I first "met" Ree Drummond 10 or 12 years ago through her Pioneer Woman blog. I loved her laid back and casual posts that covered everything from her life on the ranch to all kinds of kitchen basic how-to's that were extremely helpful early in my marriage when my husband and I were learning to feed ourselves, lol. Ree just seems like a real genuine person and I enjoyed reading the tidbits she'd share and trying out her recipes.
Fast forward to 2020 and the woman is her own brand. Her name is all over every floral patterned kitchen item you can shake a stick at, she has several cookbooks and children's books, and her own cooking show. Is it overkill? Maybe, but I'm happy for her because she seems so nice!
This book is a collection of personal stories divided into five sections and quite simply if you love reading her blog then you'll love this book.

This book was exactly what I wanted it to be - cozy and comfy and happy. I haven’t read any of her other books, though, so I have nothing to compare it to - I do think that if I had actually ever watched her show or read her blog it might have been familiar material. But I hadn’t, so it wasn’t, and I’m a happy reader!

What better week to post about this book than a week that focuses on food & baking than Thanksgiving, right? I love when I get the chance to watch Ree's show, 'The Pioneer Woman'. She makes yummy foods that use easy to find ingredients, she has the sweetest voice ever, & the woman never stops smiling! This is my first book by Ree, but I think I am going to check out her others now since this one was just so cute & fun! The book jacket is adorable, the book itself is pink & there are even little hearts covering the inside covers, & there are a handful of recipes, too...what more could I ask for!
This is one of the cutest, funniest, mom-type, celebrity memoirs I have ever read. I had no idea how witty Ree is! She is hugely successful w/ a TV show, bestselling cookbooks, a blog, a magazine & a cooking products line, but she is also a super grounded, family-first woman & I admire that so much! And the chapter, 'Love in the Time of Rubber Snakes'...I totally related because I do this to my family as well. -
Ree Drummond also known as The Pioneer Woman, cook show host, author and entrepreneur’s latest book Frontier Follies is an uplifting book of essays about her life on the Drummond ranch with her in-laws, children, cowboys and husband. Now, if you are not a fan of Ree, (I personally feel like she is a friend in my head), this book may not be for you. But if you enjoy witty stories about life, love and skunks you will enjoy this book of well written, heartwarming themes.
In Frontier Follies, Drummond gives the reader an inside seat at her and husband Ladd’s table where she shares some very funny, sometimes crude table talk on life on a ranch. Whether it’s how she seems to wash dishes as she and Ladd have arguments, (I Do Dishes When I Argue), or how no one comes between Ladd and a meal, (Ladd and the Gala) or what their trials and tribulations were during their first year of marriage with Ree being pregnant and trying to adjust to life on a ranch where her closest neighbor is almost an hour away, there is a certain flair and sarcasm she uses to make even the direst of situations make you smile.
As she chronicles her families lives on the ranch, attempting homeschooling, or planting sunflowers only to have them destroyed, or telling the tale of a family of skunks who moved in under their house on the ranch, each essay exudes her charm.
There is a section on losing Ladd’s mother Nan a few years ago as well as a naughty essay about Nan which made me laugh out loud. Also included is the story of how they became foster parents to their “bonus kid” Jamar and what the adjustment was like for everybody in their family. Oh, and there are stories about the cowboys on the ranch!
Frontier Follies is an enjoyable, easy read with a tender and lighthearted look into how someone’s track in life of becoming a lawyer took a deep turn when she fell in love with a cowboy. -
Frontier Follies is the latest book by Ree Drummond, popular cooking show host and author of several cookbooks and children's books. Her first book, Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, described meeting her future husband, getting married and moving to a cattle ranch. Frontier Follies describes life on the ranch in later years. She touches on many subjects such as pranking her husband, homeschooling, childbirth, and children leaving for college. It is filled with many laugh out loud stories from someone who definitely does not take herself seriously. A fun and lighthearted read for when you need a good escape from the world. – Jennifer C.

When you read her stories from over the years of living on an Oklahoma ranch she just feels so down to earth. You feel like you know her from sitting in your home and watching her cook on tv in her own home and seeing her family on their ranch. She is funny too. Down to earth and funny are a great mix when it comes to biographies for me.

Listened to the audiobook in the car totting my kids from one activity to the next, and it was a very enjoyable way to spend several hours of my week!!

