I’m a lot of things.
The youngest Dixon. Town handyman. Best you’ll ever have . . . you’re welcome.
One thing I’m not? The guy who falls in love.

When Rae Jacobs enters my town with her ever-present laptop and caffeine addiction, she offers me a fleeting glance and a simple demand:
Don’t fall in love with her.
Bold.
Assuming.
Laughable, considering she isn’t exactly my type.

Wasn’t.
But she inadvertently shook up my life with her alluring, carefree spirit until I wanted more.
Until I made her mine.
She’s a habit I can’t quit. A fix I can’t get enough of.

Each day brings me closer to saying the three words I’ve always mocked.
But with one call, the piled-high secrets she’s kept start unraveling around her, and I have a feeling the demand that first day wasn’t so simple.

Misleading Blurb, Hero Still in Love with dead Ex, and needs Trigger Warning about EDs

This was terrible. I will say this again, if there’s anything worse than the dead spouse trope it’s the dead girlfriend, the High School girlfriend at that. Not only is it ridiculous, it’s extremely unrealistic to think that a grown man truly decades later can’t get over the girl he used to love in High School who died. I honestly have yet to see that in real life. Not only that, but the blurb gives you ZERO indication that this is about a dead girlfriend, which makes it even worse.

So, Leighton, that’s the name of the dead girlfriend, died a decade ago when they were in high school and the dude can’t get over it. And trust me, you won’t forget about her, her name is mentioned 106 times in the book. If that’s not second best, I don’t know what is. Anyway, Leighton clearly had an eating disorder and died from it. However, this book again has ZERO trigger warning about this. To make things worse, it never addresses the issue by its proper term and at times victim blames poor Leighton for being sick and many times it hints at how poor Sawyer was so destroyed by “what Leighton put him through”, how “she destroyed herself” how “she took herself away from him”. Seriously! How sad and disrespectful is that! Victim blaming someone that was ill is not ok.

By the time I figured out what this is about, I just didn’t care much about what happened. I’m definitely not a fan of dead anything books, especially when one of the MCs clearly has not gotten over the dead ex. In this one you will have Leighton thrown in your face all the way to the end.

I actually liked the heroine and her backstory but she definitely deserved better than Sawyer. Sawyer sweared he loved her but never took her side, even when the bid secret was revealed (which I had already figured out), he once again took someone else’s side. To boot, the heroine is the one that has to come back to him because you know, making the guy actually go after her and grovel was too hard. Ugh, it’s a shame the audiobook has such great narrators. I don’t recommend this one.

I liked this, but whether it was the fact that I'm still shaking off the effects of the flu and am crabby or that I was annoyed by the prolonged longing and angst between H/h, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Most of the book is spent with the heroine, Rae, telling the hero, Sawyer, not to fall in love with her. His reply is never because of his back story of losing the only woman he's ever loved. And take a wild guess what he does in the years following his loss?

Ding Ding Ding!!!!!!!!! He becomes a man whore!!!!!!

Well done you for guessing correctly!

There is an interesting twist at the end which is a nice surprise but the constant push and pull between Rae and Sawyer is exhausting.

    3.5 Stars

Here's my disclaimer, in case you're concerned by the rating: I enjoyed this book. There, that should do it. However, there are some aspects that I would have like to see cleaned up.

This is a story about two people who are hugely impacted by previous events in their lives. They are broken in some very serious ways. They both struggle with feelings of loss and abandonment. They both struggle to find their place in the world. I love an angsty book if it's done well, and, for the most part, this is.

We meet Rae as she's escaping yet another relationship with a man who's dared to fall in love with her. See, that's her one rule: no attachments. What we don't learn about, yet is hinted to often, is why she arrives in the small town of Ember. Yours truly, however, figured out the big secret almost immediately. Don't worry, that didn't detract from the story whatsoever, which begs the question: why did the author wait so long for the reveal?

Moving on, so these two have instant chemistry and the attraction is palpable, even through the biting banter. I did enjoy watching their romance evolve, it was a slow, simmering burn with lots of sexual tension and spice. I enjoyed watching their friendship blossom as well.

Yet, I felt like there were a lot of aspects to this novel which weren't fully realized. For instance, the reason Rae is in Ember to begin with. We get our big reveal but there's no resolution to it. It's just sort of left to sit there. Yes, I expect that the author will pick it up again later in the series but I don't want to have to wait or guess. I earned the right to know.

