Not while I’m my mom’s sole caretaker.
But the Carolina Reapers offer me a deal I can’t refuse:
A spot on their roster and top-rated support for my mom’s battle with Parkinson’s.
Balancing an NHL schedule and my mother’s care fills every minute of my day,
But one glance at Scythe’s bartender, and I’m looking for ways to make time.
Echo Hayes is my exact opposite: she’s wild—I’m reserved. She’s fearless—I’m careful.
She’s a 1 a.m. last call, and I’m a 7 a.m. practice.
On paper, we shouldn’t work.
But in reality, our chemistry burns hotter than these Charleston nights.
We’ve agreed to no-strings,
But every taste leaves me wanting more.
And more is where she draws the line.
The past haunts her, and my obligations own my present.
But it doesn’t stop me from wanting a future with her.
Our worlds are drastically different—
And when they collide?
The fallout jeopardizes my contract, and puts our hearts on the line.
Now I’m the one begging her to risk it all—
Or we’ll lose everything worth fighting for.
Welcome to the Carolina Reapers, Samantha Whiskey’s newest hockey series where the chill of the ice meets sultry southern nights.

And another....
I wanted sawyers story from the first time his character was introduced! This was better than I could have imagined!!!! -
Once again, love the Hero, Sawyer this time. Echo was likeable. However the theme here appears to be heroines with major insecurities. That's the negative for me. I'll give this series one more try (Ha! maybe I'm a glutton for punishment or I've been couped up at home for so many weeks now that I'm a little crazed, bored, what day is it?). So here we go again, fingers crossed, the next heroine has her shit together.
-
Love this spin off series. Sawyer was truly husband-worthy and had deceptively wicked moves! Swoon.
I like Echo but sometimes she tried my patience. ..
Still a great read!
5 stars -
After meeting with some of the Carolina Reapers in the first book of the series, I was glad to see them again in SAWYER. This time, they welcome a young goalie who wants to make big in the NHL but has fucked up his first call. Sawyer is a nice guy, all out to help his sick mother, but also a bad motherfucker. He’s always been the one to help, so it’s a nice change when he meets Echo, who’s going to keep him afloat when nerves go wild.
It’s an instant friendship, with lots of heat. The book starts a bit as a slow burn, but everything is quickly swept away once the characters kiss. Damn that kiss. It’s like they have sex with their mouth. After that, and because neither is ready for a relationship, they settle on being casual. You can guess that feelings won’t stay away for long.
I really enjoyed the struggle of Sawyer when he becomes a NHL player. Samantha Whiskey is good when she writes about his fears and insecurities.
She does well too with the side story that brings the angst in the relationship: Echo’s ex coming back, decided to fuck with her life to get her back. It brings some tension between all the characters.
So yeah, it’s a good hockey romance, and I can’t wait to meet again with the Reapers.

- Echo’s backstory felt a bit too much -
Samantha Whiskey is on a game-winning streak with Sawyer (Carolina Reapers #2). I was really looking forward to Sawyer McCoy’s story. We first meet Sawyer in the Seattle Sharks series. He was a goalie at the University of Washington. He was the roommate of Faith Gentry (Wheeler, Seattle Sharks #8) and Harper Thompson (Defender, Seattle Sharks #9).
Sawyer is a loveable character. He has taken care of his mother who has Parkenson’s since he was fifteen. He is a really good guy, who hasn’t had things go his way. Now he is finally given the opportunity to have his dream come true and play in the NHL.
Sawyer first met Scythe’s bartender, Echo Hayes, in book one, Axel. This is their story. The two seem like opposites, but they truly work together. Their chemistry is combustible.
I love Samantha Whiskey’s writing style. I have enjoyed every book that I have read by her. They are skillfully-written and thought-provoking. I recommend this book to people who enjoy sports romances. It can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading the books I mentioned in my review first to appreciate Sawyer’s character. Plus, they’re awesome books, so you should read them anyway. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. -
Yay!! As hoped Sawyer secures a contract with an NHL team.
Sawyer is the second 'Reaper' to have his story and as always Samantha Whiskey never disappoints.
We've met Sawyer in previous novels as the college roommate of Faith and Harper and we have grown to love him and his commitment to looking after his poorly mother.
We also know Echo from 'Axel' the debut novel in this series.
Their story to HEA is so sweet and there is no doubt that Echo was in need of someone that would break down her beliefs in regards to relationships and love. I did grow to love her, despite feeling that, at times, she was incredibly needy!
All in all, a good addition to the series and another appetiser of what's to come. -
Sawyer and Echo were cute.. They had they're moments of insanity (i.e. read stupidity) but worked themselves out.
*spoiler*.spoilers.. but not really
There is a surprise pregnancy but being that is wasn't used to drive the plot I won't complain about it.
Yeah they were cute but didn't stand out to me but it's worth the read. -

