Madison Huntington is determined to live her dreams. That means getting out from under her family’s wealth and influence by saying no to the family business, her allowance, and her home. But on a teacher’s salary, the real world comes as a rude awakening—especially when she wakes up every morning on a colleague’s couch. To get a place of her own (without cockroaches, mold, or crime scene tape), Madison accepts a position as a roommaid. In exchange for free room and board, all she needs to do is keep her busy roommate’s penthouse clean and his dog company. So what if she’s never washed a dish in her life. She can figure this out, right?
Madison is pretty confident she can fake it well enough that Tyler Roth will never know the difference. The finance whiz is rich and privileged and navigates the same social circles as her parents—but to him she’s just a teacher in need of an apartment. He’s everything Madison has run from, but his kindhearted nature, stomach-fluttering smile, and unexpected insecurities only make her want to get closer. And Tyler is warming to the move.
Rewarding job. Perfect guy. Great future. With everything so right, what could go wrong? Madison is about to find out.

This book is fine if you just want a quick romance that won't require any deep thinking. The pacing and character development felt off to me, and there were several times when I just couldn't suspend my belief enough to go on (but I have a hard time not finishing a book, so I just complained to my husband/friends and pushed on). Neither Madison nor Tyler have any real personality characteristics, so if you like the kind of story where you can plug yourself in, this is your book. -
“𝑨 𝒈𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒂 𝒈𝒖𝒚 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅.”
I don't know why, I have been reading such romantic comedy books one after another for the last few days. Am I getting addicted🙄?! Anyway here come to the real topic, Yesterday i finished reading this one. It was a quick and easy read for me. Is it a little cheesy? A little. Predicable? Yes. It won’t be one that I consider life altering or super deep, but a cute story. The main characters seemed a little flat though. And I found no attraction between them. The author has managed to build their friendship well, but romantic relationship? Not so well. I didn't dislike the novel, I wouldn't say I like it either. This book is for those of you who are looking for something light after finishing a lot of heavy stories. Just don’t expect too much before starting the novel.
So I am giving this one a good 3.5 out of 5. -
This book is predictable but I think I gave this four stars for the fact that I was enjoying it. However, I was not really emotionally invested with the characters and the sexual tension wasn’t really intensifying. This may have to do with Tyler's body language which I find to be kinda featureless so it's very hard to get any indication of his interest in the early chapters. Or maybe for the lack of smut.
As much as I love Madison, I think Tyler was a bit bland. Not sure if it's because I'm so used to be fed with hot guys = bad guys ideology but fairly, I do encounter hot nice guys character too. It’s just Tyler seems so naive and appear uninteresting to me. But then again, maybe that what balances the plot since Madison grew up having so much shitty person around her and all she needs is just a simple, understanding & kind man. Madison herself is lovable, I love her passion, I really admire her compassion and kindness.
"... It was my teachers who encouraged me, made me feel supported. I usually felt unseen and unknown at home. My teachers made me feel seen and heard. I wanted to do the same for other kids."
This part was touching and what made me love Madison even more. Teachers are not often appreciated but it's good to see from a perspective how one may change their student's world and help them better. I never had that kind of teacher, they are out there but not to me. So seeing Madison appreciating a nice figure in her life that encouraged her to do the same was awe-inspiring.
All in all, I still love the romance and enjoy the book! -
This charming, light-as-a-feather romance was just what I needed to get me out of my reading rut! None of the characters or situations were even slightly realistic. But really, who cares when the romantic leads are so adorable, and they share a love for a rescue dog named Pigeon?
I highly recommend this if you just want something fun and lovely to lift your spirits. -
I can always count on Ms. Wilsons books, full of likable characters, fun plots and swoony romance! I was so excited when I won an advanced copy and received it right before a little vacation my family was going on. It was the perfect read for a long drive and relaxing by the pool.
This is a riches-to-rags type story as our heroine Madison, is cut-off from her very wealthy family when she decides to live her own life by becoming an elementary school teacher! Something that is just not allowed for a Huntington.
I enjoyed the unique premise for this story, how Madison and Tyler were roommates before being friends or more. I thought it was well written and engaging. I enjoyed following Madison on her journey and seeing how everything plays out. I hope we get books about her two best friends as well. Great book!

