Jade Frost thought she was going on a date with her boyfriend--not to his poker game.
She really didn’t expect that weasel to throw her in the pot.
Then he had the nerve to lose. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend. She wasn’t quick enough, though. Before she knows it, a frat boy wins the hand--and her.
Shep Prescott is extremely handsome and richer than sin, but he doesn’t own her. It was just a game, after all.
No matter how disinterested she acts, no matter how rudely she rejects his advances, he keeps coming back. Maybe even more than before.
He could have anything he wants, but she’s the only prize he’s after.
When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree player he shows the world.
So is he ready to win her for real, or will she call his bluff?

4.5“Property of Shep Prescott. Hands Off.” Stars
Monica Murphy delivered an entertainingly HOT college romance that wasn’t anything groundbreaking in the genre but sure as hell made for an enjoyable read.
Shep Prescott is not only filthy rich but is the biggest man-whore on campus. He runs an illegal gambling house with his two buddies of whom will have their own books in this series. Shep… WOW, this guy was crazy hot, arrogant and his fall for the smart-mouthed fiery redhead freshman, Jade Frost was steamy!
”I’m dying to fuck her, but there really is something to be said for anticipation. Who knew?”
Jade is well aware of who Shep Prescott is when her boyfriend accepts a deal of throwing her into the poker pot. Jade’s attraction to Shep is palpable but her defenses are up and the girl I don’t blame you!! He and his boys follow one simple rule….
” Three little words. One. And. Done.”
Shep’s attraction to Jade is just as strong and yes we are treated to the feelings of I think I want more than one night and wow she’s special but the author prolongs their first kiss which my friends were off the charts steamy. When these two finally get on the same page all bets are off my Kindle was smoking!!
Shep gets spooked by his feelings for Jade and runs still things resolve quickly and in a very hot manner. We do get some thrown-in bitchy rich parents issues and sadly the story wraps up too quickly for my tastes but the chemistry between these two was off the charts, the story entertaining enough so don’t judge this high rating is all about falling for the hero sometimes!
Excited about this new series and I'm looking forward to Gabe and Tristan's fall! -
I'm lame and just gave my book 5 stars but I wanted to share some teaser graphics for your enjoyment. And if you want to share/use them, please feel free! Can't wait for you all to meet Shep & Jade!

OMG! I loved this book so hard! I am talking, texting my book besties while reading to tell them about my intense love for this new book.
To say we run in different crowds is putting it mildly, He’s older than me by two years. He’s in a frat and I’m not in a sorority. He’s rich as hell and I am most assuredly not. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for him to know I exist and I am fine with that.
Jade Frost is a freshman, quick witted and feisty. She is attending an underground poker game with her then boyfriend Joel, when she meets Shepley Prescott for the first time. Joel is losing big time and out of resources when he accepts Jade as a term in the bet. As you guess, he loses Jade to none other than The Shepley Prescott.
Shep is entitled, wealthy, and has the reputation of a sex-god and he hasn’t even reached his senior year of college. He has won a lot of odd prizes, but never a girl. A person isn’t really something you can claim, but Shep expects to be compensated through some means.
This is where the story gets unputable-down. The banter and flirtatious between Shep and Jade had me eager to turn the page and see what happened next. The build up, hype and angst just added to the thrill and addictiveness of the story.
She acts like she hates me most of the time and I fucking love it for some twisted reason. She’s a challenge. No girl is a challenge for me. Ever.
Fair Game is about a guy who is used to getting his way, he can flirt or buy his way into anything he wants, but Jade isn’t so easy. Jade is a girl with morals, values, and refuses to bow down to his demands. I love seeing Shep gradually wear her down and earn his place in her life.
This story is why I love reading. It is fast paced, fun, sexy and had me so freaking excited and eager to turn the page. I highly recommend Fair Game!
I just got fucked by Shep Prescott and lord help me, I think he’s spoiled me for anyone else.

