This kindle freebie is a rather nice. I actually found the artwork here to be better than in the first two Travel with Me books. Bonus points for information about the famous Spanish places Serafina visits as well as about the various animals.

I am a big nature lover and actually have been to the parts of Spain as described in this book 24 yrs ago! How fun for me to revisit them through the lovely Serafina eagle owl character.

The illustrations are wonderful in this book to take us on Serafina’s journey!

I like how the author shows us Serafina and talks about the type of owl she is. I had never heard of an eagle owl before and found it very interesting that they are one of the largest owls in the world!

Serafina is fearful and shy. This made me sad as she is such a big owl! I love how Serafina makes the decision to be more confident and enjoy life.

Different opportunities come her way to explore her country. For instance watching flamenco dancers dance and going to the Alhambra palace. She meets doves and a pair of Iberian storks, making friends along the way.

She not only makes feathered friends but meets up with the Rock of Gibraltar Barbary macaque monkeys too!

Serafina definitely soars gaining in confidence and being inspired by her country of Spain.

The fun facts at the end of the book I think are great teaching tools to learn about the different bits about Spain that are presented in this book.

I love the photo of the author with an eagle owl at the end of the book!! I like learning a bit about authors and what inspires them to write their books.

This will be the perfect book to share with my grandson who is seven years old. He recently had been living in England for the last couple years. I know he will enjoy learning about Spain!

Alma Hammond brings us a great story of overcoming our personal fears in "Serafina Soars." The story centers around Serafina, an Eurasian eagle owl, who is shy and only comes out at night. After hearing some music from some Flamenco dancers, Serafina explores the scene and encounters a mean and rude donkey that hurts her feelings. After receiving some encourage by some turtle doves and storks, Serafina begins on a quest to visit many places throughout Spain both day and night, while also befriending some monkeys along the way. This story provides great characters and references of historical places in Spain such as The Alhambra and the Rock of Gibraltar. The illustrator Anya McLeod delivered beautifully drawn images and scenes to help tell this story. Overall, this is a great story of overcoming personal fears and becoming your own true shelf so that you soar to new heights never been reached.

    What all children need

In a world increasingly dominated by fear, this book is what every child needs. All books by Alma Hammond have a meaningful life lesson to tell. Teaching children that fear can keep them from being themselves, from reaching their full potential, and becoming happy individuals, is probably one of the best lesson to be taught. Amazing artwork as well; very vivid.

    Educational and well illustrated

The illustrations are clear, well defined, and colourful. This is reflective of the author’s entire educational series. Serafina Soars is a beautiful story teaching about the majesty of one of nature’s unique species, the eagle owl. As Serafina soars over Spain, we learn a few facts about her home locale. Very well written, edited, and exceptionally illustrated.

Being brave comes with desire and practice

Serafina Soars is an uplifting book about overcoming fear, with desire and practice. It’s also very educational, and helps kids explore new cultures.

“Serafina Soars” is a cute book with bright, engaging illustrations. In this story, readers will meet Serafina, a shy Eurasian Eagle Owl. They’ll find out why she has very good hearing and what helps her fly long distances. Serafina is very shy by nature. When a rude donkey makes unkind comments, Serafina’s confidence is shaken. But she meets some turtle doves who help rebuild her confidence. Little by little she begins exploring the world around her. During the story Serafina meets animals who help her overcome her shyness. I liked the extra educational section at the end of the book which explains more about Flamenco Dancers, Turtle Doves, White Storks and other places Serafina visited during her travels. My opinion is that the story ended a bit abruptly. Regardless, story will help children who need to overcome shyness or build confidence.

The art work is beautiful and the story is beautiful. My only complaint is that the text was very small.

A beautiful story with a great moral

Serafina, an Eurasian eagle, is a bit shy and often fearful around others. But she longs to enjoy more of the world and knows that this means she has to do something, even she is a bit afraid to do so. And so she flies out. She sees beautiful things she never had seen before. She talks to the doves and the storks she meets on her night trips. When she goes to bed, exhausted, every day she feels stronger inside and dares to go a wing further. She’s having chats with new animals and birds she meets, and enjoyed the wonderful country she lives in.
In this story, with beautiful illustrations, the author gives a wonderful lesson. Don’t let fear, let you down, go always a little bit further and you can become stronger and experience beautiful things.
And as an extra moral in the sideline, Alma Hammond gives the kids a view on why the old donkey bullies others, well a bully doesn’t love himself...

I am happy to present you this amazing photographer/author of children’s books

I enjoyed this book a lot!
It tells the story of a shy Owl that is growing out of her fears and trying to explore more and more of her surroundings.
This book is able to combine two cool subjects - A nice story about overcoming limitations and a little travel through southern Spain. We can see some monuments, local animals, feasts and more.
I think this is a very smart idea and it was very well executed.
The illustrations are nice, with a traditional style that fits very well the focus of the book on tradition and nature.
This is a good book to reveal the spirit of southern Spain to children all over the world.
    I recommend it!
