Aria and her sisters return to the Human Realm of Haven Falls to find one of their own that’s gone missing. They soon discover things have changed in the Human Realm and that nothing is what it seems, including Knox, the egotistical, self-centered, frustratingly gorgeous man who declared himself King during their absence.
Sparks fly when the two enter a fiery battle of wills as Aria learns she is more than just a witch in the Hecate bloodline; she is much, much more.
Will Aria embrace her savage side to find her sister and save her family, or will she burn to ashes from his heated kisses and burning hot embrace?
Knox has ulterior motives for being in Haven Falls and never expected the little witch to show up and brazenly challenge his rule.
It was supposed to be easy; get in and get out. Move pieces into place and set the stage for the war he’s been planning for over five hundred years. Aria is his sworn enemy but something within her calls to him and he hates himself for craving the fiery kisses that have reignited his cold, dead heart. One taste, and he thought he could get her out of his system. He was wrong.
Will Knox let go of the memories of the past, driving his need for revenge that will destroy the pretty little witch he craves, or will he push the boundaries to fight for and claim what is his by right? Either way, war is inevitable. And nothing will stop him from reaching for what is his.
Flames of Chaos (Legacy of the Nine Realms, #1) Reviews

this book went against everything i believe in
-
Wow, this book was definitely something. I can say with confidence I have never read a book like this before. Was it good? Definitely not. Was it terrible? The concept itself was terrible, but it was so comically bad that it eventually became entertaining
⚠️WARNING: The rest of the review will be 18+⚠️
We start off with our main bitch Aria returning home to Haven Falls with her sisters. Immediately upon returning to Haven Falls she runs into the ultimate fuckboy aka Knox, and right off the bat, their relationship is heated with both hatred and lust.
"I don't care who the fuck you are, or what last name you throw around. I own this fucking town. I will eat you for breakfast, little girl, and I enjoy eating pretty things."
"I hope that's not a metaphor for eating pussy! Aria is a virgin, and someone has to pop that overly ripe cherry!" Kinvara shouted
A completely normal thing to mention about your sister when you first meet someone new, right?!? That little exchange happened on page 13 lol and it pretty much set the tone for the rest of the novel. Unfortunately, Aria's virgin pussy ended up being a pivotal plot device throughout the entire book so there was no escaping it.
Things quickly became even more obnoxious because apparently, witches are horny motherfuckers so Aria and all of her sisters literally went into heat, causing all of the men to go batshit crazy.
“The difference between them and you is that yours is a virgin pussy, and the need to mount you will bypass most men’s moral compass. You are a rarity, and in the Nine Realms, men would track your scent and take what they want from you whether you wanted them to or not. Fix it, or I will.”
Like I said - no escaping the topic of Aria's virgin pussy 😫 This more or less continued for a large portion of the book because every character was obsessed with pheromones, scents, breeding, and having sex. In particular, the words "breed", "breeding", and "breeding bitches" were used probably a couple hundred times too many.
"I had no trouble ignoring the scent of breeding bitches, but Aria, her scent had me rock hard with the need to fuck her since the moment I smelled her in my domain."
Yikes. No thank you! Eventually, we do get to some actual sex scenes and I'm not going to lie... they were pretty great at first but then eventually became repetitive and OTT. Other than that, the writing was just sooo casually crude and I could not take it seriously.
“Yeah, but then she just zoomed on up the stairs and was like, ‘I need that dick, Knox,’ and you were like, ‘slide on down it, Aria.’ Meanwhile, we were all like, ‘who made the popcorn, because they’re about to fuck right here,’ but then you got all defensive and shit, and hid that honey pot as you plowed it.”
The last 100 pages felt like a completely different book and saved this from being a 1-star review. It sets everything up well for the sequels but I'm not going to read them.
I'm honestly not sure why I finished this book because I thought it was pretty terrible... but I guess there was just something entertaining about the awfulness that kept me going. I get there's definitely a market for this out there but I'm clearly not the target audience. Overall, I definitely would not recommend this book unless you know for a fact you are into this type of writing.
Steam Scale: 🔥🔥🔥/3
Swoon Scale: ❤️/3 -
What a fucking ride this book was!!!! The writing was superb and the storyline fabulous as well. I can't wait to read more from this new series by the amazingly talented Amelia Hutchins!!! This chick can write!!! I love paranormal romance with a passion because I love reading about all kinds of scary predatory beasties like the main character Knox!! He's a asshole anti hero if I ever saw one!! And even though He's a monster/beastie and I adore him!!! He is a true predator! He is set on revenge for the death of his son and the people of his kingdom by the Hecate witches over 500 years ago. Aria is one of the witches of the hecate line and said to be one of the most powerful. No one not even her sisters know who her father is except that he is a very powerful immortal so when knox walks right into the house of magic not only will he be the one to take aria's virginity and awaken the beast that has lived inside of her waiting for aria to become stronger theirs no going back and knox will not only meet his match in the new and powerful aria,he's about to find out that he's not the only alpha predator in the game and the battle has only begun. This book had it all action, fabulously interesting characters, dark humor and sexual banter with steamy erotic sex scenes that will have your kindle bursting in flames,it's one of those hot flash reads!!! My new obsession is Knox Karnavious!!! And his brothers aren't bad either!!! I would say that this paranormal erotica,so if you aren't comfortable with certain adult terms this isn't for you. But give it a try because it is done very well and I loved it. Can't wait to read book 2 Ashes of Chaos ! Until next time Luv's💕💋
“What the fuck would you know about love, Aria?” “That when I find it with the perfect mate, it better be exactly like that,” I whispered, smiling sadly. “I don’t want no basic bitch romance, I want to rip it apart and watch it grow from the ground up. I want to build it so fucking fortified that no one can ever touch it because me and my guy? -
1.5 this was a disturbing read stars.
