novel, goes by the name of Eric - meet, and sparks are flying. But not all those sparks are sparks of pleasure. Elani is furious and wants Eric to stop his matchmaking as it's messing with her business; Eric refuses as he is the God of Love, and it's his actual destiny to matchmake. But more than anything, he refuses because he just can't believe that someone would believe that compatibility is the key to a happy ever after over love. So, they create a bet. Eric agrees he'll stop his matchmaking if Elani can prove that her algorithm works by using it on herself. She has three months to find her match, and if she wins, Eric will stop his matchmaking. However, if she loses... Eric gets to change her algorithm.
And everything that comes next after this bet is made... Is just peak romantic comedy. And you will love every single second of reading it.
My entire life, this crippling fear of loving someone and being loved back only to lose them, had controlled me long enough. It was time to get my happily ever after.
I literally could not get enough of Eros. It was so beautifully and visibly well-written that I felt like I was actually there, in the story. And since this novel is set in both Canada and Scotland... Feeling like I was there just made the experience of reading this romance all the more magical.
Honestly, if I didn't love Carly Spade as a writer before reading Eros, I would've definitely fell in love with her as a writer after reading this novel. She delivered the perfect romance for this God of Love, and she flawlessly brought the charm, the love, and the comedy that you'd expect from a well done rom-com. The writing was so compelling that nothing could've made me put this novel down from the moment I picked it up, and the pacing was just so perfect that all I had to do was sit back, relax, and enjoy all that Carly would bring my way. And what she brought was just absolute perfection.
And can I just say: that last chapter? Both the epilogue and the chapter before that? I. Fucking. M E L T E D reading it. I melted with how adorable it was. I melted at how peak rom-com it was. I melted at the amount of love I felt from and for it. And I melted that it was the one chapter told in Eros's POV; it made the impact of what happened there all the more beautiful, and I absolutely loved it.
"You're my impossible possibility, Eros. And I don't want to let go of you for anything."
I just loved this novel, period. And if you're only ever going to read one story out of this magnificent series (though please read them all because this series is absolutely AMAZING), then I'd tell you to read Eros. It is Carly's best work to date, and what else can I say about it that I haven't already?! It was such a cute romance that is completely unforgettable, and the characters had such amazing, magnetic chemistry together that they made this novel a blast to devour.
I just cannot recommend Eros highly enough. And now? I am so, so, SO EXCITED for the next book of this series, Poseidon. Oh my God, his role in this story was absolutely perfect, and after reading that preview to his novel that's at the very end of this one?! My excitement for it truly cannot be contained, and I cannot bloody wait to see how it is Carly plays his story out next.

I had been in a MAJOR reading rut, unable to read anything. Until I opened Eros by @carlyspade. Her writing is always so fantastic is just pulls you in with ease. Eros was such a fun light funny read. I have loved every single one of her Greek Gods. But something about Eros just hits differently. This book gave me hope for love to find its way back to me. Seriously guys pick up this book. You won’t regret it. I also adore every little easter egg she throws at us. Seriously this book is a good time.

This is my first audiobook by Carly Spade and it was so good! The narrator nailed it and I found myself totally transfixed while listening. Highly recommend!
I received an audiobook code from the author in the hopes I'd review it.
My Rating: 5+ stars -
I have read and reviewed Carly’s Books for a while now and I love her Contemporary Mythos Series, every new release I think “Oh this one is my Favorite” but then she blows me away with the next one.
Eros is no different, How can you not adore a book about the God of love, this book was so perfect. Carly based this book in Canada so of course close to my heart, with a bit of travel to Scotland and Ireland. It had the romance, the Quirky female lead in Elani and lots of side characters including a few familiar faces from previous books. It made me laugh in the all the right places and I was SO happy with how the story concluded. Carly you definitely did it again. Loved it. I can’t wait for the next book in the series -
I usually love the characterizations of the Greek Gods that Carly Spade creates, and Eros was no exception on that. It might even be my favourite. I loved how she showed the different sides of him, also the sides in the past that might not be that great, but what I loved most about it, was that she let him show what love meant. And in this case, it meant not rushing, respecting her wishes in practically everything and not pushing her to do or feel anything that she's not (yet) comfortable with. The story (even though most of the books have the same patterns) was entertaining, I loved the setting in Scotland (big Outlander fan, so that shout out was great too). I also really loved the mentions of the previous stories.

I devoured this in less than 24 hours. With it’s fun 90s rom-com vibe, I just couldn’t put it down! I absolutely loved the slow burn of this one as well as the beautiful chemistry. A good portion is set in Scotland, which also makes me swoon! Great plot and amazing characters with a touch of cheesiness perfection. I highly recommend!

