The Nick Lawrence Series (Nick Lawrence #1-3) Reviews
-
Like the characters
Fast moving plot, lots of unexpected twists, definitely going to read the next book in this series and anything else he writes -
Loved the novels. Good plots, dynamite characters, and then, bam! No more books to read. Ok, I’ll just wait and hope!

The first three books in Brian Shea's Nick Lawrence series are overall entertaining.
I did notice while I was checking my reviews to come up with an aggregate score, the names on a couple of them have changed. I have a feeling that the books I read are first editions. I don't know if any substantial changes have been made with rebranding and republication, so my criticisms may no longer be valid.
Overall, Shea pairs his law enforcement experience and knowledge with a talent for creating memorable characters that beg for investment from the reader.
The first novel, KILL LIST, was entertaining but rough around the edges. The second novel, PURSUIT OF JUSTICE, was a bit more refined but still retained some of its rough edges. The third novel, BURNING TRUTH, was definitely the best of the three. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was completely devoid of the pitfalls of KILL LIST but it's apparent that Shea made considerable and demonstrable improvement in his craft over the course of the novels.
I'm definitely invested in the characters and I'm definitely eager to see their development, as well as Shea's continued development as an author. -
So far, so good.
Written by a genuine ex-cop, for a change.
HOWEVER: it is INCONCEIVABLE that no character seems to attach importance to the Texas football game—as a possible target.
This book is tedious, boring in places, and seems improbable and contrived.
But that’s okay. I guess; it’s not real obvious. -
One of the dumbest detectives around. Absolutely no common sense, can’t keep his word, always being beaten up, shot or stabbed. Couldn’t figure out a crime if he had to. 3 stories and he screws up every one. I don’t think I’ll waist my time on any more.

The series kept my attention throughout. The characters were realistic and entertaining. There wasn't a lull where I got bored, I was engaged during all the books.

I love this series. The action is great and I will read much more from this author. The details are authentic and I have a hard time putting the books down.
