But when the company director announces Ace, front man of the band Apollo's Suns would have a special appearance in their new production, she had no idea she'd be amidst the King of the Muses himself.
And when magical things start happening, things she can't rationally explain, she'll discover there's more to rock star Ace than an ego the size of Mount Olympus and a dazzling smile that could put the sun to shame.

Taming the Rockstar God
I really enjoyed my first audio book of the year. ๐ฅณ It was a great way to kick off 2022! ๐ฅณ
Apollo "Ace" is quite the... personality. Laurel is a grounding force for him. I like him with Laurel... a lot. She pulls out his better qualities, although he does still display the cocky, arrogant aspects on occasion.
Laurel has been burned and is leery of the rockstar god. She's alone in the world except for her best friend, Kate, but finds her muse in Apollo's presence. It's sweet.
There was more humor than I expected, something I enjoyed. ๐๐ Here's an example:"When I said I'd help you bury a body, I was speaking metaphorically. " - Kate, Laurel's best friend
Again, I have read and enjoyed this series in random order. It is very unlike me but I went where the author took me with her ALCs. I did like the little tie ins to other characters in the series. It's fun to see the various interactions, like Kate lusting after Eros / Eric at Arrows bar.
I liked the narration by Elizabeth Chappel. She did a good job with the various female voices. The men may have been a little feminine but not bad. Poseidon may have been my favorite male, coming across as the ultimate surfer dude. ๐

I received an arc of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!
โNo matter what your decision,โ he started, his thumbs brushing over each of my cheekbones. โJust know youโre already a goddess.โ
My review is spoiler free and it will updated with more details after release.
If youโre a fan of Greek mythology and swoon worthy romance. Iโm begging you to read this series! I loved Hades and I knew Iโd love Apollo just from the small scenes he had in the first book, but I didnโt think heโd become my new favorite so quickly!
The message in this story was beautiful. I found myself relating to Laurel and how she felt caged in and stuck within a shell. To watch her and Apollo open themselves up to each other and break free from that hold was perfect.
Oh and that excerpt for the next book? All I can say is bring on, Ares! Haha

Great Gods, this was wonderful!!! I loved Hades and didnโt think I could love Apollo even a fraction as much but I was so wrong.
This couple were so much fun as they began with a touch of animosity between them, especially on Laurelโs part. Apolloโs responses to her were fun even as they cranked her irritation higher. Heโs definitely all rockstar on the surface but as Laurel gets to know him, he became so much more...and thatโs not including being a god.
This is a fast read with low angst, great additional characters, and the development of Apolloโs and Laurelโs in a believable manner. I love the remakes of fairy tales and have recently, thanks in part to Hades, started craving books that incorporate the Greek gods into the story. Thanks to this author, I may have plenty to read in the future and if the rest are anything like this, Iโm all set for happy times!

Apollo was such a fun book and it had me laughing all over the place. I was looking for some fun times as I received in Hades, and while I enjoyed it just as much, it definitely had a more playful vibe to it. The hero is the demi god Apollo, so you just know its going to be different. I really was intrigued by his abilities and how he used them. I adored the heroine so dearly. She is a ballerina and not fazed by the hero's fame and I liked that she stood up to him and was refreshing for him. I had a blast with their bantering and I loved how well she accepted him being a demi god, as it felt realistic and not overly dramatic. I was charmed by the romance, but the heat level was strange. I would say this is "closed door" but there are mentions of sexual desire and built up of chemistry so I found it such a unique experience that the author has implemented in her stories. From the covers, you do expect more heat, but I do like the way that she has written these books so far and I am so intrigued by Apollo's family members and I can't seem to wait for their books.

