If you’re looking for the kind of story about a naïve virgin who doesn’t like alcohol, scrunches her nose at cigarettes, or doesn’t believe vampires exist…this isn’t the story for you.

Oh, vampires? I know they exist because I had the displeasure of meeting some when I was a kid. Don’t worry, they’re all dead.

I'm not a kid anymore. I'm a red-blooded woman with a "glamorous" bartending job at a place called After Midnight, and I thought fangers were but a distant memory. Until he walked in. Tall, pale, and far too handsome for his own undead good. Between the insults tossed back and forth, caught gazes and fleeting touches that made my skin electrify as much as it made it crawl…he came with a warning. An unwanted visitor was on its way to town, and my name had been whispered in passing. With a name like Freya, it was hard to forget.

This time around I have friends to help me keep the arrogant vampire at arm’s length…or at least neck’s length. Not to mention any other creepy crawlies who emerge from the night. I may be nocturnal, but I'll be damned if I ever let the night claim me.

IRRESISTIBLE DEMISE is the first in the After Midnight series. If you’re a fan paranormal romance, urban fantasy, the enemies to lovers trope, and/or a bit of mythology/magic, this is a new series for you!

Irresistible Demise (After Midnight #1) Reviews

I loved this fun, witty, sometimes dangerous, vampire romance.

Years ago, Freya learned the truth about vampires. With her guards down after so many years, she suddenly finds herself thrust into the middle of a supernatural maelstrom with no solution except to trust the one man every instinct has taught her to be wary of.

    description

I loved the way Freya was a bit sarcastic with a tough edge, because underneath it was a soul steeped in loyalty and love for those dearest to her. She might walk and talk tough, but she often found herself rambling or saying the wrong thing, stumbling while doing it. She was a total firecracker and her interactions with her friends were so much fun.

We don’t get a chance to know Marcus’ thoughts and that hindered my ability to connect with him as fully as I did Freya. This is a relatively slow burn without a lot of steam and without his point of view I struggled to fully understand his character.

    description

However, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the heck out of all the drama and danger that circled Freya. This is filled with plenty of action and lots of vampires. Overall, a very nice read that kept me engaged.

“I know you’ve been conversing with vampires, and I’m here to tell you its a bad idea.”

Holy vampire balls (they have them, just so you know. Freya checked) this book was so much more than I expected! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker (get it?) for a good urban paranormal however, it’s more common to find ones based around academy’s and the likes ,than one as delicious as Irresistible Demise.

Freya, a badass bartender and all around snarky girl next door...alright maybe not exactly girl next door , but still. Spends her nights serving drinks to Pittsburg’s regular night dwellers regaling her BFF Rose with tales of vampires. See, she knows they exist , they killed her family years ago and then ...well she killed them. Rose doesn’t exactly believe her but that all changes when a tall dark and handsome shows up ordering a scotch and throwing Freya off her normal grind with those baby blues of his.

Marcus, a centuries old vampire knows something is coming to Pittsburg and when he lays eyes on the fiery red head who not only knows his kind but seems to be able to read his thoughts he knows without a shadow of a doubt whatever is coming , is coming for her.

“If you’re that curious, I can certainly satiate your imagination.”

In an addicting, fast paced tale of ancient vampires, skin walkers and a goddess out for revenge Carly brings humor and passion into the paranormal creatures we just can’t get enough of all while bringing a freshness to the pages that makes it impossible to put down. With just the right amount of sexual tension that makes you bite your nails and danger that makes your undead heart race , Irresistible Demise is the perfect read when your vamp thirst is reaching an all time high.

“Hate me all you need to right now, but don’t you dare hate me afterward.”

Wow. First things first I hadn't read a paranormal novel in a long time. Second this is my first ever Read By Carly, and let me tell you I enjoyed it very much. We Have Freya who is bad ass Heroine with a sassy sarcastic mouth. And mysterious & serious Marcus who Freya hates even tho she thinks he's sexy. We get humor, action, witty banter(My Favorite) fight scenes and some smexy scenes. The secondary characters were fabulous as well. All around a great read.

