Lust (Seven Deadly Sins, #2) Reviews
-
Up-front disclaimer: I am one of the contributing authors to Lust and have a vested interest in promoting it...but also want to be honest so my reviews are taken seriously and will hopefully help readers make an informed decision.
Lust, a collection of short stories by Black Hare Press, is a compelling anthology of tales that are sometimes erotic, sometimes violent, sometimes completely random and psychedelic (you'll know it when you read it), but always exploring the sin of lust and its effects on us. An enjoyable read.
I was particularly chuffed to find my own story, 'The Council of Six and a Half', featuring third in the anthology, and although I'd feared that my ideas of manifesting the Seven Sins as physical beings would be only one of many such stories, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a diversity of concepts and takes on the idea of lust that it stood on its own. Kudos to all authors: a perfect demonstration of the breadth of creativity you all possess.
From karmic justice to crazed sex robots, from impressionable monkeys to dating scams, this book takes us to the darkest parts of humanity (and the supernatural), and beyond, all in the name of lust and want.
Particular shout-outs to the following stories:
-Zantiel by G. Allen Wilbanks, for being a nicely-written, good all-rounder story with satisfying karmic balance
-Truly Human by Clint Foster and I Want You by Nerisha Kemrak, for a different take on the object of the characters' lust (a great balance to the dominance of carnal stories in the anthology)
-Primal Urging by Edward Ahern, for a great twist in a even greater story, that had me chuckling while being simultaneously creeped out (a true representation of what BHP stands for, IMO)
-The Red Pierce Reunion Tour by J. M. Meyer, for so vividly capturing the atmosphere of concerts that I'm having severe iso-depression now. Cheers.
-Prey by James Lipson and My Girl by Nicola Currie for twisted and dark tales of lust that had you racing through to see how they would end, engrossing yet repulsive
-Unplugged by M. Syndor Jr., for a creepy-as story that had me thinking about it long after it ended
Highly recommended read! -