I loved the first book in this series, and I fell even more in love with Apollo! I always enjoy Carlyโs writing and the fun little gems she weaves into her stories! If you love Greek mythology, this fun new spin on Apollo is for you! I highly recommend it!
-
This book was so epic so beautiful and I have never been so happy to then to read a book where Apollo gets his happy ending. Thank you so much for creating this breathtaking gem of a book. I really love the new twist you put on all the Greek Mythology Characters.
Thanks so much for letting me read this epic book. -

Well, I read it in one stand, so that's a really good thing!
I really enjoyed the book, is fast paced, funny and not boring at all. I love Greek Myths and the way it portrays them in the modern world.
I thought this was the first book, turned out it was the second, but it didn't mattered.
If you are looking for something to end a reading slump, I would recommend this book. -
I swear to the gods I would pay any amount of money to see Apollo and Laurelโs show--another glorious mythological retelling from Carly Spade! Once again, Spade crafts sweet and addictive chemistry between her lovers while also developing a solid, relatable female friendship between the MC and her bestie Kate. My favorite part of Spadeโs style is the inclusion of many pop culture references throughout the narrative that make reading her stories so much freaking fun.
Music was the heart of this novel and I do not know that I have ever encountered an author who so beautifully depicts music and dance on the page. I highly recommend this book for any readers who love art in any form--this story will totally speak to your soul! If youโre a Greek Mythology nerd like me, you will be obsessed; the best way I can describe my thoughts is simply to say that Hades and Apollo both feel like Percy Jackson for the NA audience--both brilliant mythological retellings with tons of comedy and steam!
Apollo made me feel altogether warm and fuzzy inside and I can say with absolute confidence, if you are looking for a book/author to swiftly pull you out of a reading slump, look no further than Carly Spadeโs Contemporary Mythos series! Devoid of unnecessary complexity pervading many fantasy romances and chock full of those crafty connections to both ancient Greek myths AND pop culture, Apollo proved to be exactly the kind of book I needed in this super busy season of my life!
4.5/5 stars -
This book has a sliver of my very soul embossed within its pages. I truly hope you enjoy the journey and feel that "spark" :-D

Rock stars arenโt my typical jam, but this author gave a twist worth trying. SO glad I did. Unique and fresh, great style. If youโre a fan of Greek mythology, fated mates, and good writingโthis is a great one!