J'avoue qu'après avoir rencontré Echo, j'avais hâte de la voir tomber sous le charme de Sawyer ... Et comme d'habitude avec cette série, une romance sexy et légère qui m'a fait rire et crier xD

I must admit that after meeting Echo I couldn't wait to see her fall in love with Sawyer ... and as usual with this series, a sexy and light romance that made me laugh and scream xD -

I'm feeling so content right now.
Every time I read Samantha's work I want to skip adulting and just devour her book. So I did exactly that today. I'm not even sorry- it was so totally worth it.
This lady has some serious voodoo magic in her books that makes me love every single one of the guys- again, I'm not sorry. They are all totally swoon worthy and give me ALL THE FEELS.
Echo, I think she is one of my favourite heroines. Feisty, smart, gorgeous and a little crazy. Her random facts and banter with Sawyer had me grinning like a kid in a candy store and at one point I even spat my coffee everywhere 😂
If you haven't figured it out yet, I freaking LOVED it. -
You ever read something and try your best to immerse yourself, yet, you’re still disconnected? That’s how I felt reading this. I’m such a sucker for a hockey romance. I noticed this is a series with companion novels, aka my fav! But, I have yet to fall in love.
I did skip book one. A few weeks ago, I tried to get into it. I only made it 2 chapters, and I gave up. I think after I read book 3, I’ll try book 1. The Seattle Sharks series has a bunch, so I’ll probably read that one too.
This is a really popular author, so I think I just have to gain some more momentum. -
I really liked that this one had Sawyer in it and that he was able to fulfill his dream. In the last book he had that one game he was on contract for, which was great for him. But you have to worry, was it better to have that one game or nothing? I'm glad that Sawyer didn't have to really find out, that he was included in tryouts when the team needed a goalie again. He didn't automatically get the job, he had to prove that he was the best person for the job.
In getting the job, Sawyer got to be closer to his college friends, who are all wives of other players on the team. By hanging out with the ladies he his introduced to Echo, the bartender at their favorite bar. Sawyer and Echo really hit it off, you can see the chemistry and hope they go for it. While things start out slow for them it doesn't take long before they are all in, even if one of them doesn't really want to be. Despite their odd schedules they make things work and it's only when things become a bit too real and past hurts come into play that finds them having issues. Neither of them is the best as talking things out and both needed pushes from friends, but they do finally get things worked out and allow themselves to live their lives happy, something they both deserve. -
I loved Echo in the previous book, with her no-nonsense attitude and Sawyer was the sweet guy who always puts everyone before himself. When they came together there was heat, passion and sparks! In this book Echo did get frustrating at times, her big thing that everyone with leave, she needed someone to give her a swift kick! I did love how she managed to calm down Sawyer when he was getting to much in his head and carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. In the end I did love that Sawyer was able to break down Echo's beliefs, while Echo was able to get Sawyer to focus on himself for a bit. Their HEA worked out great for them!

Sawyer by Samantha Whisky is a hockey sports romance that follows the story of Sawyer and Echo. This is the second book in the Carolina Reapers series, which is a spin-off to the Seattle Sharks series.
Sawyer and Echo have both seen their fair share of tragedy, loss and heartache, which is why they decided to keep things simple - friends with benefits, not feelings. Unfortunately that little plan doesn’t go the way either thought when their feelings most definitely become involved.
This story ticks the sports romance box and adds in opposites attract. -
friends with benefits is not my fav trope

3.5⭐️
a couple in big need of ✨therapy✨ -
It was ok. Just felt like a generic contemporary cloaked as sports romance.
-
I love Sawyer and Echo. Actually all the main reapers. I love the little Easter eggs about the guys the future books will be about. It’s like I’m already in love with them.
-
I love this series! It’s fun to see the characters interacting from book to book. This book is about working hard to achieve your goals.

Love
I love these hockey players. The closeness of the team members, the family feel of it. The woman who are always what these guys need.
I adored Sawyer and Echo -

