KYAAAAAAAA~ Cecil is so hot when she acts as her 'ideal man', so fucking pretty the art I cannot I love the eyes, Gil is lowkey kinda incest lmao and the prince is unexpectedly cute, especially when he blushes skjksjdjskj I love Cecil/cecilia, she's so cute I just want to hug and squish her cheeks <3
    but anyways- CECIL-SAMA🏃‍♀️ 😭💗

3.5 rounded down for art that doesn't quite add enough to the experience. Still a lot of fun, though, with some good, entertaining twists on the genre.

The evil villainess Cecilia Sylvie turns out to be a reincarnated Japanese woman who loved her otome games, including the one she now finds herself in. With all routes leading to doom, or something, she gets the notion that posing as a guy will solve her problems. Or just compound them.

Japan’s publishing industry seems to believe that its readers can’t get enough of a good thing, so once one thing lands you see many, many variations thereof. To say that this owes a debt to My Next Life As A Villainess is like saying cheese owes a debt to milk.

However, this does some things rather better than the original and justifies its existence rather elegantly, which is about the only time I’ll be using elegant to describe much of this enjoyable debacle.

Cecilia’s rather boneheaded decision that being a guy will fix her dilemma leads to her winding up as quite a player with the ladies, but her more gentle nature resulting from her reincarnation leads to her being pretty popular with the guys as well, so this turns into a BL farce in addition to everything else.

The story wisely doles its characters out very slowly, even if they are all the usual archetypes. Gilbert, the adopted brother who knows Cecilia’s secret and also nurses a major sister complex is wonderfully snarky in particular.

Cecilia, for her part, recognizes none of the chaos she’s causing and her prior actions have lead Oscar, the prince who should hate her guts, to have a major crush on this girl he hasn’t seen in years. This turns out to be the real meat of this volume.

Beyond Gilbert and Oscar going at it like a married couple (not lost on Cecilia), which is delicious, Oscar is finding himself unconscionably attracted to another guy (the gay panic is pretty mild and Oscar doesn’t protest TOO much). It’s almost a guarantee that the heroine is going to end up attracted to Cecilia’s male alter ego at this point as well.

There’s an interesting little tidbit that implies there’s more than one person reincarnated into this realm that should be interesting, but the downside is that this is all very, very familiar. Even down to the obvious confessions that just bounce off thick skulls like so many raindrops.

If you don’t want more of this goofery, honestly, you’re not getting anything new out of this. Minus the amusing cross-dressing angle, this is all covered in the My Life… series and it copies it right down to the woefully oblivious heroine.

Still, the little tweaks make it a good story, even as a copy of something else. Additionally, the art absolutely cracks it and makes this a visual treat even as it’s covering some very well-trodden ground. Cecilia is equal parts adorable and food monster.

3.5 stars - a very enjoyable read and it’ll get another volume out of me for sure, even if this does feel like one of those ‘misunderstandings unto perpetuity’ stories that never resolves itself. Genuinely can’t round it up based on how much it’s bringing in from elsewhere though.

    Crossdressing female lead?

I'm so in baby. I hope Oscar is the male lead because he is so damn cute with the FL and I so fucking ship them so hard (っ.❛ ᴗ ❛.)っ

    Notes:
-This reminds me of Ouran High School Host Club.
-Just cut your hair, MC; then, you wouldn't worry about the wig just your chest band.
-I know it's a trope but I'm getting sick of MCs who don't have critical thinking.
    -I ship her with Gil.
-This is one of those stories where I am absolutely rooting for the second LI. Or is Gil really the lead?

I theorize that Lean might be Cecilia/Hiyono’s BL loving friend from her past life, Ichika. There are multiple clues pointing to it, including the dropped BL fanfic page, her disinterest in boys being invested in her specifically (she doesn’t seem to be seducing anyone at all), and how hot and bothered she was when she found Gilbert and an unknown pretty boy (Cecil) together in the greenhouse. Something is definitely super off about Lean— I wonder… Wouldn’t it be neat for friends who both died to both be reborn into the same game? And to be playing opposite roles too. Wowie.