From the moment I finished reading Hades, Apollo immediately became one of my most highly anticipated reads of the rest of 2020. Not only because Apollo himself left enough of an impact on me in Hades to naturally leave me curious to know his story, especially after reading that sneak peek at the end of Hades that immensely upped my excitement for Apollo. Oh no; I immediately began craving for this story when I realised that it was two of my all-time favourite tropes combined: a Greek mythology reimagining, and a rock star fucking romance.
Literally my two absolute F A V O U R I T E tropes... ever. Combined. Into one story.
AndohmyGodthisbookwaseverythingIwashopingitwouldbe!
Now that I know what to expect from this series, my enjoyment was not dimmed whatsoever when I realised that these books wouldn't be the magic-filled, drama-heavy, fights and darkness and bloodshed galore madness that I originally thought they would be. Nope. Now that I know what to really expect from this series, there was nothing stopping me from expecting and setting high hopes for a funny and romantic and entertaining romance that'd make me laugh so loud I'd give myself a headache, smile so hard my cheeks would ache, and swoon so many times that I'd constantly leave myself breathless. And did Apollo deliver all that and more - that more being a slow-burn, haters-to-lovers romance too? You bet it did.
"For hundreds of thousands of years, I've spent my life inspiring others. For the first time... Someone has inspired me."
I'd only started reading this book on the Sunday morning as a way for me to have a nice, light read before diving head first into a busy and hectic day. Next thing I knew, it was the Sunday night and I'd done absolutely nothing but read this romance - I could not put it down!
Told entirely in our female lead, Laurel's perspective - and if you don't get why the name Laurel is both so important and hilarious in a story surrounding the Greek God Apollo, look it up - we follow this ballet dancer as she's dragged by her best friend to an Apollo's Suns concert after said friend wins free front row seat tickets and backstage passes. Throughout the entire performance, Laurel is unimpressed by everything going on, and Apollo - the God, the rock star, and the man who goes by the name of Ace throughout this story - can't help but notice that she is.
So when they officially meet backstage... Well, let's just say they didn't get along very well. But that's fine, because Laurel never plans on meeting the cocky rock star ever again. However, when Laurel heads to her dance class the next day where everyone is preparing to rehearse for their new show, it's then that the new star male lead of the performance is announced.
Want to take a guess who it is?
"Well, well, if it isn't the Ice Queen herself." His presence loomed over me like a harsh shadow.
"Ah," I started before turning on my heel with a flick of my chin. "The pompous ass."
Just like Hades, Apollo was an absolute treat of a story to read, and I just know that I'll be rereading it again and again and again in the future. It's one of those books that easily brought a smile to my face at the back and forth banter between Laurel and Apollo; their chemistry and developing relationship kept me on the edge of my seat just dying to see where things between them would go to next. We got to have more magic to this story that was so vivid and beautiful to see thanks to Carly Spade's magnificent writing... God, what more is there to say? This book was just PERFECT!
And it was absolutely hilarious too. And somewhat realistic, in a sense. And honestly, I think the reason why Carly Spade has become one of my favourite authors with her Contemporary Mythos Series is because she absolutely nails her reimagining's for these Greek Gods.
She doesn't just take these Gods' names and then mould them into her own character. She does her research of these Gods', matches the story and the heroine to the God perfectly, and then plays their story out so, SO beautifully that I find myself absolutely entranced from start to finish. I feel as though some authors make their Greek God romances either too ridiculous to take seriously, or serious enough to bore me to death. But Carly Spade... She just does it right. She sticks to most key elements of the actual mythology, yet still adds her own twists to the tale to make it modern, and original, and very entertaining, so it's neither too ridiculous nor serious to turn this reader off. And that is honestly what I loved the most about Hades, and it's what I loved to see again here in Apollo.
And now, it's what I'm very excited to see in the next book of the Contemporary Mythos Series, Ares. And in Eros. And in Poseidon and Zeus too. I'm just all in all excited to see whatever it is Carly Spade delivers next for these Gods in general, because I know no matter what, it will not be a disappointing read for me, which is why I cannot recommend this series highly enough. Hades was not disappointing, neither was Apollo. And I just know that this series will only get better from here.
His smooth cheek pressed to mine, โEรญmai o รญlios, allรก fotรญzeis ton drรณmo.โ
"Mm. What does it mean?"
"I am the sun, but you light the way."

I enjoyed this book more then i expected, this authors writing has a certain charm that just works for me. Mythology is always a theme i adore and i love how adapts to fit the gods in modern day with this series.
Apollo has never been a favourite for me and yet i fell in love with him here, his admiration for Laurel and their banter was great. The push and pull between them, the challenge and competition - i enjoyed their chemistry.
Laurel surprised me too, i loved her passion for ballet and her desire to be in a lead role. That she keeps trying and her moments of pure freedom, when the music flows through her are wonderful.
Dancing is something i love and was beautiful, to see so much of throughout this story. Apollo and Laurel together as they find inspiration together, yet capable alone too its stunning and they compliment each other so well.
Getting to see a little of Hades and Steph was wonderful too. Along with Artemis who is my favourite goddess, i loved how she is shown here. Oh and of course a moment of Ares, shall be looking forward to his story.
Overall it was an easy read with entertaining characters and plenty of passion, with a sweet ending! ๐ -
Iโm really enjoying this series, theyโre so easy to read! RTC!

Summary: Laurelโs career as a ballerina is going relatively well, that is until Ace, the somewhat hot but highly obnoxious lead of the famous Apolloโs Suns gets tangled in their rehearsal. This book!! Fast, witty and hot read which I couldnโt put down once I started! Iโd pay good money to see Ace and Laurelโs show and I literally felt the music and movement flowing through me as I read! I would definitely recommend this one - this isnโt just a book but an experience!โฃ -
Egotistical, cocky and the lead singer of the band Apollo's Sun's - Ace (aka Apollo) has his work cut out for him when he meets ballerina - Laurel. Mainly because she cant stand him. Which is unlike every other woman hes ever met. I literally cracked up with the banter these two had together. They definitely steam together too. Its a really great read and i loved that Hades & Stephanie popped up in this book too. Im looking forward to Ares book but i wonder if Apollo's sister Artemis will get her own book too??

