Many people see and hear the world exactly how it appears. All they see is the outside. I envy them. Their world is quiet compared to mine. It’s small and manageable, clear and simple. But I will never see the world that way. I’m of the Lantern code, which means I’m one of the people with light in my hands. That “light” is a sense, like hearing or seeing is to most people. It’s a sense I wish I could get rid of. In fact, I’d swap my code for anything if it was possible. People believe that once you are born with a specific code, it determines the course of your life forever. But all I have ever wanted is to take my place beside the other fielders and fight with them. I am surrounded by Strongbearers and Swiftfoots, those who are born with codes of uncommon strength or incredible agility and speed. Fireholders, Wiseones; they all seem better suited for battle than I am. For some people, their code is their strength. But for me, it’s my stubborn nature that has forged my way.

Well crafted world, just the right amount of treachery and evil, appealing characters, but where is the next book. I cannot find any mention or hint of the sequel anywhere online.