Thank you @carly for providing me with and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DNF at 70%. Thank goodness for KU so I can take risks on books and not regret it if one doesn't work out for me.

This is definitely a case of me, not the book. The h is an amazing, funny and strong character who knows how to kill vampires. However, much of this book feels like a hundred other books I've already read and the plot advancement and writing are just not doing it for me. And I should know better when it's a pet peeve of mine to have the thought of so many OW from a thousands year old vampire. Dude has been around a lot. (But I'm sure the h in this book will be the exception, ya right). I also hate how the act of feeding off a human verges on a sexual experience and he's been doing that to random, unwilling women for millennia. Remind me again why I read these books?

I'm sure lots of readers might love this book. It's got vampires, werewolves and a vampire hunter type h. It's just not my cuppa.

    Safety for the first 70%

A vampire romance to die for

I really did love this book. Freya’s humour, her devotion to her friends, the push and pull between her and Marcus. I always enjoy a badass heroine who won't back down... Speaking of Marcus, oh my gosh, he was swoony! Yup, I loved him.
I really enjoyed the way Spade brought new elements to a vampire romance. It felt fresh and unique. I've not read paranormal romances in a long while and I'm so glad I picked this one up.

I'm so glad that I chose to read Irresistible Demise. I ordered this book as soon as it was released but didn't have a chance to read it until recently, on the ever important Leap year. It is a fast paced, fun and sexy vampire read! Freya is a strong FMC with some great BFFs and even better chemistry with the mysterious Marcus. I really liked the back story Spade provided for vampires in this novel, I found it pretty unique. This book does say After Midnight #1 however it does not end in a cliffhanger, which I was delighted to see. I look forward to the next book in the series and am intrigued as to where the story will take us next.

    My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟⁣

Wow! Where do I begin? First let me say I rarely read paranormal novels. As in hardly ever. It’s not that I don’t like them they’re just not my favorite. However, this book captivated me. Intrigued me throughout. Kept my eyes glued to the pages till they shut down on their own. UNPUTDOWNABLE!⁣

The story is centered around Freya and Marcus. Freya’s a strong Heroine. Kind of a no-nonsense potty-mouth badass. Total opposite to Marcus’ serious, quiet, enigmatic persona. I loved these characters. They were fun, well developed fixtures in the book. Loved how Freya hated Marcus while secretly crushing on him (hard). Her attraction to him was undeniable. Who wouldn’t be susceptible to a: tall, dark, mysterious man who’s as sexy as they come?⁣

This book is a slow burning fantastic read. Full of edge, steam, twists and turns that makes this writer so unique. Loved the secondary character’s, too. Loved Freya’s connection to them. Can’t wait for book #2.⁣

*Thank you so much @carlyspade for giving me this wonderful ARC in exchange for an honest review*⁣

  • Rosie's Bookshelf

I was lucky enough to be given an ARC and I’m so thankful.

After struggling for days to try and find something to really hold my attention o found this to be the book to do so.

If you love your heroines sassy and strong willed, who have a deep sense of love and loyalty to those she considers family then you will fall in love with Freya...and who doesn’t love a strong possessive alpha vampire who is willing to sacrifice himself for the one he loves.

This story kept me intrigued and engrossed until the end and I’m really hoping we get more of Marcus and Freya and find out what happens with great great +++granddaddy. As well as more of Damian and Frankie, and Adam and Rose.

    4 1/2 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

  • Heather

Not the worst paranormal romance I've read, but nothing to really recommend it either. Hero is alpha but not in a problematic way. Heroine is a little "I'm not like other girls " . Found myself liking the heroine's Scooby gang more than her. Overall just pretty non descript.

  • Sarah

Irresistible Demise is everything one could want in a Vampire book. Action scenes that leap from the pages, twists, a fearless and sassy heroine, witty banter and a slow-burn romance with sizzling chemistry. Throw in some history and intriguing secondary characters who you learn to love just as much the primary characters, she's achieved a unique twist that leaves you eager to see where their stories go next! Looking forward to the next one!

𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕖: It has been years since the last time Freya has seen any supernatural beings. Considering she killed the last three she encountered, the lack of contact has been a blessing. However, vampires and werewolves seem to be stalking her not only at her workplace, but also her home.