Well, this read was not what I was expecting. Having read the blurb, I thought I might get a dose of Sophie Kinsella-like writing. However, it was too sickly, too sweet and the protagonist? Well, she annoyed the hell out of me.

I enjoyed this story but I thought it was lacking romance. They're wasn't really a lot of scenes with the main characters together or actually getting to know one another so in the end I was left wanting more. -
3/5 ⭐
I can't say I didn't like this but also I wasn't a fan. The dynamic between the characters was sometimes made to look a bit clumsy and some key-details of the plot were off at times. However, the authenticity of Madison's mum was palpable because she reminded me a lot of the way my own dad is acting so for that I can definitely say that it wasn't entirely a bad read, even though there isn't a positive comparison I'm making between her mum and my dad. Even so, it seemed real. -
4.25 Stars
This was an enjoyable read about the slow burning romance between Tyler and Madison. I absolutely loved Madison and how strong she was throughout the book and her and Tyler just clicked and made the most adorable friends to lovers. But don't get me started on how disgusted I felt about Madison's family...ugh. -

The premise of Roommaid was here; however, it truly just fell flat being filled with privileged main characters, nonsense adult actions, and adding of pets that do not enhance the story.

How Adorable!!
How adorable!! This book was so much fun to read. I didn't want to put it down. I probably read through it too quickly which is generally the case when I love a book. I just can't help myself. Great characters, the cutest dog, growing friendship and attraction. Lightning kissing scenes. So good! I loved it! -
Free amazon book for Sep, just not for me. Maybe if you’re a cutesy 12yr old you’d enjoy this insaaaanely cheesy and stupidly written book. Sorry. That’s kind of mean but I felt like I was losing brain cells the further I read. The main character is an idiot, Tyler loves his dog and is oh so HOT (and that’s it, we don’t get any depth to his personality), everything’s so predictable, the parents disowned her yet still make her come over (wtf), Oksana’s character was random as hell (somebody please tell me why she has a key to his apartment still if they were never serious!?), and the whole entire story just felt like the author grabbed a bunch of scenes from random chick flicks and threw it all into a short ass book.

