Vengeance can be dangerous~

Grey Lawson returns home after serving a seven-year sentence for vehicular homicide while under the influence. The only reason he’s coming home to Winfield is to care for his great-aunt Elsie who raised him. He can’t believe that he didn’t realize seven years ago that everything he did affected this good woman. But now will his return cause her more trouble in the small Lake Superior town?

Trish Franklin, the first female deputy in the county, walks a tightrope too. As a law officer, she should see Grey only as an ex-con. On the other hand, she is the niece of the man Grey’s reckless action killed. As unlikely as it is, Trish finds herself attracted to Grey. He always seems to appear when she needs him to help with her family which is in crisis.

As she finds herself drawn to this good, repentant man, she faces the challenge of dealing with her intractable, bitter father. And a rash of copycat accidents in the eerie fog-shrouded evenings mimic Grey’s original crime. People wonder is Grey acting out some sick compulsion of his own. How can Trish solve this series of near fatal accidents before someone is seriously injured or killed? And sort out her feelings for the man her father hates?

Bitter Autumn (Northern Shore Intrigue, #2) Reviews

Bitter Autumn is book two in the Northern Shore Intrigue series, yet it can be read as a stand alone novel if you have not read book one, Precarious Summer.

I felt very sorry for Grey as he returned home. He was obviously repentant and had changed his ways, yet there were quite a few very angry people who continually bullied and confronted him as he tried to go about his life. I was impressed by Trish’s ability to see the new man that Grey had become. It was also refreshing to see that some of the community was able to forgive the past and try to welcome Grey home.

It was hard to watch as someone tried to set Grey up, over and over again, in order to get him sent back to prison or at least force him to feel as if he should move away. But I thought that the sheriff’s department did an excellent job of investigating every event.

This book really showcased the effects that bitterness, anger, and even guilt can have on people and pointed out that true change can be found by turning to God for strength.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

*This book was previously published in 2007 as Dangerous Game through Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense*

    4 stelle e mezza

Love this series! I was happy to return to this town for another great read with great characters.
My heartstrings were tugged in this tale of betrayal and what it takes to move forward.

I received a complimentary copy from the author but was not required to review.

    Bitter Autumn by Lyn Cote
Trish and her brother both work for the local sheriffs office, he being the head sheriff.
She's puzzled by the game of chicken and how others are getting hurt on the foggy nights on the deserted roads out of town.
Grey has also returned, served his time in jail for the crime he was committed of doing.... others want to see him gone and while the story is going on
you also hear from the side of one who is trying to set him up for another murder. Kidnapping or a child has run away, the cops just know the child is gone and it's night time.
Grey comes up wit the solution and he grabs Trish to help him out as it's her nephew.... Grey helps so many out that he can't be blamed for the recent traffic crashes and fatalities...
Never expected some events to take place, it's so unpredictable. Several end up at the hospital with heart issues because they are under so much stress.
So many secrets come to light and this is a high action adventure, bit of romance, solving crimes and a good all around story.
Was on the edge of my seat through the whole book, couldn't read it fast enough.
Like the ending when all is brought to the forefront and also leads you into the next book in the series. There is an excerpt of that also enclosed.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

    Bitter Autumn by Lyn Cote
Northern Shore Intrigue Series Book Two
Grey Lawson has returned to Winfield, Wisconsin. A small town that isn't very forgiving. If not for his ailing aunt, he would've started life over somewhere else. But Aunt Elsie needed him. And her home, friends, church were all here. So, he came back. After seven years in prison...his wasn't a very welcome return.

Deputy Sheriff Trish Franklin didn't know Grey, but her family hated him. Knowing her dad would be upset to find out he was released...she was ready to warn him. Only life interrupted. And she found that she had trouble hating Grey Lawson once she met the man.

Trouble starts up when Grey returns. Things out of his control...but easily blamed on an ex-con. He just wants to be there for Elsie and live a quiet life. That's not going to happen in Winfield, though. I loved the story, the characters, all of it. Excellent, heartwarming series.

This was an exciting, unforgettable book. One of the characters experiences a betrayal at the hands of a friend; it causes one to reflect on what it must have been like for Christ when he was betrayed by Judas. Some of the twists in the plot caught me by surprise. It was refreshingly unpredictable at times. Forgiveness and bitterness are both present dramatically in the lives of some of the characters, and the plot shows clearly the effect choosing one or the other has on the person's future.

I received an ecopy of this book from the author, but was not required to make a review. All opinions in this review are my own.

    You know its coming but.....

I've never been to Wisconsin, except through the writing of Lyn Cote. With every page I could feel the chill of autumn and taste the pasties in the diner in the small town. Getting to know Trish, who was a deputy in the background of book one in this series, is a readers treat. The dysfunctional families, the hurting people and Grey, trying to do the right thing on his early parole, make such vivid pictures in my mind and I couldn't stop reading. I've already bought the next book in this enjoyable series.

Trish and Grey's story. (maybe fiction but emotions ran high for the betrayal and a chunk of life that cannot be brought back.) Maybe short stories but packed with drama and mystery/suspense who the villain maybe? Not sure if I'm reading them in order but the characters of Winfield have shown up in the last books.
I'm hoping I bought the whole series last year and reading now, while the new releases come.

    Edge of your seat read...

Just the kind I like. I didn't see that coming. A lot of times I figure it out early but I did not this time. Definitely a good read. And, oh the sweet forgiveness of Jesus, the precious gift of salvation...beautifully woven into this story. Trish is bold, and even a bit brash, but the truth and depth of her words are necessary, and quite endearing. I highly recommend this book!

    Unwelcome Home

Some of the themes in this book include bitterness, anger, guilt as well as forgiveness, grace and even love. It's a story of Grey Lawson who returns home after serving only serving seven years of his sentence for the death of two people when he drove drunk back then. There are many twists and turns in this book. A great story!

This is a thrilling, intriguing adventure. It comes cover to cover with a captivating twisting plot, a feisty heroine and an underdog hero to cheer for, a cast of likeable characters supporting the lead characters, unexpected surprises on many pages and enough characters displaying deplorable bad behaviour that it is difficult for the reader to unmask the greatest villain before the author does.

my Aunt is having health problems

I wasn’t going back to where it all happened but my Aunt who has been raising me since I was a lad, needs me now. I am getting out of prison and going to help her until she doesn’t need me and then I will leave. I hope I can care for her and not let the past, tear me down….

    Great Story!

I loved reading this suspense romance. The pacing was nice and the plot kept me turning pages. Just when I thought I'd figured out the culprit, Lyn Cote would make me second-guess myself. And the twist at the end wasn't expected, either. If you're into clean suspense romance starring MCs with a strong Christian faith, this might be a good book for you.

    Bitter Autumn

What a roller coaster ride! If you like fast paced suspense you will love this story. Add romance and a double dose of God’s grace and that gives you a brief summary of this book.