It’s clear that she is the prey, but whom can she trust? Marcus, the centuries old vampire who claims that he only wants to protect her from a curse? Or the werewolves warning her to stay away from any and all bloodsuckers?

She needs to decide quickly if she ever plans to live long enough to see her next birthday.
    *~*~*~*
𝕊𝕖𝕩 𝕊𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕤: It takes some build up, but we definitely catch some heated moments a few times before the action hits around the 71% mark. We get some HEAT (🔥🔥🔥.5/5) and some hot fang-play 🙌🏻. Gotta love a steamy pnr! Just missing some frequency and dirty talk, but still plenty of yumminess to sink your teeth into!

【$】: FREE on KU! This was a VERY quick read. If you’re looking for a light/breezy pnr book, this is a definite option. It’s a standalone!

    Hot Dang.

I used to be obsessed with Vampires. They were one of my Go To PNR, then I got into all sorts of other worlds. Goodness it has been at least a year where I’ve read a vampire based book, and not a vampire as a side character. This book reminded me of my love for them. 😍

I was blessed with the opportunity to read this as an ARC. I downloaded it Sunday night and started in. I knew I had to put it down because of my early wake up. It was a struggle. You guys....I got nothing... NOTHING completed at work. I read and read and read. Do I feel guilty? No. Not at all. 😂

First- Freya. I love her. I feel like she is basically me. Obviously a much cooler me. I love her thoughts, her idiosyncrasies, her humor, all of her.

Second-Marcus. SWOON. Dark hair, blue eyes. Bad boy but also smooth swag. And that he just gets and accepts Freya. But mostly I adore his fighting spirit. What makes him, well him. I love that we get his POV in the epilogue. I think if we saw it sooner we’d see more of his connection with Freya.

Third- Side characters. I need besties like Freya, and I wouldn’t mind some new BFF with Shifters and vamps. I love the dynamic they bring to everything

Fourth- Llama Drama. Nothing like someone trying to kill you. It is just complete plot gold.

Fifth- Dannnnnnggggg girl them sexy times. I approve. Nothing like a little bite bite.

If these 5 things don’t convince you to try out this book... then Heaven Help you. 🤣

    Irresistible demise by @carlyspade
Wow what a wild and exciting ride this was, I really enjoyed this book, it had fantasy, romance adventure and comedy all rolled into one. I would describe this as twilight meets Buffy the vampire slayer and they had babies.

Freya is our heroine in this story and she is a sassy little stubborn hellcat and I want to be friends with her.
The character development was great and made you really connect with everyone in the book.

I definitely will read more from Carly and can’t wait to see where this story takes us next.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

  • Charlotte

Bartender Freya (FMC) has had run ins with Vampires in the past which have scarred her both inside and out. So when one (Marcus) walks into where she works what starts as distrust, put downs and death attempts ends up to be something completely unexpected. As well as opening her eyes to other supernaturals. The banter between Freya and Marcus is both funny and steamy. They both play off against each other. Loved that. Also the friendship, compassion and love between Freya, Adam and Rose its a great relationship to read. Funny in parts too. A brilliant read but im wondering if there will be more books featuring these guys? Id definitely read them

  • Rebecca Hefner

Hello, fast-paced adult vampire romance with awesome banter between two sexy characters! I thoroughly enjoyed this book by a new-to-me author! Marcus and Freya are main characters who I rooted for from the very beginning. The book is told from Freya's POV except the epilogue, which is told from Marcus'. I really liked that switch at the end. The sexy banter between them was great and the writing was whip-smart. Not many books give a Lost Boys nod and quote Mark Twain. Well done! Great for anyone who loves a romance set in a human world with other mysterious creatures.

  • Kryst Ashly

    Couldn’t put it down!!

This book was what I’d been missing in my life! Amazing characters, the storyline was great, and the writing was captivating. So, so good!

