Vampire royals strategise at 2 a.m.

Last week, I inherited every cent of the multi-billion-dollar Le Spyre estate.

But tequila is far easier to swallow than the coincidence of my beloved grandmother's death.

I'm over this supernatural game, yet walking away from Kyros isn't simple with the damn mate thing on the cards.

The Indebted need my help. My grandmother deserves justice. And, uhm, the third blood exchange did something to me.

It's official. I'm done playing by paranormal rules. I'm making my own--and playing to win. Because if I enter Ingenium on my terms, there's no turning back.

Winning is the only option.

I am already wishing that there were more than 3 books to this trilogy, I thought I loved Werewolf Dens but these books are so much more intense with an Ingenious storyline - I say 'Ingenious' because the name in the game in these books is Ingenium and it is definitely fitting for a pun.

Vampire Towers houses a family of royal vampires along with their Indebted who live in the basement rooms. This is known as a clan. There are two clans. Both are royal clans. There is a game that they play, almost like the werewolves in their trilogy but this one seems more final and intense.

The basic plot line is that one of the clans need to win this game and they do this by rolling a dice and buying plots in Bluff City and who ever buys the most wins the game. Simple? Uh No!

So that is the basic plot but the story, the characters and even the world building are all so much more and like Kelly St. Clare's previous trilogy it is so easy to read and fall into the pages. She has a wonderful way of capturing my attention and making me forget I'm just a 'mere' human sitting where-ever and reading a book - obviously not just any book!

I have already downloaded book 3, I can't wait to see how this works out but it will be bitter sweet because these books were an absolute gem to stumble across and I doubt I'd be so lucky to do so again anytime soon!

My tiny little brain can’t cope with how good this was.

I really need to swear because Holy F*** that was amazing. It's funny, it's hot, it's frustrating, its girl power, it'll make you smile and maybe throw your kindle at the wall at the end.

Basil is just my girl . So quirky and original, she has lady balls and is funny to boot.

    ”Yello”

Yup I answer the phone the same way. Ergo I am basically Basilia Le Spyre in real life. Right? Maybe just a few billion and a butler short of becoming her.

She is now my role model - along side Maggie Smith in Downtown Abbey of course. Her grandmother was Maggie Smith in my head.

This whole book hinges on the sexual tension between Basil and Kyros, book 1 was off the charts and and book 2 doesn’t disappoint either. I’m so happy that she is sticking to her guns and doesn’t fly right into his arms after all her posturing in book 1.

”Kyros was right; most of the allure had to be the suspense of not knowing how good—or terrible—sex between us would be.”

It really kicked off about 70% for me. At that point it became ”sorry family, mommy is busy right now”.
It took me a long time to read that last 30% because I kept going back over the pages to read them again! I didn’t want to move on. The scene at the birthday party was possibly the best thing I’ve ever read.

If you haven’t started this series then you’re missing out. I can’t rave enough. And sorry but it’s not RH for the dedicated RHRers who might be reading this. I don’t even wish it was.
It’s perfect. Apart from that cover, does anyone else feel like Kyros in that picture is inadequate? Like he’s not even wearing a suit and looks way to young

    Much better

I'm dying for the next one. I have not stopped thinking about this series and recommending it to friends since I finished it.
    Bring on some more THRALLS!

Oh hello. What am I doing? Reading book two when I didn't enjoy book one. Yea,something's wrong with me.

I honestly don't know what led me to read this book. I did not like Basil in book one, I did not like Basil in book two. At least I'm consistent.

When I read a book about Vampires, I expect fang, beauty and smutty sexiness. This book delivered one and it wasn't smutty sexiness. St.Clare left us panting in book one only to disappoint in book two. Shame.

This lady forgave EVERYONE who had ever wronged her even one who had tried to kill her but she couldn't forgive Kyros. Couldn't forgive him for keeping something secret. Then when she finds out the secret she sulks and then we had to read about her feeling what Kyros was feeling. I didn't enjoy the whole ping pong feeling thing they had going.

I just didn't like her, they were a number of things she did that aggravated me but I read this book a couple of days ago and quickly put it out of my mind. The blurb of the third one says she's going to be a total badass. Ha! Not interested.

I was worried about how the story ended in the first book thinking that Basil might end up being backed into a corner- but hot damn, girl came out swinging!
I think Basil is one hell of a character, and I am rooting for her- plus I adore her friendship with Tommy.

This book kept me up into the morning on a weekday. It has left me feeling incredibly invested in Basil & the vampire’s game. This series is turning into🔥.

4.5. Wow. That was a massively intense and angsty ride.

I continue to be blown away by this series. It is massively compelling and I can't remember the last time I felt so emotionally invested in the main characters.