Also, there's constant talk of Sawyer's ex but never once does he truly divulge to Rae what happened. Huh? He pretty much demands answers from her but he never once offers his own. No thanks. This part of the plot felt unrealized. I expected we would learn more. I expected Sawyer to confide, to own his part of their struggles to be a couple, but he doesn't. Which makes his reaction to Rae's truth that much more annoying. When we get the big reveal toward the end, he turns his back on her. Excuse me? For someone who's endured the loss and heartache he's suffered, this didn't feel like a natural reaction to me. Coupled with the fact that he never shared his own truths, I felt wholly unsatisfied by this part of the novel.

I also wanted more of the family dynamics, especially to understand the rift between the Dixon boys, but I expect the author plans to unveil that throughout the series. I just wished she'd given me more.

Altogether, though, this was a good book and I did enjoy reading it, I just wanted a smidgen more from it.

Fix is my first from author Molly McAdams but it definitely won't be my last. This is the first novel in a new series, about a small town with big characters and maybe some secrets.

Rae and Sawyer are the couple in this book. They are both incredibly scarred from their pasts, which means they're both not emotional available and have some huge baggage. Love is not a option for either of them. But no matter what they are drawn to each other.

Rae is a writer which lets her be “unavailable” to men. Her job takes her around the country, and that suits her fine because she doesn't want any attachments with the opposite sex. She makes it a point to run from her feelings, if she has any at all. Sawyer is a man who lost someone that meant everything to him. He felt helpless because there was nothing he could do to stop it. Years later, he's only good for a night, and makes no qualms about telling the women in his life that.

Rae is a character that some readers might not like upon reading at first. I didn't find her annoying but her aloofness was a bit tiring after a few chapters. She'll take a little to warm up to but she's not a character that you won't find nonredeemable.

I did find Sawyer a bit tiring too. But I understood his reasoning despite my objections to how he handled situations. But I felt his moods shift when Rae came into town and my opinion changed as the story went along.

Their story was very emotional and somewhat chaotic. But these two fought to find their happy ending. And it paid off in spades for them. After all, nothing worth having comes easy. Molly delivered a wonderful heartfelt story about the power of love and forgiveness. Be prepared for a story that will make you rethink certain aspects of your life.

Definitely recommend anyone who loves a small town romance filled with incredible characters and passion. I am awaiting the next book!

**TRIGGER WARNING: THIS BOOK HAS LOTS OF NAFF CONTENT ABOUT EATING DISORDERS**

Listen, overall, this would have been a perfectly fine, if overwraught (the number of times her soul and/or heart were some variation of 'ripped out of her chest' was like... a lot), modern het romance novel. Except... it wasn't. For two reasons:

    1) The. Leading. Lady. Is. Thirty. But. EVERYONE. Calls. Her. A. 'Girl'. Not once (NOT ONCE) was she a 'woman'. And not ONCE was the leading man called a 'boy'. So. Yay misogyny and infantalizing women! So sexy! So loving! So meaningful!

Two, as mentioned: The representation of anorexia is downright insulting.

First off, it NEEDS TO BE MENTIONED IN THE BLURB. It is incredibly thoughtless to just dump it on readers with no warning, not even an oblique mention. Have some respect for your audience, for the love of Pete.

Second, I kept waiting... and waiting... for someone to call everyone else out on their victim blaming. I'm still waiting, and the book is over. 'She took herself from me' is the most vile, self-centered, cruel way to express 'she was mentally ill and died by suicide via anorexia'. Hell, I would have settled for any of those words ('anorexia' 'suicide' 'mental illness') showing up, even just once. But nope. Instead she just 'didn't see' that Sawyer loved her as she was and the girls who bullied her (oh that's another word that was never used but needed to be) were just jealous and she should have ignored them, blah blah blah fucking blah. Took herself from him?! Way to insult & belittle everyone who has suffered from an eating disorder.

So like... if that doesn't bug you, then the sex scenes are hot I guess? OH actually I do have one piece of genuinely positive feedback - I loooved that both the leads had solid platonic opposite-sex friendships that didn't get strip-mined for drama. That is very rare, in basically all fiction ever, lol, let alone in romance novels, so it made me super happy. :)

Fix was a beautiful masterpiece. It shattered my heart and left me in tears. I can honestly say that I can't even remember when was the last time I cried so much.

Rae having been dealt a rough hand is constantly on the run. She runs from commitment. She runs from people. She runs from her emotions. She is constantly on the run but she is content with her life. She is successful and is independent. She ends up in a small town called Amber where everyone knows each other's business. She is the new chick in town which made everyone curious.

Sawyer Dixon is just as curious. But him for different reasons. And because of his curiosity, he takes it out on her. There first couple of run ins don't go so well but they leave a lasting impression on each other. They both are not looking for and do not want commitment but walking away gets harder and harder.

