Tory ruined this book for me. I think I'm being harsher than necessary with my rating on this one because I'm just so ๐คฌ๐คฌ with certain parts of this book right now.

I definitely plan to read the rest of the series but I think I might need a mental break right now haha -
Tory sucks
I donโt know if it was intentional, but I hated Tory throughout this entire story. Her constant pity parties were awful and the only way I could force myself to keep reading was because Darcy was actually compelling to read about. I hope this is just setting up Tory to have a big redemption arc because it was painful (and not in a good way) to read how totally she devolved as a character. Sheโs shown no growth and apparently has no redeeming qualities, and Iโm not even talking about the decision she made at the end, she was awful the entire book. Hopefully something changes in the next book because if not, Iโm definitely dropping this series. -

I'm going to stop trying to summarise the plot from here on, because it pretty goes like this every time:
In the last 10% of book A shit is going down, book B picks right where A left off and the characters have to deal with the consequences of what happened at the end of A while dealing with their own problems & traumas at the same time.

โ DARCY & TORY VEGA.
One thing that was solid about this series from the start, is the strong sister bond between Darcy and Tory. It was always them against the world and for the first time the lies and secrets from the previous books are catching up to them and causing a riff. It had to happen, cause it couldn't be 7 books all rainbows and sunshine between them, but I still didn't like it when it happened. It made everything worse, because their riff happened when everything else was falling apart too, so reading that was depressing af and felt wrong. Those chapters gave me a feeling of "doom" like something bad is going to happen any moment and it made me fucking anxious. ๐ฉ Luckily, their rocky relationship was only a smaller part of the book and they made up. The doom still happened, but idk if the Vega twins have e/o backs everything is going to work out somehow.
"Take it in turns. Does one of you want to go first?"
"I will," I said quickly. Darcy frowned at me but I held her gaze, not backing down. "If this is dangerous then I'm not risking you doing it first," I said simply. "You're the only thing I've got that matters to me in this world. If I lost you, I might as well be dead anyway so I'm not arguing."
"Tory..." Darcy replied with a frown. "Don't say things like that."
"It's true." I shrugged. "And it's not up for debate."
โ PROFESSOR LANCE ORION.
Every book I think I cannot possibly love this guy more and he proves me wrong. The fact that all the relationship he has are fantastic just proves what a catch he is. Orion-Darius bromance. Check. Orion-Gabriel bromance. Check. Orion-Darcy romance. DOUBLE CHECK. He's THAT man. He has the RANGE. You know how he keeps being an asshole in class and basically to everyone, but I love how he's trying to be less of an asshole to Tory and build a relationship with her, because he knows how much Tory means to Darcy.I faced the board, curious as Orion wrote his quote of the day on the board.

I arched a brow, glancing at Tory. "That's almost a compliment." I breathed and she laughed, but our amusement died away as Orion added more to the board.

THEY ARE GOALS!!! Darcy and Orion's relationship is risky af, cause of their forbidden student-teacher romance. So many things can go wrong and they keep trying to make their relationship work. Both of them actually put so much effort in it. There are so many little moments that is making me soft when it comes to them. Their scenes keeps getting better w every book and I'm loving it here. ๐ฅบ

Lance Orionโs 5 love languages:
1. Words of affirmation
Orion shot to my side in a blur, steering me out of earshot of the waiting Keepers. โYouโll have to work on your stamina,โ he said with a suggestive smirk. โApart from that, itโs clear youโre made for this, Blue.โ He dipped his head to my ear for half a second. โThought you might be.โ
It's the way Orion believes Darcy can do anything she sets her mind to and is always her biggest cheerleader.
2. Acts of Service
When it was revealed that the twins order form is a phoenix, Orion went straight to the library to find everything about phoenixes so that the twins could learn more about their magic. He knew he could help them strengthen their power and read more about it to help Darcy. Also the other time when Orion prepared his date with Darcy under the willow tree. Who would have thought this asshole professor would be so trash for a girl. If he wanted to, he would. Lance Orion proves that every single book.
3. Receiving gifts
Orion being a complete romantic and preparing wine and a gift for their liaison session. Orion gives Darcy a gift and it's a rose quartz. In Solaria they have a tradition to give a rose quartz to their significant other when they want to be exclusive. AHHHHHHH. AHHHHH. AHHHHH. *continues to scream for quite a while* Excuse me while I'm screaming all my feelings into the void, cause I can't deal with these emotions.
4. Quality time
Please when Orion put Darcy into the Pitball club. I'm wheezing. You can't convince me otherwise that he didn't do it just to spend more time with her as he is the Pitball coach. Especially since Pitball means so much to Orion, I love to think of them just spending more quality time over a mutual hobby since Darcy is in the team now.
5. Physical touch
Darcy giving Orion a striptease. While she's doing it, she has her clumsy moments and it makes it even hotter for Orion. Please they are so precious. ๐ฅบ technically that's Darcy's love language to Orion. But the fact that Orion is a vampire, an order that likes to stay by themselves and avoid touch and whenever he is close to Darcy, he can't help but touch her in some kind of way. That man can't keep his hands to himself when he is near her.