Title: Fair Game
Series: The Rules #1
Author: Monica Murphy
Release date: May 12, 2015
Cliffhanger: No
HEA
"Three little words. One. And. Done."
I haven't read a bad book by this author in the NA genre. And lets just say I was quite a bit intrigued when it came to the poker game bet part of the synopsis. A heroine offered up in a bet by her slimy boyfriend in a card game? Well, I couldn't really imagine where the story would lead us. How in the world would she now belong to the hero? Girlfriend? Love slave? (Kidding.) But really, an inquiring mind wanted to know. And what I discovered is that this part of the story was pretty downplayed. It wasn't really an integral part of the book other than a unique means of putting these two in each other's path.
This book did have some basic NA trope. Rich, womanizing, most popular guy on campus meets the average, middle class girl who's unconventionally pretty yet somewhat antisocial. They meet. They're complete opposites who have an attraction with seemingly nothing in common.
That's pretty typical stuff and yes, I've read it quite a bit in one form or another, but if it's written right, it still works. The uniqueness of their meeting and the chemistry during their interactions kept me engaged and turning the pages.
The words are kind of sexy when you think about them. Shep "claiming" me as his, like I'm some sort of possession he can take whenever he wants. Another shiver, this one full body. Those words conjure up all sorts of images, every one of them sexual.
I enjoyed this couple's dynamic for the most part. I liked how Jade consistently and firmly pushed Shep away out of distrust due to his manwhore reputation. He's also known for being cocky, rude, and an entitled rich kid who always gets what he wants. That doesn't give him any points in her eyes. She's completely disgusted by him and she's not afraid to be blunt and honest-no holding back.
For me, this was a pro and a con in the story. As much as I liked that she was intelligent and didn't put up with any of his usual antics, at the same time, I think this part of her personality became a little bit grating and gave her the appearance of immaturity rather than strength after a certain point. She was extremely harsh and unaccepting of him for a large portion of the book and a lot of times I felt it was undeserved. Even when he was being sweet with her and being respectful, she would still insult him. I felt like it could have been toned down a bit, IMHO. But that's just me. Funnily enough, this was actually one of her traits that Shep liked the best. Because no one ever dared push his buttons and give it to him straight like she always has.
She acts like she hates me most of the time and I fucking love it for some twisted reason. She's a challenge. No girl is a challenge for me. Ever.
What I really liked was the hero. He was the star of the show for me. He was an absolute arrogant, and overbearing jerk and yet, from the very first scene with him, I couldn't help but like him. There was something about his confidence and his sexy swagger that was a little bit irresistible. But what I liked the most about him was the fact that from the moment he sets eyes on Jade, he's a goner.
He's not gone for her in an insta-love, I want you to bear my children kind of way. It's an I can't stop thinking about you, and I'm determined to change your mind kind of way. I loved his pursuit of her, seeing him slowly accept the depth of his growing feelings. Everyone knows that when those manwhores fall, they fall hard. And Shep was no exception. She scared him shitless. His "One and Done" philosophy that he shares with his best friends is looking less appealing by the day but he can't stop the tidal wave of feelings she brings out in him.
Fuck. I should run. Push this girl off my lap, pay someone to take her back to her dorm and be done with her. She's dangerous, but worse? She doesn't even know it.
Once Jade started softening toward him, is really became quite enamored of this couple. The tenderness and the genuine feeling of their emotions toward one another was in part due to the fact that she enforced a friendship phase to their relationship. It really allowed them to get to know each other and discover everything under the surface. She has sexual "performance anxiety" that Shep is more than happy to cure. And his parents' failed marriage have caused him to distrust real relationships and closed him off emotionally but she gives him the courage to seek more than his empty and lonely hook ups.
Monica Murphy has caught my attention again with this new group of friends and I look forward to reading more about the fate of Gabe and Tristan. I will definitely be continuing on with the series when
In the Dark releases in August.

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!!!
6 Playing the Game Stars
This is my first Monica Murphy read and yes you can slap me in the face. I don’t know why I waited so long. If you haven’t read a Monica Murphy book, EVERY ONE NEEDS TO READ THIS ONE!!!!
Fair Game is a standalone and is the first book in The Rule series. This is Jade and Shep’s story.
Things I LOVED LOVED LOVED
Dynamics between Jade and Shep is absolutely CUTE!!!
GREAT Banter
Laugh out LOUD funny
The writing flows well with no angst and mild tension
ALL AROUND SUER CUTE BOOK
Jade is at a poker game with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend is losing badly. Shep runs the poker place and is bored. He decides to spice up the game and offer’s Jade in the bet. If Shep wins, he gets Jade and if Shep loses then he pays $50K.
Isn’t that fantastic!!!! I loved that I got Shep’s POV because it was such a treat reading his thoughts.
So, we know what happens after the poker game. Jade thinks Shep is crazy and doesn’t want anything to do with him. I LOVED that Shep goes after Jade. I’m a HUGE fan of the Hero chasing after the Heroine.“I want to both punch him and kiss him, though I haven’t decided yet what I’d do first. “
“I’m starting to realize I don’t mind regular girls. Everyone has flaws, including me. Lies are just that. Lies. With Jade, everything I see is what I get.”
Jade is a freshman in college and she wants to focus on her studies. Shep is rich, good-looking and loves women. Shep is very bored and is very interested in Jade. When Jade and Shep run into each other later at a frat party, oh the tension is too good!“Oh my God, I love how he’s looking at me at this very moment. Like he wants to consume me. I feel the same. Exactly the same.”
I love the sexual tension and chemistry between Shep and Jade. Monica Murphy knows how to slowly build-up the characters and I loved it. I loved that Shep and Jade didn’t have insta-sex. The relationship between them started as annoyance and slowly builds into something more.
I love the side characters as well. Shep lives with his best friend and cousin, which I am assuming will be in the next two books. I found them 100% entertaining. Both of his roommates are players and are exactly like Shep. I liked how they gave him a hard time, but it never created too much tension that took away from the story.
Overall, I devoured this book. I gobbled it up like I couldn’t get my next fix. It was cute, adorable, funny, and all around yummy. I’m putting this book on my favorites and Monica Murphy is definitely an author I am going to internet stalk.

