EXCERPT FROM OVERTURE
Rest, Liam told me.
He’s right about a lot of things. Maybe he’s right about this. I climb onto the cool pink sheets, hoping that a nap will suddenly make me content with this quiet little life.
Even though I know it won’t.
Besides, I’m too wired to actually sleep. The white lace coverlet is both delicate and comfy. It’s actually what I would have picked out for myself, except I didn’t pick it out. I’ve been incapable of picking anything, of choosing anything, of deciding anything as part of some deep-seated fear that I’ll be abandoned.
The coverlet, like everything else in my life, simply appeared.
And the person responsible for its appearance? Liam North.
I climb under the blanket and stare at the ceiling. My body feels overly warm, but it still feels good to be tucked into the blankets. The blankets he picked out for me.
It’s really so wrong to think of him in a sexual way. He’s my guardian, literally. Legally. And he has never done anything to make me think he sees me in a sexual way.
This is it. This is the answer.
I don’t need to go skinny dipping in the lake down the hill. Thinking about Liam North in a sexual way is my fast car. My parachute out of a plane.
My eyes squeeze shut.
That’s all it takes to see Liam’s stern expression, those fathomless green eyes and the glint of dark blond whiskers that are always there by late afternoon. And then there’s the way he touched me. My forehead, sure, but it’s more than he’s done before. That broad palm on my sensitive skin.
My thighs press together. They want something between them, and I give them a pillow. Even the way I masturbate is small and timid, never making a sound, barely moving at all, but I can’t change it now. I can’t moan or throw back my head even for the sake of rebellion.
But I can push my hips against the pillow, rocking my whole body as I imagine Liam doing more than touching my forehead. He would trail his hand down my cheek, my neck, my shoulder.
Repressed. I’m so repressed it’s hard to imagine more than that.
I make myself do it, make myself trail my hand down between my breasts, where it’s warm and velvety soft, where I imagine Liam would know exactly how to touch me.
You’re so beautiful, he would say. Your breasts are perfect.
Because Imaginary Liam wouldn’t care about big breasts. He would like them small and soft with pale nipples. That would be the absolute perfect pair of breasts for him.
And he would probably do something obscene and rude. Like lick them.
My hips press against the pillow, almost pushing it down to the mattress, rocking and rocking. There’s not anything sexy or graceful about what I’m doing. It’s pure instinct. Pure need.
The beginning of a climax wraps itself around me. Claws sink into my skin. There’s almost certain death, and I’m fighting, fighting, fighting for it with the pillow clenched hard.
“Oh fuck.”
The words come soft enough someone else might not hear them. They’re more exhalation of breath, the consonants a faint break in the sound. I have excellent hearing. Ridiculous, crazy good hearing that had me tuning instruments before I could ride a bike.
My eyes snap open, and there’s Liam, standing there, frozen. Those green eyes locked on mine. His body clenched tight only three feet away from me. He doesn’t come closer, but he doesn’t leave.
Orgasm breaks me apart, and I cry out in surprise and denial and relief. “Liam.”
It goes on and on, the terrible pleasure of it. The wrenching embarrassment of coming while looking into the eyes of the man who raised me for the past six years.

ARC provided to me by author Skye Warren in exchange for an honest review. -
The minute I start a Skye Warren story I know I am about to get taken on a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. I absolutely LOVED Overture. This story was sexy, deliciously taboo and so equally heartwrenching and emotional. Warren pulls our heartstrings with her words in the same manner Samantha plays her Violin: fearlessly, brilliantly and filled with an intense depth of emotion for her craft. I was enthralled with this story!
While this is a deliciously forbidden/age gap romance, Warren superbly flips the switch on us in that yes, Liam North is dominant, strong and assertive but there is something about Samantha Brooks, his beautiful, delicate violin prodigy, that brings this hardened soldier to his knees. She has power over him that no one has and that palpable connection between them is felt right through the pages.
Overall, Overture is another feather in the cap for this brilliant author as I am once again blown away by her talent and storytelling ability. I loved Liam and Samantha's story and how raw and powerful it was. It was filled with rich emotion and a plot so entrenched in secrets and lies, that it kept me glued to the pages wanting more. I can not wait for book two. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula -
This is a sexy, yet tastefully written taboo story. Skye Warren seriously brings her A-game in this one. Also, Liam North is hot AF.

