Absolutely fantastic adventure with Dan Reno and his best friend Cody!! Whenever Reno finds himself in a tight spot, Cody makes sure he is right by his side to help him figure out where to start for any needed info or answers!! Another story I could NOT Put Down!!!
The characters are fascinating, the scenes so described that you feel right in the middle of the action, and can feel the still air in Florida as Dan tries to locate a man in a 'side' job. Nothing seems to go right, a problem Dan has run into several times, but Cody will be there to assist, his girlfriend,Candi,is home, providing a stabilization in his life, and Dan looks to do what is Right. The folks he tries to help pay in cash, use fake names, and suddenly Dan is in jail!!
I thoroughly enjoy reading this author's stories, and feel as if Dan and Cody are real friends! A fun, action adventure that will take you far away from your couch, and leave you in a pretty good mood! I received an ARC from the author, who I thank for a fabulous tale of two friends, and I give you my honest and true feelings and thoughts in this review. Start this series, you Will have a good time!! -
I hope it's not the last but I have no indication on a new one. Right Cross by Dave Stanton is the latest Dan Reno book. I really like this series and would love for it to continue, but the end of this sounded like the end of the series. Dan gets a job finding a missing nephew but is he really that? Who is the man and woman wanting to find the guy? Something sounds wrong and suddenly Reno faces jail for murder. This is a really good private detective series and although Dan and his buddy Cody has their own way of dealing out justice maybe is why I like it.

Dan Reno has time between jobs taken as a private investigator and in those between times that he is not sleuthing he often works at Zeke’s Pitt, a restaurant that he is part owner of. When he receives a call to meet with people looking for Manuel Alvarez, their nephew, he sends them to Zeke’s and meets with Luis Alvarez and Claudia to determine particulars of the case. With retainer in hand, and a bit of skepticism on his part regarding to Luis and Claudia, he heads out to find Manuel. Little does he know that when he takes this case he will end up traveling to Florida and The Dominican Republic, be charged with manslaughter, work with his buddy Cody (do like Cody) and deal with some reprehensible characters. Dan seems to have a bit more stability in this book as he is now engaged to Candi, a college art professor and daughter of a lawman, and he seems to be settling down. That said, he is still on the job and a force to be reckoned with. I do like this series!
What I liked:
* Dan: he takes on the tough cases and sometimes questions what needs to be done but does it anyway.
* Cody: I really like Cody...he is willing to do just about anything to get the job done and is always there for his buddy Dan. I do hope he eventually finds a bit of peace...and a hot bodacious woman that will be able to keep up with him.
* Candi: She is there for Dan but doesn’t cling...she knows the ropes and keeps a clear head while providing a safe place for Dan to rest/land.
* The fight scenes and learning what a right cross is
* That one of the people I liked managed to “get away” though I have no idea where he ended up.
* The bad guys getting what they deserved...and there were several that deserved more than what they got!
What I did not like:
* The bad guys...I wasn’t supposed to like them and it was easy to hate them
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Will I read more in this series? Definitely!

I received a ARC from the author last August and read it immediately. I was blown away! Now that the book is published I read it again and was as entranced and entertained as the first time. The book is set in the now, and includes the effects of very recent current events. As always, I wished to have a friend like Cody. Put this book in your library and re-read it whenever you need a thrill.

Dan Reno is an investigator who lives in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
He takes a case to find a missing person despite the fact that something doesn't quite add up about this case. But he hasn't had a case in a while and needs the money. Famous last words!
The client paid his fee in cash and is using a phony name. Dan finds the missing "nephew" twice but the kid gets away before the client can lay hands on him.
Dan decides enough is enough and wants to give the money back but then things really start to go wrong.
Dan gets in a fight with the client and the new District Attorney decides to use this occasion to put Dan away. He has two weeks to find out the real identity of the client.
And the stakes are very high since his fiancé, Candi is pregnant with their child and the pressure is on to solve this fast.
Meanwhile, his partner finds out what is going on and shows up and figures it all has to do with a prior history they have with a few dirty cops they turned in, in San Jose.
The chase is on to figure it all out! They end up in Miami, then the Caribbean, and have to track down all kinds of people in dirty dealing criminal areas. Once again, Cody and Dan are on the edge and dangerous to the bad guys! -
Dave Stanton is my favorite noir-crime writer and Right Cross is a great edition to the Dan Reno series.
I read the first book in the series, Stateline, in 2014 (it was FREE and still is), was hooked, and have since read the other six.
The writing in Right Cross is excellent and the author doesn't waste a word. The sentences are crisp and sharp which adds a sense of urgency. It is difficult to comment on the story without being a spoiler but I read it in one session. It is entertaining, gripping and gritty.
Highly recommended. -
This series is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. The characters pop off the page, are relatable and seem real. I can’t wait for more. Will Candi be written out? One can hope.

The story in Right Cross is so riveting, I literally could not put it down. It’s always a thrill to revisit characters you’ve come to know and love, and that’s how I feel about Dan and Candi, and of course, Cody. Stanton’s ability to describe characters and landscapes puts you right into the scene. I feel as if I would know Dan and Cody if I met them on the street. After reading Stanton’s books, I feel as if I know the Lake Tahoe area, although I’ve never been there. Stanton’s writing has matured since the release of Stateline and he only continues to get better. His writing is tight, he doesn’t feel the need for anything more than to just tell the story. I appreciate that while he does write about some of the grittier sides of life, there is little foul language. I can’t wait to see what he will give us next.
