    The way that
Carly Spade reimagines Greek mythology is fun, dirty, and comes with some battles. Mythology has never been a strong suit for me, but I really like this series. Not only are the back stories told, it's fascinating and a bit naughty.

Simon and Cordelia "Cori" are given a second chance at forever. There are so many things that I enjoyed - the banter, chemistry, the merging of their pasts without each other. And then there are the challenges. So many challenges. Not just them overcoming misunderstandings and misplaced priorities, but also trying to right some past wrongs against others. I really like that they faces them, instead of ignoring and moving on.

This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Cori and Simon do reunite but there's a problem they aren't able to solve yet related to a child of theirs. To make up for it, I suppose, there is a second love story for Meg, Cori's best friend, and the promise of one for another character.

I really like how Simon / Poseidon assimilates into Cori's mortal world, even after she regains her title and powers. It makes it all the cuter.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrator is Carly Robins. This was my first time listening to her.

I have nothing good to say about this one other than the original idea was pretty good.

But come on. It's like watching a Lifetime movie, my brain didn't get any stimulus from reading it.

I absolutely love all of Carly Spade’s books, but this one stands out for me. We are still in the contemporary Mythos series, but for this book, we get to see a second chance love story and I am obsessed!!! If you love Greek mythology, you have to check out this series!

Holy Atlantis!!! This has some incredible twists that I never saw coming!!!

Cory was such a fun, quirky, nerdy heroine. I loved everything about her. She was so different from the average romance heroine. She worked a couple of jobs, both original and interesting. One had me smiling as I read along and the other had me flinching a time or two. I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to some parts of nature…as in the deep blue sea.

The meeting between Simon and Cory had me reading between the lines and second guessing all that I was conjuring in my mind. I was correct about one particular thing, but that was the very least of what this couple had to offer. They clicked immediately which led to some amazing interactions which led to all kinds of twists and turns and then, oh my!!!

This story has layer upon layer and the unveiling of all that is within it kept me engaged from the very beginning. While this couple definitely finds their happy place, this does give us a bit of a hook for another book. I’m curious to see where this author is going to take us.

"A mysterious man was swept into my path by ocean winds and misunderstood identity. It was a thing of fairy tales."

Ugh I love them so much!!! 😍😍😭😭 This entire series is just absolutely amazing and this book is no different! I really love the second chance vibes of this story and how Cori has this connection to the sea even though she doesn't understand exactly where it comes from at first. Her and Simon are so adorable together though! 💙💙 And all of the sea-puns are just fantastic! 🤣

"I was a ravenous humpback whale with an endless appetite for Simon krill."

Don't you just love it when you're diving into a story that was your least anticipated read of a series, and you have no idea how you're going to feel about it, so you just go into it with an open mind... and when you come out of reading it, you do so with an immediate need to reread it all over again?

Poseidon was that for me and believe me when I say that if I wasn't currently drowning in my TBR, I'd have flicked back to page one and devoured this second-chance romance all over again.

His grip tightened on my hand as if now that he had me, he never planned to let go.

I don't think any story in the Contemporary Mythos Series can beat Eros as being my favourite, but I won't deny that Poseidon came at a very close second. It's a story that is more than just a second-chance, Greek God reimagining; it's a second-chance romance with a twist, with sci-fi elements, a gamer heroine who loves the ocean and its sea-life just as much as she loves aquatic based video games, a surfer hero whose true identity is that of the King of the Seas, and a lot of fun cameos from Gods and Goddesses both known and unknown to this series - gods and goddesses who leave enough of an impression to have you hoping and praying that they'll get stories of their own.

But more than that, it's also a story full of danger and action, of righting the wrongs of past mistakes, owning up to those past mistakes and of fighting for each other when those hiding around every corner are ready to tear both apart. Nothing for Cordelia and Poseidon - who goes by the name of Simon for a good chunk of this novel - was easy, but their chemistry was strong, their growing love for each other stronger, and it has enough of that second-chance angst to keep us readers hooked.

You could just tell that Carly Spade has been branching out with her storytelling in the last few books of this series, but she's stretched those branches wide with this standalone.

It was like Carly had a goal for Poseidon, and that was to make it different from the other books of this series - to make it really stand out - and I can confidently say that she's succeeded. Everything you know and love from this series is delivered yet again here in Poseidon, along with so much more. It's a feel-good romance with that perfect dose of suspense, humour, and sex to keep us readers hooked. It's also got some of the best action scenes that Carly has written to date, along with some magnificent writing that makes it easy for us readers to feel like we're there in the story, and not just reading words on paper (a talent of hers that she's only ever continued to perfect the more books it is she writes). And when the story wasn't leaving me panicked at what was to come next - be it a sea monster waiting to tear our love birds apart, or a memory from the past too painful to ignore - it was making me laugh out loud at the never-ending humour that is a constant throughout this book.