★★★ A Blushing Book Review ★★★
Overture by Skye Warren
GENRE: Taboo Romance
NARRATION: Dual POV
This is Book#1 in the Series ::
THE STORY IN A NUTSHELL :
Samantha young is a talented young violinist who lost her parents separately and has lived a neglected childhood as a result. That was until she was awarded a guardian ex-military Liam North.
For 6 years Samantha has been trained diligently in her passion, the violin. Soon she will become of age and go on a world tour.
Liam has protected Samantha from a hidden danger for 6 years but how will he protect her when she leaves?
The closer Samantha gets to 18 years old the harder Liam finds it to resists his wicked thoughts about her especially when she makes cannot hide hers towards him. However when
when she finds out the truth about Liam will she still want him and stay, or will she go on tour and leave him?
“I’m not sure what right and wrong means when it comes to us.”
MY THOUGHTS:
What a delicious taboo treat and a great start to a brand new series from Skye. I simply could not put this down!
Although there is an age gap between the it is nothing too extensive and I must stress although Liam was Samantha’s guardian for some years he is not in any way related to her.
Liam is very complicated and hides some dark secrets behind hid guardianship. He is disciplined, mysterious and has a fierceness about him when it comes to his feeling for Samantha.
Samantha although young is still very mature as a result of her neglected upbringing, she is very delicate and broken and can’t wait to see her character develop over this series.
I love forbidden romance, there is so many layers to this story though and something tells me we have only scratched the surface and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

Definitly must read!
A new hit from Skye Warren, Liam North become a guardian for a twelve year old Samantha Brooks. Until she turn eight teen and they both realise their feelings are far from a father and daughter. But something evil lurking in the shadow. Not just the taboo of their turn out relationship, the truth about why Liam become Samantha guardian also have chance to change it all.
Now... Liam North... Have mercy...even his name on my lips make me a fool for him. That man... That beautiful, tough, torture soul of a man... Gaaah I want to grab him by the shoulder and shake him while screaming, "whyyyyy! "
Dang all sexy Alpha book husband! Liam North makes me crazy!
And Samantha... My beautiful Samantha. I'm screaming like a loon cheering for her. This young lady is amazing. Skye Warren breath a beautiful soul in her.
Love every detail the author sew in Overture. And all those extra FYI on top of every new chapter? I love that!
Waiting for the next book anxiously cause the cliffy! 😨 -
Overture by Skye Warren
5 stars
I think Liam North just became my all time favorite ! This book was beautifully written. I loved the relationship between Sam and Liam, to me it seemed a natural progression not something taboo. Skye has written a beautiful story, one that will stay with me for a very long time. I have never listened to as much classical music as I did with this one but it seemed fitting. I’ll be depressed as I wait for Concerto! -
A beautifully orchestrated taboo romance brimming with angst and heart-shattering moments. A story not to be missed!
Liam North will become an instant alpha favorite as he battles with the lust and passion he has simmering below the surface for Samantha. A devastating plot of mystery, taboo love, anguish and heart’s torment as these two find love in a place considered forbidden.
Bravo to Skye for writing another unputdownable story! Liam has risen to the top of my Alpha list and Samantha is like no other heroine I’ve read. Her innocence and strong conviction to follow her heart is unmatched. -
Forbidden love at its finest!
- Large age gap
- Forbidden relationship
- Slow Burn
Wow, Liam North and Samantha Brooks are insanely hot to read. Samantha is a "child prodigy" with the violin, but she's not a child anymore. Tell that to her legal guardian - Liam North.
He took her in at age 12 but we read most of the story from age 17, almost 18.
- Almost an adult. And as I said before, almost doesn't count
For anyone that is concerned they'll feel weird due to one the main character being underage, there isn't really physical interaction until she turns 18. Before then its mostly internalized thoughts or suggestive conversations.
- I’ve made love with music a thousand times, but never with a man.
Samantha was forced to grow up fast due to an absentee father, and Liam has some clearly troubled past he needs to deal with
- I'm not fighting demons, sweetheart. I am one.