Furthermore, considering that Cecilia/Hiyono seems to have memories of her past life but no memories of her death (evident in how when mentioning her death, she talks as if she surmised she must’ve died, as if it were the most likely scenario but not undeniable reality), it might have been a tragic accident. Perhaps an accident both girls got caught up in— which, if they died at the same time or under such similar circumstances together, that may also explain how they could have both ended up in the same game together.

Edit to the above— I should have just finished the volume before writing all of that. I was correct though in all of it. Cecilia doesn’t remember her death though she’s dreamed of it many times. That being said, she harbors the same feelings, she simply can’t remember how the event played out. But yes… it seems they pledged to be friends forever, and then tragically died in a fire together. This all but confirms that Lean is Ichika. She’s there with Hiyono in the game they shared interest in (and were about to see the anime movie adaptation of on the way to their deaths). Or did watch all or part of the movie. I wonder when and how the fire started… and all the chaos that must’ve ensued with it. Why were there so few people left in the theater? Just those two and the woman they tried (and likely failed) to save.

    Onto another subject…
The idea that Gilbert kicked Cecilia out of his bed every time she crawled into it with the claim that it was because she snores… I can just imagine him getting too flustered to handle her, the girl he’s in love with in the same bed as him, and he kicks her out using that as an excuse. After all… Oscar observed that she doesn’t snore… among other observations~. On that subject, we haven’t seen all the boys yet, but it is ever quite so obvious that Gil is in love with Cecilia and as is Oscar. I’m so especially fond to see how different the personalities are of these two men as well as their affections for Cecilia. We started off and established Gil’s love first, then it felt like we got a lot of attention for Oscar. He’s so cute— it’s not that he loves a memory of Cecilia— he genuinely loves Cecilia. This much is evident seeing as how he’s fallen in love with her all over again, almost immediately, upon getting to know Cecil (who is indeed Cecilia). It’s truly so cute and I think that this might actually be a story where everyone can get a happy ending somehow. That being said… who is killer? Are they still a killer in this iteration? And is the stalker actually BL-crazed Lean? And is Lean using this trip as a means to push Cecil with other pretty boys just as Cecil is using it as a means to ensure Lean and Jade bond? We’ll find out, I’m sure…

I've always enjoyed reincarnated manga books and this one was no different!

The main heroine, Cecilia Sylvie, is witty and kind and I enjoyed her headspace as she went from figuring out that she was reincarnated into a dating sim world as a villain. I loved the fact that Cecilia decided she would cross-dress as a "boy" during her teen school days to not create chaos with the "love interest" of the novel so she could live peacefully. It was an interesting and funny take on the "Reincarnated" trope!

There are chaotic moments, there are comedic moments, and there are lovely moments! But overall, I enjoyed this series and am so excited for what Cecilia's future holds for her! This book gives a little bit of an "Ouran HighSchool Host Club" manga vibe (mainly from the cross dressing) and I love it...especially since that is one of my all-time favorite series!

I currently have 4 out of the 5 books in the series so far and I can't wait to see how this story will end!

If you enjoy manga and like the "reincarnated" trope then I highly reccomend you check this book out, it's super cute and a quick read!

This is a very fun and comedic type of reincarnation story! The main protagonist is a girl who has reincarnated into the villainess of her favorite otome game. She gets to start over both her and the Villainess's life and tries to live a better life than either of them lead before. The villainess, Cecilia, was basically a spoiled brat in her first round of life. Her attitude and her bad behavior are what lead her to her death routes in the original game. Obviously, since she doesn't want to go through dying all over again, she hatches a plan to avoid her death route and to live a carefree life! By...dressing as a boy. This plan is very goofy, but it's honestly enjoyable. It reminds me partially of both Ouran High School Host Club and She's the Man. The characters themselves are interesting, and I do find it funny when they don't match Cecilia's expectations of behavior. The whole thing is very lighthearted and will obviously have shenanigans galore. I'm interested in reading the next volumes!