The author is talented but the same story could’ve been told within (300) 1/2 the pages. The relationship between Knox & Aria became monotonous in its abuse. I’m not a fan of Knox. I honestly despised him & there is no redemption no matter the sad life event that prompted the behavior or the length of the books. I did enjoy the world & overall story arc. I suspect the next book may rate higher if we can limit the interaction between the H & h. It’s unlikely I’d recommend this series. This book was not a pleasant departure from reality.
Warning nearly 600 pages of Sexual abuse, derogatory behavior & language towards woman, emotionally unhealthy behavior etc. -
Literally, what was the plot
-
Zero stars.
Because this is a joke, right? It has to be. The abusive, vulgar, crude, boundries-what-boundries, manipulative and downright rapey male and the “I get wet when i am being choked against my will, oh no” heroine is a fucking joke.
In what fucking universe is this shit sexy? How is intimidating, constantly ignoring the rejections and boundries of the other person and demeaning them by turning them into nothing more than a warm hole in front of an entire room of males fucking acceptable? Who the fuck reads this shit?
I should have known this book deserved its rightful place in a burning garbage bin at the ends of the world when the author felt the need to justify the “raw, asshole, caveman character” (author’s own words, not mine) at the foreword. Now, I can confidently say I have read more than my fair share of novels with a romance sub-plot, new adult novels and eroticas. I saw some ridiculous shit (Remy from”Real”, anyone?). Never once have I been so outright disgusted by both halves of a love interest.
The author spends paragraphs upon paragraphs upon yet more paragraphs (not even kidding) going on and on about how the hero wants to fuck the heroine, how many times and over which desk, how he is constantly hard, how he has blue balls, how his dick is bursting from the seams, and and and. She switched to the male perspective halfway through 40% to deliver us the sexual frustration of this poor man and to also effectively dump the backstory on the readers like a bucket of water.
Another thing that got major eye roll points is the übersexualisation of fucking everything. Have you any idea how many times the author used the phrase “bend over a desk and fuck” until the 40ish% of the book? Like a broken record on repeat. The nipples are always “hard enough the cut glass”, eyes are constantly stuck on lips, the heroines clothes. always. get. wet. RIGHT BEFORE she has a scene with the hero!! What a coincidence!! Except it isn’t because the entire 40% of the book that I managed to suffer through, which adds up to more than 250 pages, is consisted of almost exclusively the scenes for the couple. Scattered here and there are vulgar sexual suggestions from other male characters and descriptions of how the 15 sisters of the heroine are always horny. The heroine magically has hair nowhere on her body except her head (really, its her “condition”), is the most powerful witch to ever grace the earth, yada yada yada.
There is absolutely no subtlety to the writing, no elegance to the “relationship”, no play of flirting, just raw animalistic instinct. If written well and at a dosage, that may work perfect, too. Except its more than 500 pages of it. Overexaggeration doesn’t even begin to cover it.
If I was able to move beyond the disbelief that this book could be taken seriously by any living person, I would shudder to think what kind of example is being set and what message is being sent to (especially young) audiences who do not have enough sexual experience or partners. Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting every book out there should be a manual on safe sex and healthy relationships, but they sure as fuck should not be actively trying to pass off indescribably (and ethically) wrong patterns of behavior as the norm to the extent this book is doing and even suggest a character who displays them could possibly have a “character arc”!!
I am angry at this book. I got no fucking clue how it got rated this high, the shit’s the second wave FSoG. Go throw it in a dumpster fire. -
The Next Big Talked About Series
Knox & Aria have been brewing since the release of Fighting Destiny. All the greatness we've seen throughout Fae Chronicles and spinoffs are ingredients too these two characters!
Amelia hasn't outgrown Faery, but if Flames of Chaos is any indication of what we can expect from the 9 Realms series, well, I'm gonna say Faery might have found it's match! To be honest people, I'm not sure even Amelia can top Knox and Aria!
Comedy!! Yes everyone, Amelia has become hilarious! I cracked up so many times I lost count! Seriously laughing out loud unable to read through the tears of laughter! Omg Amelia has lost her damn mind!!! It's so funny and her comedic delivery is perfect!
The storyline🤔 that's tough to talk about without teasers! Knox and Aria play a cat-and-mouse game that has a surprise, untried by Amelia previously! The witches come home to search for their sister. Upon arrival Knox informs them the he is now King of their home. Aria and her sisters must now deal with a mysterious disappearance and Knox's interrogations and arrogance. The sparks that fly are metaphorical and physical regarding several situations!
