Olympic downhill skier, Harper Young, knows what it’s like to look danger in the face. After all, she does it every time she races down a ski slope. She’s fine with that danger and even excels under the pressure, winning Olympic gold. And as a governor’s daughter, she’s familiar with receiving threats from the general public. But when a stalker turns his sights on Harper, she possesses zero skills to protect herself.
But she has no idea what lurks in the shadows.
Former Navy SEAL and ATF Agent, Aiden Byrd of Nighthawk Security is well versed in protection skills and knows the dangers she faces. Problem is, there’s an instant attraction between Aiden and Harper, and Aiden has to fight hard to remain professional. As the stalker grows bolder and tries to end Harper’s life, Aiden’s only hope in keeping her safe is to deny his feelings. Something that borders on impossible.

'Aiden dropped his finger to the trigger.'
Susan Sleeman, my go-to author for inspirational romantic suspense, has started a great new series with Night Fall. Nighthawk Security promises to be a super suspenseful series. Populated by the five Byrd brothers,, all former military or law enforcement, they have now formed a security investigative agency.
Sleeman is great at what she does and totally holds your interest all the way through, with surprises that will keep you guessing till the very end. Since Nighthawk Security is housed in the same building as the Veritas Agency, we get to see old friends from the previous two series, too! I loved seeing those folks again and also some from Blackwell Tactical. I am looking forward to the rest in this series. Recommended.
*My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. I received no compensation and the opinions in this review are entirely my own. -
3.5 stars!
Characters: Both Aiden and Harper were well-developed characters. Harper's job as a professional skier added a unique element to the story, as did Aiden's relationship with his brothers. Siblings in books are always fun. I found Aiden to be over-romanticized, but I know lots of readers will enjoy that aspect of him.
Language: Clean.
Moral: Harper came to the realization she wasn't making God a priority in her life.
Plot: The threat of Harper's stalker, some action, and Aiden and Harper's developing relationship kept the plot moving. This was a more laid-back suspense novel, and I'd have liked to see a little more action.
Random comments: Harper's stalker was a major creep, and he sent her explicit notes and items (not discussed in detail at all).
Romance: Clean. Just kissing. For about the first half of the book, the romance seemed to be based mostly on physical attraction. That's definitely a part of romance, but I would've liked to see it based on something more a little sooner. And how this attraction was described was really strange to me. It was almost talked about like a disease the main characters caught and didn't want.
Writing: Susan Sleeman's writing was fast paced and worked great for this book.
Overall: Night Fall was an entertaining read, and I'd recommend it to readers of Christian fiction and romantic suspense. -
“She was dying, and it was his fault.”
Tight writing, fabulous pacing, and well-developed characters, all make Night Fall an intriguing romantic suspense. Harper Young faces life head on but when it comes to a stalker, she’s going to depend on Aiden Byrd and Nighthawk Security to keep her safe. I was on pins and needles several times while reading this book. Sleeman is a pro at weaving realistic suspense and the romance thread is just as heart thumping. I also appreciated a good level of wit in many scenes.
“He skipped the elevator and took the stairwell, arriving on the ground floor breathing a bit harder than normal. Wouldn’t do to arrive panting. She could take it the wrong way.”
I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. I recommend Night Fall to fans of contemporary romantic suspense containing solid faith elements.
I received an electronic copy of the book from the author. No review was required. No compensation received. -
“She was dying, and it was his fault.”
With a first sentence like this, this story grabbed me from the start. 10 out of 10 for the author on the early twist. This was an exciting ride and I just adored the Byrd brothers who started their own protection agency. I just have a soft spot for a family series and finding a group of brothers a favourite due to their banter and need to be a hero mindset.
Granted, all five brothers who owned the agency had law enforcement experience, and two of the brothers had also served in special ops in the military.
I enjoyed the mystery of finding Harper's stalker, though some of the things he send I would say is more of an adult nature and thus probably more applicable to the mature reader. I also enjoyed the seriousness of the protection detail and the way it was described helped me "see" everything. The author also threw in a few twists and turns which kept me turning pages. I loved meeting all the characters in the Cold Harbor and Truth Seekers series which was thrown in this story and now want to read those series as well.
I also enjoyed Harper's journey back to God and how Aiden nudged her in the right direction.
“Because I know you, and I know God. You both have the same goals. You won’t give up until you find Him again, and He won’t give up on you either. He’ll keep after you until He gets your attention.”
Aiden was a typical oldest brother - he took all the responsibility on him and had quite a stubborn streak. I enjoyed his brothers' teasing and how they pushed him to stop being cautious, thinking he knows best, and take a change.