Elani Stewart runs a successful dating service, 'E-Romantic' which helps her customers find true love by matching them with their most compatible partner. She stopped believing in true love after her parents divorced and is happy with the way things are with her firm.
When her clients start dropping after proclaiming that a certain bartender at "The Arrow", a new bar in town, led them to the love of their lives, she decides to go and confront said bartender. What she doesn't expect is that she'll be up against the God of passion and love himself...
Elani was such a lovely and beautiful character. Her fears of finding true love and never getting her fairytale ending was portrayed in a very significant way. The way she overcame her fears and gave Eros a chance was so endearing to read through.
Eros was a perfect gentleman! Just reading about him made me believe that somehow, somewhere this God of passion and love might be real.
Also, there was so much chemistry between Elani and Eros! The passion between every touch and every kiss was just swoon-worthy.
I adored the friendship between Elani and her best friend, Alex. Alex was such a badass and I would love to read her own story!
The narration of each and every story of Greek Mythology was indeed incredible to read about. I liked how every story played an important part in the novel.
I read this book in one sitting and I throughly enjoyed it! Once again I'll say that these books would make such amazing movies! It would be a real treat to see the authors imagination come alive!
Plus, this series just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely loved reading the previous books in the series but this one has definitely topped the list and I'm so excited for more! -
This book gripped me from page one. I sat down to start it and didn’t stop for breath until I was 50% in, I finished it the same day. I loved it, from start to finish. It’s a quick, easy and swoonworthy. I’m so excited to read the other books in the series!
We follow Elani who runs an online dating company which focuses on compatibility rather than the romance to ensure her clients find long term relationships however, Elani herself has never used the algorithm to find a partner herself. She’s a bit of a cynic when it comes all things love. I like that about her, at 20something myself, I can definitely relate. Eric is the kinda guy we all hope to meet, witty, sexy and reliable he ticks the boxes. I love their dynamic, even when they don’t get on, theres an easy banter between the two.
This book will appeal to those who, like me, are obsessed with Greek mythology, a swoon-worthy romance and a hot mc. -
Wonderfully fantastic... The book was amazing... It had a lot of details and juicy scenes to it... The characters and their personalities match them perfectly... The plot and the storyline were very descriptive and amazing...
-
This series is amazing!!
Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better. This is the story of Eros and Elani.
Elani thinks she created an algorithm that matches people together and she celebrates every success... Except she can't seem to match herself. At a bar one night she is challenged by the Uber hot bartender to find her true love in just a few months. Little does she know, he's standing right in front of her, and he's not just any ole bartender but Cupid himself!
The story is written so well and so creative. I absolutely loved it and devoured it in one day!
I wholeheartedly recommend not only this book but the entire series!
I received an ARC for my honest review. -
I’m loving this series and to me this book is the best one so far it’s very emotional. Elani doesn’t believe in love but really deep down she wants to be loved for who she is but Elani refuses to give her heart away that all changes when she meets Eros aka Eric. There is so much more going on in this fantastic story but I will let you find that out for yourself and I highly recommend this book.
-
Not the worst of the series, but definitely not the best. This was fine if you have no desire to learn about Greek Mythology and simply want to read a romance book with the names "Eros" and "Aphrodite". If you are to read this, I would definitely recommend it for a summer read - by the pool or on the beach, preferably. Really anywhere you have some time to read, but don't want anything heavy or that you have to actively think about ... mainly because you learn nothing about mythology from this book. And that's okay! It's not marketed that way so there's no harm no foul, however it is my job to comment on that primarily rather than critique the writing style or anything along those lines!
-
I have not read many retellings of Greek God’s. I was only oriented with them by Rick Riordan books, so it was a nice experience reading about it. "Eros" the fourth instalment from the Contemporary Mythos series. Thank you Carly for the ebook and also this one is my first read from her. I must say I enjoyed it completely.
Now in to the book and how I felt.
Elani is shown as a confident women who questions everything and does not follow blindly, which is the best thing. She’s very relatable and runs a dating company which brought her to where she was supposed to be. Eros aka Eric is the Greek God and compliments Elani in every sense. From the first step where they meet, the fire between them is clearly visible and I was all for the banter. The description of the wings was an eye candy. The chemistry between them was intense and mysterious and the history which followed was even more so, I didn’t see that coming. It is quite fun to read and the very interesting, sizzling part begins when Elani sets foot on the Scottish land. It’s a slow burn fast paced story.
This contemporary romance took my heart away.
If you like Greek mythology then this book is for you. -
WOO! I read through these Contemporary Mythos books in 2 weeks and loooved them! Eros was no exception and by far my favorite. Eros is just 🥵 🥵 Which I guess he would be, being the God of Love 😏 But he wasn’t what I expected!! Oh no no this is not the Eros of Lore Olympus or anything else, this is a more complex Eros! And I looooooved it. This is a slow burn with a bit of angst and I absolutely just 👌🏻👌🏻 So good.
-
This is my favorite Eros retelling so far. Not much steam, but the tension is like flirty banter tension and then pure tension midway. I might have a soft spot for any sort of book that has some sort of Scotland tie though. Most of the book is from the female's POV till the end. The myth world building was interesting!