Overall you'll feel like you've just met this group but you're already old friends! The only discordant melody I heard in my head throughout the entire story is how fast it moves! I would have personally loved to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel more of everything. Luckily, there's plenty more books in the series to give us that!
Amelia's best protagonist yet! -
It's always pretty sucky when you just can't seem to appreciate a book the way most others seem to be enjoying it, makes you wonder, "Was I reading the same book?” This kind of trope would also normally really be my thing (based on the synopsis).
To start off... Two chapters in and the amount of times the word "f**k/f**king/f**ked" was used in just two small chapters, made me recall one of my gran's favourite lectures: "Swearing is a lack of imagination". I'm no prude when it comes to swearing, but it just lent a level of crassness and juvenility to a book which I thought would be a bit more mature in nature.
I'm also all for a enemies-to-lovers story, but I find it irritating when the characters are unnecessarily abusive and unkind towards one another.
I'm just going to have to resign myself to the fact that I'm one of the minority who just could not get into the book. -
Why are all the characters so crude good God. I honestly think I could have lived without having the whole cast of characters seeing Aria in her birthday suit every two pages.
Note to self: don’t trust BookTok recommendations please. -
Me : I really want to write a short review on this book.
... turns out it isn't that short.
This book is dark, brutal, graphic and it really needs a disclaimer.
📝 Note* It is 18+ and I really, REALLY, don't recommend it if you are underage.
You want to know how I stumbled upon this book? Booktok, fucking Book. Tok. And I'm still asking myself why, oh why nobody mentioned this book is this messy.
If you want to read this book, you need to take it as what it is. FICTION. Don't think, for one moment, that their relationship, or his behavior toward her, is healthy.
Nothing in this book is censored.
And I mean, NOTHING.
There are a few characters really fucked up, and I swear this book is "wtf material".
So don't dive into this book expecting cute and sweet romance, cuddling and passionate kisses or I don't know, anything romantic. You'll get none of that.
What you'll get though, is madness. Sex scenes in almost in every chapter, some of which I must mention are brutal AND nasty. These may be triggering for some people.
*There are also some scenes where different methods of abuse are described in graphic details + some gory scenes that some people would find disturbing.
The plot is mostly centered on a relationship between two ... creatures, but there is an interesting subplot that I enjoyed reading about. The worldbuilding could've been better, it was still good not gonna lie.
The males here, some of them, almost ALL of them, are toxic and they're all driven by lust.
"I am the wolf that hunts the lambs, and you are fucking delicious"
Knox, our main male is a dark character, a monster in a human body, arrogant, self-centered and who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty if that means achieving his goal.
We get a few chapters from his perspective and I'll leave you a few quotes down bellow.
"Aria was delicate. I wasn’t. She was all soft curves and smooth flesh. I was jagged edges; sharply defined sinewy, hard muscles. Aria was created of lace and innocence. I was all brutality and ancient."
"She was innocent smiles and beauty. I was violence and ageless death."
"Aria was pure innocence and I wanted to corrupt her in the most delicious, basic way. I wanted to debase everything pure within her and see what she did with it. See if she unraveled and liked the end result."
Do you think this is sweet? Yeah, maybe, in a twisted way.
"I wanted to set the little bitch on fire and watch as she burned; to see what the fuck stepped out of the ashes when she rose still covered in the dust. I wanted to set her world on fire and fuck her in the ashes of it, watching as she realized just how ruined she was when I was finished with her."
"Don’t worry, I won’t let them get you. If anyone gets to break your pretty little neck, it’s me."
"You say the sweetest shit to me, jerk."
Just so you know what to expect.
"I choose my fate and my chaos, and what I allow to happen to me is on me, no one else."
Our Mc, Aria is a strong female lead who is no one's bitch. She doesn't let anyone order her around, define, control, use or shape her to fit their view or needs. She bows to no one. She's a badass. She wants, she takes. She doesn't play around. You threatening her family? You can start praying, because she does not forgive. She's powerful, determinate, and I personally love her.
"Aria was all fire and about to set the world ablaze in her wake."
"Those are the flames of your chaos, Aria. You could set the entire world on fire if you chose to do so."
"You can throw me to the wolves… or, in this case, whatever the hell they are, but I won’t fall, and I won’t break. You will, though, Amara, that much I promise you."
"I’m a woman, Knox. We only need a few minutes to rain hell down upon men. I wish you luck because you will need it. I’m about to rattle your fucking soul and bring you to your knees."
A few other quotes I liked :
"I felt his need to learn every detail about my body. The need to bury himself so deep within me that I’d scream for him was violently exposed in his gaze. It was a raw, animalistic need that I shouldn’t want, and yet I did."
"You’re wrong, King of Lies," I said, smiling impishly. "I am no weakling, and no matter how far you bury me in chains, I will fucking rattle them until they break, and I am free of you. You want to burn my world down? Fine, but you will watch me rise from the ashes."
"Life is a bitch, and you can let it destroy you, or you can face it head- on and show that it doesn’t define who you choose to become in life.”
"I’m not a lamb that you can hunt. I’m the woman who rattles your beast. I intend to shake your entire fucking realm"
So this was it. There are a few good quotes in this book, a pretty good plot and strong characters, but there are also these other things to consider before reading it.
I enjoyed it and I'll read the rest of the series, but I won't recommend it to anyone.