I didn't realize this book was part of a trilogy (um, MAY?! really?!) but I'll be picking up the next book in the series to keep reading about their relationship and how they both cope with separation.
- I'm the one who made the overture. He's the one who will retreat. -
I wasn't sure I was going to take to this one - talk about a bit Taboo - but damn Skye does this in such a way it is so truly well done. I loved every single moment of this - well .. that's not true.. I had been allowing my kindle to read for me and I was utterly engrossed in the story and all of a sudden it states -- if you want more of the story ... I all but through my kindle. SOOOO did not want this book to end.
The absolute struggles Liam has with not only his emotions but his actions as well, he is doing all he can to stay away, just completely jumped off the pages. I couldn't help but feel the pain and want along with him.
Samantha definitely knows what she wants!! Although she has been through so much in her young life she has such strong character. She has grown to be a wonderfully amazing women. She lives her life just as she plays her violin with strength, confidence and absolute passion!
The drama, angst and love that this story holds will be an all encompassing emotional ride you will NOT want to get off of for sure!! -
Forget everything you think you know about sensuality. You will re-learn every sense of it with this tale.
Where are the 10 stars? My goodness, I feel stingy by giving this book only 5 :-D
Elegant writing, passion for music and a confessional tone underline this most beautiful romance infused with the perfume of the forbidden.
I tend to gravitate to musical or artistic themes in novels, so I couldn't believe my luck when one of my beloved authors, SW, announced her next creation to happen between a violin prodigy and her military guardian. If that doesn't thrum with dark notes of pleasure and angst, nothing does!
I marvel at the richness and complexity of these two characters falling in love that defies convention, reason or decency. Yet they fight against it with broken hearts. The writing is beautifully nuanced with emotion and honesty. Liam is tortured by his own nature full of shadows and secrets, tempted beyond endurance by the innocence of his ward. I felt goosebumps every time they shared an emotion while denying themselves the freedom to indulge it.
It is such a beauty of a romance to read. Perfectly tuned, a harmony of opposite forces as young Samantha finds her voice in a cacophony of doubts and fears, and the steel-willed guardian protects her from hidden enemies, from his basic lusts that never feel too much even when they are.
What takes this story into a place of its own is the levels it touches. Love, lust, but loneliness too, belonging and growing up, and the cyclopean strength required to set free what you love the most.
This has aroused my senses and my mind in ways I thought long dormant. I felt pure longing for this couple to find their broken happiness together. It ends on a plot twist that's going to turn Concerto into a craving. I know I must have it. I must! -
Intense and devastatingly unshakeable is how best to describe the connection between Samantha, a violin prodigy and Liam, her guardian and protector. This story had me gripped. The chemistry and tension between these two explosive. Their moments dictated by time and complicated circumstances so powerful, I truly found myself transfixed in their story. Warren is one of my favourite story tellers. She knows how to develop characters in such a profound way that leaves you breathtakingly agonized at every turn. And still she blinks up at me. There's an entire universe inside her. Creation and destruction. A million stars lighting up the night. 'What happens if I don't say no?' she asks. 'What if I say yes?' Oh God, she's testing me. Tempting me. She has no idea what's she's asking for, what I could do to her before she has a chance to object. Show her the devil inside me whispers. It sounds like my voice, that devil. It's me. To say I am committed to this story is an understatement. I can't wait to see how this love plays out in the next book. It is beautifully written, poetic at times. It pushes boundaries of acceptability and makes you question your own values and perceptions on love. Well done Warren. Not that I ever had any doubt you would create magic. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

MASTERPIECE.
This story charmed me like the hypnotizing sound of the violin. Skye Warren has created a perfect forbidden romance that combines the delicate world of classical music with the harshness that surrounds military world. This bittersweet mix resulted in a story that got under my skin and which continuation I want to follow immediately!
Samantha Brooks is a violin prodigy who’s about to finish high school and go on a tour to share her talent with the world. The girl had quite a tough childhood because first her mother died and later at the age of 12 she was orphaned by her father. Since then her legal guardian is Liam North – an ex-military with whom Samantha is in love. In addition to the obvious barrier which is the guardian/charge relationship, we also have a problem with the age gap. But despite the years apart between Samantha and Liam, none of them can stop fantasizing about the other. However, Samantha will be leaving soon... and Liam lives in the belief that he’s not worthy of love and that he isn’t able to give it anyway.