I loved Rae's temperament and personality. My heart broke for her. She was the main reason for my tears. To be honest, when I went into this book, I thought that it's quite long. What could possibly happen but... so much took place. So much hurt. So much heartbreak. So much misunderstandings and so much love.

This was a definite page turner. Molly McAdams cemented the fact that she is a favorite of mine.

    Where do I start......

Fix is the first book in Molly McAdams new series and I'm super excited to see what comes next. This book went back to the style of Taking chances and From ashes, it was that feeling of total enjoyment in the story to the point you find your body relaxing and you look up to realize you have been reading for hours with a cheesy smile on your face.

I total had that dumb smile on my face! My husband even asked "so that's a good book?". And it was so good, it made my soul feel at peace and made me feel good after reading it. I found myself sneaking off to read it when I have the chance and when it was over I had to just take a moment to let it sit while I wondered how many days until book 2...

    Fix
is the newest wonderful novel by Molly MacAdams, it's the start of a brand-new series with all new characters just waiting for you to fall in love with them and their small little town.

    Fix
brings us the story of Rae and Sawyer, who are both drastically scarred by their past. They both have an enormous amount of emotional baggage. Rae has been made to equivalate love with goodbye and grown into a person who runs at the first sign of it. Her job as a writer allows her to constantly be on the move and avoid any form of attachments. Sawyer lost the love of his life and there was nothing he could do to stop it and the last thing he needs is to fall for someone again, especially someone with no plans to stick around. Sometimes you can't stop the heart from wanting what the heart wants. Their story isn't an easy one filled with heartache, pain, hope and love.

"When she finally answered, her voice twisted with torment. "I can't let you fall in love with me."'

I almost gave this book five stars and the only thing holding me back is the fact that I didn't love Rae in the beginning. She is very shut off but I guess that's how she's supposed to be because she has all these walls up to keep her heart safe, so in hindsight McAdams accomplished that personality. Rae definitely grew on me, and I was hope and waiting for her to get her sh*t sorted out so herself and Sawyer could stop hurting.

"I got the strongest feeling kissing Sawyer Dixon would be just as complex and exhilarating as the man himself. Demanding and passionate, lazy and teasing."

All the stars to Sawyer. I may have a crush on high school Sawyer, oh lordy that young man just made my heart explode with happiness. I seriously swooned over how much he loved his high school girlfriend. I was quite smitten with adult Sawyer too, when he stopped being intense and odd in the beginning. He just felt everything so deeply even when he tried to avoid it. When him and Rae are together it's chaotic and emotional and even when things are going good, you're sort of waiting for something to set one of them off. Their happy is hard fought and completely worth it.

"There was something about this man towering over me and looking down at me like I was his everything [...] that made my heart beat wildly in a way that had nothing to do with exertion."

Molly McAdams never fails to deliver an amazing story with complex characters and packed full of emotion. I got to a point in Fix where I knew that it was going to hurt and I tried to prepare myself but can you ever really be prepared to be slammed with feelings? If you like a small town romance filled with emotion and passion than Fix is for you. I am already dying for the next book in the series!!

    ~ 3.5 Stars ~

Fix is an enjoyable read and the newest book by Molly McAdams. I found the storyline interesting, but it didn’t WOW me like Molly’s books have in the past.

I have read many books by Molly McAdams and I have loved them all, this I felt was missing something. I can’t put my finger on what it is, it just didn’t spark the same emotion all of her other books have in me.

I truly think my biggest problem with this book were the characters. I loved Sawyer. He was a broken man who shut himself off from love and commitment because of a tragic incident in his past. I loved watching him grow as the story went on. As for Rae, I can say I didn’t really like her much. I understand why she was broken and pushed people away, but I felt she pushed Sawyer away for way to long. She made my connection to these characters as a couple hard. So when I have a hard time connecting with a couple it makes their connection feel forced or unbelievable.

With that said I would recommend this book to all fans of Molly McAdams. I thought this was an good start to this new series. I loved that she set it in a small town in Texas. I have always loved a good story based in small towns. Molly did a fantastic job writing this story and town, she made the reader feel like they belonged in this town as well.

This book is the first book in her newest Brewed Series. This can be read as a standalone. It is told in Dual POV. I liked the flow of the story, but I felt the pace was a little slower than I usually like. Some of that has to do with Rae. This book also lacked some of the drama we have come to expect in a Molly McAdams book. That might be what I felt was missing and why this book wasn’t a 5 star read for me.

