Never say never. When meek and mild Posey Davies calls it quits on her toxic marriage, she grabs her two-year-old daughter and runs. Her flight lands her in Grand, Montana, a community happy to take her in and even happier to nose about in her life and her unfortunate past.
The cowboy next door, Zack McGregor, has “good time,” written all over him. He’s only home for a year to help out his older brother, who’s guardian of their sister’s children. Zack is kind, funny and oh-so-easy on the eyes. He’d be perfect, but the practical Posey predicts Zac will disappear as soon as winter sets in.
Zack’s not as laid back and fun loving as he seems. He’s all about family and doing what’s right. When Posey’s deadbeat ex-husband begins making demands, Zack insists on playing protector.
Posey’s never had anyone stand up for her before and soon realizes that perhaps relying on this man and trusting in love is well worth the risk.

I am a sucker for a Cowboy's Love Story...I admit it. Backstory, I did a little bit of Western Show Riding years ago, so I have seen the Cowboy in his Natural Habitat. I can honestly say, not all men out there wearing Chaps and Spurs look like these men on the covers...But the men I did have the friendly chat with, their families and friends were mostly just like these tales, strong and straight-forward. Tule Publishing has an excellent handle on finding authors who can write tales which combine all of those qualities realistically. The Rancher's Proposal by Paula Altenburg has everything a reader could want from her cowboy.
This is part of a series, however, I never felt lost reading it on its own.
Posey Davies never thought she would be standing on her own porch in Grand, Montana. As a woman raised in Boston, with all of its trappings, owning her own piece of land, dedicating herself to her two-year-old daughter Trixie, she will never let a man take advantage of her again.
Posey's naivete caused her to fall for a man who played the part courting her and then her pregnancy was the push for marriage. The man then turned out to be an abuser. It took his first rough treatment of Posey's daughter to cause the rushed settlement, payout, and divorce. Now she is supposed to be through with him. She has done everything possible to keep her location secret and vows to herself to be her own lone rider...protector and fortress.
Zack McGregor comes from a family which understands how ranches and landownership works. His family had the ranch next to Posey's. Zack was back at the ranch due to a terrible twist of fate taking his sister and his parents, leaving children without their mother. He has taken on his part of rearing these children and planned on being there for about a year.
When Zack comes by Posey's new home, introducing him as her neighbor, he sees a woman who is a little out of her comfort zone. What does connect between the two of them is the little girls. Zack's little niece is so cute and Posey's daughter seems to be so happy playing with her, it makes the grown-ups more comfortable spending time together.
As the story continues, we feel the two of them grow closer. Posey has been hurt and taken advantage of...and Zack thought he had a woman who cared for him but was shot down. Both have relationship hurdles but by working slowly and developing a strong foundation, Zach and Posey find each other and get their HEA.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and will do as my way, haha, go and find the first and second books of this series.

Posey Davies is determined to give her and her two-year-old daughter a new start far away from her abusive ex-husband. She’s been content to stay to herself until the handsome cowboy next door comes around. Zack’s back home helping care for his recently orphaned niece and nephews. When his new neighbor and her adorable young daughter catch his eye, he’s determined to bring a bit of sunshine back into their lives. At first, Posey’s resistant—determined to not let another man in—although with her ex-husband threatening her, Zack’s determined not to let another person her loves get hurt. Will Zack be able to win her trust and her heart?
Posey’s been through a lot; not only with her abusive ex-husband but with the loss of her mother at a young age, being ignored by father, and the slights her uncle has thrown at her. She’s a bit defeated but she’s not going to give up. While I felt for Posey, I spent much of the book not liking her. She’s too stuck in her own head so whenever Zach did something kind for her or told her he was falling for her, she would come up with these excuses of why he couldn’t like her for her.
I really liked Zack. He was just one of those all-around good guys who is willing to give up everything to put family first. He’s suffering the loss of his parents, sister, and brother-in-law and figuring out how to help raise his orphaned niece and nephews but instead of wallowing in his grief, he’s determined to ensure the kids are raised without a black cloud hanging above them. And when he sees that Posey’s hiding and withdrawing, he does everything in his power to make sure she and her daughter are safe and happy.
The romance was a little one-sided at times. There’s no doubt that Zack’s all in; he’s head over heels, but Posey’s stuck in the past—and in her head—so she needs some time to figure it out. For me, Posey’s reluctance was starting to get a little old. I mean, I understood where she was coming from, but she could have gave Zack a break sooner.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. It had its heavy moments but it had its fun and charming moments as well giving it a nice balance. The only thing that seemed a bit off was Posey’s actions after the confrontation between Zack and her ex-husband. She was the one who called Zach when her ex said he was coming over then she acted all odd.
So, this one is the third book in the series, but it reads brilliantly on its own.
Overall, I enjoyed this one. It was a quick read and I look forward to reading the previous books in the series.

