***4 "I could do soup!!!" stars***
If you have read the "Players Game" series, this is a companioship novel.... I think that it will be better to not read it alone, even though you could do it and without reading the rest of the books....
But in my opinion, in "Infraction", the second book of the series, we saw the beginning of Jax and Harley and it would be lovely to witness this period before go into this book....
Well, Jax was an awesome guy and Harley was the perfect match for him... They were so funny together and delightful to be around them and i think, i needed the continuing of their story, even though... they broke my heart!!!!
Jax and Harley weren't as they used to be... Something awful had happened.... Something that managed to broke them and tore them apart....
Jax was heartbroken and alone and then a phone call changed everything....
His dear Harley had an accident and she lost her memory...
His heart broken a little bit more, but he decided that it was better this way...
"The love of my life didn't know me. And all I could think was -lucky her.
Why the hell would I ruin the best thing that's ever happened to her?"
One year forward and life for Jax is shittier than ever... He is barely functioning with his life and he is struggling on the field... He lost the two most important things in life and he hadn't left any fight inside of him...
And then, Harley is barreling back into his life and his heart is breaking even more than before...
"Kissing me will make things harder, believe me... I've told it ruins girls..."
"Who would tell you that?"
"A girl... A very beautiful, cunning, sarcastic girl."
"What happened to her?"
"She hasn't come back to me yet."
"Will she ever?"
"For her sake, I hope not."
Harley doesn't remember anything from the last two years... And then, she is starting to see more of Jax and his friends and even though he is a total asshole toward her, she can't help to not be drown toward him... And as the incidents with him keep coming, she can't stop this feeling inside of her that is making her feel like when she is around him is like coming home....
"Me and Jax.
The man I couldn't remember, but somehow still loved."
So what will happen with those two???
Will Jax manage to keep her away of him???
What will happen if and when Harley will remember the ugly things???
Will they manage to overcome the heartbreak that life got them and be together again???
"Our story wasn't beautiful. It was filled with obliterating pain. But the thing with life is this: pain doesn't last forever..."
Well, i loved this small story as i loved the two books of the series....
RVD knows how to write wonderful stories!!!! -
Very short
Tragedy -
MVP is a standalone novella in the Players Game series. This book ripped at my heart. It is an angsty second chance romance. When tragedy befalls Jax and Harley their relationship crumbles. Now they need to find the impossible -- a way back to each other. The emotion in this novella tore at me as I watched life rip these two apart. As I watched them bury their pasts. As I watched them come to terms with what happened. And finally my heart was healed.

I loved loved, loved this short novella! I didn't realize it was connected to Fraternize and Infraction.
This is a short story about Jax and Harley and their absolute heartbreak.... seriously, get out the tissues.
I love all these characters! Great story, highly recommend you read the first two books though even if it can be a standalone. It will give you a better connection to the characters! -
I don’t think I have patience to read this.
Too much of angst for me to digest.
I don’t want to read sad books.
Full of Triggers and pet peeves 🥀.
No thanks.
I have enough bullshits in real life.
Next book please. -
This one was an interesting twist on a 2nd chance romance. So we find out in the first few chapters that Jax and Harley had a rough year - he lost his dad and then they lost a baby. Just when their grief was at an all-time high, she gets in an accident and has amnesia! Instead of being by her side during her recovery, Jax decides it is better if she doesn't remember him or the past they shared. Of course, I laughed, I cried. It was sweet.
For a quick read, a lot happens. Smut factor is only a 2 out of 5, but I didn't miss it. This story is more about the emotions than the physical. -
2 stars
Because the end was too rushed. It killed all the angst and I hated it. HATED it. This could have been so much more. It had so much potencial, the plot was good at the beginning and then it all went to hell. -
HEA at Last
Jax and Harley were favorites of mine from the Player Series and so giddy to see them get their own HEA. You can read this as a stand-alone but its best to read Infraction first to know their backstory -
So I've been reading this book as part of Rachel Van Dyken's newsletter and when she finally announced she finished it and put it up on Amazon, I immediately went to one-click! This book is the story of Jax and Harley from Rachel's Players Game Series (Fratenize & Infraction) both of which I adored. This book is something completely different from Rachel, as she tackles tough topics and emotionally guts you before putting you back together.
Harley and Jax are torn apart by a handful of unthinkable events. And I kid you not, I definitely cried and teared up more than once during this read. Jax is just filled with so much grief, guilt, and angst that he is bursting at the seams, his pain is palpable and real. When Harley seems to be getting a second chance and a clean slate, they can't deny the chemistry between them. But love has one h*ll of a challenge when their is so much unspoken history.
Watching these characters trudge through so much hardship was pulling my heartstrings. By the end of the novel, I just wanted to cry happy tears and hug them both. I loved how everything wrapped up and how these characters were able to recover and carve out their normal. Nobody does HEAs like Rachel. -
I started MVP as part of Rachel's newsletter story and loved it. This is part of her Player's series world and was a second chance romance that was emotional and touching. I loved Jax and Harley so much and their journey was not an easy one, but sometimes getting your HEA means facing the unexpected and heartbreaking first. A great addition to this series!
Happy reading! -
I fell in love with Van Dyken's writing while reading the Eagle Elite series (read it if you haven't!) so I knew that I wanted to read something else by her. I did enjoy this short novella by her, but I think that I should have read the previous books first to get the entire experience.
I didn't know that this was a companion novel to her Players Game series until I got to the last page. I still enjoyed it, but I will say that since it was a novella, I did have a hard time getting invested in the characters since I lacked their character introductions from the previous books.
This story was pretty heart breaking. I felt for both characters and really wanted them to find their happiness. I liked the romance and was satisfied with the ending.
There really is not much to say since I can't really speak if it adds to the series or not without reading those books. I will highly recommend reading this after the first books in the Players Game series. I think that it would add so much more to this story. -
This was angsty, and would've made a GREAT full-length book. It was so rushed at the end that all that angst you were feeling just abruptly died. But at the beginning, my chest was killllling me.
“Because it breaks my fucking heart!” he roared. “That's why!” I stumbled back. With tears in his eyes, he whispered. “And I don't have much of it left… so if you could please stop taking what working pieces I still have, I would appreciate it.” -