Well, well, well!!! What a pleasant surprise!!!
That book was easy-going, funny and well-written...
Reading it, i was having such a good time!!!
Oh, dear!!! That was a hot, steamy, clever and funny book!!!
And the main characters???
Absolutely gorgeous... both of them!!!
How did they meet each other???
That was a really odd and funny story and i wasn't expecting it!!!
Jade went with her boyfriend and a couple of friends in an illegal gambling house that it was running by three wealthy students... One of them, Shepard Prescott was playing in the same table with her boyfriend and after a lot of bad luck of Jade's part -wait a minute!!! surely it was a good luck!!!- she found herself to be a part of a gambling prize between Prescott and her boyfriend...
Something that pissed her off and her anger became even bigger when Prescott wins her... But that wasn't an easy fight for him since Jade offered him nothing but a big and painfull slap that he'll remember for a long time...
As for Joel??? The boyfriend??? She left him!!! That was the only fair thing to do!!!
I really liked Jade's character...
The girl was having a sarcastic mouth and she was telling whatever she was thinking and that was so funny... She was fiercy and intense... She didn't take bullshits from noone and especially fron Shepard, which was his reason that he got obsessed with her in a way!!! She was the only girl that didn't open her legs with the first hello!!! He had to make her his with any cost...
Oh, God!!! Shepard Prescott...
This man was sickenly beautiful, cocky and wealthy!!!
Ah!!! He also was a man-whore... and he was having some rules... Not once in his life had date a girl and not once in his life slept with the same girl for second time!!! He was just living a carefree life...
But everything changed when Jade step in his way!!! He started to want other things and he was feeling different...
For once in his life he wanted to actually be with a girl and that scared the hell out of him!!!
Jade from the other side wasn't so sure what to feel about Shepard...
Yeah, he was beautiful, but she despised his ways around!!! She didn't want to have a part in all this madness and she tried so hard to stay away from him but he was insisted and he managed to climb upon her heart... And that was the thing that she was trying to avoid no matter what!!!
Ha, ha, ha!!! I will say for one more time that i really enjoyed that book!!!
This book was a pleasant break for me...
And i can not wait for the next story on these series!!!
I'd like to see how they will break their own rules Gabe and Tristan, because they were giving a hard time to Shepard when he did it first!!!
I'm waiting your turn, you little monsters!!! -
4.5 I've Got Her Stars!
Jade Frost is a 19 yr. old freshman in college living in the coastal college city of Santa Augustina in California. Jade & her best friend Kelli are brought to an underground casino by their boyfriends. This place is run by three sexy, spoiled, rich frat boys. When Jade's boyfriend Joel is running out of money while playing poker, a guy named Shepard Prescott aka Shep suggests if he wins, he gets Joel's girl. Shep is known as a total manwhore, and is legendary around campus. Every girl wants him, and every guy wants to be him. Shep is kind of the head of this illegal casino.
When Jade hears the guys offer her up as a bet, she is seriously pissed. Shep wins, and thinks he's going to claim his prize. He's been watching the beautiful, feisty redhead all night, & is used to getting what he wants, & he wants Jade. Shep realizes he's going to have to work for Jade. She isn't going to fall all over him like he's used to. He is so attracted to her & there's just something about her that's different & calls to him. He aggressively pursues her, especially after he finds out she broke up with her boyfriend.
As Shep chases after Jade, he continues to love her smart mouth & the way she challenges him. He eventually wears her down & she agrees to a date. He shows a new side of himself to Jade, & she can't help be affected by how gorgeous & genuine he is with her. He's himself, funny & charming, and she enjoys being with him. As much as Jade tries to resist things turning physical, she can't help wanting Shep. This guy is sex on a stick hot, & when he touches her she can't think straight.
The longer they are together, the more they fall for each other. Jade makes Shep want to change his ways. When he gets scared about how he feels for her he panics & we get some angst. This book took a while for them to get together, & I wasn't sure at first if I was going to love it, but just be patient. We get a ton of flirting & sexual tension, but when these two finally get together it is so worth the wait! It is some of the hottest steamiest sex scenes I've read in a while! OMG this guy is absolutely delicious!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a sexy college romance! Just fabulous! :D
-"There's something about this girl that I think...might be worth waiting for."
& just because you can never have too much of a shirtless Shep...
-I'm on fire for Shep and I've never felt this way about a guy ever.
-There's this awareness between us that's like a low hum, and it pulses through me, comes alive in my blood, vibrates just under my skin.
-I ache so bad for him, I don't remember ever feeling like this for anyone else. No other guy. No one.
-My body lights up like a burst of flame every time he so much as looks at me with those sexy, full of mystery eyes.
-He touches me and I melt. And when he kisses me? Oh good lord, all of my very logical, very smart brain cells evaporate into thin air and I'm left wanting more. More, more, more.
-I can't resist his kissable lips? His gorgeous face? His oh-fuck-me-I-need-more-of-it-now body? Yeah I need to get myself under control.
-How did I get so lucky that this man is mine? -
3.5. Great story, loved it but I could have done without the repetitiveness. The author is constantly reminding us of what a manwhore Shepard is and the constant "tingling" of body parts is exhausting. If it would have been dialed down a bit it would have been a FANTASTIC book!!!