4.5 stars.
“The Rancher’s Proposal”, by Paula Altenburg (Tule Publishing), is an excellent romantic story with a swoonyworthy hero who falls head over heels for the heroine, and three brothers who have the biggest hearts. I loved everything in this book, particularly the characters (including the group of children), the dialogue, the humor and how the author still deals soberly with serious matters (domestic violence, loss and grief).
Zack and Posie are such great characters! Zack is just the most genuine, solid, confident, kind male character, with a wicked sense of humor. Zack is a sexy Beta hero in that he’s all about pleasing his “fairy princess”, but he also shows some tendencies to leadership and to get things done in a very practical way. His adventures with diaper changing are hilarious and really taint what alpha aura he might have. His mischievous side is fascinating.
The heroine is amazing, too, strong despite self-esteem issues realistically handled.
I found the characters incredibly well written – even the two adorable baby girls each get their own characterization – and loved Zack’s hilarious musings.
The way the three brothers rally to take care of their nephews and niece, and the issues the two boys show, are heartbreaking.
This was my first time reading this author, Paula Altenburg, and I really loved her writing style and the talent to create original characters. -
I have loved all of the McGregor brothers but I think Zach is my favorite. Zach is such an honorable loving person and to find his HEA with Posey. Posey is a very strong willed woman who will do anything to protect her two year old daughter, Trixie. Posey is starting her life over with her daughter after leaving an abusive marriage and has trust issues. Zach is the perfect man for her, he is so patient with Posey and will wait forever to hear those words of, I Love You.
Loved the chemistry of Posey and Zach. They both share the love of children. This is the third book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. Three single brothers that are now raising their nephews and niece, and each finding their HEA. It's sad to say good bye to this family. -
This is the third book in the series but I don’t think you need to have read any of the others to appreciate and enjoy this one – but they’re all great stories so I recommend you read them all!
A tragic aeroplane crash has killed the McGregor brothers’ parents and their sister and her husband. This has left the eldest brother to bring up their sister’s children and the two younger brothers have returned to help him, planning on staying for a year to do so. Zack McGregor is one of the younger brothers and, on first appearances, seems out to have a good time but he has a more serious side and meeting the new neighbour brings that protective side of him out in force. He also has an unfortunate reaction to the aroma of his niece’s dirty nappies that is somewhat embarrassing and funny! The neighbour is Posey Davies and she’s moved across the country with her two year old daughter after divorcing her abusive ex-husband. There’s mutual attraction there but she’s wary after her experiences with her ex-husband. Can him trying to get his youngest niece and her daughter to be playmates also help win Posey’s heart or will her past prevent them finding love together? What will happen if her ex visits?
This is an emotive story where the physical and emotional abuse experienced has a lasting impact on the victim but love and trust help heal. The patience, determination and kindness of Zach is brilliantly portrayed and this is a heartwarming romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
Many thanks to the publishers for gifting me a copy of this book which I have chosen to read and, like all the others I’ve read by this author, I thoroughly enjoyed reading! -
A heartwarming and loveable series, I feel each can be read as a standalone but you’d enjoy them far more reading the whole series, the characters are relatable and so lovely, you can’t help but root for them. It’s an addictive read and you’ll find yourself curled up on the couch not wanting to move until your finished.