Oh, my heart. It hurts. It hurts because this book is a delicious slow-burn that made my appetite grow with every turned page and Skye Warren, instead of relieving me in this hunger, decided to end it with cliffhanger. And what am I to do now, poor me? I need the continuation as soon as possible!
I'm totally in love with Liam. This man is a walking temptation and I’m not surprised at all that Samantha loves him. Sexy as hell, mysterious and commanding. Wherever he appears, he immediately gain obedience. Samantha in turn raised mixed feelings in me... On the one hand she’s a little bit of an 'old soul' but she also had moments where her youthful naivety showed up.
I’m completely captivated by this story. I hope that Skye Warren will not let me wait for too long for the next part because now I feel like hiding in the corner and crying that I can’t get to know the continuation immediately.
*ARC received for an honest review. -
Well. I didn’t know what to really expect!
I love all of her books!!!
This is a Tanglewood spin off. And you see a little of Bea from Escort!!
This is a gently taboo storyline.
A ward falling for her guardian.
The guardian is head over heels for her but knows it’s not right.
The angst in this mixed with the heat. Whew.
L O V E D it!!!
Ends on cliffhanger. Concerto out in May!! -
Decadently Forbidden Skye Warren is back!
This story was about Samantha Brooks (seventeen going on eighteen) she is a violin child prodigy. When her neglectful father dies she was given into the custody of Liam North; a security expert even though she has an older brother.
Liam and her father had never met but he was racked with guilt of the supposed death of Samantha's father so he pulled some strings and got custody of her. He is haunted from the abuse at the hands of his father and the fact that he left his two younger brothers behind when he was eighteen and couldn't protect them. He vows to protect Samantha even from himself.
Samantha harbors a taboo desire for Liam. She loves him not as a ward and guardian but what she hopes to become to him; his lover. Liam struggles with his feelings for her. Skye Warren definitely pushed the boundaries with this one as Sam was still 17 when Liam and her engaged in kissing and some heavy petting but on her birthday they finally do the deed which was a combination of scenes similar to Pretty When You Cry and The Pawn.
There is some mystery involved as to who starts to stalk Samantha and put a hit on her life and what really happened six years ago to her father.
The only thing I didn't like is everyone seems to have been abused in some way by their parents, Samantha neglected by her dad (by going hungry, being left in different places without her dad realizing she wasn't with him and her cold at times with no shoes), the three North brothers physically and mentally by their father, Samantha's best friend Laney neglected by her mom who goes off on dangerous military missions and leaves her home alone and Sam's friend Cody who is physically abused by his dad and may have even been sexually abused by his school coach.
This story was opposite and similar at the same time to SW's Escort where Beatrix[friends with Sam], who plays the piano has a guardian who is a predator who wants to marry her, get full access to the trust fund and may have killed her parents.
This was a mysterious and illicit read. -
Sometimes, with a taboo such as age, I’ll start out worried that I won’t be able to get past it - or worse, that I just won’t care (which is more likely.) Always, with a Skye Warren book, I know that I’ll love it, no matter where it takes me.
This book, although absolutely devastating in some of its raw emotionality, was no exception.
Samantha is young in the only way that seems to matter to society - a number on a piece of paper. In terms of actual experiences, and the awful things she’s lived through, she’s older than most people we’ll ever meet. She’s a little bit broken for it, but also a whole lot grown up. And she knows her own heart better than she gets credit for.
Liam never had much of a chance to be a child. If Samantha is a little broken, Liam is a shell - the major difference that he’ll never be able to reconcile who he is and what he’s been through with ever deserving normal, or love.
The two characters are explosive together. Not just the obvious chemistry, but the way Samantha tries her utmost to please Liam, always afraid that his hospitality might wane if she doesn’t.