TW : rape, torture, abuse, violence against women, toxic & twisted behavior -
Rating- 5 amazing and will be reread many times
Heat- 5
Tropes- heroine who doesn’t know what she is, big bad hero who doesn’t love
Amelia Hutchins has done it again! She is quickly becoming the queen of fantasy romance.
Aria is a witch, but not just any witch. She is a member of the ruling family of witches and a descendant of Hecate. Her family left their kingdoms in the care of others to come live in our world, but the mess her ancestors left behind is about to bite her in the ass. While trying to find her missing twin, Aria meets Knox, a mysterious and dangerous man who declares himself king. Knox calls to Aria on a bone-deep level, but she knows he has an agenda. Knox also feels the connection to Aria, but she doesn’t fit into his plans for revenge.
Knox is a hero only Hutchins could write. Hutchins has a talent for writing men that make you walk the thin line between love and hate. Knox is an asshole, but we are given just enough glimpses into his mind to not only understand his reasons but to genuinely like him. He is clearly torn between wanting to hurt Aria and wanting to save and savor her.
Knox’s actions walk right up to the line that would make him irredeemable, but then he doesn’t cross it. Sometimes he chooses not to, but there are other times that circumstances stop him and we are left wondering if he would have gone through with it. The chemistry between him and Aria is palpable but so is their pain.
Aria is a badass bitch. She is an amazing heroine that gives us everything we could possibly want. She is powerful and kicks butt but is still coming into her own. She is snarky and funny. She is vulnerable but doesn’t let anyone walk all over her.
I will be counting down the days until book 2 is released. -
Wow! This book... I have soooo many words running through my head that I could use to describe it but I dont think they will do it justice. Flames of Chaos is spectacular, intriguing, wickedly sinful and wildly hilarious. I hope that sparks your interests.
I may be a little bias, since Amelia is on my list of favorite authors, but this book just rose to the top of my all time favorites. Aria and Knox are incredible and their chemistry is.off the charts HOT! Be aware ladies and some gents things are going to get steamy. Also, get ready to laugh your ass off. I remember seeing a review mentioning Aria throwing a dollar bill at Dimitri... I completely agree, if you read this. I especially loved and came completely undone about 3/4 of the way through the book. There is a particular dialogue that had me choking back my laughter, due to the fact I was in office, and it slayed me. Now I know your intrigued and probably wondering "what the hell am I talking about". Well... BUY the book!
Happy reading! -
10 fucking phenomenal stars ⭐️
A 5 star review is just not enough. I have no words to describe how much I loved this book. -
“She’d be a broken, destroyed thing that no amount of magic could fix, and it terrified her—and worse, it excited her."
Flames of Chaos is the first in the Legacy of the Nine Realms Series. Amelia Hutchins is the queen of paranormal romance, and this series proves that her reign is only at the beginning! Aria Primrose is a spunky witch living in the modern world. She and her sisters have done their best to do right by their coven, and when evil forces threaten their existence, Aria returns home to try to make things right. When she meets Knox, she knows that he is a force to be reckoned with. Aria isn't clear about her role in the world, but she knows that she needs to be strong and that Knox is not exactly who he seems.“Are you planning to fight me, or fuck me, little monster?”
Told in dual POV, Flames of Chaos is complex and full of twists and turns. Knox and Aria despise one another, and yet, they are drawn to each other and cannot help but stir up trouble wherever they go! The mystery of the broody and overbearing Knox kept me glued to the pages as I could not wait to see what trouble he would stir up next!“It matters little in which order the events occur.”
Overall, Flames of Chaos is an explosive start to the Legacy Series and the audible performance was impeccable with outstanding voice actors. Aria is an unbelievable heroine, and her strength and perseverance are inspiring. I look forward to more of this series! I am dying to find out what happens next! No doubt Ms. Hutchins is sure to deliver!

This was okay but i won't be reading the next one.
Fantasy part, that was great, i really enjoyed the word Amelia has created, the rest was just repetative and started to work on my nerves.
More than a half of the book I had to read about how Aria was dripping wet.
Nox was willing /not/willing/not/willing to fuck Aria..
"after a couple of times"
And repetitive writing about bending
"but because you reek of the need to be bent over and made into a woman.”
“Fixing it without bending you over,”
Bending you...Bending you...Bending you...................
We also have pussy, virgin pussy and dick generously throwing every damn chapter!
All that push and pull gets boring really fast! -
Flames of Chaos. Could also have been titled: Flames of What the Flying Bent Fuck?! -did I just read? But oke. This book was chaos. In may ways. Havoc even. And I am more disturbed than confused after reading it, but alright...let me try and shed some light onto this very dark and twisted/bent (because that word has def not been used enough lol) story.
Firstly, this book came with a disclaimer/warning. Seriously, the first few pages are a message from Hutchins to her readers, pretty much explaining why all her characters are assholes (and admitting that they are, at least at the beginning), that she is not writing love stories, her male characters are not necessarily even one step above cavemen and that she puts her female characters through hell and back again. Or something along those lines. I advise anyone to heed those warnings. Hutchins is, unlike her characters, not fucking around here.