He is SOOOOO smitten with her. All Darcy has to do is bat her eyelashes at him and he would do anything for her and it makes me want to bawl my eyes out.
Just wear what you like and put an illusion over them only Geraldine can see." Orion shrugged like that was so simple and I gave him my biggest eyes.
"You mean you'll do it for us?" I asked sweetly.
His eyes slid over me. "Yeah of course Blue."
Tory's brows lifted as she gazed at him. "The weirdest thing about all of this is you being nice, you know that right?"
If anything happens to them I'm going to scream!
"I want you like I've never wanted anything or anyone. And I will fight to make you mine, no matter what it takes. No force in Solaria will rip us apart."
I stared at him in awe of his words, lost to the power of them I clutched his hand and nodded firmly. "I'll fight for you too, Lance Orion. Whatever it takes."
"Whatever it takes," he echoed and a clap of power sparked between our hands.
Darcy & Orion out here giving me AVENGERS feeling. ๐ I love how well matched Darcy and Orion are. Their relationship is perfectly balanced out with every party involved doing everything they could to keep the relationship going. It's always making me soft the length they are willing to go to protect and fight for each other. ๐ฉ

Here is the thing. I like Darius and Tory as individuals (enough). Tory was hella frustrating in this book, but I was warned by a couple of friends, so I didn't hate her too much. Also, I ADORE their relationships with other people (Tory with Darcy even Orion & Darius with Orion/Xavier/all the heirs), but when they are together, Tory and Darius are toxic. Hell, there are a lot of toxic couples out there that I love, give me toxcitiy anytime to a degree, but Tory and Darius are just frustrating me. Their relationship is stagnant and there is hardly any development, because they are both hot-tempered, stubborn and like to see the worse in e/o, especially Tory when it comes to everything Darius-related. This book we FINALLY got their first real kiss and sex scene after 4 long books and you know what... I FELT NOTHING, because I knew the second it was over Tory and Darius would go back hating and ignoring e/a, saying it was a mistake bla bla bla we've been here many times before. There is so much hot and cold, push and pull and personally iโm tired of them.
"You pulse through my blood with each beat of my heart. I live for every scrap of attention you offer me and suffer through every moment you spend ignoring me," he said darkly, holding my eye the entire time.
By the end of this series, people are going to say that Tory/Darius is the couple that made it against all odds, but IMO they had enough opportunities to make the relationship work in their favor, but decided not too, because of their pride, close-mindedness, lack of communication, I could name so many things that is wrong with their relationship and how THEY ARE THEIR WORST ENEMIES.
When the end happened and the decision between Tory and Darius that was made.. I saw that coming. I hurted for Darius, but at the same time I'm like dude.. you could have worked harder for it. You could have done so many things differently before that moment. You couldn't have chosen a worse timing to apologise the first time everything you've put Tory through. As for Tory, I understood why she rejected the bond and I was cheering her on. She had to do what felt right for her and it made me so proud. If a guy tried to drown me, choked me, pushed me into the mud and called me a whore and other things without ever apologising to me, I would have done what Tory has done too. ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ
โ THE HEIRS.
I jinxed myself.. here I was saying that I started to like Seth and in this book he shit all over that again. No no go fuck yourself werewolf. The way I had hopes that Seth and Darcy could end up besties, but after this book... ahahahahaha it's still possible, because there are still 3 more books, but Seth better makes up for all the pain he caused in Shadow Princess. If he's the reason something happens to Orion.. it's on sight.
Caleb somehow was less annoying in this book too. Ngl I even felt a little bad for him, because he clearly cares about Tory and she's giving him the cold shoulder, but how can I just not see that she isn't interested?!CALEB: Hey, sweetheart. Do you wanna hang out tonight? X
I watched as the red ticks illuminated to let me know she'd read the message. She was probably trying to think up the perfect thing to say back to me. Agonising over it, debating it with her friends and trying to figure out how best to respond to me.
TORY: No.
I'm shipping Max and Geraldine so much. It's beautiful to see how she wouldn't even think about giving him any attention, which makes him crave it even more. I can't wait to read their novella.

This bromance is the best. I love it so much. They remind me of Johnny and Gibsie (
Binding 13 &
Keeping 13) another amazing bromance. It's never not hilarious when both of them get so touchy with each other and feel so happy when the other is around.. it's so untypical for their orders. Also their banter is top notch. Darius is jealous of Gabriel & Orion's friendship and it's so funny. LOL.
Darius stood up, pulling me into a tight embrace, his muscles looking around me. The bond between us grew sharper and I clutched onto him. "I'm gonna miss you," i said out loud, even though I'd meant to say it in my head.
"As much as Gabriel?" Darius asked, his forehead knocking against mine.
"You guys need to get a room," Tory interrupted and we stepped away from each other.

Protect Xavier at all cost. Geraldine is a QUEEN and a SAVAGE. I want to be her when I grow up, even tho I don't understand half of the shit that comes out of her mouth. ๐คฃ

โ Tory, Darcy, Orion, Darus, Seth, Max, Caleb & Xavier having a snowball fight!!!! One of the best scenes in the whole series hands down. I was waiting for something like that for so long!! If they could all see the bigger pictures and work together to fight off the bigger evil, they would be unstoppable.