Add in some unseen danger, a near-death experience, and some admitted desires, and this story leaves you absolutely hanging for more. I hate having to wait for the next installment, but I’m so excited that we get the chance to delve deeper into these characters. The wait will be so worth it! -
OH. My. God. Skye Warren does NOT know how to write a bad book and her latest is just proof of that. Overture is full of suspense, heartache, lust and love. I could not put this book down and was reading along in the world of violins and hunky men when BAM! Out of the blue the book ended with a most spectacular cliff hanger. I can not wait forConcerto to be released. Overture is so well written that I swear I could hear Samantha playing the classical music as I was reading. Overture is Carnegie Hall and I give it 5-stars.
Samantha Brooks is a child violin prodigy. After the death of her father she becomes the ward of Liam North the founder of North Securities. Surrounded my ex-military men and living on a compound in Texas, life is safe and secure. Samantha is counting down the last few days until she turns eighteen and leaves to go on tour, which means she will also have to leave the man she has fallen in love with. Liam knows that keeping Samantha at the compound is wrong and he also knows that the feelings he has for her go way past that of guardian and ward. Samantha wants Liam in ways that only a woman can want a man, but that is one Overturethat she does not know how to write. How can she get Liam to see her as an adult and not as child, as a woman that is in love with him? With hidden dangers waiting in the shadows and a love that is forbidden, Samantha knows the only way to get Liam to understand her for the woman she has become, is to leave the safe, secure compound and go out on her own. It's for the best that Samantha leaves, but Liam’s not sure he can handle living without her, and if she leaves who’s to say that those who are out to get her won’t succeed?
-
Liam and Samantha, they are, well, they are both broken. Not a little, but more than they should be. Because of their fathers. Because of their childhoods. Because life just isn’t giving them any breaks along the way. Even as fate put them together, they continue the damage. To each other. Not maliciously, not with intent t harm. With intent to protect. To protect themselves, from the other. To protect the other, from themselves. And then it all becomes clear. The truth doesn’t always set you free. Sometimes the truth makes you lose everything you want. Everything you hold dear, need to live. Sometimes, the truth hurts, and makes you a target. Luckily, the truth is being held back by Liam, even when Samantha thinks she has it all figured out
Thrilling, yet quiet. Sweet, yet shrouded. Soothing, yet heart pound. This story weaves, twists, and turns, but it stays in one spot. Loved it, and the end came too quickly, was too surprising, and sucked the air out of the room when it was revealed. It has left me in high anxiety wanting the next book, and the conclusion! -

5 stars!!!
Omg did I love this book😁.. I devoured Overture in one read and now I’m impatient. The secrets, suspense and sexual tension had me at the edge of my seat, turning page after page needing more of Samantha and Liam.
Samantha Brook’s (17), violin prodigy, became Liam North’s (34) ward at the age of 12. Now nearing 18, lines are getting blurred and both, Samantha and Liam are realizing how empty their lives will be without one another. (Liam only started to develop feelings or anything sexual towards her when she was nearing 18, I don’t feel it was inappropriate). After high school, Samantha will leave on a music tour that will take her across the country and world. Liam wants to protect her and he’s trying to fight his feelings towards her.
”No one messes with Samantha Brooks—not even me.”
”Nothing has ever happened between me and Samantha, and that can’t change. No matter how badly I want her. No matter how hard I ache for just one taste.”
Liam was the typical brooding hero, he runs a security business with his two brothers, who are all ex-military. Because of his own traumatic childhood and all the secrets he hid from Samantha, he feels he can’t give her what she wants. As the truth will make him lose her. They both fight the attraction they have towards each other. The sexual tension is scorching hot!!! Best I’ve read in a long time. I just wanted them to rip each other’s clothes off.
The ending does have a cliffhanger. Which means we get more of Liam and Samantha😁. But I need the next book like yesterday... I’m dying here with anticipation. Overall this book was an exhilarating read. Definitely one of my favorites for the year!!

I’m ashamed to say that 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 is my first adventure into the brilliant mind of Skye Warren. I’m kicking myself for not finding her sooner, but I’ll tell you what…now that I’ve experienced the epic writing style and imagination of hers, there is no going back! THIS BOOK, you guys! It was such an incredible, sexy, forbidden, and thought-provoking read. It’s so enticing, sensual, and delicious! Liam North is a freaking GOD and the other North brothers…I can't even! I loved Samantha as well. She’s young, but she is smart and bold at times, and her soul matches Liam’s like a puzzle piece. This forbidden delight is laced with mystery, passion, and intrigue and I can’t wait to see where this heart-pounding journey takes us.