However, I don't think I enjoyed this one as much as the first, mainly because of all of the angst and secrets. Don't get me wrong, I think the series is exceptional, but, as I'm so emotionally invested, it wasn't the most enjoyable read in several places and I feel a bit like I have whiplash from all of the backwards and forwards that happens.

Without being too spoilery, Basi founds out a pretty big whopper of a secret Kyros has been keeping, and it is a bit of a game changer for her. She then finds out a massive revelation about her Grandmother that gives her an endgame, one that pitches her against Kyros. But she needs him for her endgame to happen, and they are still connected through the blood bond. She both loathes him and desperately wants him, completely unable to tell what is the blood bond and what is her natural attraction and affection for him.

I both had massive admiration and massive frustration for Basi in this. On the one hand, she is a fantastic character, with a core of steel, tonnes of intelligence and not afraid to wield her femininity as weapon, rather than being the usual physically kick ass characters you see in this genre. However, she is also pretty pigheaded and, in many ways, quite cruel. I understand why she treats Kyros in the way she does, and in many ways I don't blame her, but I felt really sorry for him throughout a lot of this.

At the end of the day, Kyros is a vampire, not a human. One if my favourite things about these books is the way Kyros isn't too humanised. He is an apex predator who has to fight for control almost constantly. He has also spent his whole life enslaved to a game that, if he looses, his whole family will be slaughtered. A family who clearly love each other and are close. He even has a niece, for goodness sakes. All of the shitty things he's done have been through direct orders from his father, or to try and win the game and save his family. While that doesn't excuse his behaviour, I do believe it grants him some empathy and understanding from Basi, which is sorely lacking here. But then, the whole vampire system and hierarchy and the Indebted is pretty messed up too and poor Basi didn't ask for any of this, so I also don't really blame her for what she's doing either.

So basically, no-one is the good guy or the bad guy here (apart from some of the rival vampire clan, they're pretty awful) and this book made me feel like my heart took a beating.

I had hope right at the very end that what happened at the end of the book would help settle things between Basi and Kyros, but now he's the one being a pigheaded idiot (although Basi's actions were pretty stupid and short sighted and naieve), so it looks like the angst will continue!

Seriously though, if you liked the first book this is equally excellent, just far more of a rollarcoaster and more painful to read. I am so utterly desperate for the next book right now!

  • Ana (Hiatus)

I deducted a star due to Kyros being an annoying bastard. He is one of the worst characters I have ever read about.

I don't know how this romance is supposed to work since Basi still does not seem interested in Kyros at all. Good for her, though, who can blame her? Kyros is 150 years old yet he has the maturity of a 16-year-old horny teenager. He spends the whole book sulking and throwing tantrums.

I hope Kyros dies in the next book.

Basi, a 21-year-old teenager, has more maturity than him. She was naive at times but otherwise was an alright character. I don't understand how she tolerates him. She must have a lot of patience. Quite unlike me.

Otherwise, the worldbuilding was unique but kinda stupid at times. And the rest of the book was mediocre.

  • Christa

In the sequel to Blood Trial, Basilla is fighting with her growing attraction to Kyros, being overwhelmed by the complexity of her new world, and the emotions of losing a close family member and inheriting a large estate.

I loved this book from start to finish. The relationship between Basil and Kyros is really developed in this book. There’s more to them than just the blood band, even if Basil doesn’t want to admit it.

There was a lot of character development in this one - Kyros becomes more open and honest. Basilla decides to play the game her own way.

And that ending - thankfully the next book comes out in March.

  • Tracy D.

The main character is so much different from what she was in the first book. I loved how her confidence soared in this one, and she gained a take-charge kick-ass attitude. Seems like she needed to be in her own environment to let badass rich girl Basi come out to play! She reminded of Batman in this book! No spoilers, so you'll have to read to see what I'm talking about.

So many betrayals left me frustrated and angry. Some characters have earned a throat punch or two for sure. Some got exactly what they deserved. The ending was absolutely crazy! Can't wait for the next in series!

  • Nole4Life

This series took a dive fast. I really enjoyed the first book but this one was a mess.

    PROS
    - though it’s a long book it never feels that way.
    - liked the addition of King Julius. Kyros is supposed to be scary but we don’t really ever see it. King Julius on the other hand is very ruthless. He’s a good addition to the storyline.