I would consider myself a fan of Ree! I really enjoy watching her on tv and even visited her restaurant in Oklahoma! This book though... not a fan. I found myself feeling embarrassed for her and her family. She tried so hard to be funny and it just didn’t work. The “love robot” essay really stood out as an example! It was so awkward. I really wanted to like this book, but it just fell short.

This book was just okay. I think I’ll stick to her show.

3.5🌟 This was a fun book to listen to. It was especially fun since Ree narrated it herself. It sounded as if we were just sitting down over a cup of coffee and talking. Most of the stories were really funny, some were a little too personal 😳🤭 Overall, it was an interesting book and fun to learn a little bit more about Ree and her family.

3.5⭐
Each chapter was a different story from various aspects of her life. There were some very funny stories, and a few ummm interesting stories. There was some language sprinkled throughout and some of the writing was rather rambling. -
I loved sitting down with Ree and getting to laugh with her and getting to know her better. Wait did I just say sitting down with Ree. Thats wrong I was reading her latest book it just felt like I was sitting down talking with her. I laughed and just had the best time reading this one. I am still laughing about the doughnut story,
This is a 5-star read and a much needed read doing all the mess we have all been through. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. A favorable review was not required, and all views expressed are our own. -
Perhaps my high expectations were the downfall for the book. I love her cookbooks and her first book about her romance with Ladd, but this felt like a disjointed combination of disparate blog posts - many of which I had read before. Furthermore, there was a puritanical vein running through the book that made me feel uncomfortable at the very least. There were a couple of truly hilarious stories but not enough to bump the rating of this book higher than two stars.

I have Ree Drummond’s most recent cookbook and was glad to get to this collection of essays by her as well. While it was mostly about parenting and I am not a parent, I did love most of the stories in here and really enjoyed the recipes that were included throughout. I listened to this one via audiobook and Drummond reads it herself which I always love. This had plenty of funny and heartwarming stories that had me chuckling and if you are a fan of The Pioneer Woman then you definitely want to check this one out.
Thank you to William Morrow Books for the finished copy to review. -
I loved her crazy as hell TMI stories. Ree is a funny af down home girl

3.5 🌟
This was a very enjoyable read as I didn’t know much about Ree Drummond other than watching her show a couple times. She is very down to earth, funny person with lots of stories! Some stories were a little TMI about cattle ranching and she uses some colorful language at times.
Some chapters were laugh-out-loud hilarious especially with the women who came to visit her kitchen house but ended up at her personal house by mistake. The women came in while she was taking a bath and eventually Ree yelled out to them in a man voice, “You’ve got the wrong house!” And they yelled back, “Sorry, sir!” and ran out.

I love the honesty and humility that shine in this book. If you're a fan of Ree Drummond, you know she's very down-to-earth, and that's part of her appeal. She's very open, despite being an extroverted introvert, and shares lots of fun details and behind-the-scenes info.
I also love the no-apologies attitude about her life on the ranch. She doesn't gloss anything over, just lays it all out there. And apparently, cowboys are known for cussing, so beware for a word or two here and there.
Makes me want to go back to Pawhuska! -

Her stories were so much fun to read, the mood lift 💓 💖 I needed:).
Would definitely recommend if you want something to get ya laughing/smiling. -
Ree Drummond is simply adorable! I started following her blog about 15 years ago when my photography studio was first opening up. She would not only share recipes from the ranch but also stunning photography of horses and sunsets. She did such a great job of capturing the beauty of ordinary life.
Frontier Follies feels a lot like that. It’s a perfectly silly celebration of the everyday moments of Ree Drummond’s life as a mom, wife, and cookbook author/TV personality living in rural America. From marital disagreements to random incidents involving skunks, she candidly tells fun little anecdotes about her family that make you chuckle. Like the fact that she little has a running prank with her husband involving fake snakes! This book had me laughing out loud and reading lines from the book to my husband.
She shares tips on marriage, parenting, and balancing life. She opens up about her recent adoption. Included throughout are recipes that match the stories. It’s as laid back and open as the author.
Thank you to @tlcbooktours @williammorrowbooks for the book -
I absolutely loved this book. It was truly and light and fun read that gave me a glimpse into ranch life in Oklahoma. The stories included in this book were honest and heartfelt and even funny at times. There were definitely numerous times that I found myself laughing out loud while reading.
Being a country girl myself, I was super excited to read this book. There were definitely some parts of the book that I could really relate to and I loved it. I also think that this book would be insightful and enjoyable for city folk who are looking to learn more about country living as well.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read. This is one that I’d highly recommend for rural and urban dwellers alike.
Thank you to the publisher for a gifted copy through a GoodReads giveaway. -
This book wasn't what I expected. It didn't really focus on her cooking show at all, which I was hoping for more of; rather, this was more about her life and being a mother and wife. The chapters were short, blog-type entries and some were honestly quite cheesy. I appreciate how real she is, but I did wish I learned more about her come-to-fame experience.
I did find it interesting that where they film her Food Network show is the Lodge, the guesthouse on the ranch, and that you can tour the space for free when they aren't filming. -
Ree is not as funny as she thinks she is, nor is her life as interesting or exciting as a book with the word "misadventures" in the title would suggest. This made for some very cringey essays, and some essays that were so dull, I'd read the first few lines and then skip them (see: the entire section about her extended family).