★★★ 3.5 Stars ★★★
Shepard Prescott is an entitled rich boy, currently a Junior at college and along with his friend Gabe and cousin Tristan, he runs an illegal gambling house for the students. It's here at the mini casino that he wins feisty Jade Frost in a game of blackjack.
Jade is not happy that her boyfriend offered her up as a winning prize, especially when Shep makes it clear that he is planning on claiming his winnings. Shep has never met a girl who is willing to stand up to him before and her strong personality along with her stunning red hair and beautiful features, she is looking like she may be the one to tame his ways.
_ _ _ _
Rich boy/Poor girl plus enemies to lovers are personal favourites of mine, and whilst I did really enjoy reading this one, I felt something was missing to give it the wow factor.
There was great banter, lots of hot sex and it was fun. I just missed a more deeper emotional connection between the characters. Saying that, I really liked both characters, I love it when a man realises that having a good woman is so much better than whoring around, and I love to watch a strong man fall. This was definitely the case here."I've been a shallow asshole most of my life.
A product of my environment, I'd say.
But there is always that defining moment when a man decides he wants to change his ways."
Overall I would recommend this to NA lovers, I am definitely looking forward to both Gabe and Tristans stories.
This is the first in a three part series of standalones.

5 - Bitch face Jade has a solid swing. Stars!
Fair Game is not the first book I have read from Monica Murphy, I know for sure it won’t be the last either, but it is the best book I have ever read by her.
There's something about this girl that I think... might be worth waiting for."
Sometimes when you start reading a new book, you know from the first page that you are at the beginning of something special, there’s that little tingle in your tummy, the infamous ’One More Chapter’ filters through the subconscious the whole time you are immersed in the characters and their story as it is unfolding, that was me with Shep and Jade's story, couldn’t put it down.
”Pay up. I won that hand. I won you.”
This isn’t a short book, but it didn’t feel long in its reading, I absolutely adored the initial love/hate between these two, ‘man whore' versus mouthy 'Miss Prim'. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t read a lot of similar books to the themes that featured with Jade and Shep’s story, but it all just worked perfectly for me, I got involved, I got lost in the reading and I fell in love with this couple as they fell in love with each other. The challenges they faced together, the sexy-times, the snark and sarcasm of their conversations were just an absolute joy to read.
Being the first book in The Rules series, I am interested to see where Monica takes us next, In the Dark, Gabe’s book is due in August, and Slow Play, due November 2015, are certainly reads that I will be waiting impatiently to get my hands on.
”There’s something to be said for anticipation.”

4,5 Sterne
Genre: NA Romance
Cliffy? No.
Sensuality: (did not get that far)
Ho-meter: H = manho, h = 2 BFs
H (a college junior who runs an underground gambling house) wins h in a poker game.
I recently realized that I never tried this author before and wanted to see what the fuss was about. Nothing was really appealing and I see that my instincts were right the first time. Where to start?
I wanted to dnf this novel within the first 5 pages. The h is a raging bitch - which is not a dealbreaker - but she is also vacuous, dumb, immature, and has no self-awareness. Those are kinda dealbreaking for me. I couldn't deal with her as one of the narrators because I cannot trust a voice this stupid. I especially "loved" the paragraph where she boasted about her knowledge of gambling and then outright cheated, which was caught by the H. Or how about the part where she bitches about the H literally behind his back and is then surprised that he overheard her? Really? If I have to list every stupid shit she did in the few pages I read, I will be here all day.
Gee, was it hot in here? Well, the author certainly thought so since the word "hot" was using 20 times in the first 60 pages. That? Was NOT hawt. Please get a thesaurus or DIAF :-)

3.5 Stars
Fair Game plays on one of my favorite plotlines … enemies turned lovers.
In this case most of the loathing is one sided.
Jade Frost is decidedly against all things Sheppard Prescott … from his perceived entitled attitude right down to his name … she can’t seem to find a single redeeming quality, except maybe his devastating good looks.
Shep, on the other hand … well, let’s just say he is in complete lust with Jade from the moment he lays eyes on her … even when he overhears her snarky comments about him, he’s not deterred from pursuing her.
Their meeting is truly epic. Jade is offered up as a prize in a game of poker … what the hell? Thankfully, Jade feels the same way I did about this scenario & refuses to play along when her boyfriend loses her to Shep’s winning hand. Jade lets her firey temper show & leaves Shep with a moment he’ll likely never forget.
And the hot pursuit begins!
I really enjoyed the banter in this book. Jade is a very fierce young lady … and even though she is saddled with a lot of self doubt in certain areas of her life (the bedroom) she certainly never lets it slow her down. I really admired the way her character stood up for herself.
Shep on the other hand … as sexy and sweet as he was … I found him to be a bit of an entitled ass, like Jade first assumed him to be. It’s not until well into the story that he starts to really show a different side - for me, it was almost too little too late … ALMOST … I will admit that, like Jade, I did find myself falling for his sexy swagger.
And YES! This book is totally sexy! There is so much heat … thankfully, it was warm enough outside for me to turn on my air conditioner ... wowzers!
The only thing I felt lacking with this story was a true, deep connection between the characters. They had great sexual chemistry, and they proved that over & over & over … but I didn’t get the sense that they had much more than that … the conversations they shared seemed to be very basic - heck they didn’t even discuss school majors until about 80% into the book … I’m not really sure that I bought into the possibility of true love with so little going on outside of the bedroom.
Oh! And one more thing … call it trivial … the models on the book cover do not look a lot like the character descriptions … Jade is supposed to have bright red hair (picture fire) with lots of freckles (ok so the model has some good freckle happening) and Shep is supposed to be a sun-kissed blonde … yeah, sorry pretty model people … I’m not feeling it.
Overall, the story flowed very nicely and I am very interested to read the next book … the teaser was great! I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys other work by this author and/or a nice light romantic read with plenty of steam.