Onto the book. We have a female heroine and she is a virgin. Why am I surprised? Of course she is. And of course her lack of experience, purity and naivité is super sexy and super alluring (without her knowing) and everyone and their brothers and fathers (yes, seriously) are wanting some of that untouched damsel ordure. Put a twisted sister (or 14 of them), a sexually adventurous mother, some questions about heritage and belonging as well as a seriously disturbing and abusive anti-hero type of the walking sex-on-a-stick-main-male-character/sex-interest-kind with a troubled past to the mix and---yeah, that's pretty much it. Pair it with hardly any other than rushed plot lines, except for the many sexually loaded scenes, strong language that makes it all sound so weak and weird and---yeah, that's pretty much all you get.
Is that enough? For me, not so much. I found little pleasure in scenes that reeked of or screamed of rape and other kinds of abuse and while I think the story idea itself (which could be explained in three sentences) has potential, all the sexual potency that is constantly being thrown around in the most disgusting ways, destroys it. I am also confident that Hutchins will not manage to redeem her male hero in my eyes. However, she claimed she would successfully so so at least at the end of the series and I might just let her try.
Mind you, I did read some reviews before jumping into this book, so I had been warned. My curiosity just got the better of me, because even the negative reviews encouraged people to read the book because it is ridiculous to the point of ridiculously hilarious. Not sure I agree with that though. I think for me there is a certain point where the abuse of a character, no matter how absurd the scene may be, stops being funny.
So to anyone planning on reading this, keep this in mind :-) -
this is the kind of story that takes two steps forward, one step back on every page. its too long, tedious, and requires so much patience to get through.
luckily, things start getting interesting around the halfway mark and i become more invested in how the story would play out. the pacing and writing does remain slow - i just didnt mind it as much because the story felt like it finally had a direction and wasnt just meandering about.
i know many readers will find some (*cough* most *cough*) of the content problematic, and im inclined to agree. but this story falls under my criteria for guilty-pleasure reads as i am willing to ignore all of the obvious issues because its oddly enjoyable.
↠ 3.5 stars -
I'm so excited I want to know more about this new release!
If it's anything like the fae chronicles I'm already involved 😍 -
Was this the most amazing book I’ve ever read !? NOPE. However, Amelia writes my sort of guilty pleasure books. It’s full of ass hole alpha men, toxic relationships ( nothing about it is healthy) but for whatever reason her books and stories pull me in. I always have fun, laugh my ass off and keep wanting more. Also I’m sorry, but they’re are some sexy ass men in her books maybe I’m just reading for them lol? If you are under 18 do not read these books, if you don’t like blushing or reading about sex explicitly, and lots of crude language, don’t read this lol. Her books are on the more taboo side :) They always take you on a wild ride though !!
-
The most confused I have been in a while.....
Let's start shall we?
First things first, I have never been in a situation like this where I wasn't sure if I liked either of the characters or not. When I say that these characters are flawed...oh I mean they are flawed. And when I say flawed, I don't mean the "oh they are so misunderstood, mysterious flawed" type . I've finished the damn book yet I am still unsure about these two. Yes. Both the hero and heroine.
But having read Amelia Hutchin's books before, I know they will redeem themselves as the series progresses on. I should also say that Amelia Hutchins wrote I quote "chances are you may not fall instantly in love with him, that’s because I don’t write men you instantly love". Boy was she right!
Knox can take the crown as the king of assholes!
Flame of chaos is disturbing...I've read my fair share of books by Amelia Hutchins but this one was graphic... Hello the last few chapters. That will forever give me nightmares. But hey it's not like Amelia Hutchins didn't warn us about this book being dark. Cause it's DARK AF!
Were there were also parts in this book that found me saying " was that REALLY necessary?!" Yes yes yes.
Having said all this, I will say that this book IS fast paced.. did I mention dark? Is it sensual? Beyond your wildest dreams! 🤯
Did I forgot to mention that this book WILL push your buttons..a Lot!
DO NOT...I REPEAT....DO NOT EXPECT this book to be YOUR TYPICAL FANTASY/PNR ROMANCE! Amelia Hutchin's books are never cookie cutter... She always takes you for a CRAZY CRAZY ride. You might not enjoy some parts of it but by the end, you will want more.
Even after saying all that, I am beyond excited to read book 2!
Phew! I am exhausted after reading this book. I feel drained! -
This book could not have packed any more of a punch. I laughed, I cried, I got mad, then I laughed again. I love this new world that Amelia has created and cannot wait to read all the wonderful tales she will spin for Aria and Knox. If they are anything like Flames of Chaos, then I’m in for a fun ride!
Aria is a strong-willed, no-nonsense witch that comes from the Hecate bloodline. She and her sisters have moved back to Haven Falls to find their sister, Amara, who has gone missing. She immediately meets Knox, and the story takes off at light speed.
Knox is the kind of character that will elicit strong feelings! You will feel them all for this character, which is a specialty of Amelia’s. Knox is on a mission of his own and Aria has just thrown a huge wrench in his plans. He thinks he has everything planned out, but he got something more than he bargained for when he met Aria Hecate.
This is hands-down the best book of Amelia’s that I have read to date. Each book she writes is better than the one before it, so I can’t wait to read book two in this series.