I have adored Ree Drummond since the very first Pioneer Woman blog post I read years ago. She’s funny and sweet and sassy and so real. I own (and love) all of her amazing cookbooks and my favorite thing about them are the stories scattered throughout, so this book was such a treat- full of stories and lessons from her life as a ranch wife and mom. Definitely recommend for her fans!

I have followed Ree since the early days of her blog, pre-TV show and cookbook and have been a fan ever since. I love her humor and humbleness and her whole vibe seems so genuine. I’m dying to go to Pawhuska to all her shops and the Lodge.
I really enjoyed this book I think I just wish it were longer! I love books with special things in them like lists of facts or trivia and silly stuff like you’d see in a teeny bopper mag on your favorite celebrity and she threw several in here 🥰
I rarely cry at books and when I do it’s 99.9% over an animal and I ugly cried at the dog chapter, it’s sweet and sad. I remember Charlie so well and meeting Ree at the STL library for a book signing telling her how much I liked her posts about him. SOB.
I learned a bit about Ree that I didn’t know (foster son) and a lot of funny stories that I expected (horses eating the sunflowers). Overall I am happy to have this book and def recommend if you are a PW fan or want a lighthearted easy read. I give it 3.5 stars, more if she has delved slightly more personal moments/opinions but I completely respect that this is meant to be lighthearted essays and snippets on nice parts of life. -
Many thanks to Bibliolifestyle and William Morrow for gifting me this book - it filled my heart and made me smile.
I recognize Ree Drummond and I know she has a cooking show, but other than that, I knew absolutely nothing about her before picking up her book. And boy, was it just perfect to listen to! This book is filled with funny stories and reflections on regular, everyday life. It was everything I didn't know that I needed - comfy and cozy as Drummond talks about everything from motherhood to funny stories about her kids and her life on the ranch. I really enjoyed hearing stories about what life is like living on a ranch - certainly gave me a new appreciation for that kind of life. Drummond seems so "down-to-earth" and friendly! This is an easy read as the chapters are quick, sharp, and really funny. You can't help but have a smile on your face as you turn the pages or listen (narrated by Drummond herself - BONUS!). This book was originally published in 2020, but re-released in 2022 so if you missed it the first time around, don't miss out this time! I can't recommend this one enough! -
This was a fun book of stories about motherhood, marriage, family and life on a rural ranch in the middle of Oklahoma. I had been following Ree's blog for a while and enjoy her recipes for delicious meals, so was excited to pick this up. It was funny, sweet, and I loved learning more of her story. As a city person, the references to all the country ways made me smile and at times be terrified- cow nuts anyone? Would recommend for fans of hers and anyone that wants to learn about life on a ranch.
Thank you to William Morrow for my gifted copy. -
I loved this book. I listened to the audio version because Ree reads it herself. I think listening to it is a must. It’s a random collection of things and not a continuous story but I love that about it. I laughed out loud on more than one occasion.

A light read, kind of like a series of blog posts (a few of which I had read before) but oh so enjoyable. Read by Ree herself you can’t help but smile along with her and wish you lived on a ranch. She has a way of storytelling that takes you right inside her story. Perfect read for 2020! I’d read another one of her books every week.