Alright, so here's the thing. I'm a serial "I have to finish this book; what do you mean there's a DNF option????" kind of person. So here I am, at 18%. I can tell you that I tried, but sometimes enough is enough.
So why did I dnf, you ask? Hmmmm... let's see, there were multiple reasons.
1. The icky plotline
I must admit, I was initially intrigued. I thought there would be lowkey dynamic of my favorite otp of all otps in the history of everrr (Coballoway from the Addicted series) but nope. I did like that Jade somewhat stood up to herself in some scenes, but really, she was still drooling all over this asshole of a love interest. The guy pretty much buys their relationship (which is non-existent still in the point I dnf-d at) and then claims he owns her? I thought in my head that perhaps he'd like.. idk.. pursue her in a decent manner, but oh, no! This guy is a fucking douche. Idk what I was thinking that this plotline could offer anything decent.
2. The perfect representation of slutshaming
Let me give you a few examples:
"I met Kelli a few days before school officially started, when we were moving into the dorms. We hit it off right away and I was so thankful since one of my biggest fears was that I would hate my roommate.
We have a lot in common. We’re both sarcastic. We both like to study but aren’t fanatical about it. We’re both reasonably clean. But where we differ is our attitude toward guys. Kelli likes to keep them coming, one after the other. Not that she’s a slut or anything. Far from it. She just ends it with one and picks right up with another.
Me? I take a long time to even find one that I click with. And once I find him, it takes me a while to come around. After I come around and I’m finally ready to say yeah, let’s do this, I like to settle in and consider him my somewhat boyfriend."
She's pretty much saying that a girl who has lots of sex is a slut, just not her roommate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and then we have my fav where the heroine is a cinnamon roll too good, too pure for this world comapred to other girls:
"Ah, the perfect excuse to check out that shirt again. I love how much of her it exposes without being trashy."
Honestly, when will New Adult authors (not talking only about this book, but in general, because it happens in almost every other book I read in this genre) stop labeling girls who love sex or wear whatever the fuck they want (or don't want) as sluts? It's extremely frustrating and disturbing to see guys label girls like this, but even more so to see girls label each other like this. One night stands and short skirts or skin-tight clothes do NOT make anyone a slut. It's highly annoying that 90% of New Adult authors feature this sort of behaviour and line of thought in their work.
3. the gross love interest
The first chapter was actually not as bad, but the more I read, the more grossed out I became. Here's a passage with him and the girl protagonist in the early stages of the book (after he says that "not being trashy" line). [they're at a frat party and she twisted her ankle and he just carried her off to a bedroom to check her leg -- was this the part I was supposed to swoon at because no thanks]
" I cup the back of her head, thread my fingers in the silky soft waves of her hair. I’d love to wrap her hair around my fist and tug her head back right before I kiss her…
“Proud of your man-whore status?”
“I can’t help it if the ladies flock to me.”
She rests her hand on my chest and gives me a gentle shove. “I’m not flocking to you.”
“Even after all that talk about coming and with my hand up your skirt?”
Jade looks down with a sharp gasp, dropping her hand to mine and shoving it out from beneath her skirt. “What are you doing?”
“I thought it was obvious.” When she says nothing, only glares at me, I continue. “I was going to kiss you and hopefully get you off with my fingers.”
Her mouth drops open. Instead of looking aroused, she looks… pissed. Vaguely horrified. “You’re disgusting.”
I lean back. Move way, way back though I’m not getting off the bed. Not yet. I still have a chance.
Or then again, maybe I don’t. "
Oh but wait... it gets better: the girl's POV starts the next chapter and she thinks this to herself:
" I almost fell for all of that. The charm, the seductive tone of his voice, the way he looked at me, the way he touched me. Somehow, without me being aware of it, he’d skimmed those too sure fingers up my leg and slipped them beneath my skirt. Nuzzled my face with his. Freaking talked about being inside of me and making me come all while I’d be begging and shouting his name.
What a perv. Worse? I like his perverted side.
A lot. "
This really grossed me out, because he is so fucking slimy and disgusting and literally the girl likes it? Okay, I can't argue with taste, to each their own, but I will never swoon over a scumbag who is trying to get his hands under a reluctant girl's skirt who he "won" in a game of poker. This guy is disgusting. He literally says that he owns her and she owes her everything when they just met like last night when he won a game of poker and claimed her as prize (how swoony this all is). Here's the direct quote at which the girl is truly [mentally] swooning over:
" “You owe me everything. All that you have. And don’t deny that you want to give it to me because I know you do,” he murmurs, his breath stirring my hair.
God, his words… they do something to me. Has any guy spoken to me like this before?
No. Not ever. "
.....
" “This isn’t over,” Shep calls but I don’t look back at him. He’ll find me. I know he will. We’ll run into each other again and he’ll demand I owe him something and ask for his payment in the form of sexual favors, which should totally piss me off yet somehow… doesn’t. "
lmao; is this book an actual joke or what? I'm clearly missing the punch line here. Also, he calls her Jade Bitch Face. Even still at the point where I DNF-d. What the fuck? I know she either called herself that way or said that she has a bitch face or something but how am I supposed to root for a guy who calls their love interest a Bitch Face in his head and to her face? I'm clearly not seeing the appeal here.
This above is just a small fraction of what pissed me off. I don't usually rate DNF books, but this is an exception I'm willing to make. I haven't read a book this bad for ages and this is a lesson learnt that sometimes I need to do homework and research on the character representation and all that, because this was so awful. 10/10 would not recommend.
Go read something good that actually praises women's sexuality regardless of whether they have a lot of experience or are inexperienced, guys who stand up fo all women, not just their own love interests; guys who are actual feminists and don't degrade other women in favor of their girls and what's more, they aren't slimebags to their love interests. Let me point you to some of my personal favorites:
Addicted series by Krista and Becca Ritchie and
On Dublin Street by Samantha Young. These are the two series that come to mind first, but there are a few more, so hit me up if you ever want some recs! -

