    MAN PLANS AND GOD LAUGHS

I enjoyed the first story in a new series that is part mystery, suspense, and a sweet, clean western romance. The story will have Hanna Marsh and her father leaving their home in Boston and traveling west to California. Dr. Marsh’s health has deteriorated, and the dryer climate of California is needed.

The story has the trials of the train trip and the final legs of the journey by coach. It will have Hanna them arriving and reconnecting with Luke Anderson, a former student of her fathers, but also someone that she has corresponded with for years. But now that she is here, what will happen with their relationship?

“Ah—and Prince Charming calls, right on time,” Dr. Marsh said, cracking a weak grin. “It’s really marvelous when the universe works according to the expected narrative. As I have often said, just as art imitates life, so it seems the life imitates art in return.”

The story includes a mysterious man, known as El Diablo, that later they will learn is Cunningham. Why is he making threats against the monks, and what is so important that he is determined to enter the Mission of San Amaro?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the results of a hundred battles” –Sun Tzu and the Art of War

I enjoyed the charming characters, interactions, and even the edge-of-your-seat moments. Luke and Hanna are a sweet couple, even if he has a hard time popping the question. The engagement brings joy to her father. The story also brings out the dangers in the wilderness, like rattlesnakes and unsavory characters.

Hannah and her father are on a train heading to California, a town called Twin rivers. Her father is very ill and needs a different climate to heal. They will be meeting with a historian named Luke. He is thrilled that they are coming. He knew her from when he studied at Cambridge University.

Along the way she fears her father may die. He became so sick she awakened and felt something was very wrong. She thinks he is dead. She runs around in the corridor yelling for help. A doctor who was on holiday steps in and helps.

They arrived and she is grateful he starts to recover.
She and Luke are reunited. Will he ask her to marry him? Ever time he goes to ask her something happens to stop him

Great story, felt as some of the story is missing. The ending is not what I was expecting.

    Another winner

I love the story line. I am from that area in which this story takes place. It gave me a mind's view of what that part if San Diego must have looked like. I love Katie's style of writing as she draws you into the story and you feel like you are there. Can't wait to read the next story.

    Historical Fiction

I just love reading historical western fiction. The time era in these books helps me to see how the people worked so hard to survive and all the hardships they endured.

    Hanna and Luke

Hanna traveled with her father to the West. Hopefully the different climate would help him breath better. Luke had been a student of her father's 2 years in the past. Now Hanna was hopeful that they would see after she arrived.

    Great Series.....

I've enjoyed reading this story, Hanna the Helper, the characters are on a long train ride to California, from the east.

    What people do for greed

Simply looking forward to seeing a new area and father’s health improved. The trip really taxed him and at one point I thought he passed.

    too short

Wish book was longer but that is good right? Have to continue the series!
Good characters and well described throughout
