The Nuisance Wife (The Henningtons #1) Reviews

Forgive but never forget
Our hero took the word of a friend that his wife had been unfaithful, even though she denied it. He evicted her from his home and took off to the orient for five or so years. But the heroine does not wallow. She opens a business and is doing fine on her own. Until he returns and petitions for a divorce. He was a very odd character and I really didn't like him in the beginning. But in trying to find his ex-friend to testify reveals some unsavory truths. And the rest of the book is him trying to repair his wrongs. And her trying to forgive him and learn to trust him again. I loved the wooing he did to get her back and the ending was very sweet. Perfectly safe, which I love, and free in KU. -
3.5 stars.
This another book with a revenge storyline by this author.
I usually loves them, but this one felt short.
The heroine just too kind and forgive the idiot too easily.
Yes, he was an idiot, not a mean hero. A total idiot who was end up ruining their happy life together for years.
Btw, I like the OM better and hopping she gave him a chance. But of course the idiot make it hard to happened 🙄. And later I found out that OM will be the hero for next book in the series, 🤷♀️.
However, like any other Camille’s books, once I started, it was hard to put it down:)
Yes, I still like this one too!

I read a month ago and never got around to writing my review. Here is what I remember (mostly): Very nicely written story with the wronged wife and the idiot husband. I loved the h, she was strong and capable. The H was a clueless idiot but he did some very nice grovel for a large part of the book.
This book was completely safe, and the fact that there's no cheating by either H/h is what convinced me to read it. -
I’ve put this on the “cheating” shelf because it’s the accusation of cheating that dooms their marriage.
Again, I question some of the historical accuracy, but I went with it anyway.
I like that once he realizes he was wrong, he apologized and wanted to fix the situation, of course he was 6 years too late.
3.5 stars rounded up. -
Talk about strong h's ... who have so moved on that the H has to work hard to get back in her good graces ... she calls him out on each of his stupidities and does not spare him on anything ...
he starts off self righteous and then is scrambling to keep up ... worth reading ... -
'The Nuisance Husband' is a more apt title.
The book has CO's favorite trope - the abandoned wife, with a looming divorce looming.
But this one doesn't entertain or wrench at heart as her others.A charmless beta H with a tendency to make a hash of things in life.
His excuse of being too young, too immature may or may not hold but he ruined a life, and veritably threw his wife to the wolves. She landed on her feet but I don't think it'd have been easy for her, in those times.
Now, he gets to know that maybe the man who alleged that his wife cheated was lying. So he can believe other people - then and now - but not the wife he professed to love.
Somnolent pace with nothing intersting, romantic or dramatic happening.
And that sudden capitulation by h? *smh*
I hope his siblings' books are more exciting. -
Edited 10.26.20 for all the typos. :)
While not perfect, this story was engaging and the heroine was admirable. It took a while for the hero to grow on me, but in the end I found myself liking him quite a lot too. He wasn’t too proud to own up to his gargantuan mistakes and do his best to make things right.
I do wish that the ending wasn’t quite so rushed. Overall, a solid and safe (even though the separation was so long!) read. -
Too rushed
I felt like their reconciliation was too rushed. It wasn’t a good grovel story that I was wishing for. I would’ve liked to have seen the man who broke them up come back and try to cause more trouble again and get his comeuppance. -
2.5, round up for the blunt and brutal honesty from h/H throughout. It was a slower book with way more details of day to day stuff than needed to the plot while skipping things like family seeing her again, him meeting her roommate ect. I felt his regret and attraction but I didn't feel much from her. She did such a good job locking down her heart not even the reader could tell when she warmed up until it happened. Then it abruptly ended and I was left flipping back and forth feeling like there should be more of the book.
Some of my GR friends hated the hero, I agree the proof was weak and the acquittal weaker. But his regret were sincere and heartfelt, there's strength in admitting how badly you f* up.
"I don't think I was ready to be your husband in every way it entailed. Don't get me wrong, I loved being your husband in terms of being in love and having a grand time, attending parties and the honeymoon—but everything else, the harder things, the blows. I don't think I had the maturity and wisdom to deal with them. I was too young. So when the first blow came, and it was a powerful one, I didn't know how to deal with it. Until then, the only things I worried about were losing poker games and incurring my father's displeasure." -
I really am liking this author.
I like her characters, how real they are, no crazy over the top antics. They are flawed human beings with authentic emotions. A misunderstanding and a betrayal that needs to be rectified.
A good second chance story. -
i expected a LOT more grovelling but it was cute.

No me gustó la traducción
El tratamiento tanto entre los hermanos, el padre, la amiga y el marido es de usted muy pomposo para mí gusto
