Your Precious Sight: An Optometrist's Most Memorable Cases Reviews

This was a very interesting, informative & lively read. I am a big fan of everything related to medicine, biology, the sense organs etc., so when I picked Dr. Eichin Chang - Lim's book to read, it was obvious I did so because I wanted to know more about the life of an eye specialist. I am glad I read this book. I'm glad I picked it up to read & if you want to learn more about the various diseases that plague a human being's eyes then this is the book for you. Be it Cataract, dry eye syndrome, red eyes, glaucoma etc., all the major eye diseases are dissected & dealt with in a simple easy to read way in this book. 'Your Precious Sight' is educative as well as sometimes shocking. The shocking part is about how sometimes we really take our eyes for granted & how we can in the bargain lose our eyesight. Dr. Chang - Lim through a meticulous documentation & well edited text has managed to really bring out the importance of the fact that we at times take our eyes for granted & we've got to change that. Dedicated optometrist Dr. Chnag - Lim shows her professional as well as sensitive side in this book when she deals with her patients with their various eye infections, diseases, issues etc. It's a real treat to see how she works & some of the bizarre people who come into her clinic for an eye test. I highly recommend this book especially to those people who want to learn more about the diseases that affect the eye, those who want to study more about the sense organ of sight 'the eye', those doctors or soon to be doctors or optometrists who wish to get a good look at what they will be in for once they start their practice & all those people who want to read a good book about medicine, especially maybe because you have personally been afflicted by the various eye diseases mentioned in this book & want to learn more about them. I loved this book & encourage every biology & medicine lover to pick up a copy of this book today, go for it, you won't regret it. The book is well presented with excellent extra reading matter which you should look into as you read the book. I especially loved the part about the 'floaters'. It solved a mystery that I had practically my whole life. No, you are not getting any spoilers from me, read the book to find out about these 'floaters' & how well connected they are to our eyes & sometimes in a life & death situation. The book is really impeccably edited which will make it a more enjoyable read. Kudos to Dr. Chang - Lim on a job well done. I hope to read more books by her in the near future, especially those books about her practice in the field of medicine & optometry. Do support her & her book 'Your Precious Sight'. Happy reading to you!

I had read Love Lock and loved it! Obviously, this is not that type of read. But, Ms. Chang-Lin’s writing is absolutely wonderful! Most people don’t truly pay much attention to their physical health and sometimes even ignore symptoms that indicate there may something going awry. I believe this to be most true when we ignore the eyes. My mom had macular degeneration as I do now. I wasn’t aware until after I began noticing white rings around my irises. My son suffered vision loss in his right eye after a bout of optical cellulitis. Eye diseases, vision loss, and a myriad of other issues are discussed in this very well-written, clearly explained look through the ‘eyes’ (no pun intended) perspective of someone who tends to all issues relating to eyes and eye health. Well done!

Dr. Chang-Lim educates her readers about various issues related to the eye through medical information and anecdotes. The personal stories she shares helps the reader to make sense of the medical lingo. It also shows her compassionate and human side during these experiences.

I could relate to many of the conditions she shared through my own personal experiences and those of my friends and family. I enjoyed learning more about why certain conditions occur and how they should be treated. It also brought comfort to know how to react if certain symptoms may appear as I age.

This is a great informative book for everyone to read to learn more about the importance of eye health. I will definitely recommend it to others. :-)

When we’re young and feeling invincible, unless we have cause, we don’t give a lot of thought to our health, let alone our eyes. That all changes as we age and begin to notice we aren’t seeing as clearly as we once did, or we need stronger glasses, or one eye seems blurrier than the other etc etc.

That’s what makes a book like Your Precious Sight by Dr. Eichin Chang-Lim a “must read”. Quite frankly, waiting until we have a reason to read it might just be too late. Dr. Chang-Lin’s book is not only a delight thanks to the conversational style and copious number of true-life anecdotes, but more importantly for the important information it provides, in easy-to-understand layman’s terms.

Learn not just about cataracts, glaucoma, epi-membrane issues (my own worrisome problem) but find out why some folks have colour blindness, what those strange flashes we sometimes see in the dark mean, how diabetes affects the eyes, how retinas become detached, and even about the damage caused by smoking and drug use. If reading information like

“...an estimated 2.4 million eye injuries occur in the United States each year. Notably, forty percent of eye injuries happen at home, and ten to twenty percent of injuries will cause temporary or permanent vision loss...”