SO DAMN CRUEL (I read the last few chapters with blurry eyes, I also might have screamed a little).
Now that I've had time to process it and my emotions are not all over the place I'll try to review this. (This review turned out to be lengthier than what I was expecting. Sorry). Though there's so much to say I don't know where to start. My initial thoughts were Oh boy, I wanna die but I'm just so glad that I don't get to wait for the next book๐
I loved it. I hated it. But most of all, I loved it.
The book ends with such great emotion, with the words "I need help!" And that's EXACTLY what I needed after finishing this.
This had a lot of ups and downs, in terms of decisions the characters made. Lot of crap went down which could've been avoided (if they could've just listened to me lol, I wish). There was so much of miscommunication it actually did frustrate me a bit due to which I was going to give it four stars initially, but the last 100 pages bumped it up to five. It was definitely all sorts of action packed๐
Coming to the characters, my girl Darcy is the real MVP and I'll fight everyone who doesn't agree. Her character is pushed to the limits in this one and seeing her growth in the last few chapters is amazing.
Seth is a douche, that's a pretty apt description of him. We get to see Max's softer side a bit and I definitely liked that. I felt bad for Caleb in this one throughout the book, he's definitely one of my two favourites of the Heirs; Darius obviously being the second one. Darius' character messed with my feelings and honestly he deserves better๐ญ No way he was left like that. I want more. He deserves more๐ญ๐ญ He's the kind of grump you want to be a sunshine for.
Out of all the characters, Tory Vega, sister of Darcy Vega, frustrated me the MOST. I was angry at her throughout this book, especially at the end which was pure heartbreak (for me as well). Not a single good decision from her. I get that it's all part of her arc but what she did was so cruel (I think we all can agree). Her angry persona made me angry. It felt like there were shadows in me whenever she did something messed up.
What about Lance Orion? Perfect. Doesn't need to change. I'm going to overlook his stupid decision that caused the crap at the end because he's Lance Orion๐ฅต
I need me a Lance Orion ๐
Anyway, to sum up, the book challenges the reader in all its ways. It's got action, great plot, characters that are full of personality and fire, drama, love, great laughs and so full of emotions you actually feel what the characters are going through. The perfect recipe to keep the reader hooked and longing for more.
I can't wait to find out what happens next. If something happens to my man I'm going to invent a whole new Order and flip out๐ -

I've been bingeing this series over the last week or so because it's just that addictive. The last time I read something that was this cheesy but emotionally wrenching was during my college manga phase. You think anime is all fun and games until you decide to read the entire Hana Yori Dango series in one summer and find yourself drinking wine by the glass and clawing out your hair in chunks. Then you know pain.
SHADOW PRINCESS is book four in the Zodiac Academy series. Book three, THE RECKONING, was my absolute favorite book in the series so far-- it was action-packed, dramatic, emotional, and stunning, with character development and the answers to questions that had been steadily building over the previous books. SHADOW PRINCESS, on the other hand, is... the weakest? Ah, don't hate me!
But, like, seriously. I've been Tory's staunch defender for the last couple books. I know she has real emotional pain and boy, does this book prove it. And even though she has some of the best lines in these books, she is also such a stubborn fool. Her sleeping around doesn't bother me, but her emotional pigheadedness does, as does her constant need to be a jerk and never change. Darcy has changed a lot over the four books. You can tell that she's on the verge of becoming the powerful woman she'll one day be: she doesn't take any shit, she's nuturing, and there's an emotional maturity to her that Tory really lacks. It makes it really, really hard to like Tory, who doesn't change. She just remains a self-centered asshole who insults everyone to cover up the pain inside.
And don't even get me started on Darius, who is literally the exact same way. They're both Sad Dracos in Leather Pants, I swear to God. Every time I find myself warming to the guy, he does something stupid. Maybe I just don't like him because I was shipping Tory and Caleb and this feels like a reprise of the Rhysand/Tamlin situation that put me off the ACOTAR books. I don't like it when one ship kind of feels like end game, only for the author(s) to play a big switcheroo. That said, the ending legitimately made me tear up and scream, NOOOOOOO. I would hate to be a reader picking these up as they were coming out and wondering what was going to happen next. I mean, really.
So why three stars instead of four? This book started to feel really dialed in. There were too many POVs. I didn't need to see Max mooning over Geraldine. I don't really care about Max. I also don't really care about Seth. In fact, I hate Seth and this book just made me hate him more. I actually preferred it when the books were mostly just in Tory and Darcy's POVs. It was more fun for me when you could only guess at what was going on in the guys' heads. Subtlety is an underappreciated art form. I found myself skimming chunks of these books and noticing a lot of repetition. The word "growl" and its various iterations are used 175 times and smirk was used 121 times, just to give you a taste. I was pressed to look it up when I noticed the words "I smirked" TWICE on the same page.
Also, Washer doesn't need that many cameos. He's gross. I don't want it. Stahp.

