This book was so boring I had trouble finishing it. There was no plot! Nothing happens until half way through the book and then its a minor incident. The dialogue was insipid and the companion was a sycophant and she is the Heroine. The Hero is as bland and wimpy as you could be. I hope you have gathered I didn't like this book. At the 85% mark all is tied up and throw in a few unbelievable plot devices and the book is complete.

DISAPPOINTING!! Vivien Crawford was left on the doorsteps of Dewdale manor as an infant. She had been stolen for her parents. Raised as the Companion to Lady Isadora.

Okay lets just get to it!! There are several mentions of Gerard the Duke of Hartwick giving up of the Title of Duke!! Its cannot be done for any title. That Cannot be done!! It was impossible! The only way to get a title is to be born to it or the next in the blood line. The only way to lose it was treason or to die and then it is passed on. Its called primogenitor. Any author should know that. The other problem I had with the story was its slow and boring. No One Bit of Romance!! Nothing really happens until the very end. I had to push to finish. You know immediately who the villains are and you know who Vivien's parents are once they are mentioned in the story.

I really wanted to like this story!! Its getting harder and harder to find true Historical Romance authors who know what they are writing about

This was a long, but fast paced historical romance, with several side plots.

BTW, as a lifelong horse owner🐎 and breeder, horses are not born white except in very very rare circumstances, and the problem is genetically fatal.

White was unknown in the Arabian🐎 breed until very recently. White Arabs🐎 are foals born a standard breed color, such as black, bay, or chestnut, , with the graying gene present. They eventually go completely gray and may appear white as they get older. A fairly recent spontaneous DNA mutation for complete body white has been traced to one stallion, born in 1995.

I must admit that I have enjoyed all of Ms.Linfield's books but not quite as much as I have enjoyed this one. Hence, a review, which I never did on any of many I've read... a well deserved 5-star review. What I really enjoy about Ms.Linfield's books is that she always has woven different angles in one story plot and they all come together in the end leaving me satisfied. Having said that, I would very much like to see more romance, more physical contact, a somewhat hot interlude or trysts between the main characters and not just a peck on the cheeks or a quick touching of lips at almost at the end like in this one. I'm not suggesting a really sizzling hot scenes, after all, this is a historical romance, but a little more heat wouldn't hurt. I'm sure a lot more of Ms.Linfield's loyal fans (like me) would be delighted. Despite all that, I truly enjoyed reading this book. Well done! ❤

    Tripe

I don't even know where to start with this mess. I can't believe I read it to the end. The characters were among the worst I've ever seen. The h, Vivienne, was a sycophant without reward for her boot licking. Seriously, if 'her lady' stepped in mud , Vivienne would have praised her for being the most kind and gracious lady to ever step in mud before.
The H, Gerard, was a wimp. He should of spoke up from the start.
The idea that we were supposed to buy a romance between the two is laughable.

When Vivien Crawford was a baby she had been left on the steps of Dewdale Manor.  She became Lady Isadora’s companion.  The cook raised Vivien just as she would raise her own daughter.   Gerard, the Duke of Heartwick's mother wants him to marry Lady Isadora.    She invites Isadora to their home.  Vivien goes with her.  Gerard find he is more interested in Vivien.  Do they even have a chance?  After all he is a Duke and she is a companion.  There is betrayal, suspense, drama, intrigue, danger, turmoil, secrets, intrigue, twists and turns.  Someone is making attempts on Gerard's life.  Who and why?
Characters are fleshed out, plot is well constructed and story is very well written.  I could visualize the scenes.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review.  My opinion is entirely my own.

This was a book with some suspense, danger, mystery and love with plenty of twists and turns. For me the story was well written with some really interesting characters. Vivien Crawford was left on the door step of Dewdale Manor she is now Lady Isadora's companion, being a companion she is to travel with her lady to The Hartwick estate to meet her future husband. Gerard Kahler, the Duke of Hartwick is a bit up set with his stepmother for inviting the lovely Lady but know she only wants the best for him. This is the start of an exciting story. I recommend this story if you love to read about Dukes and the Duchesses who captures their hearts.

    Nice love story

I enjoyed this book but was disappointed there were no children in end. I know people didn't always have children but we wouldn't be here if they didn't.

    Another Wonderful Love Story

Vivien and Gerard's story is an exciting and interesting story of love and danger. I couldn't stop to finish this story to see who the bad guys were.

While I have enjoyed many writings by Emma Linfield, I found this one to be too long, too tedious and so full of information that may not have needed mentioning. In my opinion, the focus was placed longer on a particular subject that, I found, detracted from the rest of the story. This led to the disheartening case of the main points being drawn out more than necessary. There were many times I nearly quit reading, because I frequently felt as though I were mired in a thick, heavy bog. However, I AM glad that I did manage to, eventually, get to the last chapter and learn the outcome.