Sawyer McCoy lives in, Seattle. Doing the right thing, for his mom has always come first. Since the day his dad walked out when he is fifteen. Sawyer’s drug-addicted father chose the drugs over, the two of them. Upon finding out, his mom has stage four Parkinson's. He had to put his mom in a care facility to go to college, play hockey, maintain physical training, and a job. To keep the house he got roommates Faith and Harper. Harper is the owner, Asher Silas of the Reapers Hockey Team, Arena & Equipment, she’s his sister. She is now married to a Reaper Nathan Noble. Faith is now married, to a Reaper Lukas Vestergaard.
Because of his fierce loyalty, to his mother, he tried endlessly, to make it onto the Seattle Sharks as a goalie, but they kept passing him up. In the last book, we got, to see the Reapers make a call for him, to be the one-day-only backup goalie for them. However, his friend had them add a clause. If he plays even one second, and they need a goalie he automatically gets, to try out. Since he played for twenty-eight seconds, he gets a call when Fields, their backup goalie, goes down. Leaving the aging, Thurston is slow at his glove and has sluggish skating and mediocre reaction time. A legend for sure, however, even great legends age. He gets the call.
Let's just say, the guys on the team want, Sawyer. Lukas sends his private plane, to bring him, to Carolina. There is a car, to pick him up, and, Langley the team captain's wife, has arranged for him, to stay at her old apartment that is, right across the street from the arena. Axel has kept out of her, and, Faith’s arrangements all due, to fear of nepotism because the tryouts need, to be on the up, and up. There is a three-hour difference, meaning it’s early back home. So, he goes to the bar the team went to after his one day as a Reaper. There he once again finds the firey bartender, Echo Hayes. West Coast and East Coast are back together in the same bar, yet neither feels they are worthy of more.
This is a story of a man at the brink of greatness, in a career he has been working towards, since a tween. But, he has been so, weighted down with adult things, he doesn’t know how to put, himself first. So, his new family does. Then, there is the sassy bartender, who knows nothing, but, heartache and the loneliness of abandonment. All three of her family members have passed, over time leaving her tank empty of, fuel for love and relationships. Since her bar is, the Reapers’ bar of choice, she has become friends with, their ladies. Sheer fate brings them together, but, pure love holds them together. -
Awesome! I loved this one! I love the fact we get to see new characters along with some of the old characters from the previous collection Seattle Sharks!
I couldn't wait to read about Sawyer. I almost started to read his story when he was first introduced with Faith and Harper. I am so glad I waited. Sawyer meets Echo at a bar with his two best friends from college Faith and Harper. Spark were flying when they first met. I was a little disappointed in one of the other books (not sure which one now) when Sawyer didn't make the cut for the Seattle Sharks but now I see why he didn't. There are also a few former Seattle Shark who were drafted to the Carolina Reapers who are also help out Sawyer. Echo has a painful past that she is trying to overcome. Sawyer feels he needs to put his mother first and if that means he doesn't get a contract in the NHL he is fine with that. Sawyer and Echo are almost perfect for each other. I wasn't into Echo charter at first, it took me a couple chapters to finally feel her. Sawyer on the other hand, I felt for him when he was first introduced in Wheeler. There's a part at the end of this book I felt Echo was to conceited, Sawyer wanted her to watch one of his hockey game. Why couldn't she stay and watch the game? Why did she have to leave? I just she should have stayed and watched the whole game for him.
I love the epilogue where the Reapers come together to support Sawyer and Echo. It was nice to get to know what had happened with Sawyer and Echo. -
No! I needed them to have a better ending! Ok I liked the ending and all pero enserio el se merecía felicidad, paz, libertad! Volviendo a todo enserio que disfrute mucho este libro y fue un journey que me hizo feliz y sonreír mucho. Ellos enserio que son una pareja maravillosa y cute and i cannot wait to read the next book on this serie bye

Sawyer and Echo
This book was slow in the beginning, but so worth the read. If you’ve read the Seattle Sharks series, you’ll remember Sawyer from the second half of the series. I was heartbroken for him when he barely missed his shot at becoming a Shark, but it seems like it all worked out how it was supposed to when he got his shot to become a Reaper and reconnect with some of his best friends.
Sawyer has spent the last decade taking care of people. He has put himself and his dreams second and this book was all about him taking his life in his own hands and learning it was okay to put his dreams first.
Echo was the first person to take care of Sawyer, and although she was afraid to let him in, he weaseled his way into her scarred heart. Echo reminded me a lot of Peyton Sawyer (from One Tree Hill) with her fear of everyone leaving her, either by choice or by death. She had a tough exterior, but was too afraid to let anyone all the way in.
I loved Sawyer and Echo together. They seemed like total opposites but that’s what made them so perfect for each other. I loved that they both got everything the had been dreaming of in the end and did it in a way that didn’t diminish either of their aspirations. -
Alright, I think I have to admit this: this series might be becoming my absolute favourite series. It's got angst, love, walls being broken and men going above and beyond to show the girl they love that they matter more than anything else.
This book follows Sawyer, a guy who ever since he was a teenager had to put his dream of being an NHL goalie to take care of his mom. And not once does he complain. Can we talk about goals in a guy?! On the other side, you've got Echo, who has burned by love in a completely different way: everyone she gets close to leaves her, whether it's physically or emotionally. Her luck with love was next to nothing, and her walls were built higher than imaginable.
But slowly, Sawyer breaks down the walls. Brick by brick he helps her trust herself enough to fall in love. And Echo taught him the importance of self-sustainability and self-love. This is something that most "givers" tend to forget. A story filled with cute boys, a wonderful and captivating story line, and a woman who is not only independent but successful.
I can't wait to keep reading this series. I just know I'm going to want to re-read asap!