Have you ever felt EXHAUSTED while reading a book?
724 pages.
Why God. WHY? Did Tory Vega really need 400 pages of being a whiny pathetic little bitch? Did Seth really need 120 pages to make me wish he was dead? (I've wanted him dead since book 1 anyways) Did we really need 200 pages of the same back-and-forth just to make me feel like I was reading book 1 all over again?
Guess we'll find out, tonight on Discovery Channel.
If I was the sort of person who drinks, I'd be on my fifth shot of sacrificial whiskey while writing this review. Anyway, let's tackle the obvious, what I hated.
- Tory Vega. I hate her. Always have, always will. Her constant pity parties, whining, selfishness, and: I want Darius. I hate Darius. I want Darius. I hate Darius. I will bounce on Caleb's dick as many times as I can even though that ADDS NOTHING to the plot and I have zero connection to him whatsoever. My sister needs TO LOVE ME, APPRECIATE ME. Darcy needs to attend to all my emotional needs while I don't pay attention to a single thing that is going on with her.
Someone should have left this bitch in the human world. The more I read these books, the more I want Darius to really ruin the fuck out of her life, she doesn't deserve the air she breathes and she would never be a good ruler.
- Seth why the fuck is this character even here? Seth, Caleb, and Max are the most useless, shallow and underdeveloped characters I have ever read about and they are just there for filler content. They're there to sound like a bunch of fucking chads and say: BABE, LITTLE VEGA, SWEETHEART in condescending tones, fuck everything that moves, and make me want to puke every time they make a decision that adds nothing to the plot and DOES NOT belong to their personality profile just for shock value.
I truly wish they would die. They are SO inconsequential to this entire thing, they're just there to cause plot-controlling inconveniences for their lazy writing.
- THE BOND The fact that Orion and Darius have that stupid little bond that makes them attracted to each other as straight men. I am not a gay man and I can't say if this is problematic or not, but JESUS CHRIST that annoys me to no end. They use the little "we want to cuddle because of the bond, we want to make out because of the bond" as a fucking joke. As a comedy device. Gay characters/attraction is not a comedy tool. The entire thing made me uncomfortable and annoyed. I also hate how their inner dialogues about it is usually: I hate that the bond makes me feel this way about him, I hate that it makes me want to suck his dick. Shut the fuck up. They didn't want to commit to a relationship between them other than brotherly love but this entire bond thing is useless and weird.
- The dumb southern girl and the token Mexican kid : I don't think I need to explain this one. This series just has too many stereotypes that didn't need to exist. They are already supernatural creatures, get creative with THOSE stereotypes.
- Length and Lack of Editing you'd think that five books deep, they would have hired an editor that would say: hey, maybe this doesn't need these 40 extra chapters. Maybe we should focus more on the girls having real classes and actually learning something for once. Maybe we should go deeper into the world-building and add SOME droplets of it for a change. Maybe we should give these characters more solid personalities and make sure they stick to it?
MAYBE JUST MAYBE, a well-written plot twist is worth 300 cliffhangers.
They started with this ridiculous shit again, just to make sure people pick up the next book. A sloppy, non-sense cliffhanger that came out of NOWHERE, with no actual build-up.
And please, don't even get me started on that Tory and Darius bullshit. You know what? He dodged a fucking bullet if you ask me. I wouldn't want to be tied to fucking Tory Vega for the rest of my life.
I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY THIS BUT DARIUS-DESERVES-BETTER.
Do you know who is the most CONSISTENT CHARACTER? THE VILLAIN OF THIS STORY. DARIUS' DAD KNOWS WHAT'S UP. He knows what he wants and he is going after it, and everything he does makes sense. Because it fits his personality profile. It fits his belief system. Even when he does something unexpected, IT FITS THE FUCKING BILL. Unlike every other character in here.
if you are a writer or trying to be one, here is a tip: you need to know your characters, you need to understand their purposes, wants and needs. fears and wishes. AND THEY NEED TO REMAIN consistent, along with their choices and actions. They will all be guided by those things. And SLOWLY, add things that can shake up their belief system and maybe cause a disruption in how they see the world.
I feel like these characters are being held hostage by these two authors who don't respect the characters they created THEMSELVES. They are pushing and pulling them, making them do things that make no sense so it fits their SLOPPY, LAZY plot and it is infuriating.
I promised I am finishing this series because it's personal now. I want to be able to pinpoint every mistake, every disgrace, I want to criticize it with the knowledge of a FUCKING SCHOLAR OK.
Now to the few good things, the only reason this book got 2 stars from me. Orion and Darcy. That's it. I want to remove every page they are on, and just make ZA their series. Their story. The only times I smiled, laughed or enjoyed myself was when they were present and I KNOW, I just KNOW they are going to fuck up the only good thing in this series in the next books.
Because I am slowly learning their MO. And the MO of this series is BUTCHERING characters for the sake of shock.
Anyways, 2 stars. One for Darcy being the only sister who is worth something and one for Orion finally being on time for his classes for the first time in four books.
My blood boils but we will move on. Everyone is telling me: there is so much character development on book five, the writing has matured so much. If y'all are lying to me, you are getting bitch slapped.

The story was good! It took me a while to get invested in it, especially in the โshadow worldโ part. It was a bit repetitive to me.. But once youโre in it, it's hard to put down.

Their chapters are giving me LIFE and itโs honestly what kept me going the first half of the book!
This relationship is giving me everything I want.
The ride or die vibes, the cute little gestures, the things Orion says the her, the moments he creates for them. Iโm swooning so hard! ๐ญ
Since thereโs nothing sacred in this world and everything goes to shit at some point itโs a bit scary to have something this great but weโll see what happens to them in the next books. ๐ค

The day has finally come... After having been a member here since 2013 I felt the need to write a review because nobody else has written what I felt about this series.
Now, listen, I am not hard to please. I read a lot and I enjoy it. I can accept editing mistakes and I understand fully the need to write something that you know will please your fans because you follow what they liked on other books and you need to make a living out of this. But you actually have to put work into it to turn an idea to a book.
Let me start by saying this is a good idea for a story. There's a Fae realm (hello S. J Maas), a school for the gifted (hey there J.K Rowling) and a star crossed lovers theme (here's looking at you Laini Taylor). The prose is not bad either, the authors know how to evoke feelings and emotions. What it lacks is proper story progression, world building and character development. To the point that it becomes ridiculous.
------------------SPOILERS BELOW & MODERATE PROFANITY------------------------
It is laughable that these two 18 year girls that have been dragged to another realm only to find they are princesses and pretty much the most powerful fae alive, not at any point do they go to the fucking library to read a book about the history of said realm.
It is laughable that these girls have not tried to get a basic grip of what their powers entail. As in GO TO THE FUCKING LIBRARY and get yourself a book on basic spells so that you can maybe heal yourself? Get your hair to grow? Or maybe make your pan fry your bacon on its own? Or how about concocting a potion so that when vampires attack you for your blood they will get repelled by it?
It is laughable that the authors throw at us the notion of Elysian mates and then think that they would surprise us with Darius and Tory being destined for each other. A 10 year old could see through that.
It is laughable that these two girls would swoon and look at the abs of the men that tortured them, humiliated them, circulated nude pictures of them and tried to kill them.
It is laughable that these girls have not asked even basic questions about their family and heritage. I mean shouldn't they have at least a cousin or two? Where are they? Shouldn't there be a guardian or something of their heritage? Didn't their parents have parents, siblings or friends?
It is laughable that the girls are trusting their powers and their lives to the hands of shady Orion who has repeatedly told them that he doesn't want them to get the throne and that he won't help them there.
It is laughable that after everything that has happened to them they are still the same people they were on book one.
I really don't want to be mean and I think I'm failing at that. The fact that I have so strong opinions and writing a review is proof enough that the authors have talent in writing. If only they would stop fan serving and actually use their skills to create a world around this school and interesting characters to inhabit it. At this point it cannot be saved. But it can get better. Best of luck with that and I will be here for book #5. -