  • Megan Roberts

Good book, nothing to fault just found not as good as her other books 🤷‍♀️

  • Julie

For my first taste of Carly Spade, I was definitely bitten! I can't wait to jump into more by her.
In Irresistible Demise, the reader is immersed into a fun filled , action packed story full of twists, and witty banter. But have the badass bartender, Freya and a sexy as F vampire, Marcus with a slow burning, yet sizzling chemistry that has readers panting for the next page. Even the secondary characters only add to this great story, making the reader want more of them as well.
I highly recommend this PNR by Carly Spade and cant wait to see what she has in store for her readers next.

  • Katslovesbooks

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book by author Carly Spade. To say it's the first book I read by her and definitely won't be my last. One of my favorite genres to read its paranormal so when started to read this book i was definitely hook from page one. The story evolves around Freya, she is an orphan who lost her family to vampires at a very young age, she grew up always looking around her shoulder because of her traumatic past. Now she is a badass bartender in the city of Pittsburg who has two best friends Rose and Adam (which I really love because they have Freya's back ). Everything changes for Freya one night when Mr. Mysterios, tall, dark and handsome shows up at her bar. Marcus is an ancient vampire that has come to the city because of rumors he had heard about something bad coming its way. The slow burn hot tension that Marcus and Freya have is 🔥🔥🔥. It makes me wish for a vampire just like Marcus in my life. And why I say this you might ask? well let me tell you its been a long time since a read about a vampire that its all for doing the right thing and that is hot. Besides vampires, you get to met this cool "skin walkers", learn about some history and learned about an ancient curse that involves a not so nice goddess. So for me this book was a paranormal heaven, it involves everything I love a paranormal novel and I can't wait for whats to come next in this series.

  • B.B. Swann

Whoever says vampires are out of style hasn't read THIS vampire story. Carly Spade gives a fresh take on vamps. Strong? Of course. Talented? Definitely. Hot? SMOKINGLY!!

Freya, a red-headed bartender with a limited filter and fighting a nicotine habit, is familiar with vamps as they killed her family when she was a child. She gets her revenge, but after growing up in an orphanage, she leaves with only her best friend, Adam. As adults they watch each other's backs, along with her best gal-pal, Rose. Everyone needs two friends like Adam and Rose! I mean, who couldn't use someone to help them gain the upper hand with super naturals with identity theft at a bar?

The dynamic between Freya and Marcus (vamp) had me laughing and fanning myself. Their chemistry is fantastic! Freya might have fought the connection, but I knew it was futile. And I'm glad she finally got on board. Marcus may have tried to be the Alpha male in this relationship, but I was happy to see Freya get in her fair share of wins during their "battles".

The only negative I found (and it's only a negative to some) was the lack of setting details. As a reader, I am perfectly happy to form my own pictures of characters and settings with slight direction. I mean, who needs a two page description of the flowers in a desert? (Think Koontz) But if that is something you need a lot of, you may be slightly disappointed.

I recommend this story to anyone looking for a light, fun, and swoon-worthy romance. With vamps. And a few bloody scenes to spice things up.

  • Amy

    3.5 Stars

I love a good vampire story and this was a good vampire story. I loved the action, the characters, the romance, but the pace was slow at first to build up any kind of action. That was all saved for the end of the book for the battle. The first half of the book drug for me. I wanted more. There was little to no build-up at the beginning of the book, just hints and whispers.

Freya is amazing and fierce. She doesn’t back down from a challenge, which I love. Marcus is a legendary vamp, who is a man of mystery – to a point. Adam, he throws me for a loop. I think he’s secretly in love with Freya, just doesn’t know how to vocalize it to her. Rose, she is the BEST!! I hope she is in the next book and the rest of the series. In fact, she should be made into a vampire.

Marcus is intrigued by this mortal. Could the stories about her ancestor be true? Freya, the mortal is proving to be a tough nut to crack, so maybe they are. He can’t steer clear of her. He wants to protect. Can he protect her if he can’t protect himself? Marcus needs to ban together with another supe in hopes of saving the world.

Ten years ago, Freya killed 3 vamps that attacked her family. Now the vamps are back and they brought an ancient friend with to the fight. Not fair right? Right. With the help of her paranormal friends, can Freya save herself, the city of Pittsburgh, and her friends? Or will she go down in a puff of smoke?