Warning; you will not want to put this book down, so schedule your day(s) off accordingly. -
4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Life is a bitch, and you can let it destroy you, or you can face it head-on and show that it doesn’t define who you choose to become in life.”
Flames of Chaos, the first book in the new series, Legacy of the Nine Realms from the one and only Amelia Hutchins, “The Badass”😍. What I love about her is the world she creates. She gives us something that we could definitely enjoy and be immersed with. I don’t know how she does it and I’m really wondering what’s going on her wonderful head now 😂
I like the suspense and the mystery the story provided. It also has interesting characters, the creature within Aria is sure is funny 😂. As for Knox I really don’t know how he will redeem himself 🤔🙄. Sadly, I’m not a fan of his POV, it was repetitive. 😟 We also have Aria's sisters, Branden and Lore.😁
I can’t wait to explore more of the Nine Realms with Aria & Knox 🤗
Intriguing start to a gorgeous new series👌🏻👍🏻 -
So before I write anything at ALL - I've actually read some of the reviews for this book and some of them rated it really bad because of well..the usual complaining about the heroin/hero being dicks, controlling, pervasive, the violent sex and so forth - I think one person called it "rapey" (whatever that means), despite the fact that there is a clear difference and a line in this book in regards to what is indeed rape scenes, and what isn't and how our characters feel about these things etc.
I actually urge you to continue on to book 2 as you will be introduced to some things there that might make you change your tune or possibly see that our dear Aria is absolutely capable of holding her own and in her own words - Kneels to no one. She's actually a very very strong woman with a very clear good compass.
So I want to put in my own footnote regarding these things in the book! :D
STOP PUTTING HUMAN EMOTIONS AND MORALS AS A COMPASS WHEN READING THIS BOOK!
Doing so will most likely disappoint you - because..news flash? NO ONE IN THIS BOOK IS HUMAN!!
Ergo putting HUMAN into this world is just...wrong. This is a completely different world, and a completely different set of rules depending on what species we are talking about.
Also, there is a very good example of the moral compass that Aria follows, when it's explained how the Werewolves packs function and the females' role there. And why Aria has issues with this. /shrug
Phew. Ok, I got that out of me. :D Sorry, but I just had to yell it from the rooftops. I can't help it.
I waited quite a while to read this book, I waited until the 2nd one was released, because I already knew there was going to be a fantastic cliffhanger at the end in true Amelia style - and I wanted to be able to just simply open the next one. hehe.
But also because I invested so much time into the Fey Chronicles universe that I needed to let it rest a bit so as not to accidentally compare the two.
Saying that I do feel I recognize a little bit between for example Few Chronicles and Playing with Monsters series. I feel like I can see a bit of both main characters from those books - in this book here. What I mean by that is that I see a lot of Lena + Synthia in Aria and I see a lot of Lucien + Ryder in Knox.
It's a good combination I feel and I welcomed it, it doesn't stand out so if you haven't read any of the other books from Amelia, you would ofc. not notice, but I have read the other books so many times now that to me I felt there were many similarities. But I welcomed them.
This book series is Fantasy, and the world-building for Legacy of the Nine Realms series is just as epic as I felt it was in the Fay Chronicles.
The fighting is very good, though we don't see too much of this (spoiler - we see a fuck tonne in book 2) on a large scale, rather we see many...shall we call them....duels? Disagreements? Fight for your life? But on a smaller scale, not so much huuuuuge battles.
Arias is a very very strong heroine, at times she does annoy me a bit, but she is quite young for a Witch, she's 24 years old - and because she's very young, along with some of her sad life experiences by the hands of her own mother, she can be a little jaded, but it all builds on her character. She's fierce and loyal and she loves deeply. She also has no problems putting you to death should you break the law and so forth, hehe.
The book is mostly set in the 10th realm, which is our human plane in a smallish town full of the supernatural. It is the home base for this 10th realm. The "nine realms" refers to their homeland, aka the lands of "Fantasy".
When Knox is introduced we quickly find out that he's something completely different to what everyone is used to. He's dangerous and extremely powerful.
Knox is from one of the so-called "beast" realms - I think that would be accurate, but we don't know what *kind* of a beast he has inside him. Together we find out that Aria is also an "unknown" but her inner beast is similar to his, and his and her beast? They kind of like each other. hehe
The sex is full throttle in this book, there's fighting, battle - there's "I want to fuck you then eat you" type of sex, I mean we are talking about besties here after all. ;)
But the book also has a lot of good humour, I found myself laughing quite a bit. There are some sad parts, Knox's past is def. one of the things that made me cry. He's a man that's lost everything, and he is so full of rage and set for vengeance that it is negatively impacting him - and it is standing in the way of happiness.
Their love story is a very clear love/hate relationship, where most of the time they are arguing and throwing mud - love is not really ever mentioned, but it is through actions we can clearly see that feelings are involved. However, neither of them are ready to see that. Knox is on a mission, Aria is on a mission, and it is sadly - not the same one, so heads def. collide! hehe
I could go on and on about this book, but I could not put it down. I found it fun, heart-wrenching, incredible, sexy and so forth.
It's a def. 5* from me, and I am currently finishing up the 2nd one. Def. continue the series, even if you are on the fence. The 2nd book really does bring more to the table. -
4.5 lots of drama stars- review updated below
I’ve been in a book slump for years. I read this book in less than two days. The world Hutchins has created is amazing. I can’t wait until book two is released.