Boy meets girl. Girl thinks boy is an arrogant man whore. Boy is attracted and intrigued by her feisty, sassy, and sexy personality. A poker bet lands boy winning a date with girl. But girl doesn't want to be associated with boy and be another notch on his bed post. So begins the quest for Shep Prescott as he tries to cash in on his date with Jade Frost. Can this so-called womanizer who doesn't believe in love and settling done, change his mind and throw out his own rules when it comes to the matters of the heart? When the stakes are high, will Shep Prescott lay out his deck of cards and take the biggest risk and bet of his life...love?
Jade Frost is not your typical shy heroine but a feisty, sassy 19 year old freshman. Her fiery red hair, freckles, and outspoken personality was what sparked Shep Prescott to take noticed of her. He never met a girl who didn't instantly fall for his charm and looks. But when a poker bet lands him winning a date with Jade, all his personal rules of non-commitment goes out the window because he finally met the girl who was the real game changer.
Jade and Shep's dynamic relationship was a fun, sexy, and steamy love affair. It seems to be true when they say opposites attract because although they have different personalities, Jade and Shep seem to be a perfect fit for each other. Their relationship was simply an awakening for these two because they both weren't looking for love and suddenly these two found themselves falling for each other. When these new feelings begins to emerge, will it scare Shep and have him running away? Or will Shep stop finally stop running and admit that Jade is his one and only?
I absolutely adored and loved Fair Game by Monica Murphy. I think this book might be my favorite book that I have read from her. This book left me swooning and falling hard for Shep Prescott. I love that Ms. Murphy has written such a sweet, fun love story that will it will give you those butterfly feelings. So if you are looking for a book that will have you discovering your new book boyfriend and give you that warm fuzzy feeling, then I highly recommend Fair Game by Monica Murphy.