  • Elle Cheshire

This was my first read by Carly Spade and I wasn’t expecting it be so amazing!

I love paranormal romance books and this ticked all the boxes for me. You have sassy badass Freya who already knows vampires exist and hates them (understandable since they killed her family) which was a breath of fresh air from a lot of paranormal romances where the MC doesn’t know about them. Then in comes Marcus - sexy, mysterious and protective - who, as a vampire Freya hates but can’t help but find attractive. Marcus knows something bad is coming and as soon as Marcus finds Freya he knows that whatever the unknown bad thing is, it’s coming for her.

It was a captivating story, and the side characters were equally intriguing with their own very interesting story. They added some great depth and humour to the story, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book to every character.

It was fast paced, intriguing and passionate. An abundance of paranormal creatures but written with a fresh view that made the book addictive! The mix of sexual tension, danger and well thought out plot made the book incredibly enjoyable. I cannot wait to read more about Freya and her new friends. It’s a perfect book if you love vamp romance - which i do!

  • Starre (Orion’s version)

this book felt like a whole ass hate crime.

    Things I didn’t like:

    (1) the world building just didn’t make sense? lol you’re a vampire in the 21st century, go get a blood bag from a hospital to feed

    (2) the appropriate of indigenous myths, creatures, religion. like okay miss Stephanie Meyer. How is our villain going to be an Aztec goddess who changed her name from Xotchiquetzal to Isabela? It’s disrespectful that she’s a villain in the first place and the name change, messed up. (Slight spoiler here) And the way that she’s our main characters ancestor but somehow our main character is a white redhead? What’s going on? AND don’t even get me started on the shapeshifters in this universe. Author seemed to want to take tidbits of indigenous culture and manipulate it to fit a boring narrative.

    (3) speaking of the main character, she was annoying as hell. She can barely fight and she’s running into battle all the time? Idk she was annoying, didn’t like her.

Anyway would NOT recommend. Literally read like 5 words a page for the last 4 chapters because I was so bored 😭

  • A.

This was my first Carly Spade book and most likely won't be my last.

So... I'm not that big on paranormal romances. I mean I've read a few but I don't seek them out but I just happened to stubble across this book and Carly and said what the hell? So glad I did.

I enjoyed it well enough and honestly if this was my troupe I might have given 5 stars. It kept my attention and the flow was great which speaks a lot to Carly's writing as it kept my attention. Plus I loved the chemistry between Freya and Marcus!! And her with her friends!! 😍 Honestly if this were a series I would not be disappointed in the least! Actually I'm kind of hoping it is. Also, I don't like giving spoilers so I can't say what other aspects of the book I liked but as someone who enjoys history I loved the touch of ancient history that was interwoven in the story.

If you are a paranormal fan of hell just a romance fan to begin with I would recommend this book to you!

  • Cyrene Olson

This book was a nice surprise for me. I liked the original premise of the supernatural world, and even though werewolves and vampires have been written together for a long time, this has a refreshing fresh take. The characters are well matched up, including the snarky heroine and her friends. When she re-encounters vampires (and werewolves) she is tossed into the middle of a storm that no one knows why she is a target, but the vampire Marcus and the werewolf pack come to a truce to protect her and her friends. This part was very unclear in the beginning, as to why she was drawing so much attention and why the supernaturals wanted to protect her. The mystery does show itself, and it’s actually a fun ride getting there. The chemistry between Marcus and Freya works well.

This book has some good action, a fun dialog at times and some smoldering scenes and I’m glad I took the chance on it.

  • Carol 27

Freya is a feisty, sarcastic bartender with first-hand experience dealing with vampires. Ten years have passed and she’s still having nightmares from that encounter. When a vampire suddenly appears in her bar with a warning of dire days ahead, will she stake him before or after asking questions?

I struggled with this story. It seemed to take forever to build momentum and to maintain my attention. Despite an interesting cast of characters and a few minor surprises, the plot played out pretty much as I expected as the story unfolded. I liked the following however: Freya’s humour, the action scenes, and the steamy encounters between Freya and Marcus.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
