When a cake decorator meets a former hockey player, the icing meets the ice in a whirlwind fast romance. I just wanted to survive the holidays. Then gorgeous, confident Nolan appeared, wanting to be my date to my one annual social obligation. He makes my heart race so quickly my brain shuts off, and I find myself able to talk a bit more. But it was too much, too fast, and I know that I’m not what he truly needs. Fights or force, I’d always gotten my way. From the second I saw her, I knew Sharolyn was mine. But I had to learn to be careful. Gentle. It would be all too easy to scare this shy girl away.*** A standalone Christmas romance novella. If you love short romances with a shy regular curvy girl, a hot alpha male, steamy love scenes and a sweet HEA, this story is just for you! Icing Up Love (Up Love #1) Reviews

An insta-love novella focusing on shy girl - Sharolyn and an outgoing ex-hockey player - Nolan during the Christmas season.

I thought this would be a nice little morsel, and whilst it was little it wasn't what I was hoping for. At times the dialogue of the main characters, specifically the hero was a tad too sickly sweet - the type that had me wrinkling my nose. The passion and heat I was hoping for wasn't there.

    Sweet and safe!

HERO What a great hero. Sweet, caring, patient and head over heels for his girl

HEROINE painfully shy and didn’t do well with a lot of people. I was glad she gave the hero a chance to prove his love

OW DRAMA Some catty women made comments that upset the heroine. Two tried to make a move but the hero wasn’t interested

    OM DRAMA None

    STEAM nice amount of steam

    SEPARATION no major separation

    VIOLENCE no violence

SAFETY safe no others after meeting

ENDINGjust ok epilogues 3 months and 1 year later

alright, maybe not my thing but it’s well written

Did I just discover that “shy girls” is not my thing? Yup. Which is totally fine. This is well written and perfect insta love.

What I did not enjoy was the constant female shaming that happened - by the FMC and the MMC. There was a good female friendship, and a few side characters, but there were a lot of dismissive comments about other girls I just couldn’t get past. Unfortunately with this as my first experience with this author, that will turn me off from reading this author in the future.

    The couple: Nolan and Sharolyn

    Romance genre: insta-love
    Series: Insta Love Shy Girl
    Length: 51 pages

Plot: Sharolyn works for a caterer and meets Nolan one evening when he comes back into the kitchen (the walk-in freezer to be exact) to catch a minute before he goes out on stage to talk. What she doesn't know is that he was instantly smitten by her and is planning on asking her out. This is a problem because Sharolyn is extremely shy and Nolan makes his living by talking to people. He is willing to do whatever is necessary to make her his though.

Commentary: This was sweet - not my favorite of the series, but still sweet. When I read these I keep thinking how lucky I am to have met my husband so young because there's no way I could have done dating as an adult - I feel like Sharolyn and a lot of the heroines in this series - way too shy to engage in the sort of shenanigans necessary to actually go on a date with someone. How excruciating that must be when you're that shy.

    A quick enjoyable read.

Know what you are getting: not a long story but the author does an amazing job of filling in all the gaps so that it is not full of holes while also not rushing too much.

I felt that the author had the ability to convey some depth to the personalities of the characters, despite the length of the book, bringing a greater sense of reality to her story.

I received a copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

    Her Hockey Hunk

What a super cute insta love romance!

I adored Sharolyn for her shy, quiet, social anxiety stricken self, I could relate to her and I thought it was so sweet that Nolan was so accepting of her.

The holiday season backdrop to the story was also a hit for me, I can and do enjoy Christmas year round!

    A cupcake for the hockey-star

Insta-story with a shy girl and outgoing guy. I loved that Nolan senses that Sharolyn needs a gentle touch. He pushes her outside of her comfort zone, but is always conscious of not pushing her too far. And as her friend Jenny says, you gotta love a guy who knows when to ask for help!

  • Megan Burns

Not entirely realistic, IMO, in portraying a shy introvert, but I'm willing to overlook it because this is an instalove romance, after all. Plus, Nolan and Sharolyn are really adorable together. He pushes himself to take things slow and not scare her off, and she in turn pushes herself to come out of her shell for him.

Overall Verdict: 8 iced cookies out of 10

    Not really a fan

Her personality drove me bonkers. I get being shy but she was like a sheltered amish girl and i was not expecting it. It was a bit annoying

    So sweet

A lovely little short, sweet confection of a romance story. She’s a super shy baker and he’s an ex hockey player motivational speaker. Can they make it work?