I will definitely continue this series. The next book releases in Dec with the other 4 books to be released in 2021.
*I won a copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are my own.* -
I really liked this story so I'm not sure why it took me so long to get through it!
Night Fall is about the brothers of Sierra who works at Veritas Center (from another series by this author). The brothers are former military and law enforcement but want to work together as a protection team. Aiden, after giving a kidney to one of his family members, had to give up his career as a SEAL, but it turns out going private isn't all that safe either!
Their first job is to protect the Governor's daughter who is a champion downhill skier - she has a stalker (or two) and he has upped his threat level on her when he begins to send her tokens from her childhood. Aiden and Harper fight their attraction for different reasons, but in the end - can they really stay apart?
This is a clean read. -
Aiden Byrd and his brothers are getting their business, Nighthawk Security, up and running. Olympic skiier Harper Young will be their first client. Harper has attracted a stalker that seems to be escalating so she needs around the clock protection. Neither Aiden or Harper have time for a relationship outside of their professions. Harper is determined to win her next medal and Aiden is determined to get their business off the ground. But and instant attraction to each other could be the downfall of both of their plans.
Ok, totally a fan of the Byrd brothers! I'm so excited for this new series! This first one was exciting and totally left me wanting more! I love the brothers loyalty to each other, their humor, their care for their client and of course they are all pretty easy on the eyes apparently. There are several twists and turns in the story that leave the reader surprised with heart racing and the anxiety level high. One thing I always appreciate in this author's writing are the spiritual elements of the story. NIGHT FALL did not disappoint in that area, both characters had hard spiritual lessons to learn throughout the story. A fantastic beginning to a new series and highly recommended! -
Night Fall is a fantastic beginning to a new series. I enjoyed the characters and the plot kept me turning the pages. Recommended. I received an ARC of this book.

This is going to be another outstanding series!
Loved how edgy the characters are, they're just starting out in the security business and it shows.
Great storyline and had some unexpected twists in it, really enjoyed it! -
WHOA! This story is fantastic!!! I’ve never read a novel by Susan Sleeman before; that is changing immediately. I enjoyed so much about Night Fall I don’t adequately know where to begin. First, the suspense is intense. I think around the 50-60% mark I looked at my husband and said, “I have no idea who the bad guy is!” I hate suspense/mystery novels that are easy to figure out. That is not the case with Night Fall. I was edge-of-my-seat the entire time and genuinely kept guessing right up to near the end. Second, the cast of characters is really awesome. I love each Byrd brother and cannot wait to read their subsequent storylines as they release. The best part of this family is how loyal they are to one another. Some of us in real life could only be so lucky to have a family like the Byrd’s. Finally, I really loved the chemistry between Aiden and Harper. It’s electric the entire time, and I found that this crazy electrical force between them really added to the intensity of the novel. I’ve seen some reviewers say they don’t like that it is instantaneous attraction, but I never have issue with that. When you know, you know. Some people are just magnetically drawn to one another and that is the case between Aiden and Harper. Personally, I feel Sleeman did an excellent job pacing their romance.
Of the many topics discussed in this awesome story what stood out to me the most is Aiden’s restraint. My nickname from my family and friends is the “Italian Tornado.” I am a passionate woman. Sometimes that passion is outstanding. It’s what makes me (hopefully) a good teacher, a good mom and wife, and a good follower of Jesus Christ. However, my passion can often get the better of me. I truly could never be in law enforcement because I would be the “shoot first, ask questions later” kind of cop. I don’t mean to be like this, and I am totally working on it every day, but that is who I am. It’s kind of like my brain short circuits a bit and my actions take over. Aiden’s job is insanely intense and his focus is noticeably superior. What I like about him the most is that he stops and considers outcomes BEFORE he reacts. There’s this one moment in the story where Harper’s life is on the line (It’s on the line the entire time so I don’t consider this a spoiler. LOL!). He mentions to himself how he just wants to storm the front and get her to safety BUT he doesn’t do that. Instead, he stops, weighs the outcomes of all his options, forms a workable plan, and then kicks butt. The writing in this novel is so good I could feel his restraint and I thought to myself, “Man, I need to be more like Aiden. Life would work out so much better if I followed his tactics.” How cool is that?! I learned emotional and mental control strategies from a fictional character. LOL! But seriously, it’s a really exciting moment in the plot, and also an excellent teachable moment for the reader.
If you can’t tell by now, I HIGHLY recommend Night Fall. This book is so much fun, it’s so engaging, and it’s the best kind of literary escape. If you are a fan of well-written Christian Suspense and Romance stories then Night Fall is definitely the book for you!