Doesn’t compel you to be more careful in your everyday environment and give you a good reason to wear protective glasses, perhaps Dr. Chang-Lim can. She has included a wonderful glossary of terms at the end of the book, along with plenty of active links in the digital versi(on to take you to websites that expand on what she presents.

Believe me, you are bound to learn much you didn’t know and you cannot come away from Your Precious Sight without being grateful that Dr. Eichin Chang-Lim took the time to write this for us all. Highly recommended.

Your Precious Sight by Dr. Eichin Chang-Lim is a thoroughly comprehensive 'look' at the human eye. But fear not, this is not a text book. Dr. Chang-Lim has some serious writing chops as an award-winning fiction author, and she uses every bit of that talent along with case studies and personal anecdotes from her years as an eye doctor to make every word of it both highly informative and entertaining. Each chapter reads like a friendly chat over tea as the good doctor recounts a patient or two she's had over the years to illustrate one particular hazard or condition. At the end of each chapter, there is a quick summary, a list of the most vital facts learned, and a host of links to the most helpful web pages. The arrangement works beautifully. The good doctor clearly knows how to be a good teacher!
Four of those chapters held something of personal interest to me, so this book was a godsend. I learned more from Your Precious Sight than from every doctor who's ever peered into my eyeballs and recited a list of do's and don'ts. I now know the why of what is happening to my own eyesight, and at last I've taken steps to mitigate the issues. That alone is worth the price of the book, a thousand times over. I also understand more about what is happening to a few of my friends and loved ones, so I'm in a better place to help them. Equally as valuable? Well, let's say almost.
So much needless suffering comes from not knowing, so do yourself a favor. Stop squinting at that enlarged font on the computer screen as you scan for symptoms and look for quick fixes. Just plunk down a buck, read Your Precious Sight by Eichin Chang-Lim, and know. It's a small price to pay to keep such a precious gift.

Like many people, I have poor eyesight. Also like many people, I take my vision for granted. When it gets worse, I get stronger glasses, but that aside, I rarely think about two of the most important organs in my body. Not until I read YOUR PRECIOUS SIGHT, at least.

As Dr Chang-Lim says, our eyes are our window to the world. Our whole existence is inextricably linked to the images relayed; without them, our experience of life would be almost alien to us. Yet how many of us take as much care of our eyeballs as the rest of our bodies? Not enough of us, I'll wager. Especially when we consider the sheer volume of terrifying accidents and illness that menace our eyes on a daily basis.

This book's noble aim, as I understand it, is to educate the likes of me about the various dangers to optical wellbeing that we encounter – and probably ignore – as we go about our lives. No matter how healthy we might otherwise be, our primary sense can be compromised at any time.

In her charming, engaging way, the author talks us through a variety of real-life scenarios. Most have happy conclusions, thanks in no small part to the foresight and expertise of the narrator. Her compassion and empathy are obvious, and she made me care about her patients and their stories.

I received this manuscript in exchange for an honest review; I'm glad I did, too. Not only have I been fascinated by the information and anecdotes in each chapter, but I've also learnt to take my eye care more seriously. Highly recommended!

This is a well-written book about eyesight. Dr. Chang-Lin describes various eye diseases and disorders while incorporating stories of her patients. I was particularly interested in her chapter about macular degeneration since I am in the early stages of this disease. I also appreciated how the author provided basic steps for good eye care. This is a book everyone should read.

Before I read ‘Your Precious Sight’ by Dr. Eichin Chang-Lim, I knew her primarily as a novelist, so I was intrigued to see her first foray into non-fiction. In short, it’s a success. Written in a chatty and accessible style, the author relates a number of actual cases she has been involved with during her years as an optometrist. I must say, her humanity and interest in people shine through the stories. It is a book you can dip in and out of, and each chapter has a learning summary at the end of it. Should you have any eye concerns for yourself or for a loved one, ‘Your Precious Sight’ may help to calm your nerves. Highly recommended as one of those books to have on your virtual shelves – just in case!

What an incredible book! It's so informational! But what I loved about it was Eichin's heart in her profession! She's so human to her patients! And the stories are outstanding! I got baffled because there were many things I didn't know, such as the fact that contact lenses are not to be taken as lightly as buying sunglasses off the counter! She uses simple language we can all understand, and the book is full of links to find out more about different issues she names! I am so happy I bought and read this book! The anatomy of the human eye is incredible! Well done Eichin!

Thank you very much and keep up the incredible writing and work! Looking forward to more writings!
