The Marked Orphan Bride and a Baby for the Brave Sheriff (Love Against the Odds Book 1) Reviews
-
This is the first book in the Love Against the Odds Series and is a great start to the series. I found Carla and Bud's story heartwarming. It's full of emotion, danger, some drama and love. The story began with Carla and her friend Sally who she befriended at the orphanage. Sally was raped by one of the orphanage benefactors and died in child birth. Before she died she made Carla promise to protect her baby. Not wanting to be a spoiler, I won't give away any more of the story but know that Carla is hard to stay under the radar because of a big birthmark on her face. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review.

Ridiculous… I just couldn’t believe the audacity of this author
In the middle of the night Carla escaped from the only orphanage and home she’s ever known. She has to in order to save her best friend Sally who at 15 died in childbirth and begged Carla to save a newborn baby from certain death. The newborn baby Marsha is the only evidence that the sponsor of the orphanage Dalton is the babies father and it didn’t happen from consent and Sally is not his only victim. So Carla in the middle of the night with Baby Marsha escape to the next town Carrot prairie. The first person to meet by the grace of God is Greta a loving woman in her 50s who runs a boarding house and not only has an extra room, but needs a young girl to wash clothes and clean up. Call is overjoyed she finally knows a kind soul in the world.. So she excepts the job in the room and feeling safe she starts running errands for Miss Greta and on one of our errands while staring up at the sun and man happens to run right into her.… Here enters bud Jeffries the sheriff of carrot prairie. Of course he is good looking has a heart of gold and a single and a bow and glimpsing Carla despite the big red stain running from her cheek to her neck on the whole right side of her face, he has never seen a more fetching woman.… No had this girl been 1819 I would’ve thought oh that’s sweet the sheriff and Carla are going to fall in love, but the fact that she is only 16 years old makes this ridiculous. Had he been an unattractive man who Carla wasn’t attracted to who would be considered a creepy pedophile, but because he is good looking and Carla who really is too young to be making such life decisions is attracted to him it’s all A-OK. He and Greta talk about how Carla has a certain look to her eyes that says she is more mature than her years… That is called 1000 yard stare lots of victims get it. I don’t like how they tried to pay us off because she had been abused and seen abuse in her young life that made her older than her counterparts and so therefore it is OK to marry the 30-year-old sheriff. All that makes her it’s a 16-year-old girl who saw too much in her young life. So let’s not take her and give her a little bit of childhood she has left oh no let’s take her and make her an immediate grown-up out of the loving arms of Miss Greta and into the role of life and mother with Sheriff Bud. I thought him being the adult, he would’ve said I am going to step aside and let Carla grow up a little bit and now the love of a mother with Miss Greta, but no he said I’m in love with 16-year-old Carla I want that and so here I go Bing Bam boom just like a typical man. Had this been a factual story I couldn’t argue with the details, but because they were made up by the author I find this book ridiculous and out of the box. Especially since he was especially because Dalton the pedophile is exactly who he was protecting little Martha and Carla from. It was just ridiculous. -
Family and friends are not always blood related or childhood developed.
Friends are so special when life happens around you, and out of your control. Sally entrusted her babe to her best friend, in hope to keep the babe alive. She ran into the night to save the babe just the next town with plans to move on. Playing cat and mouse to stay out of the sheriff eye. The babe's father had to much to lose, if the babe became known. The story is well written and seems like a good chess game. Hinted child abuse and how to correct it from happenings again. -

Have mixed emotions
While the storyline line was interesting, it left me feeling unfinished. I'm not sure why there wasn't any justice served for Sally. In my opinoin that man should have been called out and casted out. -