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on November 4, 2020, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. -
NO STRANGER TO DANGER!
There are certain authors that I know will guarantee a reader a First Rate Romantic Suspense Novel and Susan Sleeman’s name will ALWAYS be in the Top Tier of that List! Her new series is called Nighthawk Security and if Book 1 NIGHT FALL is any indication, it is going to be even more spectacular than any of her other series! The thing I am most impressed with is how Sleeman has folded this Series’ characters right in with the characters from her Cold Harbor and Truth Seekers Series! This Series stars the Byrd Brothers who are Sierra’s (the Veritas Center’s Trace Evidence Expert) five brothers. They all come from backgrounds in law enforcement and/or military service. Aiden is the oldest and this is his story.
Harper Young is no stranger to danger. She is an Olympic Gold Medalist in Downhill Skiing, a sport that is definitely NOT for the faint of heart! Harper is also the daughter of a no-nonsense Governor. Only in her case the Governor is her Mother and her Dad is staying at home to run the Family Farm. The Governor is running for re-election and has received some threats. Soon after, Harper receives threats of her own. Each decides to hire their own set of protection services.
Aiden and his brothers are just beginning Nighthawk Security and taking Harper’s job is a monumental task that can put their business on the map. However, there might be a slight problem. The minute Aiden and Harper meet and shake hands, there is an immediate shockwave between the two of them. Aiden knows he must keep things professional but that may be the toughest thing the former Navy Seal and ex-ATF Agent has ever faced down! As Harper’s threat level escalates and they start uncovering the real danger, all the brothers prove their worth by using their individual strengths. Also, Nighthawk must rely heavily on the skills and resources of the talented staff at the Veritas Center to work this case.
Author Susan Sleeman is a master at drawing a reader into a story, keeping their rapt attention, making them wonder “whodunnit,” building a possibility for romance, surprise endings and seeing where a romance might lead. You can get all that and more when you read any of her novels and NIGHT FALL is an EXCELLENT example!
I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. -
Well-developed and intriguing “Night Fall” the first book in the “Nighthawk Security” series opens when Harper Young an Olympic downhill skier hires the Byrd brothers’ fledgling agency to protect her from a stalker who's growing bolder in his harassment of her. Doubly serious as her mother who’s running for re-election as governor is also receiving threatening letters, she depends on the brothers never expecting to have sparks ignite whenever she and Aiden, the managing partner of the team are close.
Skillfully the author weaves five brothers with military and law enforcement backgrounds into a romantic mystery as Harper Young a talented skier devoted to pursuing a world record on the slopes hires the team to protect her against a stalker who's growing bolder and more personal in his letters and gifts to her. Intensity and suspense percolate as Aiden begins to hone in on three suspects, two of which are old boyfriends she hasn’t seen in years. Tension mounts with an explosive threat and a murder as the plot begins to twist and turn with every new clue uncovered.
Yet amid the danger love blossoms between Harper and Aiden as each one tries to ignore their attraction that’s deepening into love. With her focused on her career and not about to retire soon, and Aiden afraid, having one kidney while working in a deadly business the reader is drawn into their sexual frustration and need to stay away from each other.
Among the characters breathing life into the plot are ex-Seal and ATF Agent Aiden Byrd who’s the decision maker and leader of the team. He’s stubborn, driven, decisive and tough but caring and loving in his need to protect the skier. Harper Young the successful American Alpine Skier is focused, intense and determined, but slowly falls under the spell of attractive, protective Aiden. With compelling characters and a fascinating plot all too soon “Night Fall” flows to a surprising climax that begs for another book in the series.
Filled with love and faith, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Harper, Aiden and his NightHawk Security team and look forward to more romantic suspense novels in this series. -
My review today is on the Romantic Suspense, Night Fall: Nighthawk Security. This is book one in the new series Nighthawk Security. I'm always excited when I receive one of Susan's books especially when it's the start of a new series. I don't know where she comes up with all her ideas. I really liked this one as we revisit the people of the last two series so it's kind of a continuation of the others but with new characters added. This story is well written, action packed, and fast moving. Faith is woven into the story like a fine tapestry. I know you will love this one.
Aiden Byrd and his brothers were all former military, feds, or police; they started the Nighthawk Security agency when Aiden donated his kidney to his father. This would be safer for him. Their offices and their homes are in the Veritas Center where their only sister is one of the partners. Aiden is the leader of the team and the oldest brother. They take on a case to protect an Olympic Skier. She is being harassed by a stalker. Aiden is instantly attracted to the beautiful woman but he knows she fired the last few teams because they made passes at her. Can he keep her safe, find the stalker, and keep his heart whole?