Competing with the Expert . . .
Elani Stewart has a matchmaking company, despite the fact she does not believe in love due to her parents’ divorce and her own bad history. So she bases her matching on a scientific algorithm to find compatible partners. Having a couple clients cancel because they found love through some guy at a bar, Elani had to go check it out before her business suffered a loss.
The Arrow bar is run by the bartender Eric. He suggested that they make a bet where she uses her unemotional, logical program to match herself to a guy. If she finds her Mr. Right within 3 months, then Eric will stop matchmaking. If she doesn’t, he wants to edit her current code. She doesn’t want him touching her code, but he reminded her she said it works, so no worry about losing, except that she is going up against the god Eros, the god of Love and Passion, so the competition is tougher than she realized! Will she win this one? Or perhaps, either way, she will come out a winner…
This was a cute story line with likable characters. I loved every bit of Elani’s journey to finding love. And who is better to teach her all about it than Eros? Grab your copy and enjoy a well-told story. -
I really liked this fun little Greek God/mortal romance starring Eros himself. Spade has put together a very readable romance in Eros, starring a sympathetic heroine who gives the reader the perfect view into the series world. The story was a fun ride with down-to-earth elements mixed in with bits of the immortal gods, and a liberal dash of Scotland and Scottish heritage to further entice the reader. I’ve enjoyed a few god/mortal romances in my time, and this is my second time racing through a novel in Spade’s Contemporary Mythos series. She’s got a way of creating wonderful characters who are truly meant for each other, and bringing them together just perfectly, and Eros is a perfect example of those talents. It’s a book that you come away with definite sense of happily ever after. I look forward to seeing what she has in store for readers next!

This book was a fun, clever new modern take on the Eros and Psyche myth. I loved how Spade tied in dating websites and the algorithms that people try to rely on these days and how they contrast to traditional dating methods. Watching Elani recover from the past dating traumas she'd faced because a hot, aggravating, perfect -in-plaid bartender coaxed her into trusting love again was amazing. Eric left me drooling as I read. I'm not gonna lie, LOL. I also really enjoyed seeing how both their parents and families both pushed them and tried to protect them in the best ways they could along their romantic path. I am so excited now to go and check out the other books in this series!

Another 5✿ review. Why is that? With my reviews, I try to not only judge how a book is written. To be bland, not every book is a masterpiece of English literature, a feast of poetry, and virtuous, but that's not what matters to me, not at all. What matters to me is how a book makes me feel. And this book? This book made me remember how it feels to fall in love. So, what's the book about?
We are confronted with Elani, a young woman who lost her belief that love–true love–exists. At least until she meets Eric, a man who will tilt the axis of her world, and vice versa. And what begins as snarky bantering soon starts to change both of their lives, and Elani must realize, that love requires bravery.
𝔼𝕣𝕠𝕤 is a modern retelling of the classical Eros-Psyche myth with a typical Carly Spade-twist on the original myth, refreshing and enthralling. This book gave me honest 'first date jitter' feels, from falling in love to how a relationship–walking the line between friendship and passion–ought to look. Further, the scenery being–mainly–the picturesque Highlands, garnished with cocky arguments and brilliant incorporation of musical pieces, make 𝔼𝕣𝕠𝕤 so much stronger in its entirety, and I would love to give it more ✿
A must for fans and a clear recommendation for fans of Laura Thalassa. -
Okay, well...I'm obsessed!
I have not yet read the rest of the Contemporary Mythos series, but you better believe they will be devoured soon enough! That being said, I was able to dive right into this book without feeling like I missed important backstory as each one is about a new God. SO if you're new to the series like me, don't worry and start with whatever God tickles your fancy! ;)
Eros is quite charming (both the God and the book ;)). Even for a story centered around love and passion, I greatly appreciated the slower-burn, lack of insta-love, connection. The relationship(s) took time to develop and because of that, felt so much more realistic. The leading lady, Elani, had some great growth through the entire story as well making the progression and pacing spot on.
"I'd be lying if I said the desire to lick his face wasn't strong." Literally my favorite line 'cause I can so relate!
This is a very well-rounded contemporary romance novel with just a sprinkling of magic, it's truly the perfect blend. Definitely recommend!
Huge thank you goes out to Carly Spade via Literary Bound Tours for the advanced finished copy to read and review! -
"You're my impossible possibility, Eros."
I loved it so much!! Eros and Lani are so cute! And I really loved the trip to Scotland 😍😍