It seems that THE RANCHER’S PROPOSAL is bringing The Montana McGregor Brothers series to a conclusion. I had hoped for one more… but I never say never when it comes to series. *hopeful grin*
I’ve been a bit in book love with Zach since first meeting this handsome cowboy who has no intentions of settling down. Even in the background, it’s been a pleasure to run into Zach through his brothers’ stories. Now, Zack has the chance to shine, to show his true colors as one quiet, abused woman moves in next door with her adorable little girl. It’s obvious that she’s running from trouble, and just as obvious that she doesn’t want to broadcast that fact – difficult to do in a small town where everyone knows just about everything about their residents, especially the new ones.
When Posey’s troubles show up it’s Zach that comes to her rescue and stands by her and little Trixie to not only protect and defend but to show her he’s in for the long haul if she’d just take the risk of trusting in him.
I loved Posey and Zach together. They fit, his charm, easy-going ways go straight for the heart of a proud, stubborn, strong woman who has faced down terrors that no woman should have to face. Their bantering, sizzling conversations often gave me laugh out loud moments, and I love when a story can make me really care about the characters. I’ve enjoyed this series so very much, and I’m sad to see it come to a close — but who knows, maybe one day we’ll be reading about the next generation’s love lives (now wouldn’t that be sweet).
If you love a Romance that shows reality in the caring and kindness of strangers, falling in love when scared to, and characters who will steal your heart throughout their stories then THE RANCHER’S PROPOSAL and the entire The Montana McGregor Brothers series is one you’ll want to pick up – like right now. I’d highly recommend this story and series to any Romance reader without hesitation.

Posey and Zack’s love story in The Rancher's Proposal by Paula Altenburg, book three in the Montana McGregor Brothers series, is a wonderful story. Posey Davies left her abusive ex-husband in Boston, grabbed her two-year old daughter and runs to Grand, Montana. This community offers all the good and bad of a small town, being happy to welcome her but wanting to pry into her life; now and the past. She is ready to start over, relying on no one but herself; especially not on another man. Zack McGregor is living next door, helping out his older brother, who’s now guardian of their sister’s children. Zack is not as laid back and fun loving as he seems; as family comes first for him. Zack also has a strong belief of doing what’s right. He has fallen for Posey since she moved next door and he set eyes on her. In fact, he has shamelessly used his two-year niece to help him get to know Posey better and spend time with her. These two share off the chart chemistry but Posey struggles with trusting others, especially men after what she went through with her ex. The more time Posey and Zack spend together, the more Posey starts believing in Zack and accepting that he truly loves her as well as falling for him. When Posey’s ex-husband shows up and begins making demands, Zack insists on playing protector. No one has ever stood up for her before and Posey realizes that relying on this man and trusting in love is well worth the risk.
Ms. Altenburg wrote a wonderful and sexy story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and amazing characters giving Posey and Zack a chance for happiness, love and a future together. I highly recommend The Rancher's Proposal to other.

Warm, sweet and a touch sexy, The Rancher’s Proposal is one of those comfortable books you just want to sink into at the end of a tough day. Set in Montana, this is the third in Paula Altenburg’s Montana McHGregor brothers series and tells the story of rancher Zach McGregor and Posey, an heiress and a divorcee, who has travelled from Boston to start a new life for herself and her young daughter in a place where nobody knows her and where she hopes to be seen as a person in her own right rather than just wealthy and entitled.
Zach is a trained accountant but has come home to the family ranch to help his brothers Jake and Luke to raise their orphaned nephews and niece.
What I liked about this book was the sense of family and community which is so often a feature in small country towns. The characters are decent, hard working and caring and I couldn’t help but both like and admire them. I loved watching Posey slowly learn that these people genuinely cared for her and that if there was a need for it they would have her back. The story flowed really well. I read it in just a few hours and was sorry to reach the end. -
Sometimes it takes a huge leap of faith into the unknown to find your happy. Posey left the east coast with her 2 year old daughter in tow leaving behind everything she has known to escape her ex-husband.
Zack MacGregor has come home to help his brothers take their orphaned nephews and barely 2 year old niece. People look at Zack and let appearances deceive them. He comes across as a simple cowboy but he is really caring smart accountant who wants to protect those he cares about.
Posey ends up buying a house for her and her daughter next door to the MacGregor ranch never realizing that her heart would be tempted by one tall sexy cowboy/accountant. Zach is intrigued by Posey and thinks that she needs protecting but isn't sure how to go about it.
Posey has a few secrets and she slowly realizes that she can trust Zack. The fun in this book is the adventures along the way.
The real stars in this novel and who do not get enough attention are the very young ladies. Yes, like always 2 year olds steal the show. -
This is book 3 in the series and I only readthe first book. I LOVED this story sooooooo much. Its definitely my favorite one between this one and the first book. This is Zach's story with his neighbor Posey and it actually starts before his parents and sister end up dead. So we get a fast glimpse of the family that passes away.
This is Posey's story, he is an abused wife with a young daughter who is fearful of her ex and all men. She is an absolute sweetheart. She has lots of money but no family besides her baby. She meets ach when he is taking care of his niece who is a baby as well.
They form a slow friendship and share babysitting duties and I loved watching him fall for Posey and Posey learning to trust him. This was an awesome story with love, laughterand the cutest kids. Its my absolute favorite in the series.
I received an arc before release from the publisher, all opinions are my own. -
I did it again, I started a book that was in a series on the 3rd book. I really enjoyed this book, it had all the emotional aspects of a wonderful story. The loss of family, the loss of a marriage, the fear of repercussions, the joy of finding a new relationship/love. This story also had me laughing out loud at the great sense of humour that author Paula Altenburg has. I loved Zack & Posey they were a work in progress throughout the story & I enjoyed how Zack was never really afraid of losing his man card with Posey. I also loved how Zack kept learning lessons from his late father & mother & used them to grow his relationship with Posey & her daughter. I’m going to look for the first two books in the series & read them now. Definitely recommend. I received this book from the author through Bookfunnel for an honest review.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I really enjoyed it. The author draws you in and keeps your attention throughout the book. I really enjoyed Posey and how she was a strong women but also how she had a very vulnerable side to her as well. I loved Eleanor she hands down was one of my favorite characters. I also liked Zack he totally wore his heart on his sleeves and you never had to wonder what he was thinking or his intentions. There is a few curses words and does have some sex scenes so this may not be suitable for everyone. Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from these fun characters. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