Harper Young is dealing with a stalker. she has had problems with the teams they had hired. She wanted to be protected not have to deflect advances. She could see interest in Aiden's eyes but as her mother pointed out she was giving off vibes too. She went ahead and hired the team. They are all business and nothing like the other teams. They both agree to the attraction but also agree to ignore it. Was that possible? Could Aiden keep her safe and find the stalker? Can she trust this gorgeous man?
A trying journey with a stalker slowly escalating around every turn. All the time they were fighting their relationship that seemed to have a mind of it's own. God has a plan for these two; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn your life around even in the midst of a pandemic. -
So often we think we can do it all, be all, and everything will be fine. However, that may not be the best for everyone.
This is a lesson Aiden Bryd has to learn as he tries to lead his brothers and start this new business. Harper Young only wants to be safe and to be the top female skier in the country, but right now, her life is threatened. Can these two find the answers to both their problems before it’s too late?
Wow! Another fantastic start to a new series by Susan Sleeman!
Meet the Nighthawk Security team. A family of brothers who are ready to make the city and people of Portland safe. This is a sort of branch-off from Susan Sleeman’s Truth Seeker’s series because these are the brothers of Sierra Bryd from the book Dead End. I enjoyed getting to know the brothers of the Byrd family and I can’t wait to see them all in the other books.
In this story we find drama, action, suspense, lots of action . . . oh, did I just say that?!
This book not only has great action and suspense, but there was a bit of romance . . . well, maybe a little more than a bit! These characters also learned that it’s okay to rely on others and God because He’s there with us through it all.
The way Susan Sleeman’s written this book will keep you on the edge of your chair. I was captivated from the very first page until the end and I thought I knew who the bad guy really was, but NO, I was wrong. Boy, can this author twist things around so you really must finish the story just to breathe!
I am loving reading Susan Sleeman's books!
If you love action, suspense, and intrigue, then I highly recommend you pick this book and start reading this new series! However, I have to warn you, once you start reading, you’ll want to go back and read all this author’s other books!
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own. -
It’s here! Susan Sleeman has an new series: Nighthawk Security. It follows the Byrd brothers, who we first met in Dead End, one of my favorite books from the previous Truth Seekers series. Ever since that book, I have been hoping we’d see more of them and not only did we, but the five brothers (and their sister’s sister-in-law) now have their own series!
Nighthawk Security begins with Aiden’s story in Night Fall. The brothers are hired as bodyguards for Olympic Skier and governor’s daughter, Harper Young. She has a stalker and his actions are escalating. So far, she’s fired the last two security firms because the employees hit on her. Aiden is determined to maintain his professionalism, even if he feels the sparks between them. Sparks he wouldn’t, couldn’t, and shouldn’t act on. Except, Harper feels them, too.
Night Fall is another winner from Susan Sleeman. Aiden is great, but the Byrd brothers as a whole steal the show. Harper finds herself wanting to be a part of the family and I can see why. It seems like such a fun, big family. And, when characters are so lovable, it’s easy to enjoy the story. The plot keeps twisting and turning, too, and the ending – without giving anything away – was one that had me holding my breath to see what happened.
One specific detail I liked most about Night Fall is how easily and specifically Susan Sleeman shows what it is like to be on a security detail. This is a writing skill she has exhibited in all of her books, most notably being Dead End, and I loved seeing it on display in Night Fall. It’s one of the reasons she has become one of my favorite authors.
I can’t wait to see the Byrd brothers back in action next month when Brendan gets his time to shine in Night Vision! Stay tuned for my review!

This is book one in the Nighthawk Security series. What a great place to start. I love the Byrd family and can not wait to read more from them. I love the writing style of Susan Sleeman. Her books are packed full of mystery, suspense, family, fun, a touch of romance and military, FBI, Police type books. I love how most her books are stand alone, yet each series is also building in relationships and that some books lead to more meaning and we continue to reconnect with characters from other books and series'. For example this books brings characters from her Cold Harbor series and we first meet the Birds in her Truth Seekers series and characters from both series' are throughout this book. However they do not have to be read to enjoy this book. (It's just fun if you have read them to reconnect).
This book we really get to know the Byrd family, especially Aiden. As the Nighthawk team are actually just getting started the opportunity to protect the beautiful ski champ, Harper Young, this could make or break them in many ways. I love the family dynamic with the Byrds and the sparks between Aiden and Harper. I can't wait for more in book two, Night Vision.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review. -
3.5 stars
"Night fall. The beginning of the end of every day."
