She’s loved him forever. He’s been too blind to notice.

When Gabby Fredericks returns home for the holidays, she’s not expecting her best friend’s brother and her ex-crush—Wyatt West—to meet her at the airport. It’s been five years, and she’s over him. Only, her heart hasn’t gotten the message. Wyatt is taller, more rugged, and even better looking than when she left home…and he’ll never be hers.

Wyatt West can’t believe how much Gabby has changed since he last saw her. He’s always considered her an extra little sister—and off limits—but now the feelings he’s having aren’t brotherly at all. Between his uncertain future in the rodeo and struggling with his growing feelings for Gabby, his plans for a restful holiday have vanished.

It’ll take more than a little mistletoe for these two hearts to come together.

The Best Friends Billionaire Brother (A Caprock Canyon Romance, #1) Reviews

Is this now the new norm for fictional romances to write douchebag Zeroes who have no problem lusting & falling in love with OW until she does him wrong and then (and only then) he realizes heroine was always "it" for him and he always loved her - even when he was busy screwing OW, telling her ILY and proposing marriage? Come on people! We are smarter then that -- aren't you writers?

Not too long after that, he’d met Lori. She’d come to some of his events, but he was pretty sure she was just there to flirt with the other guys. At the time, Wyatt hadn’t really paid attention because she’d always been a bit of a tease. They were on and off for a year, mostly breaking up because she’d get tired of him being on the road. The last time, she’d made up with him and things were going well, or so he thought. Enough that he’d introduced her to his family and proposed to her in front of all of them. They’d been good a while after that. She seemed to be okay with him being on the road. Then…on a whim, he’d decided to surprise her, only to find her having dinner with another man.

It had broken his heart, but not as much as it should have. That’s when he wised up and broke it off. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, it had bothered him that she could say she loved him and then go around with another man.

    ------

The last event she went to, she’d found enough courage to tell him how she felt, only to find him lip-locked with Lori. They’d broken up, he’d said, for good, but there Lori was…all over him. It had broken her heart. That was the day Gabby had put feelers out for other colleges.

And then the final straw that sent her packing was the summer before her sophomore year…him asking Lori to marry him. But it was pointless to even talk about it.

    -----

“I just don’t want to see you get hurt. I’ll never forget how heartbroken you were that night he asked Lori to marry him. You were crushed.”

    -----

“Have you ever thought about your wedding? I mean, when you proposed to Lori, I suspect you guys talked about it a little.”

One of his worst mistakes. He couldn’t even remember why he’d done it. He’d brought Lori home to introduce her to their families at one of their family dinners, he’d heard Gabby talking about moving to Charleston, and the next thing he remembered was proposing to Lori. It had been so strange. To this day, he had no idea why he’d done it.

“Not really. It didn’t last very long.”

“Why? I mean, I know you guys were off and on, but I figured that would be over once you asked her to marry you.”

“I did too, but…” He tightened his grip on the steering wheel. “She cheated on me.”

    “What?”

“Yep, I was on tour with the rodeo. I came back as a surprise for her birthday and caught her on a date with someone she worked with. There was no more on and off for me. It was just over.

    ------

“I’m just sorry you had to go through that.”

“Me too, but the thing I had with Lori had to stop. I don’t even know why I let it go on as long as I did. We weren’t right for each other. We didn’t want the same things.”
    “Like what?”
“She wanted to move to a big city, and I didn’t. She didn’t want children. And I did. She wanted all these grand things when what I wanted was the simple stuff.”

“She didn’t want to run an orchard or anything like that.”

“She especially didn’t want to do that. You should have seen her face when I told her about it. There was no way that was happening. What’s really sad is that after I found out she was cheating, I was relieved.” (*Ahem..no, that's not what you said earlier...liar, liar, pants on fire..*)

“I never understood why you kept getting back together with her.”

“I don’t have a good reason.” (*sure you do. SEX!!*) He sure wished he did. How many times did they break up? Each time, he promised himself there wouldn’t be a next time, and Lori would find a way to change his mind. “In a way, I think I was glad she cheated. No matter what she said or how much she tried, after that, I was officially done.” (*until the next time buddy!*)

“I guess it was better to find out before you married her than after.”

“Boy, ain’t that the truth. I can’t even picture being married to her.” He shivered with the thought. “I think I would have been miserable.” (*Liar, liar! Can the dude tell the truth?*)
“Then it’s a really good thing you didn’t marry her.” (* Woman, where's your pride?Lol*)
    ------

Of course, the same could be said for him and his relationship with Lori. But that wasn’t him doing the leaving and coming back. It was always Lori dumping him and then coming back. He was still angry with himself that he’d done that so many times. It shouldn’t have taken her cheating on him to realize he didn’t want to be with her.