Heck, even during the danger, Cordelia and Poseidon still managed to have me laughing out loud at their natural banter together. I swear, they made this story such a fun and funny one to devour!!

"Honey, I'm trying to repair Atlantis?"
"I'm so sorry sweetie, I'll be sure to ask the Kraken if it wouldn't mind tossing me in the other direction."

I just absolutely loved this book. I absolutely loved the story.

I do hope that this isn't the last we see of Cordelia and Poseidon, and I mean that in the sense of: I don't just want them to have a short story where we see how they're holding up. I want them to have another full-length novel. Especially after how this story ended. Clearly things aren't done for Cordelia and Poseidon - they've still got one more thing to do to get their happy ending - and with how Carly left us as to where they are heading next...? Gah, I'm just SO BLOOMING EXCITED FOR IT!!

So... yeah. My least anticipated read of the series has turned into my second favourite read of the series. The relationship between Poseidon and Cordelia was strong despite being slow-moving at first, and slowly over the course of this story, they just continued to effortlessly claim my heart. I absolutely loved Cordelia and all that she brought to the novel, and I loved the love that Poseidon had for her. At times he wasn't a favourite for me as I'm not a fan of OG Poseidon (probably why I wasn't excited at times to read this book), but I can't deny that I love Carly's version of him. I love how she wove old legends and tales of Poseidon into this story, and I'm just excited to see what it is she delivers next for Cordelia and Poseidon, and the next stage of their journey.

And so, to conclude this review, all I'll say now is, if you love this series or love stories full of second chance angst and gamer lingo, then I just know you will love this fifth instalment, Poseidon.

"Beyond the stars. Beyond the moon. The sea really did lead us together, Starfish." His warm palm pressed against my cheek, making me flutter my eyes open.
"And it will never tear us apart again."

Oh, and that Zeus sneak peek?! Listen... I've been reading this series from the moment Hades came out. And I have been waiting for Zeus's book from the moment he made his appearance there. And finally... FINALLY HE IS COMING!! His role in this story was PERFECT and was the best set-up for his own novel. And seriously, I'm so excited and cannot wait to see how Carly will pull it off!

And I've also got to give a special shout out to Triton. All I'll say is... he's mine. So back off people.

I was twelve when I first read the stories about the Greek Gods. I can't pinpoint exactly why I loved them so much, why I read them over and over and over until it became an obsession. Looking at the books currently published it's quite clear I'm not the only one. Greek Gods are everywhere! But, this series might be one of my favorites! Mostly because it shows us the Gods in a different light. I was therefore quite excited when I managed to grab an arc from BookSprout.

Spade is an amazing storyteller, but what surprises me the most is that she makes sure that each story is and feels different. This story was especially unique. Yes, it starts very typical: Girl meets Boy, Boy likes Girl, Girl likes Boy, but quite soon Spade turns the entire story upside down. It's therefore more than a simple standard romance. I don't want to give too much away, but if you like second chance romances you might want to check this one out.

I also had the feeling that the mythology was way more present in this book than in previous books. Loads of characters and Gods had a guest appearance, making this book even more fun if you've read all the previous books AND are planning to read the future books, and we get to see a lot more powers and gifts and magic. I have to admit that I never really had a connection with the God of the Sea and I didn't really have one in this book either, but I do like how the sea is just as much of a character as Poseidon and his girl.

And because the mythology is so present it's also clear that Spade really knows her source material. And she's especially aware of the mistakes the Gods made. I think we can all agree that the history between Poseidon and Medusa is far from pretty. Although I think it's not addressed entirely as it was, Spade does acknowledge that something happened and that Poseidon owes Medusa an apology. I now truly can't wait to see how she's gonna make Zeus love-worthy!

  • Lover of Romance

Poseidon is the fifth installment in the "Contemporary Mythos" series and this might just be my favorite of the series so far. There was so much goodness in here and I just couldn't get enough of it. I will say that I had high expectations out of this one, as Posdeidon has always been a personal favorite in Greek mythology. I was truly fascinated to see how Carly Spade built up this story and the way that the romance grew in this one. I did go into this one blind, which I highly recommend. I am glad that I didn't even read the blurb for this one even. I do feel like going into this story blind will make the reader be more swept away by the story. And in this review I even want to be a bit more careful on what I actually discuss because I don't want it to be spoiled too much here.

What I found most profound about this one was seeing the way that there is such a instant bond between these two. I was completely drawn into this story from the very first chapter, and I was so charmed by their flirting with each other. We also see so much depth that is crafted within this story that just made you appreciate what the author creates within this installment. I so wanted to cheer these two one, and its such a perfect summer read as well. If you are a strong fan of mythological romance, then you definitely need to grab this author up. These books are just so delightful in every way!

