Whitman County Sheriff Tom Jessup wants a nice, safe county. Unfortunately, things are about to get deadly.
A seemingly normal death points Jessup north where he finds Detectives Quinn Delaney and Marci Burkett investigating a double murder.
Their cases are tied together by blood—family blood, but nothing else.
Or so it seems.
To further their investigation, Delaney and Burkett turn to a man they don’t trust. He’s a questionably motivated officer who seems to answer only to himself. Meanwhile, Sheriff Jessup struggles to connect the cases across county lines.
As the deaths continue to mount, the four race in opposite directions, each hunting a killer in their own ways.
Will they find him before he strikes again?
Or will distance and department politics let a killer escape?
The Blind Trust is the third book in The 509 Crime Stories, a series of novels set in Eastern Washington with revolving lead characters. If you like police procedurals with compelling personalities, then you’ll love this story.

The Blind Trust (The 509 Crimes Stories, #3) Reviews

Wow what a very very good book. I have to say it straight out this guy can write. The first book in the series was good but he was just getting the series started. The second book made my favorites list which is hard to do and this one made the list also very impressive. This series is a little different because it covers the same homicide department but so far different detectives have been featured. This was a very good complex story and featured a few detectives working this case and putting it together. I liked the sheriff and all the the main and secondary characters. This story flowed at a good pace and the dialogue was crisp It has a little bit of a feeling of the show the first 48 hours not much but is is there. I liked how he made the rogue detective a good bad jerk he nuanced it so good with that character-he was such an asshole that you kind of liked him lol and that is not easy to do. Once again it had a very solid ending to it. The first book in the series was good but he was just getting started. The second book and this book the third one were balls to the wall very good. This guy is unknown but very good hope he gets his due. Give this series a big spin

This story has plenty of action and a number of twists and turns. For me, the ending was predictable and a little soft. Therefore, four stars instead of five. I did like it enough to read another of Colin Conway's books.

The Blind Trust by Colin Conway
A 509 Crime Story #3
Set in the 509 area code of Washington State this series deals with various law enforcement officers dedicated to solving crimes. This story has dysfunctional families for generations, greed aplenty, murders, twisted thinking, a cop that made me wonder why he was still on the force and the police procedural aspects that lead to the conclusions Jessup, Burkett and Delaney came up with to solve their cases.
What I liked:
* The way the story unfolded
* The police procedural aspects of the story
* The twist or two that surprised me
* Getting to see Dallas Nash from book two of the series
* Knowing that the murders were solved
* The character development
* Insider insight into how police might interact with one another on the job
What I did not like:
* The bad guys I was meant to dislike
* The blind trust that set the murders in motion
* Morgan
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I like to read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars -
In The Blind Trust, Conway juggles multiple storylines that may or may not have connections with great aplomb. Alternating between small town Sheriff Tom Jessup (he of the Murder By the Roadside fame), big(ish) city homicide investigators Delaney Burkett (leads from The Side Hustle), and shady police detective James Morgan, Conway weaves a tale about estranged brothers and broken families that will linger with you long after you finish the read. If you guess the ending, you're one of the few.
Conway excels at drawing characters that are vibrant and real, and in capturing the flavor of the different environments they are thrust into. Small town Colfax rightfully feels a world apart from the bigger city of Spokane, and the reader feels very present in each location due to Conway's succinct, crisp description. With the characters, each individual voice is varied, from speech patterns to how s/he sees the world, and the reader is drawn into the perspective of whoever's point of view is on display.
The mystery itself is a twisted mess (in a good way) and the author is entirely fair with the reader in terms of clues.
Another strong entry in the 509 series! -
Sheriff Tom Jessup is trying to determine if a death in his area is natural or homicide taking for granted the victim has no relatives because neighbors say he is a loner. Meanwhile Detectives Quinn and Marci have a double murder that ends of tying in with his. They figure out why the crimes relate but fail to prevent another murder.
Another Dectective -Morgan has leads he fails to share in a timely manner which contributes to the length of the investigation.
Its easy to guess the motive - money and that it must be a relative but it takes them all time to get there. -
Once Again, Another Slow Burner.
I didn’t read this book in one hit, as I did the the first 2 (and The Suit, book 4, which I read first). This tale was a bit disjointed. Not because it was bad, but because the ‘action’, was “all over the place”, in many different locations (potentially an FBI Case)? It wasn’t messy, it just wasn’t a seamless read for me.
I found this easier to read, once I treated it as an episodic drama, reading a few chapters per day, it flowed better that way.
I’m enjoying this series - nicely delivered. -
I found Conway to be very good at misdirection. Unfortunately, it all fell a bit flat for me.
I liked very few of the characters - and maybe Conway didn't intend for all of the characters to be likeable. A lot of the procedural details were awkwardly inserted and seemed to disrupt the narrative. Other than that, Conway's writing style was easy to follow, if a bit uneven.
I wish the Sheriff well in his next case, but I really don't think I was the intended audience for this series. -
Pretty good addition to a good series. The best? Not really. But really good anyway. Sheriff Jessup is a nice addition to the stable of 509 cops, and it's always fun to eavesdrop on Delaney and Burkett. Detective Morgan is another new face, one that is not such a good guy. Probably seriously corrupt. Be interesting to see what, if anything, happens with him down the road.
The plot in this book had enough twists and turns to keep anyone guessing, and even surprised. -
Good Read
I liked the book and the author's style. His writing mechanics were good. Since the book is a criminal mystery, my review of the storyline will be short. A trust fund and its dispersion was at the center of the crime that caused murder and theft. I did not see the resolution of the mystery until the end. The last sentence in the book brought up another mystery.
Thank you, Mr. Conway, for the read. -
EVERYONES LOOKING FOR THE SAME THING AND BECAUSE NO ONE WILL SHARE INFO THE CASES ARE NOT CONNECTING. I WONDER HOW ANYTHING GETS SOLVED WITH THIS MENTALLITY. I DON’T LIKE MARCI, I DO LIKE QUINN, MARCI SEEMS LIKE SHE WANTS TO BE THE PICTURE UNDER THE DEFINITION OF A” REAL BITCH”. I REALLY ENJOYED TRYING TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT. ;D -
A Family in trouble
This mystery felt like a lesson from a college setting class. List the problem, introduce the suspects, find a good and maybe bad cop, have a money reason for the killing. Just seemed maybe a little too tidy. They theory was good but the story didn't feel susoenceful. -
Came Into The Series On Book 3...
... but not a problem! This book stands on its own merit very well, and I most certainly will be reading the other books in the series. Great story with lots of twists and turns and a terrific conclusion. Heartily recommend this for anyone who is a fan of mystery/murder mystery/police procedurals. -
Another awesome book by Colin Conway. This guy just does not disappoint. Good solid writing and story lines. This time, he brings in a Sheriff from a small community that ties into a homicide in Spokane, WA. Just great!

The dynamic trio
Two Seattle detectives are approached by small town sheriff, to help solve a murder. One murder leads to much more!
I enjoyed the banter between the detectives(, the tight script and actions . Good read. -
Enjoyed this read
I really enjoyed this clean read. Well defined characters. Convoluted but believable plot not overused. Just enough suspense to keep the interest up. Satisfying win for the good guys. -
Very interesting story line.
I enjoyed reading Blind Trust. Kept me interested they the whole book. Only thing is I thought the way the story ended that Marci and Quinn would wind up together and I also thought the son would have wound up having something to do with the murders.