These books are for me the perfect in between read, and Apollo did not disappoint. It's a lovely romance story, with a great depiction of Apollo. He's the perfect mix between the old Greek god and a modern rock star, without losing anything what made him Apollo. The love story is nicely built up, and what I particularly loved was the focus on creating a connection between Laurel and Apollo instead of just focusing on the sex part of it all (which was there as well, of course :D ). All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next one!

This is one of the best examples when passion and shared interest makes the best power couple! ๐คฉWhen ballet meets music! Everything came in full circle at the end! The foreshadowing and the ending was very very EPIC!!! ๐ฅฐIt wasn't just ur normal HEA, it was so fitting and beautiful there is like no better ending!
Underneath all this greek mythology and glamour, I see a super healthy relationship based on shared passion and careers! These relationships are the ones that are meant to last and keep the fire burning as they inspire each other artistically and emotionally! ๐This is slight enemies to lovers but not much of opposites attract but similar attract, two souls drawn to music and art in all forms! You could very much say they were meant for each other like it was written in the stars! ๐
This is a very light-hearted and music filled creative ride ! My only petition is beard or stubble for Apollo! ๐คฃ I do appreciate the non-asshole and not so fboy rock star in all his Chris Hemsworth glory! ๐๐
Let's just say Laurel being a ballerina and Ace being who he is... makes things very very convenient.... ๐ฅด
This makes me really really want to brush up on my Greek mythology again! I used to be obsessed with them as a kid! And I also am intrigued with Hades and Stephanie!
The side characters are also super likeable! You can totally see the next few books in this book! So fcking excited for Ares' book!!!!! The brooding MMA fighter hero... can life get better than this....????? ๐ฑโค๏ธ -
I am honored that I was given an advanced Readers Copy of Apollo from Carly! Since reading Hades I've been anxious with anticipation for book two! The downside is that I have to now wait for book three. ๐คฃ
I am the sun, but you light the way. Oh, Apollo finally found his muse. And even though I've been obsessed with Hades for as long as I can remember I may love Apollo a little bit more.
Oh! And the last sentence of the book was golden and I can't stop thinking about it. -
I've been desperately waiting to read the story of Apollo since reading Hades, which is book one in the series and it was everything I was expecting and so much more.
Apollo aka Ace, is living a rockstar life, his passion for creativity brings him to the stage every day. Fans adore him, all women fall at his feet except one.
Laurel, is a ballet dancer. Her passion for everything that is art is what I adore about her. She is such a grate character, honestly a breath of fresh air. She is the perfect person and muse to bring a God's attention.
Through out the whole story the sensual tension between Apollo and Laurel is off the charts HOT!!
Again, Carly Spade delivers a story that is just fantastic, I was glued to this book from beginning to end.
Now I'm desperately waiting for Ares. -
Wow! I really liked Spadeโs writing in book one, but book two completely devoured me in the best ways possible! Seriously, I havenโt read such a fun and engaging read in awhile.
This is book two of contemporary myths, but honestly you can read them in whatever order. I didnโt think I would like Apollo as much as Hades because I love Hades as a god, but the book Apollo beat book Hades for me!
For starters, I felt as if there was so much more to the storyline in this book and character development. Not that the first one lacked it, but I can see improvements in book two! Apollo was cocky, but was he ignorant and toxic? Nope! And I think thatโs why I loved Carlyโs writing so much. She can create these cocky guys that are still likable and arenโt problematic.
I also loved laurel! I thought she was so fun, level headed, and I admired her devotion to her craft. I donโt know how Iโm going to wait for book 3, because Iโm slowly dying already.
I would highly recommend this book to my Greek mythology lovers! -
I loved book one and didnโt think I could love this one as much.
Carly sure showed me wrong. I devoured this one maybe even quicker than Hades. I am loving this world and cannot wait to continue. The writing hooks you right away and I love mythology so much.
I cannot wait for the next book because it happens to be my fav god. If you love mythology and you love romance, I highly recommend these books. -
Ever since I finished Hades I was really really looking forward to this book about Apollo, mostly because Apollo always seems like the kind of God I could get a crush on, if he would be portrayed well, of course. And since Spade did an amazing job with Hades I had really high hopes for Apollo. But such high hopes for a book, also means that a book can easily disappoint. So, I was a little nervous when starting this book too.
There was however absolutely no need to be nervous about reading this book at all! This book was in every way the read I wanted it to be and it managed to made me feel all kinds of happiness and excitement while reading. I was so invested in those two characters and their connection and the further I got, the more afraid I grew that something terribly bad would happen to these people and I really didn't want that!
