As the daughter of Dracula, you would think I’d be born the perfect monster.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

As far as monsters go, I’m a screw up—if I’m not tripping over my own feet, I’m accidentally murdering someone (it’s a real issue, guys).

Left with no choice, Dad decides to send me to Prodigium—otherwise known as Monster Academy—to train me on how to be a better monster.

When bodies turn up on campus, I’m the prime suspect (not that I can blame them. I’ll be pretty suspicious too if bodies drained of blood show up right after Dracula’s daughter arrives).

With the help of my mortal-nemesis Vin, Van Helsing’s son

Frankie, Frankenstein’s son

Mason, Medusa’s son

And Jack (sometimes Hux), Dr. Jekyll’s son

I might have a chance of uncovering the truth.

If I’m not murdered first.

The struggles of being a vampire, am I right?

This is a horror comedy reverse harem with some dark elements. After all, you can’t have a bunch of monsters without some darkness. This is book one of a series.

Monsters (Prodigium Academy, #1) Reviews

Imagine. Just imagine, all the monsters, myths and legends you have ever heard. Done that? Now imagine it all in one book. Like that? Then this is the book for you.

This is not the book for me .The whole Clumsy but adorable persona has only worked with one person and her name is Willa, everybody else, not so much. Violet is clumsy and the daughter of Dracula but don't worry she's adorable. So adorable in fact that all the guys want her. Frankie, the son?experiment? of Frankenstein, Vin Van Helsing, Mason Medusa, Jack and Hux Hyde of the Jerkall and Hydes, Dimitri Gray of the Dorian Grays. So not only did I have to deal with the corny names but the equally bumbling idiots of her mates. I didn't like any of them. They were already waxing epistles about her and she had only spent 24 hours in the school. She was already going batshit crazy at any and every female that looked at her mates within the said 24 hours. It just got too much.

Memorable mentions in the monster montage.
    Loch Ness's daughter
    The White lady
    The Boogieman
    Cupid
    Jack Frost
    Yeti

....and very many more. If you can think it then it was in this book. I think it is equally clear that I will not be revisiting this series.

So bad it was good!! Entertaining and easy to read, I finished this in an afternoon thanks to some good old fashioned stress reading. Great fun :)

OHMYGODS!!!! This book was friggin hilarious! It had me giggeling the whole way through. I just couldn't put it down. An absolute masterpiece!

I love how quirky Violet is. I totally need her as my bff. All the characters are well developed and the story flows smoothly. I'm dying to read book two!!!

Hurry up and one-click this amazing book. Just remember to not drink while reading. Uncontrollable giggles are a danger combined with fluid intake

As an author, I don't get nearly enough time to read but when I do, I tend to go for my favorites like Katie <3 This book literally had me obsessively reading for four hours straight, despite the work I totally needed to do. Not only did it have all the sassy snark you could want but the guys were literally amazing. The complexity and diversity of their personalities and potential different motivates blew me away. On top of that the story line was filled with mystery and action that had me crying when the book ended LOL no worries tho book 2 is coming soon!
PS - I won't give spoilers but I totally have a few more boys I have questions about... Looking at you Dimitri.

    3.5✨️
Could have been a 4✨️read, but I'm just not in the best reading mood right now,😔 and I feel a slump coming.😭

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this cover. It's hard to pinpoint what the issue is, but for some reason something feels off and no matter how I try to not see it, I can't. However, the plot sounds amazing and perfect for me so I just got the entire (incomplete for now) series. Especially because I know that Katie May never disappoints. And since last week I finished the last, currently published, book in another Katie May series it was now finally time to dive into this one.

This book was everything I had hoped it would be and maybe even a little bit more. The idea of putting all those kids, descendants from the famous monsters and monster hunters we know from gothic literature and myths and legends, in one school is amazing. But to add mate bonds to the mix is making everything even better. Especially when that mate bond comes up with some really interesting pairings.

For the biggest part this book is simply a lot of fun. I've been laughing out loud quite a few times and these characters ended up in quite a few entertaining situations. But, we are talking about monsters of course and we're also talking about a Katie May book. So, there also was a murder mystery, there was some politics and there were some action packed and very tense moments too. And after all the information that's been revealed, I can't wait to read the next book.

I also can't wait to read on because I just really loved the heroine in this series. Dracula's daughter is everything you don't expect Dracula's daughter to be. She's clumsy, she's socially awkward, she's slightly naive and she doesn't have a bad bone in her body. But, all that makes her easy to like, to fall in love with and to root for. It's also quite interesting to see how the relationship with the guys will develop. All of them are amazing and done so well! I can't wait to see much more of them!

  • Paula

I love the craziness of Katie May's heroines

  • Camila

    I’m gonna say 3.5 stars.

    I didn’t hate it
    I didn’t love it

    I laughed a lot.
    These characters are funny.
    but not hilarious

    THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

    Where is this series going?
A lot is left for answering which is cool and all but I’m not like dying to know what happens next.

    I mean I wouldn’t mind, but still.