In this story we follow the journey of Sawyer and Rae. Both of these characters have serious baggage from their past, which has caused them both to push away love and commitment. Rae is a romance novelist and has come to Amber under the guise that she is researching a small town feel for her newest WIP. But she is also harboring a secret. What will happen when her secret comes out?? Will she stay in town?? Sawyer went through something tragic back in high school and it has caused him to put up walls where women are concerned. But what happens when a new person comes to Amber, Texas?? Will he be able to keep her from getting under his skin?? Read this book to find out.

I loved all the secondary characters we meet in this book. I think Sawyers brothers are rough around the edges and I can’t wait to see Molly bring out their softer side.

As I said I would recommend this book to all Molly fans. If you like a romance story that focuses on small town living and you don’t mind some flawed characters, then this is the book for you. Just because this wasn’t a 5 star read for me, doesn’t mean it won’t be for you.

Skimmed a lot but finished… choppy at times…this was too long and drawn out. I hate flashbacks especially when they are about dead ow. Just give me the basics. Repetitive and redundant😁. Weird how the fmcs mother abandoned her at 3 and then gave her second daughter the same name. So much of this book was just weird like the H avoids curvy girls and sleeps with only skinny girls because his first love died from anorexia??? She thought she was too fat for perfect football Hero… so… after she dies he’s a manho for only skinny chicks??? Weird… I know repeatedly saying weir is repetitive and redundant.

  • Jane Hughes

How amazing would it be to Rae and have every man alive fall in love with you so often that her first conversation to a man is “ don’t fall in love with me”. She really says this and she really believes it and apparently it’s true. But ... why? What makes her so great? She was just a whiney ,bitter , woe is me martyr who was all about revenge and pity.

Overall this was a good story but some things felt a little unfinished to me by the end. Or at least not fleshed out enough. Especially the whole reason Rae was even in town, that all came to this dramatic climax....and then nothing. There was one or two mentions of what had happened and a discussion with Rae and the other person (Sorry for being vague but don't want to spoil it) but we didn't even get to see or know what was said during that. So what was the point? Same with Sawyer's family, their drama didn't get enough attention in my opinion.

Also it was mentioned near the end how the entire town and Sawyer's family apparently kept bringing up his ex. Yet that was never actually seen on page. At least not to the extent that they were acting it was. Other than Rae saying she had heard the exes name around town in whispers and one or two times his family said her name. But again it wasn't something that was actually shown a lot to know what the town had been saying that supposedly had such an impact.

Maybe I'm being picky but those were the things that I can't stop thinking about now that I'm finished the book. I did enjoy it though, don't get me wrong. Overall I liked the relationship between Sawyer and Rae and that was enough for me to still like the book.

  • Up All Night Book Addict

I am going to be completely honest. I haven't read this author in five years. It had nothing to do with the author. It was more of me losing interest in reading so much romance. I own every single book of this author's though. I decided to jump into this series on a whim, looking for something a little emotional. And I got exactly what I was looking for.

I devoured this book. It was fun. It was sweet. It was heartbreaking. It was a book that had multiple conflicts swirling through it. By the end, everything came full circle. The characters and their struggles with themselves created the most conflict. I enjoyed every last aching second of it.

This author has a knack for putting two tortured characters in the hot seat together and then have them come out together in the end in such a beautiful way. I'm questioning why I haven't made a better attempt at getting caught up with the rest of her books over the years.

This is the first book in a New Series and for me it was the perfect start.

Rae and Sawyer, both Broken Souls, both avoid commitment and relationships.

Rae ( a romance Author) has come to Small town Amber hoping to face some demons from her past. She didn't plan on liking the town, or the people.
Sawyer although attracted to Rae knows she is definitely to be avoided or his carefully built walls could be under threat.
I loved how Molly McAdams has written this novel, we get to know and love not only the characters, but we feel we also get to know and be part of the town. Even the side characters adhere themselves to your heart.
Both Rae and Sawyer have major issues, and at times i just didn't feel either of them would totally be able to overcome them. Both carry secrets that could tear apart their fragile friendship/relationship. Both fighting against their normal actions of running if feelings started to creep in.
I kind of loved and hated their push pull, their chemistry was off the charts and i loved the times they just lived and let it occur and hated when the back and forth of their battle with their emotions crept back in!! We dwell in their strengths and we drown along with them in their vulnerabilities.
The little twists that kept us in suspense, the love of family, and the struggle for families that are torn apart, the healing oh this book had it all !! I can't wait for more!!!

  • Beth

    Awful hero, crappy ending

I really disliked Sawyer. From his body shaming comments at the start, to his utter self absorption and sense of entitlement throughout, he just infuriated me. Somehow he managed to make all the women in his life's problems about him. From Layton's eating disorder to Rae's abandonment issues, he can only see their problems in how they affect his life. He's whinges and whines and never once tries to dig deeper and support them. How can he be a hero!