I don't understand this low rating - this book is so good NA.
Yeah, so much cliché but not in a bad way. Shep and Jade great together. Swoony, cute, and sexy af moments.
LOVED IT. -
5 BitchFace Stars!
Jade Frost is at an illegal gambling house down the street from campus with her boyfriend. When her boyfriend has nothing left to bet he offers up Jade if he loses.
Shep Prescott has been watching the beautiful redhead in the mirror all night. He's rich. He's arrogant. He's a one night only guy. He always gets what he wants and he wants Jade.
Imagine his surprise when she introduces herself as bitch face! Then when her boyfriend loses and Shep goes to collect his winning woman she slaps him. Hard!
Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite things to read! This book was full of tension and some smoking hot chemistry! Shep and Jade had me looking like this all through the book!
I loved their banter! I loved that they didn't fall in insta love. I loved that even though Shep was a scaredy cat of his feelings for Jade he didn't one time look at other women. I loved the whole damn book! I couldn't put it down!
I hope we get more of them in the next book in this series. This was a smoking hot book! Loved both Jade and Shep!
Awesome job MM!! I will defiantly be reading more from this author! -
Unbelievably annoying.. I suspend disbelief when reading these books, but sometimes it's just impossible.. Why did the heroine hate the hero in first place? Because he was rich, hot, and had just one time hook ups? So what? She never talked to him, they were never a friends, she wasn't a part of his group of friends...Judgmental much? Unfortunately, I think this author had a very good luck with the ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND series. After that, the books I read from her sucked.
She had super low self esteem, because she was a red head, with her body sprinkled with freckles , had big breasts and couldn't believe why the hero took interest on her, if he could have any other girl, gorgeous girls anytime he wanted.. Give me a break. -
You owe me everything. All that you have. And don't deny that you want to give it to me because I know you do.
Anyone else feeling hot'n'bothered? No?It's just me?God,look at me.Yes,me.Straight laced, good girl Jade Frost is hanging out with a billionaire spoiled sexy brat who runs an illegal freaking casino in a house just off campus. What have I done?Who am I,for God's sake?
Well you get the greater picture.Good girl meets bad boy and wants to do naughty things with him, even though she hates him for being an overly confident jerk. You can imagine how things turn out.
What I liked
-Shep Prescott
He's a spoiled playboy,a complete asshole with the rich guy attitude,he craves the forbidden because it's the only thing that makes interesting his otherwise boring life. The thing though that separates Shep from the other alluring assholes in NA romances is that he is afraid of commitment,he's scared of Jade's effect on him and when things get complicated,he runs away.He doesn't turn into a good guy,it's true that he softens but the jerk is always here, and that's kinda hot.Fine, really, really hot.Excruciatingly hot.
I need a cold shower.
-The humor
Both the protagonists are sarcastic and sassy,I couldn't help but snicker with their banters and the way they drove each other crazy. It was a funny and light ride, without unnecessary drama and heartbreak.
-The love/hate relationship
Jade was physically attracted to Shep but hated his guts from the very start.Literally the very start, the book's first line is I hate Shepard Prescott. And she hated that she wanted him while she hated him and it confused her.As a result, she gave him a hard time, slapped him, insulted him and turned him down, while she was all kinds of turned on.Seeing them flirting and fighting was pure pleasure.
What I didn't like
The sex and the language were too graphic for my taste.I usually prefer romances which explore more the emotional part and give me feelings, while in Fair Game that came towards the end.
That being said,I enjoyed thoroughly this book!If you're looking for sizzling tension and sassiness, you should give it a try! -
2.5-3 stars
I am very much in the minority when it comes to this book. Everyone seemed to love it, and I clearly didn't. I am just so fucking over the college stereotype, I'm not even in this universe anymore. Just. Fucking. Stop. As a college student, I can guarantee that it's not all about getting drunk, getting high, and getting fucked. Unless of course you go to one of those party universities, where it is all about that. But this stereotype is getting fucking redundant.
I'll point out the things I didn't like:
1) Meeting the girl at an illegal ring where betting is involved - Travis and Pigeon anyone?
Beautiful Disaster
2) The mind reading bullshit. Seriously. What the actual fuck? Find me two people in real life who know exactly what's going on with the other. Yeah, good luck, you fucking won't.
3) The bitch mother figure and spineless father. Old book, old news.
One Week Girlfriend
One thing that I didn't understand was the semesters. Their winter semester ends in May? And then you have summer? When does fall begin and end then? Where do the spring and summer semesters go? Here at the U of C, we have 4 semesters: fall (September to December), winter (January to April), spring (May & June), and summer (July & August). Some universities combine spring and summer into one and have another 4 months semester. I think that's how it is all across Canada, and maybe it's different elsewhere. Dunno. As someone completely immersed in the academia of university, the academics portrayed in this book didn't convince me. I understand that this was a romance, but the supporting evidence for what a university is like wasn't strong at all.
This story just rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning, and so even the little things annoyed me to great lengths later. -
I loved this book! Both Jade and Shep are well-developed characters, and their relationship is both realistic and swoon worthy. I love books that somehow manage to be both spicy and slow burn, and this book doesn't disappoint! It’s almost comical how Jade tries to resist Shep, and every time he makes headway with her, they get interrupted. Too funny!
I loved this book and I can’t wait to read Gabe’s love story!

If you are a fan of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire you will highly enjoy this novel by Monica Murphy.
I highly enjoyed this book it kept my attention up throughout the night. I love the whole story/plot which is a well written new adult novel which centers around Jade and Shep and well their chemistry is off the charts. I really liked how Monica made this into a dual point of view novel not only do we get Jade's pov we get Shep's which made me love him even more. He doesn't let the alpha get to him as other heroes are written.
I do wish that this series was written just for this couple because that's how much I loved them together. And Jade is a girl who doesn't take sh*t and let me tell you the things she did made my jaw drop.
(Longer review to come...) -
LESEEMPFEHLUNG! :) -
I LOVED IT!
Enough said. :) -