  • Merrit Townsend (always1morebook)

All the books in this series occur in contemporary times where all the greek gods have a place upon earth. They each have some kind of "job" or special existence within contemporary times. Carley Spade has written a series with stand-alone books and each book will be focused on one god.

Book Five in the Contemporary Mythos: Poseidon, King of the Seas

I have read these books in order and I am absolutely loving this series...I think Simon...AKA Poseidon...has taken 1st place as my favorite in this series... That's a hard thing to do as this is one of my favorite greek god series that I have read. The writing was flawless and continues to be a great romantic series. It is easy to read and has all the aspects of a fun ,sexy read. I will continue reading this series and am looking forward to daddy Zeus's story! This book gets 5 stars.

O meu favorito.

This book get a whooping 5 starfish !!!

It was absolutely scrumptious. I devoured it, as I always do with these books. But let me tell you this is my favourite so far. Carly blew it out of the water.

The puns and banter keep you giggling throughout. My nerdy heart was bursting with pop culture references. Poseidon is absolutely delicious.

This is the perfect pallet cleanser read. It's light and fluffy and left me wanting more. I didn't want to leave the contemporary mythos world when I was done so I picked up the Valentines novella as a dessert to Poseidon.

  • Tati Alvarez

I’m obsessed with the cover of this, just had to say that! Poseidon had a different vibe than the others in the series and if you are a fan of cute nerdy girl getting with sexy athletes, this is definitely something you would enjoy! Great edition to the series. I’m excited for Zeus. 👀

I was fortunate enough to snag a copy of the ARC for Poseidon! This book was way out of my realm of what I normally read and I loved it! I loved the modern retelling of Poseidon and Amphitrite! I love the aspect of the second chance romance and the way she retold their story! It was a swoon worthy romance and I was not disappointed! If you love mythology and second chance romances this one is for you!

  • Candice Willman

I devoured this as usual. I love this series so much. Poseidon is amazing and loved this story. It was tragic but amazing and so swoon. Each book gets a little bit steamier. Carly is amazing and definitely one of my fav mythology series.

For any fans of Carly's #ContemporaryMythos series, you're about to treat yourself! For new fans to the series, you'll be served a sweet second chance story that'll make you laugh and swoon.

𝗜𝗻-𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹: I. love. the fish jokes. They're right up my alley! Had to get this out first. 😬

Cory–the FMC–is an amazing, charming character and it feels SO GOOD to see the female gaming community represented! 🎮
Poseidon? He. is. ON IT! WHEW. He definitely doesn't let his chances slide. And why does he have to be so non-chalant and charming? It's just not fair to real men. 😂

The chemistry between the two–their easyness and banter is something else entirely; they're the ultimate couple goal. Also, I hereby declare Carly the 𝕯𝖚𝖈𝖍𝖊𝖘𝖘 𝖔𝖋 𝖇𝖆𝖓𝖙𝖊𝖗! Being a second chance romance, Cor & Seid know each others faults and maturely tackle problems resulting in a unison which I've rarely seen in other novels, and I really enjoyed to see their relationship blossom anew.

I also felt right at home with the setting. The love for the sea reverberates through every line of text, and as someone who grew up with it (plus being a gamer) this book really hit right in the heart for me. 💘

On a last note, I love the little easter eggs throughout the book! Mentions of other indie books or authors, which makes me love the bookish community even more.

  • Sarah Elyse | Retro Girl Reads

Cordelia Bourne is an oceanographer, and she lives and breathes the sea. She often feels shy in social situations, preferring to let her best friend Meg do the talking. But when Simon Thalassa, a gorgeous pro surfer, takes an interest in her, Cory begins to hope for something more.

However, Cory’s life gets complicated quickly when Simon is revealed to be Poseidon, Greek god of the sea. And not only is that true, but she is the reincarnation of Amphitrite, his wife. Now Cory must make a decision - stay a mortal forever and lose the love of her life, or become a goddess again - and be the queen she was always meant to be.

Oh my gosh, yes. Carly Spade’s entire Contemporary Mythos series is utterly spectacular, but this one is actually my favorite!!! Poseidon and Cordelia’s relationship is so intricate and unique, and I loved watching it heal, develop, and grow over the course of the novel. I also especially loved that Cordelia never lost her love for the sea, even when she didn’t know who she was.

Poseidon. He’s made mistakes, that’s for sure, but he’s learned from them, and he’s grown as a person as a result. I loved how fiercely protective he was of Cordelia, and how he gave her the freedom to make her own decisions. Cordelia. She is such a sweetheart, I really admired how she didn’t just jump back into Poseidon’s arms. She really thought about what was best for her, and I respect that. She has such a kind and caring nature as well. I would definitely recommend!

  • Rachel Emily

The Contemporary Mythos books center around different Greek gods but all in present day time. I may have jumped into this series at book 5, but now this means that I have plenty of reading to go back and catch up on, because I absolutely loved this second chance romance!

