Unf*ck Your Anxiety: Using Science to Rewire Your Anxious Brain Reviews
-
This was a very helpful and educating book!! Personally, i've done some years of therapy in the past, so i knew some things that were said in this book, but i still learned some new things, were reminded of some others, and were given some tips and ideas about journaling my feelings, my anxiety and techniques that help me! Definitely recommend it, not only for people with anxiety disorder but generally for those that have a hard/unpleasant time with their stress and want to find effective and healthy ways to cope

This was fairly informative I guess. I really have no way to measure it, and it is what it purports to be on the tin, seemingly.
-
This book was so disappointing. I paid to purchase it on Audible after reading "Unf*** Your Brain" and "Your Brain on Anxiety" by the same author because I found them so useful. Unfortunately this book was mostly compiled of chapters from the previous two books I already read!! Would highly recommend just reading the "Your Brain on Anxiety" book that is FREE on Audible since 50% of this book is a repeat of chapters from that book.

A quick and easy read that doesn’t f*ck around :)

-
A nice condensed book of tips, humor and a lot of scientific speak.
-
Incredibly insightful and entertaining.
-
Absolutely adore Faith and her writing! Being able to learn so much in such an easy way is everything I've ever wanted.
They way she wrote feels like a conversation. Funny, relateable and easy to understand. Absolutely yes!!!
Count how many F-bombs she drops in her books I dare you -
Didn't like the fowl language but the science was really interesting
-
Read The audio version and not the workbook version. Very interesting read.

I loved this book and found the way that the author explained anxiety to be very interesting. I also thought the techniques they offered were very helpful. I would recommend this book to any anxious person or someone who’s trying to understand someone with anxiety.

Faith has the ability to turn something that is still seen as taboo by many people into something real, without making you feel like there’s something wrong with you, and sorry – there’s just no hope for you.
We all feel anxiety for different reasons, and sometimes those reasons are unknown to us. We’re triggered by something, sometimes something we can’t even pinpoint in that very moment, and we go downhill from there. The audiobook has an entertainment value, even for such a morbid subject and is very insightful. I love the introduction of different explanations to understand why we feel anxiety and about the types of anxieties, we actually know very little about. The techniques offered to help are great and there were some that even surprised me and helped when I felt anxiety take over a few times.
I’ll keep recommending her books on my blog because they have a no-bullshit approach, aren’t condescending and unlike many self-help books I’ve listened to, are actually useful.

Content - The content focus on simplifying anxiety for those who want to understand what they are going through. By simplifying the history and treatment paths of anxiety disorder, this read was easy to follow as a support worker and has given me more insight into the importance of alternative options other than medications.
Audio Quality - Good, listened via audible.
Overall - Was a good listen, simple to follow along with.
Recommendation - . Recommend to anyone wanting a basic understanding of anxiety and how it affects the body and mind. -
As an individual with anxiety who is wanting to understand it better, I didn't feel like I got any information that I didn't already know. I was disappointed with how short some sections were. I was hoping to hear more about the types of medications but that section barely touched on anything other than how long one to two types of med are recommended to be on. Some of the information was insightful, but at the end of it I just felt underwhelmed and like I was just left without any new knowledge. The language and casualty throughout the book was also very bothersome to me.

Awesome 😎👍💯

I found this very informative, with a hint of humour. Very enjoyable in audio form.
-
Great education on how anxiety works and practical, relatable solutions that explain the HOW and WHY. Definitely a good one for the overthinkers.
-
Eh.
-
Shallow. Not useful for someone who actually has anxiety .
-
I can’t believe I finished this. What an awful concept. I would not recommend. Basic stuff with extra swearing. This could have been done well. It wasn’t.
-
The book was ok, but the Audible version was like hearing Siri try to sound hip & relevant. A total mis-match.

This is a decent book, does what it's supposed to do.
I didn't exact love it, but I didn't at all dislike it. I didn't love it, I think, because I'm not it's intended audience for two reasons:
1, this is aimed at people who may be experiencing anxiety but don't have a ton of info, so it's like a crash course on helping people to understand what they're experiencing and how to deal with it; I work in the human services field and have many, many clients with anxiety and so a lot of this is just stuff I already know; also, as someone who has dealt with anxiety for many years to some degree, this is stuff I've already put into practice for myself
2, it's clever and cute and edgy and full of profanity and while that would certainly have appealed to me at one point in my life, I'm at a point where I just don't always love that anymore, even if I can totally appreciate where it's coming from and why it's useful.
So I'm not totally the target audience, but that doesn't mean it's not a good book. Reading it, I kept thinking of people who I think would really, truly benefit from this, and so I'm glad it's out there, and I will recommend it to people who want my recommendations. It's a nice primer, an overview of all things (or at least lots of things) related to anxiety. A reassurance, a starter kit for building an action plan, etc.
Short, definitely worth the read, and I will probably read some of her other books as well. Glad this exists. -
Much better than the last book of hers I read (Unf*ck your Brain)--I actually took away some techniques rom this one that I will try to incorporate into my life/work so as not to be such a wreck all the time. Her swearing dies down the further you get into it, as if she forgot that she was trying to be "edgy" and "cool" and she just starts talking to you like a human being.
I think this book works better as an audio book than as an actual paper read, as she coaches you through some techniques right then and there, and I feel like they hit better when you hear them spoken aloud. (Also, I have a tendency to doze off while actually reading self help books; something about all the big words and medicinal techniques that just knocks me right out.)
An overall improvement. 3/5 -
I liked it. I'm trained in hard science, but I also feel drawn to the "woo" so this book fills a niche in CAM treatments. Some treatments that were described, I was trained as having no basis in science (that is, individual studies might suggest some response but the bulk of literature suggests that it doesn't), but I still felt like this was a fair, easy to read book that didn't usually stray too far from hard science. I would consider recommending it to select clients with caveats about particular methods

There was a lot I didn't know about anxiety that is explained here in the book.
What was nice:
- Not all anxiety is the same, there are many connections that I have not yet thought about so that was good to discover
- Clear and easy to understand and good introduction and overview to the whole topic
What I didn't like:
- What is positive is also negative at the same time, it is just an overview and who really wants to know more about anxiety or needs concrete help certainly needs to look at other books -
Admission: I forgot why I had hated her other book, “Unf**k Your Life” so much. It wasn’t long into this travesty ( which is basically a chapter of the bigger book) before I remembered. Anyone who can tout chiropractic care, reki healing and other such obvious quackery is not qualified to have a book on a serious medical condition published without a giant BULLSHIT warning. The language is a silly and overused gimmick. Not a serious effort (at best) and a dangerous promotion of quackery (at its worst).

After reading Unfuck Your Anxiety, I have changed my mind about the author and the advice they give. In that book she expands on her book "This is your brain on Anxiety", which shows the unsafe and pseudoscience she believes in and promotes. It's frustrating to have anxiety and always be told eat this of take that go to a chiropractor. Please note chiropractors are proven to be dangerous, I mean just look at the guy who invented it. Yeah fuck this book, it will fuck you up more.