This was cute, and the plot had more buildup than I expected. I was surprised Cecilia is pretending to be a knight now! Is no one surprised that there’s a missing holy maiden candidate? Anyway, I love Gilbert, Cecilia’s adopted brother, but I prefer their sibling dynamic so I hope he only has a sister complex and nothing more. I think I ship Cecilia with Oscar. Their little childhood encounter was so cute and it must be fate if he’s falling for Cecilia even in her disguise. Some may argue he’s being unfaithful, but I think it’s only because it’s actually Cecilia that he’s falling for her again. Plus, he hasn’t seen the real Cecilia in 12 years. I’ll cut him some slack.

Another good manga with a villainess trope. This one is a little different considering the cross-dressing element so it’s very interesting. Cecilia is very charming as Cecil, and I’m not surprised she managed to seduce Oscar’s attention even as a “guy”. I’m looking forward to seeing what goes down in the next volume!

While this wasn't bad, this was easily the weakest villainess manga I've read so far. Maybe its because I've read too many of them and am starting to pick up on the similarities (villainess isn't really evil, wants to spare her fate, has a rival, has multiple love interests but is oblivious to them, etc) and it just didn't grip me. Maybe its because it doesn't do anything to really differentiate itself from others aside from the cross-dressing thing, maybe I just didn't vibe with the characters, I can't be sure. All I know is despite loving the "villainess" genre, this is easily the weakest entry I've read so far.

That being said, I'm still willing to at least read the next volume, so there's definitely something there. But I was pretty dissatisfied with this first volume.

  • Cassie Renais

This series cracked me up. The art is absolutely fantastic. It's got some of my favourite tropes and plays into all the most ridiculous aspects of them (I've just finished Vol. 5, so forgive any spoilers). The main character, Cecilia, is adorably cheerful, oblivious, tenacious etc. in the position of villainess-fated-to-die-but-resisting anyway. Naturally, she's changed the story because she remembers things from her previous life before reincarnating into the otome game. But, unlike the usual trope, she doesn't try to keep it a complete secret and regularly tells people and goes on to meet other people who have also transmigrated into the game/story as they work to thwart the game's design for Cecilia. Overall, a really funny, refreshing take on the subgenre.

  • Lottie

So I am definitely biased as my favourite genre is romcom where the girl is pretending to be a boy, but I really loved this! It has a super charming artstyle and the perfect level of silliness. The romance so far is very endearing and plays around with the boy not knowing her gender in cute ways, great for people who enjoy a mix of BL and shojo. I recommend it if you want a light and fluffy read.

  • Mehsi

This was oodles of fun. What if you want to avoid your death flags? Well, dress up as a boy of course! This one made me laugh so much. I do hope that Oscar and Cecilia will get together because it is clear that Oscar is very much into Cecilia (though also getting confused with his feelings on Cecil, oh my). Fun art! And I love that there are some darker bits.

  • Cami

OK I really like this manga it was fun it was catchy I can’t wait for number two I’m gonna go get that tomorrow but this had me on my toes I was like oh my god so cute this is a very fast fun read if you want something that’s a little bit different but a little bit crazy at the same time

  • Kaitlynne

This was actually so good. It was like Hana Kimi but with an isekai-d normie turned video game villainess. And it was also super funny. I love the relationship between Cecilia and Gil, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

    3.5。

    4.5 ⭐️

Was recommended this, and gotta say it was hilarious and I love the art style.

The last chapter with the scary figure gave me the creeps, and I want to know who it is…

    Definitely gonna continue this series

Absolutely LOVED this book and I'm excited to see where it goes. It gives off major twelfth nigh vibes which is my favorite William Shakespeare play! Now oh my way to read the light novel!

I’m such a trope queen. This just really makes my heart smile. Halfway through I was opening up google to see where I could get the next book in the series. So good and a very quick read!!

DNF’d - think I lost brain cells trying to keep up with the absolute chaos that was this manga.