Skye Warren, you did it again! You lured me in. Made me fall for Samantha and Liam.
Even though he’s older and her guardian,i want them to be together.
Need them to heal eachother.
Samantha became his ward at 12 years old, and Liam has a deep need to keep her safe from whatever danger might lurk in the shadows. He even wants to keep her safe from him,and his growing need to claim her for himself. Because she is too sweet, too innocent for the darkness he holds inside. Not to mention, the very things he did to ensure she wás safe. But Samantha has a mind of her own,and as her 18th birthday arrives, she knows if she doesn’t take the innitiative, nothing will ever happen between them....
If you think the age gap is the only thing playing in this story, you clearly don’t know Skye.
Evil really does lurk in the dark, and it’s the kind of evil that makes one hell of a cliffhanger!
My only hope now is,that Skye won’t keep us in the dark too long, because i need to know what happens!
Please,Skye! Help! -
Can love be restricted by age or labels dictated by society? When two imperfect souls find solace and reprieve in each other, it cannot be wrong because everyone thinks so. Life needs support and friendship. And heart can see love in the most difficult yet appropriate person. Overture by Skye Warren is a story of such love. Where love means protection, redemption and solidarity.
I have almost no boundaries while reading different romance trope. Overture by Skye Warren deals with something I have difficulty with sometimes. Age gap romance. Liam North became the legal guardian of Samantha Brooks at age of 12 after the mysterious death of her father. They didn't know each other at all before that. Liam took her under wings and protected her. She is a violin prodigy and Liam supported her arts. Now she is almost 18 and ready to leave for world tour with world renowned artists. May be it is the impending separation or may be the hormones of a woman trapped in a girl's body, Samantha starts having sinful and forbidden thoughts about her guardian. Liam, ex special force and owner of North Security is dark, dangerous, brooding and most importantly always in control. But his feeling for Samantha is getting out of control. Samantha has a shielded life in North Tower and now she wants to explore the world. She wants to explore Liam. They both know it is taboo and probably wrong. But it becomes inevitable when two persons find light in each other and they need the light to slay their demons. But Liam has to let her go. Samantha is an innocent, brilliant and talented girl. She has no place in the evil world of Liam. They have too many secrets and forces working against them. And we leave the couple heartbroken and destroyed in the end. This is a series so the story continues in next book!
The whole story is like a well synchronized orchestra. The push and pull between Samantha and Liam flows like well tuned music. Their relationship is like a sensual dance. They have this intense need to be just together. The crescendo and fall of the emotions were amazing. The story has elements of surprise and mystery woven with unadulterated lust and passion. Secrets whisper behind the walls of North Towers and the author left me hanging with a devastating one at the end. The writing is simply beautiful and expressive. Skye Warren brings out the best and worst of all the characters with ease. She created a slow, believable and comfortable change in relationship dynamics. I didn't cringe or feel awkward as Liam and Samantha crossed boundaries. On the contrary this felt almost holy. The chemistry of bodies and minds along with the musical overtone made this an unique story.
Skye Warren is a master story teller. She writes an epic and exquisite tale of forbidden love and burning passion in Overture. This story is about broken souls getting healed by power of trust and loyalty. I never wanted it to end and I know the wait for the next book will be pure torture!
RECEIVED ARC FOR HONEST REVIEW. -
Brilliant. There's no other word to describe this latest installment from Skye Warren. She creates characters so darkly complex it's impossible not to be totally captivated by them. Liam is the definition of darkness and Samantha is everything that is light. They are opposites yet totally in sync to one another. Their dynamic was exquisite.
Story Line: Samantha is a violinist. Okay, that's putting it mildly. She's like a freaking rockstar. She's about to go on a world tour and hasn't even turned 18 yet. YEAH. She's a legit prodigy. But she comes from a pretty horrific backstory. I won't give anything away, but I will say she was basically an orphan from the age of 12. Poor thing. But let's all take a moment to thank our lucky stars for Liam. Dark, guarded, jaded Liam. He's 16 years older than her, yet took her under his wing. But not in a "I'm your new dad" kind of way. God no. THANK GOD NO. However, over the years the heat and the zings have grown until neither Samantha nor Liam can ignore them. And when their brick walls come crumbling down? Let's just say I think my "headlights" are going to be on for the rest of the week.