tory bothered me a lot this book. i feel like it was cute the first three books but once youโre on the fourth book like come on something has to give. i canโt handle stubborn people for too long it gets so annoying. at this point her and darius are not even miscommunicating itโs just stonewalling. the decision at the end was dumb sorry not sorry. girl bffr. i was so happy their back and forth might finally come to an end. that lasted all of 0.4 seconds. itโs not even angst anymore takemeoutofmymisery

Officially a Darius Acrux and Tory Vega stan page, complete with emotional turmoil! So if half this review is about them Iโm really sorry in advance ๐ญ
Darcy was in the plot way more again because I felt like she was sort of not doing as much in the last book, but here she was amazing again. I love her characters development and how she actually is using her more aggressive side now more than ever, and I just am really happy that we have a fantasy MC who actually is trusting and kind to people. Itโs refreshing honestly how genuine and kind Darcy is.
My favourite girl, Tory!! She was amazing in this book. I know lots of people donโt like her but her abrasive side and tough decisions and the pain she puts herself though just draws me towards her character. Sheโs not sweet and kind and sheโs just so complex and layered. I loved reading scenes where she was talking about herself or in her POV where after something happened she would be trying to explain to herself why she did it to justify it and not being able to. Sheโs a difficult person but as I read more books Iโm beginning to realize I prefer difficult characters to read about. Let them mess up and be cruel and fiery and not care, because the development is so satisfying when they see their full potential. I know Tory is definitely not going to be okay for a while but I am so in love with her ๐ญ
The plot was top notch. It was a bit looser in pacing compared to the other ones but this book is long (over 600+ pages) and I read it in an entire day. Itโs addictive because every POV is so intriguing and gives the characters and their actions + motives more layers. Itโs hard to stop because these characters are so damn likeable. Hard to confess, I know, but Iโm so attached to most of them <3
DARIUS!! โค๏ธ ACRUX!! So as no one is surprised if youโve seen my status updates, I am in love with him. I just think that his multi layered character personality and his development and lack of it at times makes him so compelling. And his POV is 10000% my favourite. I just canโt say enough in his praise. He has so many different sides and I just enjoy how theyโre all explored. Itโs so interesting to see how he deals with his past terrible actions. Plus, the saving your love interest trope is one of my favourites ever and heโs done this waaaay too many times in this series. I swear the fact that heโs going to Toryโs door in the middle of the night and just pulling her out of the shadows in case she gets too far into them and always looking out for her is so sweet ๐ญ Tory does too many reckless things and I know heโs going to have a heart attack soon over it .
Caleb is so sweet as always. The way heโs considerate of everyone is just something so unique. I mean he can be pretty mean sometimes but thereโs just something about the way that you can see he genuinely cares about his friends and all that makes him very appealing. Heโs so sweet <3
Max getting a personality? Definitely a shocker but Max is so funny. Now that we have more of his POV , itโs hilarious because he has no clue whatโs happening 90% of the time, is trying to read emotions to tell whatโs going on and just gets confused, and he just gives hilarious commentary because he has no clue whatโs going on.
Seth. Why. Every time I read his POV and see his regrets makes me want to sympathize with him but his actions are just not it. I know heโs trying but he genuinely doesnโt try hard enough. But whatever.
Also. Am I possibly seeing a Caleb and Seth thing happening??? I know Caleb is straight but they keep bringing up the kiss they had and the tension? And little things here and there? I donโt know if itโll actually turn into anything but Iโm here for it.
Orion was actually so funny in this book. His POV is always so funny for no reason and I actually am really liking him. Interesting.
The romance. Omg. I actually am very much liking the sweet dynamic of Orion and Darcy. Theyโre very much in love and itโs super sweet to see.
Darius and Tory oh my god. Theyโre officially one of my top OTPs. The angst. The scenes of love and hatred. Everything about them. I canโt get too into details because of spoilers, but the end. Noooooo. Itโs tragic and the love confessions and hatred confessions and everything is just so well written and I canโt๐ญ๐ญ
Also can I say how good the smut is? I usually find it very awkward to read, mostly because of the scenes commenting on how wet or hard each other is (like??? Ew). But in this series? Itโs not awkward with cheesy lines and weird comments. Itโs actually well written and pretty darn hot. Darius and Tory having 2 smut scenes finally !!!! But after the end of this ๐ญ well. Iโm glad they could have that sort of happiness.