“Maybe I’d rather have you close and feel your hate, then have you far and not feel anything at all.”
Thank goodness this was only a novella! I don't know if my poor heart could have taken a full length novel that contained this level of pain. Having read both Fraternize and Infraction, I was already quite attached to these characters, so to start MVP and see what had happened to Jax and Harley was just heartbreaking. I know that you can read this as a standalone but you will feel so much more if you read the entire series. I'm pretty much a fan of everything Rachel Van Dyken writes but I have to say that the characters from her Players Game series are truly some of my favorites! If you haven't read these books yet and you like cocky athletes who love with their whole hearts and sassy women who aren't afraid to stand up to and for the men they love, you'd enjoy this series!
The topic for MVP was a hard one but Ms. Van Dyken handled it well.
"The universe had given us another gift, a fresh start, and quite possibly a sign from heaven that said, “I love you.” -
“I’d rather have you close and feel your hate, then have you far and not feel anything at all.”
This was a real tearjerker and I loved it. It was well written, the pain of Jax quite palpable making you feel his desperation.
Jax seemed to have a big heart willing to suffered to immens heartache so Harley could live a happy life.
These two really deserve their painful healing and HEA.
Part of the
Players Game Series but can be read as a standalone:

*4 Stars*
Another great story from RVD. This one starts off with a bang, and stays intense the whole way through. These kinds of books are always interesting and emotional to read. This is a short story, but I really enjoyed it, and for a short story like it is, it was well written and resolved well (there is a HEA).

Jax. I mean seriously, this book is all Jax. I loved this guy in the other books and my heart broke for him in this one. My heart broke for Harley too, but her guy is the one I was rooting for, and crying over. A beautiful, beautiful story that had a beautiful ending, too.
-
MVP is everything you would want for a second chance love 💖 so glad that they both got their HEA
-
Really enjoyed this short by RVD, now I want to read the stories of the supporting characters.
-
Very emotional but also very cheesy by the end of the book. The last chapter ruined the book for me.
-
Short And Good
This was short and good and touch on a lot of sad topics like postpartum depression, loss, and tragedy. Good quick read. -
I knew her, inside and out. We had inside jokes, nicknames, we had habits, and fights. Makeups and breakups. We had a life between us that she didn't know. And I did. It was like loving someone who didn’t exist anymore.
You know, it just amazes me how sometimes a novella packs more punch than a full-length novel.
MVP is part of Rachel Van Dyken's Player's Series and at just 90 pages and it was all parts emotional and lovely. There is so much told in just a few short pages and if by a teeny tiny chance Rachel planned to extend this story, I would be the first in line to read it.
I absolutely loved MVP and if you have an hour or so, definitely pick this one up!
4.5 Stars!