Once I started reading I could not put this book down! First off, I have to say just how much I loved Cordelia. She was such a strong female MC, a badass gamer (this might be my favorite thing about her actually lol), and oceanographer and conservationist. I just loved her strength and independence throughout all of this.

The main story centers around Cordelia and Poseidon, AKA Simon the famous surfer, and just how they are connected to each other. I love their connection and how great their banter and chemistry was right from the start. I won't say anything to give major book spoilers away, but as the two grow closer and so many secrets come to light, I love the journey they took to reunite. And honestly, I feel like their story isn't over - it definitely makes me need more time with this couple!

Now I'm definitely looking forward to Zeus' book!

I received a copy from MTMC Tours to review and post, thank you for the gifted copy!

This book started as such a sweet romance story. It was cute, interesting and I wanted more. Literally couldn't put the book down, and then the story became something else entirely and it was so fascinating! Especially how that change worked out so well and the two let's-call-it parts merged so beautifully.

I was honestly so enamored with these two and so fascinated with their story! I loved reading about Greek mythology and such an epic love story. Poseidon left me craving more Greek mythology books, more books about mermaids, and more books in this series. I can't wait to go back and read the rest of the series cause I could not have enjoyed this more.

I've absolutely loved each of the Contemporary Mythos books thus far and Poseidon is equally as compelling. Another feel-good love story with a fun mythology twist. And that cover...holy crow.

The main character, Cordelia is absolutely fantastic! I just love that she's a pro-gamer and, of course, Simon...yes! That's it, just yes, two thumbs way up. The banter and chemistry between both Simon and Cordelia is spot on, exactly what I've come to hope for from these books. Get ready to laugh out loud! :) Meg is a wonderful side character as well. The friendship between her and Cordelia was so wholesome and it just felt good. I'm glad the story wrapped fully around their friendship as well and it didn't get left behind or forgotten.

The story is fast-paced and intriguing. There's a lot of mythology elements mixed in and I loved that. There is a heck of a cliffhanger that I'm sure will be rounded up in Zeus' story and now I've got some...theories about where his story could lead...
    I can't wait!

Huge thank you to Carly Spade via Literary Bound Tours for the copy to read, enjoy, and honestly review!

I finished Poseidon over the weekend and oh my goodness, let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Granted, I'm 100% a Carly Spade fangirl, but minor details.

Poseidon is Carly's latest installment in the Contemporary Mythos series and I loved meeting new faces, and seeing old ones. This book (the entire series really) is so sweet and I always enjoy getting wrapped up in the romances. Ares and Eros from this series will always be my number ones, but Seid puts up a really good fight!!

For some reason, I did struggle a little bit with this book, because I feel like the video game aspect was really important in the beginning but then it kind of disappeared in the middle. I was glad it came back at the end. Also, even though I've read all the Contemporary Mythos books, the flashbacks felt more disjointed than they used to. But overall, I still enjoyed the book.

    4.5/5, rounded up to 5

  • Amanda

What an amazing book! I mean gaming and love of the ocean in a book, I am sold. I definitely was not disappointed. I truly enjoyed how Cordelia grew and learned about her past. I was hooked the whole time and wanted to see them develop a relationship, but also very interested in how everything was going to unfold. It has a bit of everything in it, but one of my favorite moments was when Poseidon got her to use the trident in the video game, or maybe when they played together. There definitely were a lot of great moments, keeping you reading. If you are a gamer, you will definitely enjoy this book. I highly recommend you give it a try. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Im absolutely loving this Contemporary Mythos series. With Greek Gods living normal lives in the Human World. Oceanographer and Gamer Cory (Corelia) gets a lot more than she bargained for when she meets professional surfer Simon (Poseidon). I liked their easy going and relaxed dynamic. It was genuinely sweet with all the cute banter they had together. A great addition to this series and a great read too

  • Marjolein

I really loved the slightly different structure of this book, compared to the other ones. It gave room to more gods popping up, without too much introduction or easing them in, which is a lot of fun. I liked the characterization of Poseidon and the focus on the sea and sea life (which makes a lot of sense). The set up for Zeus makes me want more!

  • Emily Pennington

    Cory and Simon's Secret . . .

Oceanographer Cordelia Bourne (“Cory”) has always had some kind of tie to the sea. Meeting pro surfer, Simon Thalassa, somehow strengthens that connection and he feels familiar to her. Will something trigger her memory? Will she remember who Simon was to her and how they are connected?

  • Allena

I have LOVED this entire series so far.

This was different from the others, kinda like a second chance and was intriguing. We meet Hera, Aphrodite, Dionysus and others.

Good flow, great characters with amazing storyline.

I loved Cordelia and Simon. They were fun characters. I enjoyed their chemistry and their banter with each other. Cute fish interactions and wonderful world building.
