We open with a bang.
Obviously Riverdale, Montana was going to be hell on his beloved vehicle. First the crazy woman with the SUV and now this.
Kate is pretty prickly.
Kylie gave her a knowing look. “You’re being a little irrational.” Kate was quiet for a moment. “I hate you.” Kylie smiled. “I love you too. Now admit you were wrong so we can go to the flea market. We’ll take my jeep.” Frowning, Kate looked up at Beau, those mutinous brown eyes of hers still smoldering. “I may have been at fault too.” He raised a brow. “May have?” “Okay! I hit your damned truck! I’m sorry! You want me to pay for the damage?” “That was payment enough.”
She also has strong opinions and makes Beau laugh.
“Agh!” Kate exclaimed, apparently losing her patience with everything. “The guy was an octopus. His hands were everywhere, and not in a good way. He was like a high school virgin making out on prom night. I was damn near trapped in the front seat of his VW Beetle—and it’s not vintage, incidentally. It’s candy apple red, with pink, fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror.” She scowled again. “He clearly has very little experience with women. Not only that, he smelled bad.”
Beau couldn’t help but grin at this. So that’s why she’d been so pissed the night before; she’d been coming home from a bad date.
“He is not gay,” Richard said emphatically, looking at Beau and Trey for help. Trey remained silent. Beau didn’t have that kind of self-control.
“Dude, the guy’s name is Wick and he drives a VW Beetle with pink dice hanging from the mirror.”
She is an awesome friend to Kylie
“Here,” she snapped, slapping Trey in the chest with a wrapped up box. He looked at her, surprised. “You shouldn’t have. It’s not my birthday, is it?” He looked at Beau, who shook his head.
“It’s not for you, moron. It’s for you to give to your wife,” Kate snapped, keeping her voice down. “You’re stressing her out with all of your wait until the baby’s here crap. She thinks you’re really worried she’s going to lose the baby again and that’s why you won’t let her buy anything.”
Trey stared at the wrapped package, with interest. “I am.”
“Don’t be so obtuse. I obviously know that you are. However, I am now thinking for you, Trey. I am a woman and you are a man. You cannot think like a man around a pregnant woman. Do you understand what I’m saying here?"
Beau and Kate have some tough luck.
“What is it with you and me and psychos?”
Her half-hearted attempt at humor made him chuckle. “I don’t know, baby. We just seem to attract trouble, you and me.”
“To say the least.”
Kate gets to know Beau as a real person and then is surprised when introduced into his "sports world".
The bellhop offered Beau two key cards and he shoved a folded up fifty dollar bill into the kid’s hand in return. Kate found her mouth dropping open again. “Close your mouth, Kate,” Beau said, as the door shut behind the bellhop.
“Did you just give that kid a fifty dollar bill?”
“I did.”
“I would have carried the bags up myself for that.”
Then the romance starts but they may not be on the same page.
“I don’t want you hurt, baby.” She reached up a finger and let it roam across his lower lip.
“Then don’t hurt me.”
He stared at her for a long time, almost as if he was trying to see inside her soul. Eventually he blew out a frustrated breath and shook his head. “When did this stop being just for fun?”
She was surprised that he said the words. She shrugged her shoulders, figuring she had no choice but to be honest with him.
“I guess when I started falling in love with you.” Once the words were out she felt better. Finally, she was being honest with not only herself, but also with him.
“Shit,” he said, his voice almost a whisper.
Shit was not exactly the response she was going for, but she wasn’t surprised to hear it. “You don’t need to say anything else. I don’t have expectations here.” She avoided his gaze, knowing she’d put him on the spot with the one thing he’d warned her about from the start.
“Kate—” he began.
“Can we just let this go for now? I had a really good day yesterday—probably the best ever. Today was right up there too. We’ve got one more night here and then it’s back to reality. I know what waits for me there, Beau. So let’s just have tonight.” It sounded corny, but it was how she felt.
“I care about you.” He spoke against her mouth, his lips soft and yielding. “More than I want to.”
But not enough, she figured out for herself. She didn’t say the words out loud. -
In the Eye of the Storm is by Jennifer Hayden. It is book 2 in the Callahans. It is a very good book and I had a hard time putting it down. The characters are fully developed and the plot is a tangled one. It takes place mainly in Montana.
Beau Callahan, a major league ball player, is finally coming home to Montana. He plans to stay with his brother Trey and his wife Kylie for a little while and hopefully see the rest of his family. He won’t stay long as his very presence cn cause them major problems. Beau is being stalked. He and the police have no idea who the person is but he has broken into Beau’s house several times, took things from the locker room, and sent perplexing but ominous messages. He knows Trey is probably still mad at him for missing his wedding; but at the time, he thought it safer for everyone. Hopefully this time he managed to get away from his stalker. On his way in, he stops for coffee and as he is backing out, he is hit by another car. The woman who hits him is very angry and blames him totally for the accident. There is little to no damage done to either car so he wants to forget it; but the woman won’t let it go. Finally she gives up and gets in her car to leave. Instead, she backs into a pole and crushes in the back door of her vehicle. Cursing under her breathe, she finally leaves. Beau is thankful to see her leave. He had enough of this crazy person.
Beau is greeted with love by Kylie. His brother is working so is not home. Kylie provides him a place to sleep and he gratefully accepts. The next morning, he is greeted by his brother and is having breakfast when a whirlwind opens the door. Kate begins to rant about the man who hit her car and whose truck is out front. Both Kate and Beau are embarrassed to find out that he is Trey’s brother and she is Kylie’s best friend. They have to make up for their friends’ sake
Will Beau and Kate really make up or only seem to for Trey and Kylie’s sake? Will the stalked show himself up here in Montana? Who hates Beau enough to threaten his family and friends? -
Baseball player with a crazy stalker gets out of town to visit his family and falls in love.
Whoops! I just finished reading
On A Night Like This which is a Callaways family story which was great and I totally misread that for this Callahan family series book which is a totally different close knit family that is spread all over the states.
So this is Beau Callahan's story. He is a big baseball player who is clearly the richest person in his sweet loving family, but that hasn't help him in the love department. So he puts in the fine print right away when he falls into bed with his brother's new wife's best friend Kate Nyland.
Beau is running away from a crazy stalker/theif/murderer at his brother's new home in Riverdale, Montana. Sounds like a crazy town if there is a hard working SWAT police officer which totally doesn't go with my country easy living stereotype that I have of Montana...
So Beau falls in love and makes some birth control mistakes, but I have a feeling that Kate was going to become his heavy girlfriend or wife no matter what mistakes had happened. Kate is a sassy ball buster who hasn't had much luck in the love department either so it was funny to see the two of them circling each other like in a dog fight.
Funny dialogue with some scary suspense to push along the story. I wonder if this author is a teacher because there was some realistic teaching situations for Kate.

I don't know what everyone else read as I hated everything about this book. Talk about ridiculous on so many levels. Oh how I wish I could get my money back on this one. If you want to read a romance that includes the most irritating and annoying heroine with friends who think her bitchiness is endearing; a hero who thinks he's helping his extended family by not telling them about a stalker that's been following him for over a year, yet stays with them for weeks on end with a gun no less; two people who fall in love even though there's absolutely no chemistry or heat between the two; and the so-called mystery-stalker plot that is anti-climactic; then by all means read this book that is so cliché.

This is a well written book with a thrilling storyline.
Beau and Kate were both nice characters.
Well, sometimes Kate was an over-the-top dramaqueen.
It was a good read. -