One of the reasons it was so easy to connect to these characters is the role music, dance and arts played in this story. It's not weird in a story about Apollo, but it was so brilliantly done! I could almost see the dance moves and I could almost feel my muscles wanting to dance along. And Spade, on top of that, really managed to describe the music in this book perfectly. I could hear it and feel it and live it. And I loved how those two characters seemed to communicate through their music and dance. It worked so well and it felt so soul deep.
On top of that both characters were very relatable. I liked how Apollo was in every way Apollo and still the kind of man you can really build a relationship with and get a future with. He was in every way the kind of guy I would instantly fall in love with. But it was Laurel who really stole my heart. I loved her passion, how she felt her dancing so deeply, how she could lose herself so fully in her music and how she really let Apollo win her heart instead of just handing it to him on a silver platter.
And now I'm really excited about the next book about Ares! I can't wait to see what Spade does with his character! -
I bought and read two Carly Spade books back to back. So when I saw an ARC of her book on Booksprout, I was thrilled to review it!
While this is the sequel to Hades, it can be read and understood separately from it. However, I would suggest reading them in order. There are a lot of references to the first book the author released and it makes for some great Easter eggs. I also appreciate the Easter eggs to Greek mythology in general, some of which were so obscure I had to wait for the characters explain it. It's a tongue in cheek reimagining that knows it's silly and owns it.
The relationship between the characters was very loveable. I'm not the biggest fan of rivals or enemies to lovers tropes. But the sarcastic back and forth was amusing to read. And as it began moving on to something more, it seemed like a natural progression. I appreciated that Ace didn't suddenly turn into another character, but instead deepened the traits that were already there. Also, Laurel reminded me of the protagonist of the movie Center Stage, and I adore that movie. So she had my seal of approval from that alone.
The only struggle, if you could call it that, is that the descriptions of the dance went right over my head. I read that the author danced for years and it's evident that she knows what she's talking about. But I do not. However, it was fairly easy for me to get the gist of what was going on and it provided some excellent sexual tension between the couple.
Admittedly, the ending of the first book was much more my style. A nice bombastic fight. But I did like that this book goes back. You get to see the protagonists of each book interacting in a really sweet way. I look forward to seeing the found family of mortals-turned-deities grow.
All in all, it was another great book! Carly Spade continues to prove her books are the perfect mix of steamy and adorable. -
Quase 4 estrelas.
Apollo is a rockin' addition to the Contemporary Mythos series. Ace is a bright follow up to Hades' dark beginning. I really enjoyed the combination of rock music with ballet dance in this book. Ace brings the auditory inspiration and Laurel brings the visual. They are perfect complements to one another. The entire book is told from Laurel's perspective, but I didn't mind that at all. Usually I'm a fan of dual POV but the single POV worked well here. Also, while this is book 2 in the series I think you could read it as a standalone with no issues. I look forward to the next book in the series. It doesn't feature who I thought it would, but I'm excited nonetheless! -
The book is about a ballerina Laurel disliking the singer Ace of the band Apollo's Suns. But soon she finds out that he is actually a great guy and actually Apollo.
So I put down my review after reading this book 3 times, and not getting bored after that speaks for the book. I'm a huge fan of Carly Spades she was my favorite 2020 author and I took that with me in 2021.
Everyone who likes a good romantic spicy mythology story 'needs' to read this book (and the whole series).
I let the book speak for itself with my favorite quotes:
- โThat-โ โIsn't possible.โ He looked behind him and then back to me. โSure, it is, because I just did it.โ (Ace with Laurel)
- โI'm going to clear the arrows. I know you'll be tempted to shoot me while my back is turned, but if you could wait until I'm out of the way, that'd be swell.โ (Ace, Apollo)
- โWhat do I look like?โ โLike someone killed your dog, and you stepped in the leftover poop straight after.โ (Kate's answer)
- โHe was lucky I didn't eat him in the womb. Right, brother?โ (Diana, Artemis)
!Kinda spoiler quotes!
- Ace tapped his fingers against his cheek. โFor hundreds of thousands of years, I've spent my life inspiring others. For the first time, Artemis-โ โSomone has inspired me.โ (Ace, Apollo)
- โJust know you're already a goddess. Never forget it Sparky.โ (Ace, Apollo)
There was not one character I was able to dislike even Jamie her mean colleague, the book had easter-eggs to the following books just like Hades did but it was more. Eros Poseidons and Ares Story was mentioned. Reading Ares is always pretty weird because that legit my name but I'm excited how I will be able to read it, I'm super excited and can't wait to get my hands on more of this outstanding writing. -
After getting a glimpse of Ace in the first book, Hades, in this Contemporary Greek Mythology series, I was desperately waiting for his story.
Ace, or Apollo the Greek God, is also the lead singer of the band, Apollo Sun's. He is captivated by Laurel. When she doesn't give him the attention he wants, he takes it as a challenge to lure her, but soon he realizes that she is so much more.