At least it had ended, but he’d grown increasingly lonely. Maybe that was why he’d taken her back each time. He’d hated being all alone, and at the time, it was better to have a warm body than an empty space. (Oy! Will this shitfest never end??*)
    .

For anyone who cares, the stupid dimwit heroine has had a long time crush on her best friend's brother (Hero) and can't get over him, but he only ever saw her as his sister's sidekick. He had dated OW on & off for months/years (?) in which she would leave him for OM, only to come back to him time & again and repeat the pattern. Yet the schmuck of a Zero took her back each time and even proposed to her! So now, I'm suppose to believe the stupid heroine is "it" for him and is not sloppy seconds? PLEASEEE! I would have said "hit the road jack, and don't let the door hit your stinky ass".

Don't care for this crap, but if you do then I'm sure you will enjoy it. All power to 'ya.

    Mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings about this story. It had the potential to a really good story and don’t get me wrong I enjoyed reading it for the most part. But at some point how dense can Wyatt possibly be? And how much of a wallflower an Gabby be. Essentially one is too dumb to live and the other too weak to know her own mind. Gabby has loved Wyatt since before she knew what love was and Wyatt always thought of her as his little sister’s best friend. Until he picks her up from the airport for the holidays that is and he sees her all grown up. At what point do you give up and move on ? Gabby didn’t even give it a solid try and Wyatt was just clueless until he thought she was dating someone. Where is Gabby’s self worth ? And I mean how long can one hold a torch until the light bulb went on in Wyatt’s head apparently. If not for the constant dancing around each other, dishonesty, and repetition the rating would’ve been better.

A sweet reminder that you can plan a future for more than 8 seconds.

    Romance: 3/5
    Chemistry: 4/5
    1st kiss: +-55% in
    Spice: 0/5 (it's a clean one y'all)
    Humour: 2/5
    Cry factor: 0/5
    Suspense: 0/5
    Drama: 0/5

    Positive thoughts:
    - I absolutely loved the angst this book gave me, that feeling when she's hopelessly in love and he's clueless and keeps telling her they're only friends. It breaks my heart every time - I love how authors do that.
    - It was sweet and to get to know how goofy our hero was just made him even more sweeter and lovable.

    Negative thoughts:
    - I listened to the audio for this one on YT and the narrator wasn't a smooth one. She had great tones for each character on the dialogues, but the narration part was always the same tone, from high to low, it didn't flow nicely. But the story was interesting enough to get me past it.

    Overall:
    - It was a short romance, with great chemistry and I got the angst emotion which I love.
    - It's a clean, proper romance. A fast paced read and "page turner".

    Tropes:
    - Childhood friends to lovers
    - Fake relationship
    - Billionaire MMC
    - Goofy MMC
    - Small town ranch
    - Best friends brother
    - Best friends wedding

    Fun read

Cute story that takes you to a small town to live out life with people who have known each other forever.

  • BP34

This is the first book in the Caprock Canyon Series. This is Gabby and Wyatt's story. Love was right before Wyatt's eyes but he couldn't see it as he considered Gabby as family. Best friends since childhood and soul mates. A friends to lovers clean romance that was fun to read. Well written with an engaging story line a cute cast of characters. A happy ending and no cliffhanger.

-‘Maybe he was right about Wyatt too. She’d keep moving on, and if he ever decided to catch up, it would be great. If not and he was too late, then that was on him. She wasn’t standing still anymore. Not for him, not for anyone. She was loving someone and setting them free, and she was going to do the same for herself.’- Wyatt and Gabby come back to their childhood homes for a wedding. Gabby has been in love with Wyatt forever but he’s never seen her as anything but a family friend. When both start to question their careers and begin thinking about moving home again, complications in their friendship arise. This is a sweet story about second chance romance. The author writes in a similar style to Anne-Marie Meyer, Judy Corry, and Victorine Lieske, among others. I liked this story and I recommend it.

    Great best friend's brother romance

Falling in love with your best friend's brother can be a tricky thing, especially when your families are as close as the Wests and Fredricksons. Gabby has tried to move on, but her feelings for Wyatt are still just as strong. I love the close relationship Gabby and Wyatt have. I wasn't expecting that. Now if Wyatt would stop being so bull-headed he might just figure it out. I hope this is a new series, because I want all their stories, even Carrie Ann and Israel's.

