The Dragon Flute (Daughters of Fire \u0026 Sea, #2) Reviews

I’ve taken my sweet time reading this book, and I can say that I enjoyed it throughly from beginning to end.
The story was well thought through, everything was detailed and interesting to the point where you can picture every character, place and scene.
Dare I say I think this book was better than the first, because I liked it way more and found it more interesting as the plot thickened.
I did want some sweet romance between Lyric and Kell, and I expected them to connect more with each other, but that just didn’t happen and that was partly why I took my time reading this book. Especially because I wanted to read a romance at the time.
Both of the sisters faced situations which were unusual and dangerous, but they showed great courage and strength which just may show their character development. Especially as they showed their similarities, and differences.
I liked how in every chapter we had the point of view from both of the sisters, Elaina and Kell, and so we had a grasp on what they felt, and what was happening at the places they were at.
I have to say that I was surprised at the ending, I did not expect anything of the sort to happen. But I have to say I liked it quite a lot. I do want to know how Runa’s choices have changed her in the third book of this trilogy, and I also want to know if the sisters will unite and connect with each other like before. -
I was absolutely head over heels in love with the first book and I have to say, I am not disappointed with the second part of the trilogy as well. Some people might call me biased for always giving 5 stars to fantasy novels, but I just can't help it when author has done such a excellent job. Holly has done a wonderful job in narration and has utilised all her amazing storytelling capacity in crafting a plot that engulfs us into a state of surprise and twists. She has created such a magnificent world that I wish I lived in erith instead of earth for real.
It is one of those books that makes you thankful for existence of fantasy (in pages anyway) After few chapters, you are so hooked that you just want to go on and on. I felt heartbroken with how things are falling apart in Lyric and Kell's relationship. She is so compassionate and kind. She deserves all the happiness of the world. I don't understand why this book is so underrated?? I mean, fantasy lovers, where are you people?? I just can't wait to read the conclusion of this epic fantasy and see how things turn out in the end. -
Argh!!! This was a superb second book. I absolutely love the introduction of the new characters. Hali is my favourite ❤️ I also love the three separate storylines that all converge to the same goal. It’s just a really exciting, nonstop fantasy full of light & shade. I can’t wait for book 3 - let’s go Runa 💪🏼

The expression "more of the same" carries some negative connotations to me, but it really shouldn't - not when that "same" is a good thing.
This book takes over from where the previous one ended and it keeps the story going. Just like with the first book, it takes some time to get started, but once it gets up to speed, it gets real good. Also, there are none of the pacing issues from the first book - at least not that I noticed.
I should mention that part of the reason I had a hard time with the start is that I really wasn't in the mood for fantasy when I started reading. I wanted to read it though, because the book was just released and I'd really enjoyed the first part.
What I'll whine about:
The story shifts between four different Point of View characters. Very often, it felt like the shift from one character to another happened just when things were starting to get really interesting. This annoyed me, but it's probably a consequence of having read, almost exclusively, books with only one PoV character so far this year.
The guardians are consistently referred to as they, which is technically correct for someone with unknown gender, but it still took me a very long time to get used to it.
What I'll gush about:
Runa. Runa is awesome. She's got the fire and the attitude that comes with it.
The world. The entire world is bursting at the seams with magic and mystery. There are ghosts and gods and dragons and demons and magic and different planes of existence and and and... It's really colorful, and it doesn't worry about mechanics and limitations and all that dry stuff, but just heaps it on, and it works anyway. It's delightful (and I mean that in a non-snarky, non-condescending way).
All the things going on in the background. It's not just the main plot of the story, but there's continuously new stuff being added that broadens the scope of what's going on. Definitely going to have to keep an eye out for the next one.
Final Comment:
If you enjoyed the first one, I strongly recommend this one. It's the same, just more and better. :) -
The imagery in this book is excellent. It’s so easy to picture the completely fictional places the characters are traveling to. I also enjoyed the character development created by telling the story from multiple characters’ points of views. I’m really looking forward to the third book in the series.

I liked the first book, but almost DNFed this one. The only character I couldn't connect with was Runa (and it was mostly her POV this time). However, I'm looking forward to the third book and hope for more action and more Lyric & Kell.

Amazing
Can’t wait for the last book! The characters are interesting & I love how surprised I was by how things turned out. I know most books can be predictable but to me it wasn’t & I’m excited to learn more about Kell’s past. -
Im not surprised that I love this book after loving the first one so much. The story never stops being interesting which makes you never want to put it down. I can’t wait for the third book!!!