SHORT BUT POWERFUL READ!!!
Title: MVP
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
Designation: Standalone, Novella, No Cliffhanger #contemporary #sportsromance #secondchance
My Rating: Five Emotionally Gripping Stars*****
Wow, another fabulous read from Rachel Van Dyken! I read this story originally when it was released in bi-weekly chapters to Van Dyken's newsletter subscribers and fell head over heels for the male protagonist, 34-year-old Jax Romonov. *sigh* Jax was the superstar quarterback for the Bellevue Bucks and the golden boy of American football with two championship rings in only two years, voted People's Nicest Athlete, and adored by millions. He appeared to have the ideal life, but looks can be deceiving. Jax was heartbroken and struggling to maintain the facade of his perfect existence. He'd lost everything that truly mattered in his life and, usually, there's no way to rewind time and make things right. But, sometimes, if you're truly blessed, you can build from the ashes, and that's essentially what this story is about. I fell in love with Jax and his former fiancé Harley. My heart actually ached for them. Jax and Harley were complex characters, trying to deal with the pain of loss, and Van Dyken did an exceptional job of revealing their painful past. It was evident from the beginning of the story, these two lost souls had a sexually charged attraction, but more importantly, they also had an powerful connection, one that refused to be denied, despite the fact Harley was missing the memories of their time together. Every single encounter was emotionally charged. It just broke my heart. No spoilers from me but I will say this... Handsome, caring, and devoted star quarterback determined to sacrifice his own happiness to save the woman he loved-check! Beautiful, sweet yoga instructor suffering from memory loss-check! Painful secrets, heartbreaking loss, gutwrenching angst-check! Undeniable attraction, sweet romance, a love that refused to be denied, and an ending that will melt your heart-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
Did I like this story? No, I loved it! In fact, I loved it so much that I purchased it for my library because I wanted to read it again! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am. MVP may be short(approx 90 pages), but it packed a powerful emotional punch and included everything I've come to love and expect from Rachel Van Dyken. I sniffled, sobbed, outright ugly cried, sighed, and giggled through the entire book, but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, and entertained. MVP is a captivating, well crafted, standalone sports romance about the power of true love and second chances. There is some profanity and a couple of love scenes I would rate 2 flames. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! -
Heartbreak, Forgiveness & Second Chances!
Jax stole my heart from the first moment he showed his selflessness in putting his wife first during a tragic and agonizing time of their lives!
Rachel broke my heart and then pieced it back together with sweet & sexy memories that ultimately brought much needed absolution to these characters! Loss is something that everyone deals with at some point, each person handling it differently than others but the bottom line is that it hurts! Imagine losing the one person in this world that is made entirely for you in the process of experiencing that suffocating pain!
I honestly had no idea what I was walking into with this book! Yes I read the blurb, but I was completely unaware that this was a novella written to accompany an already published series!
YES...you can read this on it's own! I read it without reading the other series and not once was I confused! The pacing and the plot for this heartbreaking second chance romance was on point! However, I do have to admit that I found myself just wanting more. More of these two BEFORE the heartbreak! I NEEDED MORE OF JAX & HARLEY! I have heard that reading The Players Game series gives you some insight to the beginning of this couple. I wish I had known that, I would have loved to have read them prior to MVP since there wasn't much of Jax & Harley before their tragedy in this one!
TRIGGER WARNING!!! I am placing this here since my cousin and our family have experienced this type of tragic pain - PLEASE keep in mind that when you read the blurb and it talks about the loss of a child that it is painful to read by someone who has not lost a child, so I know the possibly is much higher for it to be triggering for anyone who has experienced that loss! -
MVP started out in Rachel’s newsletter and I’m so excited that everyone can now read it so they don’t miss out. Jax and Harley’s story broke my heart as I was reading it, but I love them so much because they have such an emotional pull to each other. I love the laugh out loud moments and I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. Harley is my kind of girl because I love that she doesn’t give a sh$$ what other people think of her. I think she is the perfect mix of sassy, stubborn and loving. I don’t usually fall in love with football players in books, but I couldn’t help it with Jax because his loyal and protective side screams at my heart that any girl would be lucky to be his forever. Harley is not intimidated by his larger than life self and I appreciate that so much! Even in heartbreak an HEA can occur and I needed it for them as much as myself. Jay makes my heart soar and I could totally be his MVP for life.

Romantic but sad
Reading Jax and Harley's love broke my heart. Enduring the kind of tragedy they went through can be devastating for everyone. When Harley gets amnesia, I don't blame Jax for wanting to keep her from remembering the pain she went through. When Harley is around Jax, she feels like they belong together so she can't understand why he is keeping something from her. When her memories do return, she is devastated by what she remembers but is determined not to let go of Jax. Even though this is a novella and I wish the book had been longer, I really loved the ending of this book. It tied up their storyline nicely. -
Glad I finally took the time to read the rest of Jax and Harley's story. It was heartbreaking, angsty, and emotional. I wanted to shake Jax many times, but also felt his deep pain and protective instincts. I felt for Harley because she knew he was hiding something, but had no idea what. It was really tension-filled and angsty as it built, and then kind of rushed at the end. This is a short novella that was a newsletter story, but I would have read a whole book about these two and I enjoyed seeing how it all worked out for them.

Even in loss there is love! That’s what MVP is all about. Loving someone enough to let them go so they don’t hurt! Harley and Jax have a painful past. He’s her MVP for sure!! He’s got everything as an NFL quarterback and loses it all, including Harley. When they finally reconnect- there’s tension and there’s a connection felt!
Rachel Van Dyken writes this beautiful story of selfless love and how there’s always a way to happily ever after! -
From the moment I started reading the first page, I knew this book would be emotional and heart-warming. I have to admit I was swooning big time over Jax, a hot alpha football player, who wouldn't be?! Harley completely tugged at my heart with her sweet personality and amazing resilience. I started tearing up at the beginning of the book and didn't stop till the end. Have a box of tissues near you while reading this book! An emotional and moving love story!

Starting over after loss can lead to a beautiful future
I started this when it was chapter by chapter in the newletter. I'm thrilled w the completed story. Sweet, tender, painful at times, steamy, with a well deserved HEA. Jax and Harley's journey is painful and sweet at the same time.