Violet: her one brain cell and Barbie-doll carcass are sent to a school for a reason I can’t remember. If the author was going for funny she did not hit the mark. Violet is the walking stereotype of “dumb blonde”

NO OFFENSE TO ALL BLONDES IN ALL SHADES OF BLONDES. Not you dirty blondes go hang with the brunettes you imposter.

    The guys:
Vin: wow he switched teams from fam to mate hella fast. No wonder Diedre said not to trust him. He’s all over the court.
    Frankie: meh
    Mason: hilarious
    Hux: so what’s his superpower?
Jack: is he just a vessel?

Which leaves us with some rag-tag crew which I don’t think includes Dorian because everyone is a CHILD except for him so if he’s a part of this “harem” I’m calling child protective services.

The plot: ummmm.... no words here.

So that’s really it. Nothin’ special. Some laughs, yes. Woo.

    3,5-4 ish stars
haha this was hilarious! I love Katies characters, they´r so fucking funny. But that ending was not okay, you can´t end a book like that :(( it was sorta chliffhanger and not really. it ended a lil abrupt and stuff i guess

  • Isabella - SnooRegrets

I ... ah ... yeah, nah, not gonna rate this. This obviously wasn’t for me.

  • Natalie

Deciding on a rating for this one was tricky. Would I read it again? No. Will I read the next one? Most likely. I liked the introduction and the multiple POVs. The monster theme was nice and I liked the variety of guys that make up the harem.

A little mystery, a lot of dick jokes and humour. The MC got a little tiring. She didn’t feel original and crazy seems to have been pigeonholed into being a clutz, having no filter and blurring the lines of sexual/gross humour. Lost interest a little around the middle but the little funny moments brought it back. Halloween costume.

Curious about Mr Gray and adore Hux. Some really random nicknames going on. I’d keep reading solely for a detention club story. I love those two.

  • 4foxsake

    Awesome!

Great book! Really awesome character and storyline. Can’t wait to find out more about violet and her guys. A little mystery, a little murder, a lot of fun, some heavy petting and the boogeyman round out this great story. Can’t wait to see what shenanigans they get up to next!

  • Christy Bailey

    I NEED MORE!

I could not put this down once that first page was open! It was truly that freaking Amazing! I have so many unanswered questions so I cannot wait for book 2 to come out! I need it like I need to breathe! Definitely a great intro to what I'm sure will be an epic series!

  • Danielle Murrell

    Oh I love it

This book was so freaking hilarious that I couldn't quit laughing the whole time I was reading it. It is a must read. I'm on to the second book

  • Heather Gilbert

    4.5 rounded up

This is a hysterical romp, the kind of tale you’d expect from Katie May. There’s mystery, romance, paranormal hijinks and enough humor, both innocent and raunchy, to keep the pages turning. Like most of her stories, it ends on a cliffhanger and is a delightful slowburn, but it’s the perfect mixture of action and general WTF? 😂

First person, multiple POV, slowburn RH, MMMMF(M?), Cliffhanger, PNR, Academy, NA

    Pros:
    - Very, Very Funny!
    - The next generation of monsters.
    - Her inner monologues are the stuff of legend.
    - The monster mix is on point.
    - So many questions!

    Cons:
    - Only bad thing? Cliffhanger without the next book out..... and that’s just the way things go, lol! I’m not crabby about it, just impatient. Write fast woman! 🤗😂💕

  • Dezi

    Great story with amazing characters

Really enjoyed this story! Violet was awesome and quirky. We get to see how she and all the other monsters are. I love Violet so much.

  • Hannah Wenna

    Hello

What can I say except that this book was amazing! It’s got mystery, halariousness, lots of mates a completely nuts MC loved it and can’t wait for more.

  • Tiera McMillian

I'm loving this! This totally has this "Monster High" vibe and I an in it to win it folks. Love the FMC, I mean how does this girl have so much confidence and yet just be so bad at almost everything. Its incredible really and just super endeared me to her. Not only that but I am loving all the guys right now too.. even ones that I don't think are ours?.. *shrugs*

Violet, our FMC, is the daughter of Dracula the most fierce and feared monster of all time... yet here she is just bad at being a monster. She really tries hard, honest but is always coming up short. As a last ditch effort, dear old dad, snaps her neck and ships her off to monster school to learn the ropes. She is bound and determined to get her freedom back and also be the best monster she can be.. And, look at her.. making friends with all the other monsters and frenemies with others.

This book had some serious name dropping happening folks and I'm so excited about it really. I just wish I knew what was really going on here. All of a sudden species who have never "mated" before are finding their one true mate, some shady things are going down with a professor.. and the crazy headmaster is out to get us for no reason. Not to mention dead bodies are piling up and noone seems the wiser. There is also a lot of vampire hate going down. Totally excited to see where this book is headed with Violet and our guys.

I'm just not sure? I absolutely loved the humor, the wild characters and personalities. But the story was so outrageous and parts of the book were just shake my head really moments? And then all the insta love..... dont get me wrong I really do love violets character how brash and hilarious she is, but the story was too unbelievable for me. Still an okay read.