When it came to apprehending bad guys, darkness could be an ally and Aiden Byrd of Nighthawk Security desperately needed to catch the person responsible for stalking, threatening, and sending inappropriate gifts to Olympic skier Harper Young. It was his start-up company's first significant security detail; his brothers were depending on him and the governor was depending on him . . . to protect her daughter. The question now being, could Aiden depend on himself? He had never expected a strong jolt of attraction to be a major factor, and if his instincts were correct, the "zing" element was mutual.
Thank goodness they survived "that" particular conversation . . . . Aiden and Harper agreed to put their personal feelings aside, for neither were in a position to build a relationship and both needed to be focused on keeping Harper safe. What they didn't anticipate was God's timing.
Great plotting! More than a sufficient number of switchbacks while carefully navigating a maze of romantic roadblocks. -
Night Fall by Susan Sleeman
Nighthawk Security Series Book One
Aiden Byrd and his four brothers have started up a new business. Nighthawk Security. After Aiden donated one of his kidneys to his dad, he had to slow his life down. He'd been a SEAL and then an ATF agent. They figured this would keep him safer. Only, as the oldest brother, he still took charge and was the first to rush into danger.
Harper Young is driven to be the best she can be in her skiing. She's been an Olympic medal winner, and it's looking good for her this year to win some major championships. She has a slight stalker problem, though. Plus, her mom, who's the governor, has been receiving threats as well.
I enjoyed this story. Susan Sleeman has brought each brother to life with their unique personalities and quirks. As always, I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Sleeman does it again with another great book to start what seems like is going to be a terrific series about the brothers of the Nighthawk Security Team. Harper is an Olympic down hill skier but she has a stalker. Someone who wants to scare her and even harm her. Her mother, also the governor, hires the team at Nighthawk Security. When Harper meets Aiden there is an undeniable attraction that eventually they can't ignore. But through that attraction, can Aiden keep Harper safe? Through the twists and turns of this book, Sleeman makes the characters so relatable and the writing is masterful. I love how we get to see a side of an Olympian that we haven't seen before, but the author doesn't go into so much boring detail. Start reading this book and you really will feel like you're careening down a mountain at break neck speeds!
-
I have been a Susan Sleeman fan for a while now, especially the way she brings characters from previous series into the current one. Night Fall (yes, I’m behind but there’s just enough time in the day!), book one in the Nighthawk Security series follows that pattern.
The Byrd brothers have left their former careers in different areas of law enforcement to build their own security business. When they take on protection detail for an Olympian being stalked, there is an immediate attraction between her and the eldest Byrd. But protecting Harper is Aiden’s number one goal.
Sleeman adds plenty of blind twists and turns while giving readers an education in investigative procedures. I’m looking forward to spending more time with these brothers as they grow their business (and the upside of being behind in the series is that I can jump right into book two). -
Nightfall, Book 1 in the Nighthawk Security series doesn’t disappoint. The author brings to life her characters in this series as she has in all past series, and even better, she brings back characters from the Blackwell Tactical and Veritas Agency, people I already love, as supporting characters. It’s one big happy family reunion. And we have five more books to get to know new characters (more brothers!) and continue to visit with those family members I already love. Besides the character development, though, the author brings nonstop action and adventure, as she always does in her books. One can’t help but get an adrenaline when reading her stories.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but the opinions in this review are entirely my own. -
Sweet story but...
Sweet story but too PG for me. I also didn't know this was a book with strong religious basis. I could have read reviews and found that out so that's my fault. But the characters also didn't work for me. I like my mc females with backbone and I like my "bad guys" or "villains " to be lawfully punished or at least verbally reprimanded or fined, not forgive right away because that's the "Christian" thing to do. Im Christian and would have at LEAST smacked someone. Lol i would recommend this to people who want a little bit of mystery with their love of Jesus. Ill might continue book series because I want to know what happens to the rest of the gang, but I'm in no real hurry. -
I really enjoyed this romantic suspense novel by Susan Sleeman. Aiden Byrd is trying to get his security business off the ground and is first client is olympic skier, Harper Young. I like that this couple knows they are attracted to each other, but both seek to keep professional distance...that is until the danger gets too close! Harper's character is a combination of health, strength, focus, and courage and it is this combination that has helped her reach the top to her sport. Aiden's character was a bit more wishy washy, but he does do his job well. I love the dynamic with his family and the Veritas Center staff. A strong start to this new spin off series!