    Good story

This was a good story of HEA. It did have a lot of repeating lines, but still allowed you to bond well with the characters. I did like the story I could read more in the series. This was a first time read with this author.
Overview. Gabby moved to Charleston to finish college and work her dream job of working at the paper. Plus she wanted to leave home after her best friend (Carrie Ann)'s brother and her friend Wyatt proposed to his on and off again girlfriend. Gabby has always loved Wyatt. Gabby thought she was getting a promotion at the paper, but she was fired. Gabby was glad she was going home for the holidays and even more for her best friends wedding. She just hopes that Wyatt won't be there. Instead Gabby was shocked that Wyatt is the one who has picked her up from the airport. Gabby struggles to fight her feels for Wyatt, while Wyatt slowly discovers that Gabby has always been there for him. Memories help Wyatt see a future he wasn't planning for

    Pleasantly interesting story

I have only two real complaints. 1. It's "y'all" and not "ya'll". 2. There were a couple of other glaring typos, too. Those were the only reasons I gave four stars instead of five. The first reason is a major pet peeve of mine.
I did love the story and the characters. I think my favorite thing about this story was the believable interaction between characters. Bandit was my favorite character, even though we didn't get to see him much. Overall, I thought this book was a fun and cozy read.
If you enjoy contemporary romance that's clean, you'll probably enjoy this one.

  • Pamela Devereux

Gabby Fredericks is living in Charleston working her dream job. The only problem is that her best friend, Carrie Ann West, is getting married. She is going home. Family will be happy but she is dreading it. Her childhood crush, Wyatt West, will be there. He still has no clue about her feelings. He sees her as his best friend or a friend of the family. Something drastic needs to happen. Carrie Ann comes up with a plan. The plan back fires and Gabby is devastated. Once this wedding is over, she needs to make plans to heal her broken heart. Eventually Wyatt wakes up, but has he lost her. Time for drastic measures to win her back. Love the ending.

  • Heather Green

Will he pull his head out long enough to see what's always been right in front of him?

One of my favorite parts was the late night scene with Gabby talking with her dad. It was so sweet, but felt a little out of place because there hadn't been any evidence of a relationship between them before that. I would have liked more interactión with those two characters throughout. Interesting characters. Great setting. I would have given it a 5, but Wyatt really was an idiot and took to long with all his waffling. And then the end just happened. Gabby probably felt like she had whiplash. All in all, it was clean and fun.

  • Amy

    Awesome!

I loved how this book was so down to Earth. I loved that even though the family was billions they still worked and didn't act like they were rich. I loved that they used their money to make things better for the town.
Now Wyatt I could have knocked him in the head a couple of times. He was really clueless about Gabby. I really do like their friendship and how close both families are.
I would love to see Bandit open a restaurant. I would love to read a story about each family member.
I really enjoyed the book and I feel in love with this unique family

  • Deanna

    Brilliant, just brilliant

Wow, that was so good. Could not put it down. Read from start to finish in one sitting. LOVED IT

Not sure I could hold out that long for the guy I loved to work it out, talk about thick. But hey what are family for, if not to help you come to your senses before it’s too late.

The family dynamics of this book is what really makes it stand out. It’s exactly how you would expect a big loving, interfering family, should be like. And I found a friend in each and every one of the characters.

We will not regret reading this book.

  • Fran

I loved Gabby but boy did she hold onto that crush way too long! If I was her bestie I would have said he doesn't deserve you move on sweetie, about a hundred times sooner than anyone actually said it to her. And Wyatt had to be the densest individual on the planet. I know lots of guys and yeah they have their moments but none are this dumb. still, the story was well written and the other characters great. I like The Housekeeper's Billionaire Boss way better. this was a 3 and a half stars not a 5 like the other. So I am glad I read that first because if I went by this book I might not have continued the series but with the first read being a 5 star I will definitely give the other brothers a chance. I just hope they are as annoying as Wyatt. Gabby deserved way more from life.

    My Best Friend's Brother

There are several laugh out loud moments in this story and even more times when you are going to want to smack Wyatt on the head! The saying, "Men are oblivious" is hysterically proven again and again.

Grace has the patience of a saint as she waits for Wyatt to get a clue. Carrie Anne's scheme will leave you chuckling as she plots to make her brother realize what everyone has always known.... Wyatt loves Grace

  • Rachael

I enjoyed listening to this book on YouTube. The story was very good and moved quickly and the narrative was also good.
I liked Gabby and her sweet personality. She has loved Wyatt almost her whole life. She was always there when he needed her and proved to be a good friend. The problem was Wyatt never saw her as anything other than “part of the family”. That is about to change.
    Nice, sweet read.

  • Kathy

Fantastic! I love the characters and their quirkiness. I love their kindness, generosity and teasing of their siblings. I loved Wyatt's cluelessness. I loved Gabby's enduring love. I will look for the rest of this series.

  • Karen

There gets a point when the main character is too dumb to notice. I hate that she feels like she has to make him jealous in order to get his attention.
It is a clean small town romance that had potential, but fell flat.

  • Jon C. Hooper

Lots of potential but just not developed well. The main male character was written as a bit dim witted but had ethics. Nothing much was done with the fact he was a billionaire.
Tough for me to read a followup book