It's a real skill to perfect such a smile. I had to practice for days in the mirror before the humans stopped running from me. Apparently, grimacing malevolently while holding the severed head of your enemy is not the way to make friends. Who knew?

I'm so picky when it comes to RH, yet, I found this to be exactly what I needed. I forgot how funny heroines by Katie May could be. Dracula's daughter isn't as badass as she should be, so he sends her to Prodigium Academy.

At the academy she meets four men: Vin, relative of the Van Helsings; Mason, son of Medusa; Jack who's also sometimes Hux, Dr. Jekyll's son; and Frankie, Frankenstein's son. Four different men that catch her interests, while she catches hers.

She's just trying to attend the academy, but these dudes are a distraction. It doesn't help that people keep trying to frame her from murder and bully her too.

This was hilarious. I totally stayed up way later than I wanted to finish this. I highly recommend this because I'm thinking this will be the best one yet!

    Admittedly, DNF

From the very start I wasn't at all impressed with the story,. By 14% I threw in the towel. It's like little clips of crazy. Incoherent, superficial and totally ridiculous drivel. It's humorous, I suppose, if you're into stupid humor that isn't at all witty or natural. I feel the author lacks skill in telling a complete story. Like I mentioned before, it was being told in clips, not easily defined either. So I figuratively scratched my head a couple of times trying to figure out the jumps to these different clips of crazy stupid. The only way I can put it into words is that the story lacked the glue to hold it together of some semblance of a true story.

I'm awful at leaving three star reviews when I can't quite figure out how to rate a book.

I had never read a reverse harem before I got kindle unlimited. Since having it they are all over my recommended reads. They actually aren't my cup of tea, but they tend to still unlock my interest.

This was no exception. I read the description and was determined to read it regardless of the issues I already have with this trope. I don't think it would be right of me to rate this lower because of that. There have been a few that I have loved with the trope. So I remained hopeful. I'm glad I read it

I did read it all in one sitting staying up way later than I should have. I laughed my behind off. I liked most of the characters and I was often surprised. I legitimately had no idea what was going to happen.

On another hand it over sexualized everyone and everything, which is often an issue I have with this trope. Here it still seemed like more than the usual reverse harem's have. Then it ended with a cliffhanger that felt like more of a cut off than an ending. Nowhere can you find any mention of when the next book is coming or if there even will be another book at all. So I guess I'm temporarily placed in a state of neverending questions.

  • Klizbeth

A Bit of a let down

    3 Stars for quality
    2 stars for enjoyment

I’m not sure if I like this book at all. I don’t think I enjoyed reading it, but I also can’t point out anything particularly wrong with the book. It was just underwhelming.

Violet, who is the daughter of Dracula, is sent to an academy for monsters. She’s sent there because she’s a failure of a monster. She’s not cruel or vicious or deadly. She’s clumsy and nice and friendly. She’s not deadly at all from what I can see, though I’m not sure she realizes this. There she meets several men who are her mates, not that she knows this.

Anyway, this story has a typical academy plot-line where students are suddenly being murdered and FMC and crew have to figure it out and stop the murders because she’s being framed for them.

Not much romance so far. Not much character development so far. Not much world building so far. Relationships are basically at the friendship point, but they’re all surface level friends. I’m not sure she can actually trust the guys at all.

It looks like there is going to be a large harem and the story seems to be leaning towards having MM relationships involved.

  • Danielle (Danniegurl)

Great start to a new series.

I really actually liked this one. It’s got humor, lots and lots of humor. Violet often goes into really humorous tangents and it’s a blast to read. But the things that happen are confusing. I have no idea who the major players are, and what’s going on with the murders. Plus this Dimitri there’s something going on with him. I almost thought of him as her mate, but we the audience haven’t gotten a single POV from him. So I am not clear on his motives or what’s going on. We also got some information but I’m not sure how trusting I am of the information and how trusting Violet should be of the information. However where her venom possibly came from would be insane. First there’s only

I’m excited for when the next books come out because I’m intrigued about where this goes.

  • Kristen Dalrymple

Violet is absolutely hilarious. I love her so much, especially when she has weird thoughts, and then thinks that why she has no friends. I honestly thought the killer was going to be the headmaster or one of the vampire hunters since she was framed. I was honestly shocked that it was the to nice teacher, who was also her sister and dropped several bombs. She said that Violet is not Dracula’s daughter, she is not a vampire, and she got her venom from her boyfriend. So that was a lot of plot twists. I’m trying to figure out exactly who Dimitri is to her. Is he a mate? Was he hired to protect her? Are they related? Did her real father send him? I have so many questions.

  • Dallass

    Uh, this was odd.

This went in a completely different direction than I was expecting. What first caught my attention was having the characters being the offspring of monsters, and I liked that aspect, but it wasn’t your average academy reverse harem situation. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I’m giving it 3 stars just for the novelty.

  • Amy

I’ve been putting this book off for a bit now, it’s been sitting on my tbr list and I finally just said f-it. I’m glad I read it, parts had me cracking up laughing and some even had me surprised. I’m off to get book #2.
