How to Draw Flowers and Trees: Step by Step Drawing For Kids and Beginners Reviews
-
Hard-to-See Sketch; Out-of-Order Steps
Despite what the title says, in this book, the author only shows you how to draw flowers. I suppose that some directions for how to do stems and leaves could be extrapolated and used to draw trees, but that was not specifically addressed in this book. This book had a few issues beyond this as well. One of these is the same as a problem in the author's book on sketching for beginners. As in that book, in this one, she has you do a contour sketch first to lay out the different major elements of the drawing. When you yourself as the artist do this, it is supposed to be light so you can easily add color on top of it. However, in this instructional book, the author should have made this contour sketch dark enough so we the readers could see what she was doing in each step. Unfortunately, she did this contour sketch as light as you would do it if you were truly drawing the flowers yourself, making it very hard to see in the photographs of the sketches. But this book has an even bigger problem. The subtitle of this book promises that it will contain step-by-step instructions. I always assume that means each step will be shown in the order in which it's done. That didn't happen here. The author took a leap forward in the painting, did a few steps, and then jumped back to show how some of the earlier sketching was done. I thought it was bizarre that it went from very faint colors all over and no coloring whatsoever for the stem and leaves to suddenly being full color everywhere. If you call a book step-by-step instructions, they should indeed be step by sequential step! Because of the difficulty seeing the underlying foundational sketch and this strange leaping around within the steps, I do not feel like I can recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. -
Disappointed
Very little offered in this book. Sketchers were primary and lacking any detail in guidance I would not recommend this book.