๐ Professor Orion and Boyfriend Orion hit so different but the point is THEY BOTH HIT. I also love Orion and Tory's sibling-like relationship skbldbwibwq he is so dynamic this dude can't miss. He is the loudest, most dramatic asshole teacher just shouting and strutting about but then when he's around Blue he just melts.... I mean the way he adores her ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ And how they're always playing around with each other-- ie when she was turning into a bunny rabbit and Orion was lowkey into it lmao I love them
๐ Moving on from one OTP to another, show me a couple that brings out the worst in each other the way Tory and Darius do. Show me two people who shouldn't be together more than them. Show me a dynamic that is more of a broken record. And show me a person who appreciates it the way I do! I love these two toxic idiots. After the explosive ending of The Reckoning, I couldnโt wait to jump into this fourth book and see how Darcy and Tory would deal with the revelation of their order and their new shadow powers. The nymphs are still a threat to the Realm, and the Heirs are more determined than ever to get rid of the Vegas now that they know they could pose a real threat to โtheirโ throne. Add to that the fact that the twins and Orion now believe that Clara is still alive but stuck in the shadow realm and they made it their mission to find a way to rescue her and letโs just say that poor Darcy and Tory didnโt have time to catch their breath.
The plot is good, and for a 700 pages book, the pace is surprisingly good and steady throughout the book. Even when nothing really important was happening, I was compelled to continue reading, simply because I needed to know more, and I needed to know what would happen to the twins and their love or potential love interests.โBecause weโre the same you and me. Both fucked up, broken pieces on a game board thatโs bigger than we can cope with. Both hoping to find some way of winning despite the odds being stacked against us all the damn time. Both addicted to things that push our boundaries and make us feel alive. Because at the end of the day, even feeling the worst of things is better than feeling nothing at all.โ

Tory and Dariusโ relationship continues to be a great mix of hate, anger, and sexual tension, and it reaches new heights in this book. It was so intense at times, and I loooooooooved it! The ending though? It killed me a little bit. While I fully understand Toryโs reasoning, I wanted to slap her repeatedly because I feel that most of her decision comes from a logical place, but a part of it also comes from her tendency to sabotage herself and that annoys me. She kept pushing people away in this book and she was her own enemy. On the other hand, this will definitely add some angst between her and Darius in the next book (who am I kidding, A LOT OF ANGST), and the angst-lover in me is very excited about that. Darius showed that he was not 100% an asshole, and while he was super mean to the twins, I believe he deserves much better than his life right now.โYou made the last few months the happiest of my life, Darcy Vega. Iโm sorry for being an asshole when we first met โ biggest regret of my life.โ

While Tory annoyed me, I fell even more in love with Darcy. She was so strong and grew a lot in the bookโs second half. She was pushed to her limits, always fought back, and found a way to remain strong. I am not saying that Tory wasnโt strong here, but from the start, Tory has been the one who was louder and who was standing up more often for her sister and herself, so it was nice to see that Darcy also has that fire and that determination in her when she is pushed. Also, her relationship with Lance is adorable. I really like them together, and while I know they have a hard road in front of them, I also know that they will end up being okay because there is no way these two donโt end up together with a HEA right? RIIIIIIIGHT???????โI donโt have a better answer than that right now, itโs just speculation. But Iโll look into it.โ

A huge crash sounded, followed by the sound of splintering wood and I screamed as my eyes snapped open and my door was blasted right off of its hinges. I scrambled upright, throwing a shield of air up around me in a panic just as a blur shot into my room.
โYouโre late for cheer practice, Miss Vega!โ Orion boomed, his eyes sparkling with excitement as he looked down at me.
โWhat the fuck?โ I gasped as I scrambled upright and yanked my headphones off. โAre you insane?โ
โIt has been suggested before,โ he agreed with a dark laugh.
Also, Orion starting to warm up to Tory is cute. I desperately want them to become friends, which might be hard for now since Lance is still being an asshole to every student except Darcy and Darius, but we'll get there someday. I NEED them to become friends. Tory would benefit from having another true and reliable friend, and Lance needs more friends too.We all started laughing just as a flash of movement caught the corner of my eye. A pineapple hit Seth square in the face and knocked him flying off of his seat with a curse. Darius got up and offered him a hand as laughter rang out around the room.
โDetention, Capella!โ Orion barked. โYou were warned.โ
โWe could ask him.โ
โYeah, I donโt think heโd tell me jack shit,โ Seth said. โHe just broke my nose with a pineapple.โ

Oh Seth... Itโs a good thing heโs a fictional character because otherwise, I would have the obligation to find him just so I could kick him in the nuts. Heโs always been a jerk to the twins and was taking pleasure in making them miserable, but he pushed it even further in this book and I HATE him for it. Still, I feel potential for a good redemption arc for him because we can see that heโs starting to feel bad for the things heโs doing to Darcyโฆ he has a looooooooooooong way to go for me to start to tolerate him, but I am honestly hoping he will be heading this way, because once he stops his shit, I have a feeling that he could be a good ally to Darcy since a part of him obviously cares a tiny bit for her, and he has the werewolf protective side. Itโs just tough on my poor heart because every time I see his regret, I want to be empathetic, but then he turns around and starts being an ass again and he ruins everything.โDid you just call your vagina Lady Petunia?โ I choked.
Darcy covered her mouth to hold back her laughter and Sofia was actually crying real tears.
โAlas I did. And sheโs a real predator when she sets her gaze on a tempting piece of banana drama,โ Geraldine admitted.

We got to see Maxโs softer side a few times in this book thanks to his new obsession with Geraldine, and I like this side of him. He could do so much good with his order gift, and it was hinted in the boysโ retelling that he was sweet deep down, but had to put up the jerk faรงade because he was an heir, even if he didnโt like how it made him feel. Seeing him running after Geraldine and seeing Geraldine flip him off with her weird insults was AMAZING. I was smiling like a mad woman every time she put him back in his place and reminded him that just because he's a sexy Heir, doesnโt mean he can get whomever he wants. Geraldine is such a great secondary character, I like her almost as much as Darcy, and I like that the twins (ok, mostly Darcy) are realizing how lucky they are to have such a devoted and true friend that will always have their back and fight to the end for them no matter what.

