My son and I loved reading about the special place where we live. It's exciting to read about home - a reminder of how important it is for children to see themselves in literature. The photography was fantastic and we learned a lot about the amazing ecosystem that we live in. I hope the people who produced this book will make editions for pre-literate and early readers, making it more accessible to children. My son often fell asleep while I was reading. It's a LOT of information. But he insisted on reading every page and we had to renew it and keep it an extra two weeks.

Extremely informative book that details all aspects of the Salish Sea- from geography to history to detailing the different kinds of animals and plants that live in the waters. You could use this book to tie into so many different subjects, even the migration chapter reflects upon geology and economics and food! The final chapter full of ways that we have harmed the Salish Sea ends of a hopeful note to engage children to take action- that no step is too small to make an impact- and offer suggestions that are well within a kids ability.

Even as an adult who is well informed on the Salish Sea (as a whale watcher whose lived here for decades), there were things within this book that I learned.