    CONS
    - In the first book Basi was a fun, smart girl trying to make it in the civilian world. She was more relatable and likable. Now she is just vengeful, cold and acts much older than her age. When she does joke around with Tommy their relationship seems more like an aunt and niece.
    - in the first book Basi is a 21 yr old who had trouble finding a job because she didn’t have any experience. 2-3 months later she is now running a billion dollar estate, has mastered reality, opens clubs on a whim, manages many staff and leads a coalition of anti-vampire humans. So over the top. My eyes hurt from rolling them so much.
    - Basi is convinced that she can outplay the vampires at their “board game”. The vampires have been playing this for 149 years but she is going to come in and take over in 2 years.
    - tired of the back and forth between Basi and Kyros. Kyros has feels horrible and has apologized. Basi states that she believes him but for some reason she is still mean and using him. Kyros should just move on.
    - Basi is able to obtain the loyalty of a hundred vamps because she is nice to them. These vamps have been working for Kyros for a hundred years so I doubt that would flip so easily.

Doubt I’ll read the third book. This series took a dive fast so I’ve lost interest and it’s obvious how it will end.

What’s going on with the heroine?
Why did she change into a kid high on sugar type of character? 🤨

    5 Bloody Stars!

Noooo!! Kelly why you got to do us like that? That ending was so unexpected and now we have to wait for the third one! This book was honestly amazing, and I loved it as much as I did the first one. When Kelly said she was releasing a Vampire book, I already knew it would be unique, and of course, sexy, and I am not even a fan of vampires, but Kelly did get me to fall in love with dragons, so I knew it wouldn't be hard for her to get me to fall back in love with vampires too, which she definitely did.

And the slow burn, which if anyone has read Kelly before, you can pretty much always expect one, but it is so well done. Sometimes I do want to smash their heads together until they want to kiss and make up and live happily ever after, but the other part of me is really loving this tension and how we are watching them grow feelings for each other instead of it all happening way too fast like many other stories.

There was humor, hotness, wittiness, and pretty much everything else that makes a book amazing. I'm definitely happy that we got more of Kyros, and I will gladly take him from Basi if she doesn't want him. He showed his more sincere side in this and I felt all of his emotions as Basila was, and after the shocker that happened, I forgave him easily because I knew he didn't want to actually do it, and that he was caring for her more and more. I love his attitude and protectiveness towards her, and I also love how much he cares and loves his siblings too, even if they do annoy him all the time, but he always puts on a happy face for them.

Basila did have many a times of hard-headedness, but she is young, she's had her life taken away, and now she needs to grow and become stronger without everyone monitoring her moves. She's smart and witty, and I always enjoy seeing her come up with new plans. After that ending though, she is officially a Bad A in my book now. I pretty much loved everything about this book, and it's sad the conclusion is near, but after that ending, I am highly anticipating it. This book is a great way to start the year off with a bang, and finally my first 5 stars of 2020!

I swear every single book I read by this author gets better and better. She has an unparalleled skill of sucking me into the story to the point of obsession.

I love how creative Kelly St. Clare is with her story ideas. The premise of this series is so entertaining and clever. I love the unique spin that she puts on vampires in the series as well. The plot really blew me away in this one. All the pieces fit together perfectly. The story was crafted brilliantly with ingenious plot twists that kept me wanting more. The world-building is very vibrant, pulling the reader into the story. St. Clare's writing style is one that I really connect with. The story rhythm is always perfect and the narration is always a delight to read.

These characters will seriously enchant you. St. Clare's character development is sensational. Her characters are so relatable and genuine. These characters will consume your brain. Basi is the perfect leading lady. She is brave, kind, selfless, opinionated, and she sticks up for herself. She also isn't a special snowflake which only makes me like her more. Kyros's character is one that was hard to map out at first but after the reader gets to know him it isn't hard to see that he is loyal, kind, and protective. Not to mention smoking hot. Kyros cares about his family and that is the one thing about him that has always stuck out to me. This series also has an incredible cast of secondary characters. I love Kyros's siblings so much. They bring so much depth to the story. I also love Tommy and the people in Basi's life. All of the characters have a purpose and have their own personalities which makes this series so fun to read. All of the different characters bring a very interesting dynamic.

The romance really ticked up a notch in this book and I was so ready for it! To prevent spoilers of the first book I will be vague, but I will say that the emotional component of their relationship shines bright in this book. Kyros is still trying to prove himself to Basi and she isn't making it easy for him. Basi does something in this book that really makes him angry and the book leaves off on that and Basi's declaration that she's a lone wolf. So these two still have a lot to work through but it is easy to see the depth of their hearts.

Overall, Kelly St. Clare is a master storyteller that knocks me off my feet each and every time. Vampire Debt was enthralling and entertaining. If you are a fan of paranormal romances that will devour your every waking moment then you need this series in your life. This book has an artfully crafted plot, characters that will win you over in a heartbeat, and a romance that sizzles like the sun. It basically ticks off all the boxes, folks. Grab this series today and thank me tomorrow.

    4 Oh the tension stars

I’m up and down with Vampire Debt. Throughout the entire book you just wonder when Basi and Kyros are going to have sex or when the next blood exchange will happen.