UPDATED REVIEW AFTER 2022 REREAD (possible spoilers)
Oh damn. I did not realize how much drama was in this book 😅😂. After taking notes, it might not be a safe read for many. My love for this series stems from the fact that I was in a 5+ year book slump before I read this years ago, so it has a sentimental place in my heart (otherwise, my score would be lower).
Aria (24/25) is a witch, well, half of one. Her “loose” of a mother birthed 8 twins, and each set of twins is unique. Aria’s twin sister’s missing and hasn’t had her phone on for weeks. So Aria and her sisters go back to their childhood home of Haven Falls, a city were immortal beings live, to their House of Magic. Amara, her twin, was the one representing their family in the council, but she hasn’t even been doing a good job. When they enter Haven Falls, they get confronted by a powerful being- Knox (1000 ish) who tries to kick them out.
Knox hates witches. It’s because of them that he witnessed his son go through 1000 deaths centuries ago which caused the eventual suicide of his wife. Witches are too smexxual and only care about themselves, so he instantly hates Aria and her family, even though she wasn’t alive when all of this happened. Of course, this becomes a problem for Aria, who not only dislikes his stereotyping of all witches, especially since he’s limping all of them together, but can’t stand that he has unfound hate for people he doesn’t even know. The biggest reason why her wrong is because… well, she’s a virgin.
Yup. This “smexxual” witch has never been intimate with anyone, which is unheard of. She’s always felt physically ill whenever the opportunity arose. Not even a kiss, which Knox quickly finds out about. On top of this hatred he feels, both Knox and Aria connect instantly. Their inner creatures want each other, even if Knox and Aria don’t. Which leads me to…
The CHEMISTRY. Oh. Sweet Jeeezus🥵🔥… there’s so much chemistry. These two are more drawn to each other than moths to a flame, than bees to honey, than mosquitoes to blood. They’re in the same room, POOF, underwear disintegrates 😅. The things her body does when he commands her is 🔥🥵. Look. Aria is feisty. She tries to fight this attraction because she NO DOORMAT, but Knox doesn’t let her get very far in this fight 😉. I will never look at PINEAPPLES the same 🥵. He takes foreplay to another level 🤤. The tattooing scene 😅🔥. Even the scene where he breaks into her room and forces her hand to… um… self-soothe herself was 🥵. There’s tons and tons of smexxxy situations and time. And it doesn’t take away from the hate they feel 😂 (which I didn’t mind at all 😉).
There’s a lot of shady stuff happening in Haven Falls. From the House of Magic not protecting Aria and her sisters, to the portals opening up allowing any creature to enter, to the attempts to kill Aria, I’m surprised she’s still alive. Even though Knox has deep hatred for witches, he’s constantly saving her or taking care of her. There are so many glimpses of his sweet/caring side.. but there’s still so much darkness in him. I’m glad I’ve read books 1-3, so I know the direction that this is going in.
THE CREATURE WITHIN ARIA CRACKED ME UP so much 😂🤣🤣🤣. The scene where Aria’s forced to take a backseat when the creatures smexxes Knox was everything! Gahhh. I needed the comedic relief lol.
Overall, I still really enjoyed this book.
⚠️safety squad⚠️ (spoilers)
-no cheating/sharing
-dubcon/violence/bloodshed/gore
-h is a virgin/H is not- he’s been widowed for centuries
-praise kink/blood play/breath play/edging/exhibitionism
LOTS of OP drama- I’m gonna summarize or else it’d be longer than my review
-OW- 3 of them. 1 he smexxes after meeting h early in the book (we find out later in the book though). This same OW was being smexxed after h and H show interest in each other, but it wasn’t the H who smexxed her (the h thinks it’s the H, but it’s not). He asked OW2 to get down on her knees but then has her get up since he’s only thinking of the h. No nudity anywhere (but he still asked her 😒). 3 is his date that he uses to get h jealous when he sees h dancing with OM2 who kisses h sensually. OW3 also rubs herself on H (while h is dancing/kissing OM2)
-OM- 3 of them. h hasn’t even been able to react to boys/men but reacts to OM and H. OM is H’s brother. She asks OM to take her v in order to get the blood of a virgin witch for a spell (h and H are hating each other too much to get H to take her v). h thinks OM is going to take her v, but H is actually the one that does it (she was blindfolded and tied up). H is too j/p to allow her to be smexxed anyone other than him. After H and h are intimate, OM2 wants h. OM2 dances sensually with h and kisses her (while H is watching with his date). OM2 smexxes tons of women but keeps thinking of h. He even presents himself to h. She rejects him. OM3 smexually a$$aults h (not his d) and bruises her up. -

”This war was just getting started, and I had been born to wage it against him.”
Let’s just say you should seriously have a cold shower ready at any time while reading this book! Haha it’s sexy, intense, brutal and savage in all the best possible ways.
This books gives “enemies-to-lovers” a whole new meaning. I’m not even sure Aria and Knox could be considered lovers, but how could they not? Confusing right? Haha you’ll just have to read to find out why..Everyone in this story was horny haha and you’ll never look at a pineapple the same way again :)
I’ve never read the fae chronicles but I just might because the world in this book was so interesting and amazing to me. I’m excited to read the next book to read more about the different realm and the portals.