I am not sure what will be happening to him now that he will be forced to get over Toryโฆ While he never implied that he is bi, they keep bringing up the kiss between Seth and him that happened a few months ago, and Seth definitely wouldnโt be opposed to having โsomethingโ going on with Caleb, so maybe this is where itโs going to end upโฆ I hope he finds someone that makes him happy because while he was also a jerk to the twins, he tried his best to stay out of it, most of the time. I am not saying that he is blameless, just that he seems to care a little bit more about the twinsโฆ Well okay, he cares more about Tory because sheโs his source and heโs banging her, but stillโฆ I have a feeling that he is more compassionate than he lets on.

Did I just stop the fourth ZA book in less than a month? Yes.
Will I ever stop multishipping? Never.
Do I need therapy? Probably. -
I still love the series and I'll definitely continue with it.
That doesn't mean I don't have a couple of things to say about it.
This book wasn't my favorite in the series for sure. I thought I'd enjoy it more than I did. It felt like two books in one, not because it's super long (which it is) but because the buildup for the first part comes to an end in the middle, and then it's like we're starting another book.
- It was one of the funniest reads of my life. There are some scenes that made me laugh so hard I was crying. Really. Too hilarious.
- The sad parts didn't hit me as hard. It just doesn't feel like it's permanent, you know? The book ends on a cliffhanger so you NEED to run for book 5 and see what happens, but I already know pretty confidently that everything will be solved at the beginning of the next book. Of course, then they'll throw more pain at us, and we'll see how that one sticks to me. For now, I'm just not worried ๐
*SPOILER WARNING FOR THIS BOOK*
- I'm not into the mate thing. I've read it times and times again, how two people who hate each other end up being mates, and I feel like I've read enough of it. Here, it just seems off. Darius confessing his eternal love for Tory felt a little out of character to me. He was literally begging her, which regardless of the situation doesn't seem like something Darius would do. Unless the story ends up actually keeping Tory and Darius apart (which I don't think it will), it all just feels like a ploy to hurt us. If I bought into the "we'll never be together" crap then it would be a splendid, heart-shattering-into-a-billion-pieces breath of fresh air. Do you imagine? Mates who don't end up together. I would be happy if I actually believed it. But I don't. So I'm not.
- I liked to read more about the twins' interactions with the heirs. The scene with the snow fight was a favorite.
- Geraldine quicks ass. Her relationship with Max throughout the book was just fantastic. She had him like a little puppy begging for attention.
- Tory was annoying as fuck. The whole "addicted to the shadows" thing really didn't sit well with me. It's so sad because she was one of my favorite characters, but she truly annoyed me with her angry attitude, the way she treated her sister through most of the book, and the horribly irresponsible choices she made regarding the shadows. It just seemed like as a clever girl she would see that those were dangerous things she was getting into. I understand that some characters need some sort of regressing character arc, but it needs to feel natural in a way, it needs to be convincing. This wasn't. And here there was something off. There was just something off okay?
- I don't like misunderstandings and miscommunication in books, and here they were really dumb. It felt like if Darcy and Tory had just talked, there wouldn't have been a fight between them. I mean, Tory found out about Darcy and Orion and no consequences came from that... so why couldn't she just have known sooner? Duh.
- Darcy and Orion were my favorite part of the book. Their relationship is super cute and I'm sure we'll see more of them. Yeah, Orion will be fine. You think you can trick me, but I know he'll be fine. I know. -

This book is 220k words long, but it didn't feel like that AT ALL - I tore through it in a day without massively sacrificing my other commitments. Not sure how that happened. Maybe I fell into a time warp...
The heroines were more irritating than they usually are in this one. I thought Tory forgave Darcy way too easily for lying to her, and Tory's stubbornness is starting to grate (but I still prefer her to Darcy). I'm most sad about the fact that I really like Caleb, and I knew I was going to get my heart broken because this is a love triangle and he wasn't going to be the winner, but it still hurts.
This is why I started reading reverse harem... but anyway. I digress.
The plot makes leaps and bounds of progression in this novel compared to the previous ones, though it always surprises me how little interest the twins actually seem to have in researching their Order. Like, if I were them I'd go and devour every book on it in the library, but they're just chilling.
Very, very horrible cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next one, though I suspect the angst content will be ratcheted up.

Because things are just as bad as ever between the Heirs and the twins, the tension is thick enough to cut through it with a knife and the romantic situation is a roller-coaster. Not to mention the devilish Lionel who lurks in the shadows (literally and not really). So be ready for tons of drama, a devastating Halloween, a Royal Christmas and secrets being spilled. You're in for quite a ride. When you think you've hit rock bottom things will start getting better, only to utterly tear you apart with that ending.

The characters
First of all let me tell you how much I love Xavier, Geraldine and, a new addition to the amazing side characters: Gabriel Nox, the new Tarot Teacher and Orion's old friend and Nebular Ally. I love him and the instant warmth he and the twins share and he's such a total sweetheart and badass at the same time. May I convince you with 3 quotes?

I used to really like the scenes between Caleb and Tory, but now it's even more obvious they are far from endgame and they have no future. The whole situation just became confusing and a bit annoying. Caleb is one of my favorites, but he can't seem to know what he really wants from Tory and again, they sooooo clearly don't match. But I did love the teasing and jealousy between the two Heirs when it came to her and I particularly enjoyed the scene from the Christmas table. That got me laughing with tears.
"Caleb might not have been the best choice for me, but he made a lot of damn good points. Besides, if he succeeded in making me forget about Darius I was all for it because that asshole had hurt me too many times for me to be looking at him the way I did sometimes."