This is such a delightful story of learning to trust and to love. Posey Davies has her defenses sky high to protect her two year old Trixie and herself from an abusive ex-husband. She settles 2,000 miles away from him to start a new life hopefully free of his manipulations. Zack McGregor, the man on the next over ranch is struggling with his brothers to raise their orphaned niece and nephews. Posey’s daughter, Trixie, offers a playmate for Lydia.
Time can heal many wounds and trust can be built. Time is on Zack’s side as he woos (yes, woos!) Posey, gently, determinedly, and carefully.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. -
Zack likes to keep things light-hearted for his woman, “so far, I’d say you’re doing pretty damned fantastic.” She couldn’t miss the evidence of that, since she was practically sitting on it. “As for the rest of your reasons, you’ll notice I’m also covered in paint and not wearing makeup. That makes us even.” The man has no problem stating what he wants, "...have I mentioned how much I love women? Because I’m planning on filling a house with them. I’m fine with boys too, of course, but for every one of them, we have to try for two girls.” I liked this book, I liked Zack. -
What an intriguing story. Was so wrapped up in it that I almost forgot to make supper! Storyline is complicated in its simplicity. It is certainly not your typical single mom meets rancher. There’s so much more going on with tons of family drama all around. Book was so realistic that I started worrying how everyone was going to make out. This is one of those stories that stays with you long after you’ve finished it.
I received an advanced reader copy from Tule Publishing and am leaving my review voluntarily. -
The Rancher's Proposal is book number three in the The Montana McGregor Brothers series by Paula Altenburg. This is Posey Davies and Zack McGregor's story.
I really enjoyed Zack and Posey's story. They were fun characters. Zack was amazing in how he approached Posey and earned her trust and love. An entertaining and sweet read that is a great way to escape everyday life.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. -
Another sweet romance from the author. I loved Posey's strong character and her willingness to do anything to keep her daughter safe. Zach comes across as the sweetest guy who is willing to stand up for his love. How Zach gets Posey to trust him and how they find their happily ever after makes a lovely read.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book received from the publisher in exchange for an honest opinion. -
The third McGregor brother finally gets his HEA with The Rancher's Proposal. This is book three in Paula Altenburg's The Montana McGregor Brothers.
After reading both Jake's and Luke's stories, I couldn't wait to read Zack's. The chemistry between Zack and Posey worked for me. There may have been times that I may have wanted to shake them but I couldn't help but root for them to get it together. -
I voluntarily read a advanced Reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.
A great addition to The Montana McGregor brothers series. The Rancher's Proposal by Paula Altenburg. A heart-warming story of romance, family and the coming together. I look forward to reading more about this family.
