Piper Tate has cast a spell, making me into a man who blurts Italian endearments without thought. One who gives her full thumbprint access to my penthouse. A guy who makes her breakfast and serves it to her in my bed, even though it drives me crazy.

She's taken care of me--something I never thought I needed.

And yet, when she uses that access, I bail.

Who knew running away after an ethereal experience would cost you the girl?

Who knew I'd care?

The second volume In Faye byrds new series.
Just as gripping and wonderfully twisted and intense as the last one .

This was a tough Mafia story to connect with. I couldn't get behind the changing personality of "the monster" and Piper. He was hard to follow and hard to "get". He obviously had some major mental flaws that kept rising to the surface. The language ( and I am no wimp when it comes to bad language) was a bit over the top resulting in changing the dynamic of the story to "gutter trash" at times and took away from telling the story. I like good strong women characters especially in Mafia genre's. Piper's character was a combination of innocence, defiance and immaturity. He kept hurting her and she kept coming back like a good lap dog instead of a smart woman. Yes, she was a stripper but it wasn't like she couldn't get a job elsewhere.

Mafia genre's can change drastically based upon the writer; this one wasn't for me. It's worth a read just to see if this kind of story is something you like (thus the two stars). I never saw these two coming together as a couple, but that's the good thing about fiction; you can put two people together that wouldn't stand a chance in real life together in a book of fiction.
