  Here's a reasonably entertaining graphic novel that tells the story of The Karate Kid from the point of view of Johnny Lawrence. There are some nice new editions to the story, but too much of it is just a retelling of the original Karate Kid film. This seems more like a way to cash in on the success of the new Cobra Kai TV series than anything original. Probably better to spend your time watching this superb series instead.

  I don't think this particular segment of the story is served by a graphic novel format; it loses that really interesting unreliable narrator dynamic they achieved in the Netflix show. It also doesn't add any emotional depth to the Johnny character. The artwork is good though.

  I'm not sure what the audience for this is. It's just a written rehash of information from the show, so if you've seen it, you don't need to read it, and it doesn't bother establishing any of the characters not native to the movies or relating the plot re-up, so if you haven't seen it, it doesn't make much sense.

  I'm not really sure what people are complaining about. It was never meant to be a "new" story.
  Personally, I've really enjoyed seeing one of my all-time favourite movies made into a graphic novel.

  Honestly, I was expecting this to have more backstory/lead up to the 1984 All Valley tournament, giving us stronger context for why Johnny is the way he is and his motivations. Unfortunately, it was more just recreating the scenes from the movie (and maybe the tv show? I'm not sure, I haven't seen all of it yet) without really adding much new to the narrative. That being said, it wasn't like there were no illuminating facts about Johnny, just very few. Unfortunately though it wasn't enough. Johnny's driving forces felt flat--which is probably a bigger comment on the movie itself lol--but still, I was hoping for some better, deeper character work here and didn't really get it.
  
  Also, you can tell this was made more in a rush or possibly without a lot of oversight. There was at least one spelling mistake and timeline error. And though the art was really nice, the character designs for Ali and Daniel were... a little lacking. If you had shown me almost any one of the panels with zero context I probably wouldn't have been able to guess who they were supposed to be :/
  
  Still, if you're a big Karate Kid and/or Cobra Kai fan (or maybe you just really like Billy Zabka 👀I know you're out there), and you don't mind basically buying the first movie condensed and repackaged as a graphic novel, and/or to add to your sick ass TKK/CK collection, then it's definitely worth it. If you're a more casual fan, I'd definitely recommend checking this out at a library or borrowing it from someone.

  Ahora que ha conseguido alumnos y ha logrado hacer de ellos unos verdaderos cobras muy "a la antigua" enseñanza del sensei Kreese.
  
  Así que veremos las mismas escenas de la película de Karate Kid contada desde la perspectiva de quién siempre se ha considerado el villano.

  As a big fan of both the Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai, I really loved seeing Johnny’s P.O.V. of some moments in the original movie. I also loved seeing a few extra scenes that really piece Johnny’s life together.

  2.5 stars. I would have loved more of Johnny’s perspective; the parts that were not on screen. There was a little bit of that with showing his family life. It would have been cool to see him training.

  All the narrated facts appeard in Cobra Kai. Is a good reminder of how Johnny Lawrence turned in the man we see mistaking constantly and the great "bully" of Daniel LaRusso.
  Johnny is my favorite character in Karate Kid and it just increases reading and watching Cobra Kai.

  The story as we know it. The art work was ok, apart from Daniel who looked a little wonky. Really enjoyed the ”fight” sounds. Bif, Fwp, Bish and Boonk.

  Vi a série antes de ler a HQ e ainda bem que fiz isso, do contrário não teria animado pra assistir a série. Achei que a HQ não adiciona praticamente nada à narrativa do primeiro filme, só vale talvez pela nostalgia de rever partes das cenas ali retratadas. Acho que a série da Netflix conseguiu efetivamente humanizar o Johnny e fazer contrapontos interessantes de como dependendo das escolhas e das ferramentas que a pessoa tem, ela pode ser justa com algumas pessoas e injusta com outras, pode agir certo em algumas situações e errar em outras. E isso eu acho interessante, porque na vida real todos temos momentos de vilão e de mocinho, não somos 100% bons ou maus.

  I enjoyed this graphic novel retelling of The Karate Kid with scenes from Cobra Kai splashed in. Is Johnny the good guy? Hell no he isn't. But I do like him better than Daniel on the Cobra Kai show but he's still trash. Enjoyed the art work in this.