I have fallen crazy in love with this book. As soon as I began reading, I knew that it was going to be good and I was right. By the time I had hit the twenty percent mark I was head over heels for Shep and Jade and hooked by their story.Guys have ignored me pretty much my entire life and I was used to it, thank you very much. The first gorgeous one who comes along has for some reason set his sights on me and now he won't leave me alone. I should be thrilled.
Shep was a gorgeous, slightly cocky and extremely rich collage boy. Spending most of his time enjoying the usual activities that most wealthy college kids do, gambling, drinking, girls and of course, partying hard. Life appeared to be a blast for Shep Prescott and then Jade walked into his life and things got even better. She's a challange. No girl is ever a challenge for me. Ever.
Jade was a cute, loveable collage girl who had little confidence in her appearance so when Shep entered her life and began to pursue her she just couldn't understand why. One thing Jade was certain of was that she refused be another notch on Shep's bedpost. He had a reputation and she was not gonna give in to his advances, no way! However Shep was relentless. Jade had piqued his interest and was determined to know more. Let the fight commence! lol."I wish you would just leave this alone."
"Maybe I don't want to."
"Clearly."
"Maybe I want to see you even more. Maybe you're all I think I think about."
Jade and Shep made one hell of an exciting couple. They shared so much chemistry that I could feel it pouring out of the pages. Their connection was impossible to ignore. Watching their relationship bloom was so addictive, I couldn't wait to see what happened next between them but at the same time I was a little afraid to keep reading, afraid that something would go horribly wrong for the couple. I loved everything about this pair and I did not want to see them heartbroken. He shouldn't affect me this way. I shouldn't care. He shouldn't matter. But somehow, someway. he does. He's wormed his way into my brain and I can't stop thinking about him.
As I have already said many times in this review, I loved this book a lot! It was one of those stories that made my heart beat faster, where I could practically feel my heart beating out of my chest. It was that good. The characters were so easy to fall in love with. Shep was so yummy. I adored every single thing about that boy. He treated Jade with so much love and tenderness, it was clear that he had fallen hard for her. Lucky girl! I was so happy that Jade had found a man like Shep to care for her. She was just so sweet and lovely and deserved to be loved and cherished in the way that came so naturally to Shep. She blew my mind. Rocked my world. Made me smile. Made me laugh. Made me want something I never considered possible.
I was reading this book every spare minute that I had and I quickly devoured most of the book until suddenly, to my horror, I only had two hours of reading left. I was enjoying this story so much that I did not want it to end so I tried to savour the remaining time but it was impossible. You know when you are on a diet and you have your favourite bar of chocolate, you are determined to make it last as long as possible. Only eating one square at first but before you know it, the whole bar is gone? Well that's how I was with this book. Once I had reached the final page, I was gutted that it had ended. I wanted more Shep and Jade. More of their delicious story. Bring on the next book in the series which, even though it is Gabe's story, I am hoping for a few appearances from Jade and Shep!!I just got fucked by Shep Prescott and lord help me, I think he's spoiled me for anyone else.
I have always been a huge fan of Monica Murphy, ever since reading the brilliant "One Week Girlfriend" series and I don't say this lightly because that series will always be one of my favourites however in my opinion this was Monica's best work. Jade and Shep's story has consumed me and it has gone straight to the top of the list of my favourite books by this author and definitely one of my favourite of this year so far. I never thought that I would see the day when I loved a book more than the One Week Girlfriend series. Move over Drew and Fable there is a new gorgeous couple in town! The minute I kissed her, touched her, everything changed. I want no one else. Just her.
If you are a fan of Monica Murphy, this is a must read and if you are a newbie to this author's work then I would highly recommend starting with this series. Hit that one-click button, peeps. You will not be disappointed!
I know without a doubt that I'm falling. Falling in love with her. So I'm taking care of what's mine.
"Fair Game" gets ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ from me! -
MONICA MURPHY NAILED IT
I freaking love this book! Everythings was so perfect, sweet, funny, amazing and refreshing!
Shepard Prescott is a rich boy who likes to sleep with girls, play gamble and live like there is no tomorrow but one night changed everything and BAMMMMM!
I seriously loved him! Even at first when he is cocky as hell you can't help but falling in love with him! I loved how he changed because of Jade. His actions, the way he talks about Jade and TO Jade - SWEET AND SWOONIE! How he was willing to pursuit Jade and how funny he was. He was ready to quit his games and be the man Jade deserves!
I'm completely inlove with his obsession over her freckles and red hair! It was tooooo sweet!
I bet in the end Jade feels were:
Jade Frost is in a boring relationship and when the things happend more differently than she expected she is a little shoked! At first she is not A BIG FAN of Shep but like I said you can't help but falling for him! She was so fierce and funny! A little self-conscious but her walls fell when she felt secure with Shepard. I loved their connection and conversations. They both changed for a good reasons and find out that they relationship would work!
There were a lot of times when I was like..
The steamy scenes got me..
The FUNNY scenes.. and they were a lot..
Overall this book was AMAZING and already love Monica Murphy!!! I cannot wait for Gabe's and Tristan's story! I'm sure they will be just as amazing as Fair Game!!!

I found myself really enjoying the story, the banter, the characters.
"Bitch Face Jade" officially meets the rumored man whore Shep as her boyfriend loses her in a bet.
Shep is not only the campus "one and done" guy. He comes from a rich family with rich people problems, and runs an illegal gaming ring with his best bud Gabe and his cousin Tristen.
So needles to say Jade does not like Shep. Although she finds him attractive, she doesn't want to let him know. At least, not easily.
They had great banter. I found myself loving Sheps pov, he was probably my favorite. As they fight the attraction, well, Jade tries. It continues to build and they give in as they run into each other and start hanging out.
One thing I might have changed, is less fucking and more of them as a couple.
It felt that once they hooked up, it was like rabbits screwing. Not that I mind! But I wanted more interaction between them other than the screwing.
I did like that Jade wasn't made a virgin. Although she lacked sexual experience, she was willing to try things a with Shep knowing how many girls he had most likely screwed. She wasn't a runner and she didn't have gray eyes. Those things pleased me. She was also a red head with freckles and I could picture her very easily.
I had a lot of fun reading this book and will look forward to Gabe and Tristen's book. -
DNF @ 35% I liked the hero but the heroine was getting on my nerves. I felt the story was going in circles, him liking her her being a bitch and around and around. Sorry :(
