Very brief introduction to what perhaps is the most famous Dutch painting, ever. Jonathan Bikker mainly focuses on the way in which Rembrandt deviated from the traditional group portrait by smuggling a considerable number of strange elements into the painting. What I also didn't know is that in the 18th century about a fifth of the painting was cut to be able to fit it between two door frames, my God.