Their entire relationship is a hot and cold game. You think things are fine and they shatter the next moment. You think they are going to kill each other and they end up all over one another in the hottest way possible (THAT waterfall scene and that throne room scene killed me).
"Because I couldnโt keep trying with her and having it thrown back in my face. So if she wanted us to hate each other then Iโd just have to play my part in it. Because I couldnโt keep away from her, that much was becoming abundantly clear. So Iโd just have to keep being her villain."
This love hate thing theyโve got is burning me and my patience, but one thing I can say about them is they know how to repay you for your suffering with some scenes. Another thing I wasn't expecting was for me to be soooo totally team Darius. Not only that he was decent, but he actually left himself vulnerable at times and my heart just melted. Tory, on the other hand, was a total bitch.
โI donโt want you on your knees. I want you fighting me and hating me and fucking me like you mean it. Youโre Roxanya Vega and you werenโt built to bow to anyone,โ he growled passionately.
โYou want me to hate you?โ I asked in surprise.ย
โI want you to feel for me. And Iโll take hate if thatโs all youโre offering.โ
I'm dying to see what will happen with them in the next book, especially after that ending.

I loved them enormously. After the night with the Moon party, Geraldine and Max have totally different expectations. Max gets obsessed with her, while the A.S.S and sass queen couldnโt care less. And watching him get constantly rejected in the funniest ways possible keeps lightening the tension that this book built up.
โMy Lady Petunia set her gaze on a rather virile Siren and he fell prey to her amorous adventures.โ
โDid you just call your vagina Lady Petunia?โ I choked.
โAlas I did. And sheโs a real predator when she sets her gaze on a tempting piece of banana drama,โ Geraldine admitted.
Geraldine is so strangely funny and yet so devoted to the twins and their cause that, even though I've liked her before, this book made me truly love her.
โBesides, Lady Petunia has danced with many courtiers this week. How on the moon would I even remember what your floppy spatula looked like?โ
โIt wasnโt floppy!โ Max snapped. โAnd hang on a second, are you saying youโve fucked a bunch of dudes since me? Itโs only been a week!โ

This conversation between Darius and Xavier totally cracked me up. And the Halloween party was also pretty savage. And the entire Christmas with the Heirs and the twins. And the interviews the two girls gave... There are plenty of moments that will melt you, enrage you, totally kill you and then make you laugh and scream in frustration or total surprise.
โFucking hell,โ Darius complained. โIf she doesnโt jump on him in the next five seconds Iโm pretty sure the rest of the class will.โย
โI think I just fell in love with Geraldine Grus,โ I joked as Maxโs forehead furrowed with concentration.ย
Someone threw their panties at him and another girl started unbuttoning her shirt as she strode across the room with intention.ย
โThatโs enough, thank you very much, Mr Rigel!โ Orion called. โI donโt want to fill out the paperwork that would be required to explain why half of my class descended into a sex party.โ
Oh, and did I mention how I loved that Tory was forced into a cheerleader and Darcy had to try out for Pitball?!
โLooking good, little Vega,โ Max called as they drew in on us. โI hope youโre practicing chants with my name in them.โ
โOh yeah of course I have been,โ I replied brightly, shaking my pom-poms at him. โMax! Max! His hairโs so shiny. Itโs just a shame his dickโs so tiny!โ

As good as this series is, I genuinely hope the Heirs and the twins will work together at some point because their hate game is getting tiring. So are Tory's constant mood swings ๐ช -
This one was intense; full of love but also heartbreak and bad decisions. With every book I have less hatred and more pity towards the Heirs, especially Darius.
I think I figured out why am I so drawn to this series. In my usual romance reading routine I just enjoy book boyfriends and butterflies. Here the butterflies are rather scarce but it's Darcy and Tory with their unbreakable spirit that keep me going.
There were some parts that I didn't exactly love though. The first thing is we have more and more of Geraldine Grus. She is a good girl, but her supposedly funny figurative language is annoying af. I'm sorry, I had to say it.
The second thing - Darius and Tory were so blind and stupid it was painful to read. I felt like banging their heads together repeatedly. Pardon my French, but fucking morons!!!
And what the f is this ending?? I didn't expect saccharine happy but c'mon!! ๐ญ๐ซ๐ -

this was my least favorite so far.
TORY. I love you girl, but on this book???? I absolutely hated you. The thing at the end I GET IT, but OH MY GOD. MY POOR BABY.
Now, the real stars in this book were my parents. Darcy and Orion. Literally the 3 stars are only for them. Oh and my baby Darius ofc. (I love you baby.)
Fuck Seth and Max. I admit the storyline with Geraldine is great and all, but the dudeโs still awful. Seth is still an asshole. I was starting to like him. I donโt fcking care he โfeels badโ sometimes. I hate him.
Caleb... take a fcking hint bro. The date was awful and that was the best thing ever.
CLARA I FUCKING KNEW IT YOU STUPID FUCKING BITCH. I HATE YOU.
There were some great moments here (like the snow fight๐ฅบ๐ค), but for the most part it was angst plus angst plus angst. It was a lot from everywhere. They got me where it hurt, with the twins. That shit scarred me. I really fucking hope the next one is better. And I REALLY really fucking hope, tory stops being such a stupid stubborn bitch, cause I donโt know if I canโt take it for another long ass book. (also pls stop hooking up with caleb thanks)
p.s. This one is longer and I still didnโt feel the pages. Love that.
