The Kill (The Hunt #3) Reviews

I have so enjoyed this fun, fantasy trilogy. It has all my favorite magical creatures and it told the story of them in a unique way I have never seen before.
Maeleigh is such and interesting characters. I think her deafness stayed consistent and believable the whole time. I was really watching for it and I was glad there was never a magical way to heal her or that it was a problem to "fix" within the story. There were times her needs needed to be accommodated and the proper time was taken to do that.
I also loved the romance and mating bond with Geardan. They are such a cute couple and I loved how their relationship grew and deepened through the whole series. What started as a insta-connection really did the work to grow.
I would have loved it we had one more book in the series. One that saw Maeleigh through graduation and what her next steps as an Alpha married to an Alpha. How relations would have worked within the pack she took over and how the Fae adjust to where things are at now.
All in All, I loved this whole series. It was fun, easy to read, and I never knew what would happen next.
4/5 stars for this finale. -
The series started out good well I was impressed by the main character and while the story was ok it was one of those series that the plot twists kinda changed the story completely it didn’t seem to flow right sometimes it was like it would drop details or character introduced from the first book or scenes added didn’t really add up with the adventure it was like they didn’t have a clear direction for the series the world they built in the last book was different then the one introduced in the first book which was much simpler making it a quick enjoyable read (a case of less is more) while leading up to the last book it made you wonder at the potential of the loose ends and made you question why some character were introduced only to be dropped when they could have done more with them to make the story more well rounded instead of continuously adding new elements and running with it , even though they are continuing the story in a new series and I like the characters but idk if I will continue because I didn’t care for the direction series took not because it’s a bad story a lot of people will enjoy it but it’s just not what I initially signed up for after reading the first book

It’s not even finished
The plot was really good. The whole series dragged you in. That doesn’t mean there aren’t issues. Like the author can’t decide what grade the heroine is in and constantly changes the way time moves. Like she would say “weeks later” then refer to something that happened and act like it was yesterday not “weeks ago.” But despite all that, I was really enjoying it. Right up until she just stopped the book. It was nearly finished. It’s like writing about World War II but stopping on D Day and not finishing the story. Then there’s an author’s note about having to switch genres to finish the story. It’s a toss up at this point if I will read any more of this author’s work after that. -
The book kind of finished with a cliffhanger. Will there be a fourth book? Book 3 has left me with so many unanswered questions. Overall book 3 was a good read.

I really enjoyed the end of the series and am looking forward to the follow on series “Truce:Aftermath Series”.