A HOT MESS GIRL AND A HOT GUY AS ODD COUPLE ROOMMATES IN A LUKEWARM ROMCOM
The clever play on words in the title alone – Roommaid is a funny take on “roommate” -- - made me want to love this romcom as a breakout fave of 2020. I clung to hope that it might give off similar vibes of brilliance as The Hating Game. That book is the gold star standard of originality, freshness, hilarity, bickering, and heartwarming romance. However, for all the sporadic smartness and fresh, entertaining banter which was quite impressive, it stumbled constantly in execution and a flat storyline. The evolution of this romance meandered without any sizzle.
The premise had me totally vibing on a down-on-her-luck rich girl and a poor boy-turned-rich financier becoming unlikely roomies from opposite backgrounds. It had a Cinderellaish twist of her living rent-free as his cleaning “maid.” Madison was cluelessly sassy as one of the “haves” who knows nothing about how the “have nots” actually live on a daily basis. She was TOO clueless, and the jokes about her ignorance of routine life in the real world without money always came at her expense. I was laughing at her, not with her. Her clueless naïveté was inconsistently funny. It got old fast and was ludicrous enough to reduce her to a cartoon caricature of adolescent thoughts and deeds. No one of her status is that clueless about life. She was like a little girl channeling 1980s’ Goldie Hawn romcom dumb blonde. The only place she could shine was as a socialite in the shark-infested waters of rich society, but couldn’t load a dishwasher or clean a window without creating a natural disaster. For crap sake, she’s a 2nd grade teacher who graduated college, not an alien visiting Earth for the first time who doesn’t know the basics of life. All the funny was about her extremely stupid mistakes, which were repetitive and one-note.
The MCs were such weird extremes in opposite directions that neither made any sense. Madison was too clueless about how the middle class lives, and nouveau riche Tyler was just as clueless about how the rich socialize. It made no sense for either of them even though they’re opposites attract with alot in common. He’s crazy rich but doesn’t know how to maneuver a social setting for work? That flaw in his perfectness gives Madison an opening to show off her skills to school him in society networking. That cute concept had so much potential that just fizzled away in lazy execution. The story drags with Madison’s idiotic antics in learning to be a maid, making OTT mistakes, and covering them up before Tyler finds out. They’re barely together in the first 61% of the book. He’s busy traveling (conveniently leaving her home alone) and she’s busy having girlfriend gab sessions that were actually quite entertaining about her poverty, school issues, family and ex-problems and her insane attraction for Tyler, but they never moved the story forward. She’s a hot mess and he’s a hot guy and they have chemistry. What happens is no surprise. They just take the long way to get there. The dog was cute, but mostly in the background and the OW/OM drama was lame on both sides and not worth mentioning.
The author squandered a fantastic opportunity for something special with an erratic storyline. The couple was more like roomies (I had zero bead on Tyler and his life) who rarely see each other, and it took too long to get the direction of the romantic escapade moving. Don’t expect any hot sex to go with all that hotness either. The evolution of their unwitting romance is totally predictable, which killed interest. This author has some real skills: a creative premise and a knack for funny/clever dialogue, but side characters were more engaging than the MCs. However, Madison’s thoughts and her comeback lines were very smart, just inconsistent. She was a bit of a stiff otherwise, and the dynamic between her Tyler lacked chemistry. Maybe I’ll finish it later …. -
Madison Huntington has had enough of her parents running her life--deciding what she studies, the job she'll have and more. She wants to be an elementary school teacher and she's going to show them she can do it on her own. She becomes the roommaid (roommate + maid) of Tyler Roth--clean up the main part of the apartment and help take care of his dog, Pigeon when he's away. Easy, peasy right? Well not if you're from a super wealthy family and you've never cleaned or cooked anything in your life.
I loved that Madison wanted to make it on her own, and she was willing to learn to do new things in order to make that happen. I felt bad for her when she had to use her money to pay for mistakes, like replacing the cast iron skillet, or repairing the dryer, but I was happy for her that she was really trying to do it on her own. I especially liked when she and Tyler had their "first" Christmas.
How cute was Tyler?!! What a guy helping to make paper pom poms for a school dance. And Pigeon, the rescue dog. I LOVED when she started bonding with Madison and sleeping with her. It was so sweet. I liked that Madison had two good friends (teachers from her school) that stuck by her and were there to support her. I hope we get to see them in another book soon.
I received a complimentary book from the author, but bought an ebook for my digital library. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own. -
2.75/5
Roommaid by Sarah Wilson is a classic slow-burn, roommates-to-lovers romance, very predictable with cutesy characters and moments. Madison is a fun (albeit completely clueless) character, and paired with the kind and charming Tyler makes for an adorable read. Oh, and there's also the part with Madison's cruel and wealthy parents who are trying to ruin her life. Madison's friends provide some hilarious side color to the story and I absolutely loved any moments they shared with each other.
The whole story is told from her POV, and we get dozens of paragraphs about how "hot and good looking" Tyler is, but apart from that we don't see much depth to his character. We barely scratch the surface with his own problems; and to add to that he is presented as a too-good-to-be-true character with absolutely no flaws, which makes him all the more unrealistic. Putting a few moments from his POV might have had the reader relate to him and his thoughts a bit more. Despite the author's best attempts, not much chemistry was felt between the lead characters, and left me wishing for a bit more.
Apart from that, if you're looking for a simple, straightforward romance read, this one checks many of the boxes and will definitely make you feel all warm inside. But don't expect any twists or a big story-line - you'll know how it's going to end about ten minutes in. -