Interaction: The dynamic between Samantha and Liam is so beautifully tortured. There's a clear attraction, but there's also years and years of trust and respect built as well. Everything between them flows as easily as water. Until a single moment of weakness changes everything. And then it's no longer water - it's icy hot flames. And even then, when they are denying themselves their hearts desires - it's still excruciatingly beautiful.
Laundry: You know how I said my headlights are going to be on the rest of the week? YEAH. That's because the amount of angst and lust built up between these two characters is enough to set ANYONE'S body on fire. The amount of zings of electricity that were set to my finger tips is insane while reading this book. Never have I had to put a book down mid laundry scene to LITERALLY fan myself. HOLY CRAP.
Depth: I'm going to by honest with y'all. Because I dated a musician in college, these types of themes don't pull me in. However, little fact about your friendly laundry librarian. I was also a musician. I played with our local youth orchestra for a few years. I was drum major of the band. So yeah, I'm no stranger to the musical world. But I loved diving back into that type of mindset. The endless practicing, the devotional and the way the music takes over your soul. It was nice to take a jog down memory lane. Samantha and her talent will leave you feeling the beauty of her compositions and with a small inkling to listen to a little Beethoven even.
When I read the final page of Overture I was a little floored. In true SW fashion, we are left hanging just a little. Just enough for us to be begging and pleading for book two. But not enough to be taking her name in vain. So, now we wait. We wait for the next edition it was it sure to be Skye Warren's latest masterpiece. -
When I went into this book, reading only the blurb, I thought it was going to be very similar to another book I read (age gap, classical music, guardian/ward), but I was SO. WRONG. Skye Warren managed to bring together something that seem impossible and make it possible.
Our main couple have gone through quite a bit together. Liam North gains custody of Samantha Brookes after her father dies. Unbeknownst to her, her life isn't as simple as it seems and Liam is a lot more involved with the death of her father than she expects. Once she turns 18, as a young and talented violinist, she is about to embark on her first tour with a professional orchestra, but something is holding her back--her feelings for Liam. The two take their first steps on what will most definitely be a path full of judgement and danger.
I did not realize the series title when I got this book. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Liam and his brothers were in this team (seemingly of ex-military men and women) and they had their own /secret/ mission and goal. This addition changed the whole story line from where I thought the book was going to go, and took it to a whole other level that left me breathless. Samantha and Liam are believable, which is one of the most important things I look for in a good book. They went through internal and external turmoil about their feelings and what steps to take. Although, thinking back on it, the book is a slow burn, it didn't feel like a slow burn! I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. Skye Warren captivated me with their love story and I've never been happier that this book is only the first in a series.
Can't wait to see what's to come!
5 Stars! -
Skye Warren consistently delivers exquisitely written stories filled with emotion and unforgettable characters. Overture was a steamy taboo romance that flawlessly blends angst, suspense and romance.
“The sensations should be different, the structure of a violin wholly apart from the tangle of feelings I have around the man. They blur together anyway, a physical symphony I play and play.”
The characters of this story really made this book come to life. Samantha and Liam were both damaged in their own ways due to their separate upbringings. I loved how the author slowly gave us insight into their pasts, building their characters in a way that makes the reader want more. This story was so much more than a taboo guardian/ward relationship. Their internal struggles were so complex, and each and every encounter was so full of tension and passion.
“The lines between right and wrong have blurred so much that I don’t know where to begin. The only thing I know for sure is that I want to f**k her so bad it hurts.”
There is a lot going on within the story and I loved it all. Secrets, buried pasts, hidden danger, all lie in the background of Liam and Samantha’s tumultuous relationship. This book was the start of a series and there is so much that I want to see play out, both between Liam and Samantha, and with the threat that they are facing. The author definitely succeeded in hooking me into the storyline, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. -
That was a tortuous, sexy slow burn with a cliff hanger!! How dare you Skye Warren!!😉
You gave us a taste, a deliciously scandalous one, and then dropped a bomb only to say Find Out What Happens Next!❤️ All of the bubbling tension kept me on edge and wanting more!