There were so many characters I loved in this book and of course, a couple I hated. Knox was... sheesh Knox was probably someone we should hate but I was seriously turned on by him. I feel you Aria, I really do! *purrs from deep within my chest* ;)
I would HIGHLY recommend everyone read the warning that’s at the beginning of the book. This book gets pretty brutal and can trigger certain readers, so please read the warning!!!
5/5 🌟’s -
This was awful. That's really all I can say about it.
I don't really understand why people loved these character since they were all underdeveloped with personalities that boiled down to horny porridge. The storyline was barely coherent.
I felt like I was reading a fanfiction fever dream for 50% of the book. The other 50 was spent talking about how the main character needed to be "bred" to get her "under control." So, in case anyone was wondering, there was some romantic misogyny in this one. Yum.
My favorite part was when the main character stripped off all of her clothes and tried to fuck everybody in sight. Apparently it was a dominance thing but she was pretty fucking beta if that was the case since she instantly got trapped by our lead guy.
I just... why did I buy this book? I have so many regrets right now. -
DNF around 80%
I am very confused by all of the high ratings...
Knox treats women horribly, calling them terrible names and is often physically and emotionally abusive, especially with the MC. As for Aria, she is too busy constantly having sex with Knox instead of searching for her missing sister. There is barely any world building nor is there any character/relationship development. Honestly, the entire book consists of Knox and Aria's truly demented relationship. -
I am so sorry - I hate being wholly negative and try to find something great in every book, but this was appalling.
I should have known I wasn't going to like this when I read the cringey "Warning" at the start of the book:Is the book perfect? It’s as perfect as I could make it. Are there mistakes? Probably, then again, even New York Times top published books have minimal mistakes because, like me, they have human editors.
I mean, props for conceding that there'd be errors, but I've got motion sickness from the repetition. The book would be 200 pages too long if the plot could be resolved quicker, but there was no apparent plot that would have benefitted from more robust editing. Almost nothing happened.
I don't know what the point of this book was - originally it was about finding her twin sister but that got abandoned for about 300 pages in the middle. When that storyline returned, I genuinely didn't remember the name of the sister.
I have nothing to really say about Aria, which I doubt is a good thing. Her and her sisters all seem to share the same personality, to the point that I had no idea half the time who was speaking. I can attest that they're all obnoxious, immature nihilists though. Seriously who speaks like this:I couldn’t move, not because I didn’t want to, but because there was a massive erection resting against my lower back. I was a greedy bitch, and I didn’t want anyone to see the rather large package that I was going to get delivered tonight.
It bears repeating, WHO SPEAKS LIKE THIS?!No, the world seemed to be fucking me every which way it could, and this was the cherry-flavored syrup on the top, right beneath the cherry.
They're all so unstable and oversexed that I couldn't suffer any of them long.
I resent that this book makes me feel like a pearl-clutching parson's wife, because I regularly read far darker books and really enjoy smut, but it felt that the characters were all either rock hard or drowning in their own fluids constantly, perpetually nude and always DTF.
The sex we read about constantly is reasonably unimaginative, and is torture porn that's so inelegantly written yet contributes absolutely nothing to the plot.
And onto our "hero". Ha. What a colossal bellend. I LOVE LOVE LOVE a bad boy, a tortured soul with a troubled past, and even an irredeemable asshole, but Knox is something else entirely - an utter sociopath. Yes, he has cause to hate witches, but his treatment of Aria is so erratic and overblown that his character isn't remotely realistic.
The author clearly gets off on writing a psychosexual sadist, which is cool, but she tells us in the beginning of the book that she wants us to love him despite him physically and mentally abusing her for *checks notes* no reason at all. His POV chapters provide such an opportunity to show depth and development, and yet we get paragraphs and paragraphs of this ad nausem:She’d be a broken, destroyed thing that no amount of magic could fix, and it terrified her—and worse, it excited her. Good. It should.
You want to tell me more about how much you wreck her in the "worst way", sir? Fried Christ. Hey dude, you dropped this:
I swear like a sailor, but variations of the word "fuck" and "fucking" turn up 959 times in this book. Profanity is used in this book like punctuation, and it feels less like adding weight to emotive sentences, and more like the lyrics of a greasy nu-metal band.
My favourite Knox moment was this:It soaked your cunt at the idea of my teeth claiming your throat; that’s dangerous, Aria.
"Ooh, quite sexy," I hear you say. He actually said this at the funeral of stillborn babies whilst they were still warm.
This shit is intolerable. I've nearly DNF'ed from the varying iterations of the same sentences. The insufferable edgelord nonsense got really tedious.
I'm cool with dub-con themes . . . but in this? Ew.
My favourite part of the book? One of the key antagonists, a beast that is poised to rape our heroine is all rotten-dicked, horned and hooved and we're meant to be frozen with fear . . . and his name is GERALD. Ahahahahaha!
I'll admit that I became slightly more intrigued in the final 30 pages of this book, but I was so inutterably turned off by it by this point that I can't commit another penny of my money to this series. I'm noping right out.