* * * Spoiler Free-A Quick Review
Sometimes an idea can come to you, it has all these extras that fill your mind, and before you realize it, you have concepts, characters, and a plot.
At least, in my mind, I can see that happening. The trick is making sure all of these elements fit like a puzzle and the end result is as great as the ideas you first came up with.
Room-maid had a lot of situations that would seem to fall right into place and be perfect for a sitcom/romance...except for me, I felt there were many questions and actions that didn't work for me. Again, emphasis on me. I am sure many others will find it cute.

I’ve never read this author before, but this sounded cute.
This started well, I liked the writing style. And man, it’s so nice to read about a female character that’s light and happy and bubbly. Sometimes books get so bogged down in a characters endless emotional drama.
In saying that, this chick is ridiculous. To not even know how to work a dishwasher. Tragic. It didn’t endear me to her.
This was a fluffy sort of read, but I didn’t feel their connection. Not really for me. Maybe I would have liked it ten years ago. -
I really needed that. I have barely read anything this month. I have been in a swoony anime haze and clearly I needed an equally swoony book to bring me back.
All boxes checked on that front. Adorableness abounds in this book.
Highly recommended. -
Hmmm...Sarah Woods a new author to this reader. What did I think? This was a fast read and didn't enthuse me at all. It was the typical romantic read between two people. Could have been more for this reader.

3.5/5
When I first read the synopsis for this one I was reminded of Sophie Kinsella. You have Madison who’s a teacher that has been cut off from her family’s money after not falling in line and doing exactly what they want her do, from who she dates to what her career is. In her desperation she takes a “job” as a roommaid, think a roommate who also does some housekeeping in exchange for free rent. Her roommate is Tyler, a super smart and successful guy who looks like a supermodel because of course he does.
So a super cute premise that pretty much lived up to my expectations. Was it predictable? Absolutely, but I was in the mood for brain candy when I read this. It was super light and fluffy and didn’t require me to think, which lately is exactly what I need. It was light on the romance and had more of a chick lit feel with emphasis on Madison working on herself in terms of independence and less of a focus on her and Tyler’s budding relationship. So don’t go into this thinking it’s totally a romance, it had romantic elements but was really more about that aspect than anything else. -
Skipped through most of the book... didn't really feel any chemistry between Tyler and Madison either. It was so...dry..
Overall...nope -
I wish I could find a man to let me live in his house rent free and to cook for me. THE DREAM! Especially when it’s a hot man. I mean come on. Right off the bat I really loved the connection between Madison and Tyler. I liked that it seemed like they fell into a groove as roommates really quickly.
What I loved:
- Banter. Between Shay and Madison. Tyler and Madison. Madison and her family. It was all top tier
- The obsession with his dog. I’m the same way with all of my animals
- The flow of the story seemed effortless.
Wasn’t my favorite:
- Super slow burn until the last like 30 pages.
- How aggressively Tyler switched from being only interested in being roommates to being over the top into Madison.
- It ended SO abruptly. -
Rounding UP to 2 stars, only because the ending actually had substance. Heres a chapter by chapter summary of this book:
Ch 1: OMG hes so hot
Ch 2: OMG hes so hot
Ch 3: I hate being poor... but OMG hes so hot
Ch 4 -15: OMG hes so hot
Ch 16: His dog is cute and OMG hes so hot
Ch 17 - 24: OMG hes so hot and I wonder if he likes me?
Ch 25: OMG hes so hot
Ch 26: OMG hes so hot AND KISSING
Ch 27: Oh look! Plot.
Pick up literally any other RomCom. -
yeah, no. dnf atm

