DNF...bored out of mind 1/3 of the way through. Sorry, I didn't get why Cora was so harsh and wanted to end things with her husband, Day, so badly. It got to be annoying and I wanted the story to move quicker. It did not and unfortunately, failed to pull me in. A shame because I usually LOVE Niya James books, but this one was boring to me. I *may* come back to it later...or not.

P.S. The heroine has blue eyes??! What?

    The Good
I really enjoyed reading about Day, former S.E.A.L., and Cora. The story of their journey was very engrossing. A big plus for me was prominent appearances of all of the major characters from the first book.

    The Atrociously Bad
I cannot adequately convey my frustration and dismay about the editing problems in this book; they simply overshadowed what should have been a 4* rated book. The content was excellent. I just had to highlight some of the errors throughout the book—run-on sentences, dropped letters on words, extra words, wrong words and homophones, to name a few.

Also, I didn’t find the sexual acts to be all that different from the couple in Book 1–a little more variety would have been preferable.

It grieves me to write such critical reviews, but I’m mad as hell, and books with this level of subpar editing will be rated by me accordingly.

NB: Although no rape occurred in this book, it was alluded to by the “bad guy” many times-that may be a trigger for some. The book is for mature adult readers because of crude, dirty talking outside of and during sexual acts.

Good story, bad proofing, sloppy errors!

This book had a dynamite flow and storyline. Loved the main characters. What saddened me was the sloppy errors. Pronouns were wrong, missing verbs, misspelled words, etc. Whoever was supposed to proofread this story, didn't! It became distracting. Seriously, if you need a proofreader, connect with me. I will help a sister out. Good luck!

    Get you a Navy S.E.A.L

Cora and Day had a whirlwind romance and before she could blink they were married. Before she could blink again he was deployed. His deployment was extended, extended again, and extended again. She couldn't do it and sent divorce papers. Day refused to sign them. When he was finally home for good, Cora knew she would stand her ground and get her divorce, she was even dating. Her boyfriend wasn't happy about the slow divorce because until the papers were signed, she would remain faithful to her husband. Day still refused to sign the papers because he wanted Cora to remember what they were to each other and that the could get it back. He was willing to fight for his wife as hard as he fought for his country. When Cora finds one of her patients a victim of a home invasion and tries to save him, he doesn't make it. Her job forces her to take some time off which gives Day an opportunity to whisk her away to Pennsylvania to the home he bought for them. She gives him two weeks to convince her they belong together, and he has her almost sold before they get there. Her patient gave her "something he wanted her to have," as he lay dying and that trouble follows her to Pennsylvania and she doesn't even know it. When Cora goes missing after an argument, will Day be able to find the wife he's fought so hard to keep in time?

They only knew each other weeks before they married, and Day went into the military. He was only supposed to be gone for half a year, but it turned into years. Cora was lonely and although she worked as a home health care nurse she longed for her husband. When she had her fill of waiting Cora filed for divorce, but Day refused to sign the papers. Now he is home to pick up the pieces of his marriage and try to start a life with his wife, but someone wants something that a patient had given her and will stop at nothing including death to get it. Can Day keep her safe and out of harm's way? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC off this book for an honest review.

This is the first book from Niya James that I had to give three stars, usually she have 4-5 🌟 books. I think it was the combination of poor editing and the fact that Cora was a huge immature pain in the azz.

I know folks don't agree with readers rating books on editing, but when you have to stop to re-read due to poor grammar or misspelled words it hinders the flow of what should be smooth and easy reading.

I must say the story in the epilogue has my interest. (Searching for that book now.)

I loved Cora and Day! Day and Cora's second chance came with a little unknown danger lurking around Cora. Day was total book boyfriend material and Cora was his perfect match. This was a true love story, with a hot S.E.A.L team, some danger, and a whole lot of seduction. I was engaged from the beginning and hated to see it end. I can't wait to see what's in store for the third member of this S.E.A.L. I recommend this book, especially if you need a little heat on a cold rainy day.

    Marvelous Story

Oh my this is such a thrilling experience to read with suspense and excitement and unforgettable characters. The drama is unbelievable along with the sizzling chemistry between the couple. Their relationship is unique and entertaining it's a fascinating romance that I couldn't put down I really enjoyed every moment of their story. There is so much charisma with the characters you will want to read every book in this series.

    Hot and steamy

Enjoyable read. Hot love scenes and great characters. Looking forward to reading Robby's story. Day is hot! Stand alone HEA, could have been 5 stars but there were too many typos.

  • Christina

I really liked Day's character, he was all man. I just felt Cora was a bit too hard-headed and stubborn and look where it got her. But I was glad that he was so persistent and did all he could to woo her back. I voluntarily read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Loved this story. I would have loved just a little more backstory on this couple. How they met, their time leading up to getting married. A flashback would have been great. Love these protective SEALS and the strong women they love.

  • Nerdyviv

Cora needed to give her husband a break! She wasn’t trying to hear anything he was saying.
