Death, it seems, isn’t always the end.

I was a soldier, fighting for the lives of the whole damned world, when I went and got myself obliterated by this alien f*ck.

I figured that was it. Game over, done. But then I woke up in a different body, in a strange world full of dust and ruins, with awesome martial arts skills I’d never had before. Not to mention a chi gift thing that seemed to work a lot like magic.

I had no clue why or how it all happened. All I knew was that there were these monster girls I was supposed to protect from an endless horde of semi-human things that wanted us all dead.

And there were these words seared into my brain like a motivational quote:

You can save them. You can save ALL of them.

Of course, I had no clue who the words referred to, whether there was any truth to them at all, or where to f*cking begin.

Rogan’s Monsters: Wastelands follows our hero's sword-swinging adventure across the wastes of a strange new world. It is the first book in a harem series that includes isekai, wuxia, xianxia elements (martial arts and magic), as well as a few gamelit mechanisms for good measure. Set (mostly) in a post-apocalyptic world, it contains violence, nudity, and sex, as well as alien invasions, wraiths, and monster girls.

Read at your own risk.

Not for me. I had a hard time getting through this one. With these types of stories there needs to be one of two things to be enjoyable. Either good characters or a good magic system. The stories for these kind of books are all kind of similar so it is hard to have the story be the thing that stands out. This book didn't have good characters or a good magic system. There was hardly any dialogue in this book. There was probably 15 ages of internal monologue, speculation, or descriptions for every 2 sentences of dialogue. It is hard to get any character development or for me to care at all about a character if they hardly ever speak. The magic system was poorly written. It didn't explain much of how it worked. The world building was also poor. I found myself skimming through most of it.

    Reincarnation Fantasy With Xianxia Elements

This was a surprisingly fun book. As with many reincarnation stories, MC dies at the beginning and gets reincarnated. Except instead of a different world, to a devastated Earth, hundreds of years in the future.

He arrives in the middle of a battle, with a body much more powerful than his previous one, and an innate knowledge on how to use chi do devastate his enemies.

Aside from him all other characters who are traveling with him are female and each one follows a specific archetype: warrior, rogue, alchemist, etc. Dialog between them is good and sex scenes are decent.

A good bet for people who like harem or reincarnation stories.

    Nothing groundbreaking, but good

The first few chapters were a bit rough to make it through and having finished the book, I feel that most of the info from those first few chapters was irrelevant as it was mostly undone one the story got going.

I appreciated the few twists the story had and the writing and editing were on point. There's a few questions unanswered, but aside from that, it was a simple and straightforward book.

There's nothing wrong with the story, it just didn't blow my mind, so "only" four stars.

    Surprisingly good book

    This is surprisingly good.
The book starts where earth is attacked by aliens(but aliens are goblins & wraiths who can use magic) and the MC dies in the hands of a wraith to be woken up in a much stronger body of the same name 600 years later on the same earth.

It was fun, the only blowback is the progression is little shorter.

    Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed reading this book and really liked how the author worked to give us surprises during the story that keep me guessing about what is going to happen next.

This first volume of this fantasy-isekai (teleported to the future of the same world) novel series has a lot of things left unanswered at the beginning of the story. Why 600+ years into the future, and how in the heck did they get the main character that was before a human to another species and being in the future (without retaining memories, but having a ton of abilities that can be used if only the main character remembers to use them). This first volume is extremely confusing because of the many plot holes and things not explained. Why did the main character suddenly appear with that group? why is he supposed to guard and defend this group? why did the author write that Magic ability-mana-aether-qi-ki-etc. is recharged by having intercourse and why is the main character the only guy with the rest of the retinue are all girls...(to make it a harem story) buy main character is used as a mana battery and although the author and main character only think about sex, all of the time, sex is not really a way in any world, much less this one, where one recharges mana. So why does the author keep on using pop-culture references if the years are not current to the story and nobody in that future understands them?
The author and main character are emotionally challenged and have very little to no emotional intelligence. Story is sexually centered and the stories, encounters aren't that interesting or entertaining. Other than that, the author is very creative in the different species that the main character services...
Although this fantasy-isekai to the future series, has at least three volumes, the third volume was published on 2020, so either the series was concluded or it was abandoned. The thing is there is no main plot arc or important secondary arcs to this story. This group of people are just crossing territory and going somewhere, but main character has no purpose and story is just sex, encountering enemies, encountering new members of the retinue-harem, and repeat.

We’ve seen this setup before, our protagonist is reincarnated into another body in a different world. I find myself in the last twenty minutes of the book waiting for the end (which is quite abrupt btw). This is not a good book. The story is shallow, the characters hollow, making it difficult for me to follow. Seriously, the story, along with the plot, is quite thin. The purported isekai, wuxia, xianxia, and gamelit elements are almost non-existent unless you’re counting a spinning sword and utilizing chi as an aphrodisiac those elements. Game stats are mentioned in passing but that’s about all. The harem elements? There are a few mild sexual encounters but they just seemed strange to me. I like the narrator. I’ve always liked Andrew Wehrlen but I’m so used to hearing him perform chaste non-fantasy roles that this one just didn’t fit him. How this book is getting five-star reviews is beyond me. Perhaps this is their first gamelit exposure. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

    acceptable, forgettable, faintly annoying
Yes it has sex scenes. harem like elements (multiple female partners)
I was impressed with Monster Girl Hunter, and with Jungle King, so I thought I'd try more Jack Porter. I'm not as impressed with Rogan's Monsters. The MC is less likeable that the the two I've read. The main female character is unnecessarily aggravating. (is there a "how to write harem" handbook out there that tells young writers to include obnoxious characters?) The 'plot' is dull, and there are many confusing moments where characters act out with no apparent motive.
-The positive side is that despite not having any of the interesting unique touches his latter books would have, this face in the crowd harem book is still entertaining. I'm not a big fan of the MC, but he tries to do right some of the time, and I expect that he is going to grow into a better man.

About the wasteland and Rogan Ward

I have become a big fan of Mr Porter.
I will continue to read his work and I love all of the characters from his stories.
I highly recommend that if you are looking for something that make you smile, laugh and envy a guy in a threesome?? This is it!!

    Has a lot of potential

I liked it. I thought the characters were interesting though the chi-draining and Lady Gamma herself were a bit of a turn off. It’s only the first book and I already like Rohan’s progression. I’m looking forward to the sequels. Bottomline, this’s a good book.

    Fun read

This book has a fun storyline and seems well written. Plenty of action including fighting and loving. Good character development and even some surprises. Looking forward to the next book.

    Interesting Action

A somewhat-standard plot getting a location facelift, along with interesting characters and situations. Nicely written, with good drama, and a great plot growth potential. Recommended for 16+

    Very good book

What a interesting twist on the cultivation wuxia style story. I really liked the action scenes and martial arts style Rogan uses. I recommend trying out this book series.