I liked Rae, she seemed to be the author's take on the clichéd damaged hero, so it was good to see this flipped. And her backstory was interesting and made her understandable. I see some people call it a twist but it was telegraphed from the start so I don't agree. I was annoyed by her constant repetition of 'don't fall in love with me' as it's such a cheesy line. But I tried to ignore it. I never really understood what she saw in Sawyer. He makes little effort to understand or support her. Guess she was blinded by the sex.

When the big reveal happens at the end, somehow Sawyer manages to disappoint even further. His first loyalty is to his friend, not the woman he loves and he is just so awful to her. He knows her fears, her backstory and he still acts like a complete ass.

This was a romance in which I wished the heroine had kept on moving on. She deserved so much better than what she got.

  • tee

this was so unbelievably repetitive, i lost count how many times rae told sawyer not to fall in love with her whilst in the same breadth pulling him closer. how do you not see the contradiction there? way too much push and pull; sawyer and rae are both unlikeable characters as individuals but together? no.
some of the plot and dialogue used is quite clearly problematic and there was no trigger warning in sight for what happened to sawyers girlfriend in hs.
    (TW: eating disorder)
frankly i was more interested in the story and love between sawyer and leighton. having said that though, rae’s backstory was so interesting and she was such a complex character. the audiobook was also really good so that was a plus. even though this was not my favourite i cannot wait to read about emberly and cayson!!

This is my second ARC from the author and probably my favorite.

I was intrigued from the first page to the last. It's a story about taking risks, resilience and forgiveness.

It's swoony, angsty and sexy all rolled into one... The pacing was good, the characters were fascinating and the whole storyline has it's own uniqueness.

    Loved this small town romance!

“Sawyer wasn’t my anything. He couldn’t be. So why did he feel like everything?”

A slow building romance, this book had everything I love in a small town romance - meddling friends and family; sexy men; town gossip; and family secrets. Sawyer and Rae both have tragic pasts that have shaped their futures in unexpected ways but together their broken pieces don’t feel so broken anymore. When Rae comes into the small town of Amber, these two definitely do not start off on the right foot. I loved the push and pull of the heat and tension shared between them until they finally let go and gave into their desires.

“It doesn’t matter that I didn’t want you, because I crave you.”

Neither Sawyer or Rae were looking for anything remotely like love, but sometimes we can’t control how our heart beats differently when we meet our soulmate. With Rae being a romance writer, you’d think her life would be romantic and idyllic, but with the secrets she carried around in her heart, her life was nothing like the stories she tells. I loved that with Sawyer she was able to build a relationship that finally won over her heart and gave her a true place to call home. And Sawyer, I would be hard pressed to not fall for a man who puts everyone first, trying his hardest to hold his family together, a man who knows how to take care of others even if it breaks his own heart. I absolutely love Molly’s storytelling and her ability to capture my heart over and over, another fantastic book.

“I came to you, but not to forget because I don’t want to. I came here because all I see is you. I came here because it felt like I couldn’t breathe until I was with you.”

  • Cait

Look. I'm not going to be the person to stand up and say that Molly McAdams is the best romance writer of our generation, but she is a reliable, predictable author, in the way that many indie/self-published authors who started in 2010-2012 are. I know I'm probably going to enjoy the romance, though skip bits and pieces of the book as a whole. There's usually some good found family stuff, and blue collar/cowboy/construction/hands on heroes. In 2020, that's sort of all I want. I don't think this book will be particularly memorable (huge CW for eating disorders btw), but I will definitely be reading at least two more books in this series (each book is about a different brother, because of course it is)

Overall I enjoyed it, but I’m still not sure how to feel about it.

TRIGGER WARNING: eating disorder, dealing with death

This book had a MAJOR trigger warning for me which I wasn’t expecting. Little by little it was introduced, and I thought I could handle it at the level that it was, but it got so intense. There were so much emotions throughout this book it was super overwhelming for me.

I felt a little bit annoyed with the characters near the end of the book, and it seemed to drag on. I would like to carry on with the series, but at the level that this first book was at if it’s the same I’m not sure I will continue on. I was just not emotionally ready to handle everything that happened.

    Small town ✅
    A romance writer ✅
    Enemies to lovers ✅
Both characters holding past traumas close to their hearts ✅
Friends to lovers agreement only ✅

This was a super cute read, Rae and Sawyer were so good together without even realising it. I LOVED the small town vibes all the spots mentioned in this town sound magical.

I really enjoyed both characters and felt their pain, if anything I found the story to be a little dragged out but

Oh how I can’t wait to read about the rest of the Dixon brothers.