"When I’m with you, I never feel like I’m hiding. You see me."
"We always have a choice. Make the one that will make you happy."
Synopsis:
Madison grew up extremely wealthy, but when she went against the family expectations and became a second grade teacher she was cut off from the family money. Not wanting to live in apartments where people were murdered or overridden with bugs, she was presented an opportunity to move in with Tyler. He traveled quite a bit for his job and was looking for someone to live in his apartment, do some cleaning and look after his dog,
- "While I had zero experience with caring for dogs, I had even less with housekeeping. “I would have to clean?” Frederica seemed to have either forgotten how spoiled I’d been or didn’t consider it to be an obstacle. “Mm-hmm. You’d be his roommate who cleans. Oh! His roommaid!”
My Thoughts: The following are my thoughts about this book:
General:
- Trigger warning: none
- Setting: Houston, Texas
Characters:
- Tyler (26, occupation: something in finance):
- Grew up poor but is working in a job he doesn't necessarily like to "finance" his mom's lifestyle
- The following words/phrases were used to describe Hero: stunning, trustworthy, honest, strong, confident, sure of himself, handsome, sexy, magnetic, effortlessly charming
- Madison (23 or so, occupation: teacher):
- Comes from an extremely wealthy, snobbish and controlling family. It's their way or no way. There is no option to go against their wishes.
- "I’d grown up in one of the largest mansions in the state, nice things felt normal. Comfortable. But given my decision to become a teacher (a career choice my family heartily disagreed with by cutting me off, kicking me out of the house, and rescinding my trust fund), I was quickly finding out that on my salary I couldn’t afford said nice things. Or even semilivable things."
Story Thoughts:
- I liked Madison’s personality.
- I found it a little insulting in the beginning when it appeared the author was implying that a teacher couldn't afford anything better than a bug infested hole in the wall apartment. I guess later this made more sense.
- The "poor little rich girl" card got played too many times. Sure, considering how grew up she might not know how to run a dishwasher or dry clothes. But honestly, it just made her seem like she came from such a spoiled family and I found I couldn't connect with her. I mean, I don't need to spend $150 on moisturizer. The $10 bottle at the "normal" store works just fine. So, sometimes her pampered upbringing just made her seem un-relatable .
- She's a new teacher, but I found it odd that her friends couldn't advise her on the situation with the student. Instead, she gets advice from Tyler via his stepsister, who is never even talked about in the story? Huh?? I mean, why did Tyler even discuss the situation with his her and who even knew Tyler had a sibling in the first place? It just felt out of place.
- It seemed odd that the building guard would just allow Oksana to be admitted to the Penthouse.
- Tyler didn't make the family connection?? I call BS. You can't work for a company and not know the owner's last name. And once you have that name the dots are obvious.
- Her sister....she knew too much. Unless she was an expert eavesdropper she couldn’t know how everything unfolded unless someone clued her in on the plans. Therefore, I didn’t buy into that portion of the story. I think it would have worked better if the aunt (who was in on the plan) was the one to reveal the truth to Madison
- I didn’t really know Tyler that well. Only what Madison thought about him and the little bit of information he shared about his life.
- Tyler being so rich never really made sense to me. It wasn’t like he was an executive at the company so where exactly did all his wealth come from? This was a disconnect for me.
- The characters were a bit shallow. They didn't have a great deal of depth to them.
- I read this line and my hear squeezed just a little....my dad ❤️ always used to say this same thing. "houseguests, like fish, go bad after three days."

What's a disowned rich girl with an independent streak to do? Madison, a woman who has never cleaned a thing in her life, strikes a deal with wealthy Tyler to become his Roommaid in exchange for deep cleaning his penthouse apartment. Prepare yourself for some serious laugh-out-loud moments about a zany woman who is determined to follow her dreams and heart--away from her family's influence. But her teacher's salary definitely puts a damper on things. Good thing that Tyler is there to teach her the ropes. And a whole lot more.

I'm usually a big fan of SW, but this was okay. Cute, light and easy to read, but also not as engaging as some of her previous work. It was a little far fetched, but honestly it's a book so that didn't bother me.
