The Complete Tyrone Swift Mysteries (Tyrone Swift #1-7) Reviews

    Fast paced mysteries

An excellent series of mystery and well written books.
Well drawn characters and a narrative that was believable and yet left you wanting more in every book.
I like the way Tyrone Swift character develops over a period of time. A good read.

A fabulous author who writes excellent stories. On the one hand it’s good that there are side story lines going on but on the other, they can be a bit of a drag. The ongoing storyline regarding Cedric’s son, Oliver, is just annoying and whilst the relationships with his ex, Ruth, and now recent ex, Nora, might be representative off how life is, I’m finding them a drag and need a rest before I carry on with the series.

I had a chance to read book six but did not want to start in the middle of the series, so I found the whole set on KU. I read them in between books over the last year. Each one held my attention and were strong enough stories to keep you entertained. I was mot surprised to see how the series ended and felt that Ty should have sacked Nora sooner. She was too temperamental. I really like Kris as his partner. Ruth is just an overall bitch and I think I shed that he had not been so drawn to her and am sad that they had a child together. Ty was great at uncovering the truth behind mysteries that happened in the past. Even when it was uncomfortable for those who hired him. Great reads I would recommend them to others who enjoy this genre.

    DNF'd at 3% (page 49 of 1452)

Sadly, I found Tyrone completely unlikeable. He spent more time worrying about his affair with his newly-married ex, than about the case. There were a lot of surplus characters. A lot of unlikely incidents. A lot of overly describing, with floral language, scenes that have NO importance, while skimming past events I'd rather read about.

Some of the interviews and interrogations were rambling and disjointed, often too blunt at times. The writing style tends to overemphasise pointless events and under-explore important scenes, as well as taking forever to get to the point. Tyrone isn't so much an investigator as good at talking to people, because it's everyone else under the sun who gives him the 'clues' and information about the case.

    A few annoying problems:
    - I found the whole Dr sequence seriously questionable - what Dr will ever, ethically, hand out "free sample" antihistamines to a person she has never met before? She doesn't know his medical history at all.
    - Tyrone's thought process are as frustrating as when I read
A Meditation on Murder in that every woman he meets is in-some-way "attractive". Women are more than their looks, and it was disappointing that this was almost his first thought about every woman he met, when this is written by a woman.
    - The whole encounter with Rachel made NO sense. Tyrone hadn't been following or investigating her, but she still ran him the riot act, in the middle of the street, spilling all her dirty laundry all over the place. Seriously illogical.

I'm sorry to say that even a mysterious disappearance of a woman with no reason to disappear wasn't enough to make me finish the book. I didn't get the chance to care enough about the case to warrant continuing.

Bonus points for: POC and LGBT rep.