This is a really slow-pace book. It’s for some and it’s not for others. When I read slow pace books the focus is more on the secondary story line and the romance is usually the back-burner. This book is all about the relationship. It’s exhausting and yet you can’t put the book down.

I will agree with some of the lower rated reviews, not much happens except for the last 20% of the book, but I still enjoyed the read. I did start to gloss over some of the detailed parts. I didn’t need to know the percentage of land ownership between each clan had. It was just added non-sense for me.

Vampire debt is about Basi and Kyros trying to work it out. She is frustrating and will not forgive him from knowing about who she was from the start. He’s still demanding and possessive and honestly Kyros is the saving grace of the book. I Love it when the hero chases after the Heroine.

I’m kind of sad the grandmother died without ever having a presence in the book, but that storyline does take a little more space and I didn’t mind that part. I will have to say, the parts where Kyros and Basi aren’t together is a little bit more in this book, so watch out for filler scenes.

I’m not sure if I will jump into the third book right away, only because that is the last book means I’m caught up and I’m not sure I can handle another book with little to no progress.

    We shall see.

    I'm worried...
This is book 2, some 800 pages in and I feel like we are at the beginning.
Where is the development from book 1 or some serious backstory?
I don't feel anything for the main characters, for any of the characters really.
Actually that's not true, I'm really annoyed by the MC. It's like the author is trying to make her something she just cannot be...she's flat, boring. I don't want to be her friend. I don't admire her. I don't hate her. I honestly wouldn't even want to be in the same room or talk with the MC, let alone be in her head for 800 pages.

That's all very negative and it hurt me to write it because I absolutely love Kelly St Clare as an author. I will continue on with this series for now, but this one just might not be for me and that's okay.

If you are reading this remember this is just my personal opinion and you could turn out to love this book.

    3 STARS

This book took turns from fun to annoyance real quick. I think I am more frustrated by the fact that Basi kept allowing everyone to use her and forgiving everyone aside from Kyros. I thought I'm going to like her in this book as well but she does frustrating things all the time. The push and pull between her and Kyros were starting to get annoying. It was fun in the first book but it's been going on forever. Well, at least they finally have sex because my God, it was getting annoying!

I'm also having a hard time trusting Kyros because he's been manipulative since the first book. Also, that temper was aggravating, and his family were all annoying. I started to skim my way through after the 55% mark. I'm still reading the final book though, mainly because I want to see how it ends.

4.5 stars. This was one wild roller coaster ride, for real. The ending fucked me up. They were This series is so freaking good, but hell on my emotions. On a separate note, I absolutely love the agency that Basilia takes with Ingenium in this book. It's epic. That said, that ending fucked me uppppp! Gah.

I just couldn't get into this book. I was getting irritated with 1) the back and forth between Basi and Kyros, and 2) the author continually pointing out that Basi has no/little clothes on. Nothing really rang true for me, so I'm just moving on to something else.

Great progress into the story, but felt like everything was really messy and the lines blurred wayyyy too much.

    I FREAKING KNEW IT!

Long story short, we get to meet Tom's new boyfriend in Vampire Debt. Well, sort of. I had my suspicions about him since we never really met him and then Tom is actually all kinds of weird too. WELL, weirder than she was in the first book. She barely kept a guy around longer than 2 hours so when the L word starts crawling around.. I was suspicious AF.

Other than that, we do get to see more of the hot mess of a relationship between Basilila and Kyros. Seriously messy and all kinds of toxic. I do blame the little blood thing going on between them because they do not trust one another at all. They are also pretty terrible at communicating as well. So all in all.. it's a very unhealthy relationship that is most likely going to blow up in everyone's face.

I'm not sure what the next book will give me relationship wise but since they have done four exchanges, and she's starting to get some new vampire skills, you can basically color me intrigued. Things either need to get better so they can blossom or she just needs to kick this vampire habit and take them all down in this little game of risk.

In the end, I'm going to prepare myself for the next book.

  • Ana

I didn’t think it was possible for this book to be even better than the first one but it was! The whole time I was on the edge of my seat, I just couldn’t stop reading it!
Basil is such an amazing character, honestly she’s my heroine, I love her so much.
I’m starting the next one right now.

  • Namera [The Literary Invertebrate]

This one picks up RIGHT where the previous book ends. I didn't manage to wrap my head around the 'great monopoly vampire game' any more than I did in Book 1, but the romance is good and the characters are funny so who the hell cares.

Also, I adore Kyros's siblings. Comedy gold. The series gets more complex in this one in terms of action, but it's a great step up.

Un deuxième tome avec des rebondissements, certains plus prévisibles que d’autres, et on en apprend davantage sur les membres de la famille de Kyrios.