Liam is a damaged, hardened soul who I love! I want to know so much more about him and his brothers (spin off series please!!) He is a broody, overprotective Alpha with a dark past and a secret love for Samantha!
Then there is sweet, violin genius Samantha who has lusted and loved Liam for what feels like forever to her! The history of her father and family is intriguing. This is a complex novel with darker tones that is a very enjoyable read. The age gap and taboo relationship that springs from the warden and his charge added a great dynamic to the story.
The possibility of their forbidden relationship makes the reader only want it more! Liam’s rough and primal approach to sex makes sense for his character. He is a wounded wild animal so some of what he says I would find vulgar for another character in another book works for him! I appreciated the non-sugar coating of feelings and events. It made these two more interesting and intimate.
I am so excited to read what comes next!

Music and books have always been a huge part of my life and happiness so, when I was offered an opportunity to read an advanced copy of one of my favorite authors books about a musical genius, I jumped at the chance! Skye Warren is that author and Overture is that book! Anyone who has ever read one of her books will tell you that each one you finish will grab you and be more exciting than the last, become a new favorite.
This story draws you into the almost solitary world that Samantha Brooks, prodigal violinist inhabits with ex military man, Liam North. He's not a relative, not a friend but stepped into her life at age 12 when he was only 28 years old himself to become her legal guardian and keep at bay all who would try to hurt her or take advantage of her uniqueness and talent. He knows more than he should about her former life with her neglectful father, facts that he tries to keep buried. Layers of mysterious secrets are waiting to be discovered between the pages of Overture and will no doubt continue into the next book where I hope to see them completely revealed because, wow, I am so damn hooked into this story right now!!! Skye, you get me every time with your evil genius plotting!
Liam and Samantha both have scars from childhood, hers- cold neglect and indifference which made her have to be too responsible too soon, his- mental and physical abuse no boy should've had to endure, but all shape who they become. Liam is the owner of North Security, employing his brothers and other ex military on his large compound in Texas. These protectors are her only 'family' and this is Sams beautiful cage. She has a couple loyal friends, but at school, most are jealous or just avoid her altogether. Music and playing her violin are everything, but her most secret desire is her stoic, handsome guardian, Liam and the lustful forbidden daydreams she can't stop having with him as the star of them. She'll soon be 18, graduate from high school and then head out on her first world tour as a professional violinist, but without him to run interference, what will happen? Each day that ticks by brings them both closer to the day she will leave, taking away her light and the haunting music that soothes his dark, damaged soul.
Liam is struggling to hide the feelings he knows are wrong to have about his beautiful ward and as the clock counts down to her 18th birthday, so does the control he has over what he'd like to do to her, if he only could. There is a subtle back and forth game being played here, it's a slow, suspenseful, seductive dance and it's written perfectly for these characters. The twisty plot will leave you saying W.T.F.??? as a major clue is dropped toward the end which is when I said to myself...how can this be wrapped up in the time remaining. This...duh, is when I realized...cliffhanger alert, but it ends in such a way that I will be okay waiting for the next book to come my way and reveal its juicy secrets. Skye Warren is masterful at leaving you guessing and often has several connected books in the dark, dangerous, wonderful worlds she creates, which means more thrills to come in Liam and Samantha's story. Will the slow burn become toooooo hot to handle...I sure hope so!!! A few villains to love to hate, YES, of course, but I will also love every minute of doing so. Bring on the next book, Concerto! I can't wait!!!! -
🎻🎻🎻🎻
I truly enjoyed this book! I love Samantha & Liam's bittersweet forbidden bond . Samantha is an amazingly sweet, caring, and smart young lady. I love the fact that love is LOVE in this book and despite all Samantha still felt how she felt for Liam and didn't allow nothing of anyone to change that. She went with what felt right. The heat, hunger, and thirst for Samantha was something Liam fought but eventually gave in to. They can be sooo good for one another Liam just have to be willing to give in to the demons he's fighting for her she's well worth it all!!! This mysterious heated suspense just kept me wanting more!!! Thanks Skye Warren