The end really
Very promising series but the ending just left me ugh , I hope another book is coming or something ??? Sooon !!! -
What an Amazing Series!! 👏👏👏
Loved it all the way through!! Hated for the story to end where it did, but left me wanting more!!! It was soo good. On to the next! #HappyReading ❤ -
Broken
Sometimes we have to break something to fix something. Old cars and open heart surgery are good examples. Maeliegh and Gearden, have to break the prophecies in order to free the prisoners and right a wrong. Is the cost worth it? -
Read this book
This is a very good series. Cant wait to see what else is in store for this series. Give it a try -
Whew. That was a fitting "end" to the trilogy. (More on that below.)
As with the previous novels, Maeleigh continued to develop the powers that she knew were buried deep within. With the help of Queen Selena and the unfailing support of her pack and mate, she found herself overcoming her own uncertainly about her strength and the role she would have within this newfound family.
There were some definite twists - some less surprising than others - but the nature of the slow reveal we've seen throughout this trilogy made the answers that much more satisfying when we, as readers, got them. I did find myself yelling at poor Mae several times - "Why don't you just ASK your dad what all he's hiding?!" - because it seemed like a lot of her discomfort with the unknown could have been rectified if she'd just pressed a little more. The relationship between her and her dad was one that I wish we had seen more time given to, both for healing and the training that he could likely help her with.
The ending - though I'm happy we can lean towards calling it a conclusion instead - would have been fine left as it was. It was the sort of ending where we were given answers, embracing hope, and had a glimpse towards what could be... however I could see how many would ask about what lies ahead. It certainly wouldn't be the first series to end with the characters riding off into the sunset of the unknown, so to speak. But the opportunity in another book to show us what truly comes from the shaky events of The Kill will no doubt be welcomed by those who enjoyed this story and are eager to see what Maeleigh and Gearden do next. -
Okay so this isn't supposed to be the end of the journey but just the end of the chapter in the lives of the main characters as they move on to the next chapter in their lives. After reading the first three books and given how the third book ended, I find myself at a standstill on a couple things. Now I'm not sure if the next chapter of the series will hold the answers or fill in some gaping holes that was left unfilled in my opinion.
For starters.
I do love Maeleigh and feel like she's grown and become more confident in herself. She's more comfortable with the pack, her mate and in herself since the first book. I like that she can hold her own despite her disadvantages and continues to charge forward one step at a time.
Gearden I think has grown too in this book and has become more aware of things I think especially in his relationship with Maeleigh. I like how he realized on his own how his best friend Bri made learning how to sign a priority so she could communicate better with his mate while he has not but to his credit he plans to do better. I thought that it was sweet and that he owned the little flob.
I also like how Ro's stepped up in the last two books and you can see just how serious he takes his role, though I would have liked to have seen more of him and Maeleigh together in this book and really hope that we get to in the future.
The romance was on the PG scale and not really a whole lot of content there which is fine because the book has a lot of sweet moments.
Now for the issues that I have with this book.
If you've not read the first or second book and don't want spoilers, then stop reading here and go down to the short gap at the end to continue the review without being spoiled.
I have three main things that really bugs me.
The first issue I have is that in book two The Chase we find out that Maeleigh has an uncle, who is also an Alpha over a different pack and seemed interested in getting to know his niece when meeting her. However, we meet him, and he makes a second appearance at the end of that book and then just disappears to never be seen again. Now I thought we'd see some kind of development in this book which is why I wasn't too concerned over it in the last book but there was none. Now this could be fixed later on down the line. I don't know. What I do know is that it seemed like a pretty big deal and well to me it just felt like it was dropped with no result. Which was frustrating honestly.
My second issue was the fact that Maeleigh became the alpha over the Westboro pack in book two.
My problem with that detail is the fact that it's a big detail that's never utilized. The second pack really isn't included in the story at all. The main characters talk about it and their seen once but that's it. Their Alpha's being threatened, and they do nothing. Their Alpha's in trouble and nothing. They don't even push her to step in and fill the role as their Alpha or show any kind of concerns about her being their leader or push her to fix the hierarchy of their pack. We see how things work in Gearden's pack and the roles everyone fills but this second pack is basically left with no one to look out for them.
Granted the pack has a history of terrible leaders which abused them so I could get the fact that they are skeptical over for those reason but there was no build for them or Maeleigh as an Alpha. So, the storyline as far as her becoming Alpha of a whole other pack wasn't fulfilled in my opinion.
And another thing given how book three ended it leaves me with even more questions regarding that second pack since their Alpha is in the wind so to speak.
My third issue is with Maeleigh's family life. Like the uncle who we met and then disappeared. I felt like the same thing kind of happened with the mother. We know Maeleigh's adopted or well kind of anyway since Ben is her real father and that the woman, she calls Mom isn't her biological mother but the woman who has raised her. I find it a little troubling to believe that she would just be A-OK with the girl she sees as a daughter living with her boyfriend at a young age. There isn't a whole lot of concern from her at all in any sense. She makes no effort to keep in touch with Maeleigh at least none that I picked up on. Even if it was just a few texts here and there that we saw where she was asking if she was okay or wanted to know if she needed anything. Or maybe a phone call or Liam Gearden's father telling Maeleigh that her mother called. It would have been something that would indicate that she still cared about the girl she supposedly still sees as her daughter.
We don't see any kind of moment between Maeleigh and both of her parents at all. Which would fine I guess if they were just calling it quits and getting a divorce but then there is no talk about the kid they have or the house or anything that would point to that being in the background and just not showed. I guess what I'm saying is it would have been nice to see some kind of I don't know reconciliation or conflict or anything really between the three of them that might give the rest of us a clue as to the fate of Maeleigh's family.
Again, any of this could be fixed down the road but right now these things bother me because of the way book three ended leaves me to think that certain things aren't going to be cleared up later.
One thing that I do want to say is I did not see the plot twist that happened in this book coming at all. I really loved that moment shared between Ben, Maeleigh and Danu.
I'm still giving the book four stars and will continue into the next chapter of this story and hope that some of the issues I listed above will make more sense and that the author shines more light on them. (Fingers crossed.) Even if not, I don't think that I'll be left regretting the decision to continue reading this series and I'm very curious as to what lies ahead for these characters. I'm also looking forward to meeting some new ones and see how they play into it all. -
This was such a great addition to the series. I really liked the way that it ends and leaves plenty of room for more books. I would definitely recommend this series to others who love paranormal romance and love (literal) alpha-wolf romance.

Well, Alainna does it again with keeping me on the edge of my seat. Our FMC, Maeleigh, has had to undergo more drama than needs be at this point. The rival pack has taken one of their owns family to prove a point. So, the entire pack gets together to take down their rivals and rescue the family. But in doing so, Mae still a newbie wolf ends up squaring off with the Alpha and Beta of the pack and she does something no one expects. She transforms into a werewolf that you only see in movies, one that stands up on 2 feet. And in doing so she lets Luna (her wolf) take over and the need for revenge runs deeps, to the point she kills the alpha and takes the beta in as a hostage. Now she must face off any challenger that wants to take the Alpha spot from her. To make matters worse she is getting closer to finding the prophecy which is now a contract to free the Seelie that are underground. Oh and she still has to attend school. This poor girl!
Throughout it all Mae stands strong. She doesn't back down from a fight and faces every challenge like a true Alpha. I'm curious what's going to happen next with a cliffhanger like that! I do love how Geardon didn't even think about letting Mae go off on her own and he joined her in this next adventure ahead. -
The finale book in the series just seems a bit clumsy to me. The storyline was overly complex and under explained IMO and I found myself skim reading just to get to the end for the conclusion. Then there wasn’t even a HEA, just an opening for another book. Disappointed to be honest

I love the way this story is unfolding and I can’t wait to see how the story continues to grow with the characters. Especially the new once’s being added!