Laurel Berg is a ballet dancer with so much passion in her. Music and dancing keeps her alive and her desire could be seen through the story.

I love the easy flow of the book, the writing so simple yet powerful, the characters so likable. The story was fast paced and quick. I devoured the book in two sittings.
I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers segment of the book. The cocky and arrogant man with the sweet and adorable woman was a perfect match.

Carly Spade has done it again! Carly has completely obliterated all expectations for this story and has absolutely outdone herself with this phenomenal story!
I loved the storyline that Carly so intricately weaved. Apollo, the God of Sun, inspiration and so much more. And Laurel, who has so much inspiration swirling through her itโs bursting at the seams. Everything flowed so effortlessly through this story. From the plot line, to the outstanding characters, to the beautiful magic. There is just so much to love.
The chemistry between Ace (Apollo) and Laurel. Even when they first met and pretended not to like one another, you couldnโt deny that spark that shown as bright as day between them.
โAll my life, Iโd felt incompleteโtrapped inside a fleshy shell, not knowing how to escape. It turns out, all I needed was one singularโฆspark.โ
Seeing their story unfold, was truly beautiful. Laurel is such a genuine character. She makes you see the beauty in all things. And Apollo...he may have a big ego, but he certainly has the heart and drive to back it up.
โI am the sun, but you light the way.โ
Highly recommend this read to everyone, especially lovers of Greek Mythology! -
I loved the first book in this series, and I knew I needed to read Apollo! I love how Carly adds pop culture easter eggs into her stories makes me laugh. Her writing is so easy to follow and engaging. A perfect light read especially if you are looking to get out of a slump. The sexyness of this book was also all class and my smut loving heart isnt made about it.
Can I read Ares now? -
The Spark & the Sun should be a new band name!
Carley Spade has done it again! I loved Apollo as much, if not more than Hades. The characters are so spunky and come to life on the page, never failing to crack me up. Love how she humanizes the gods and uplifts the women they fall for. And the music theme throughout this series really ties it all together. So good I finished this book in a day!
There were so many quotable moments, too. My favorite one:
"All my life, Iโd felt incompleteโtrapped inside a fleshy shell, not knowing how to escape. It turns out, all I needed was one singularโฆspark."โApollo
I'm giving this book 5 glowing suns! โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ
