For a young victim of human trafficking, FBI Agent Nick Lawrence is the only hope.

Nick Lawrence rejoins his old unit, the FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children task force.

The career move puts him in Austin, Texas—and onto the case of a young girl on the run.

She’s been thrust into a foreign land against her will. Armed only with a set of skills bestowed by her father, she embarks on a perilous journey to keep a promise—as she is hunted by a ruthless human trafficking ring.

Nick teams up with local law enforcement, intent on saving the girl and dismantling the criminal organization trying to reach her first. But as a greater conspiracy unfolds, Nick finds himself in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

The opposition is more powerful than he could have imagined—and they’re intent on silencing him, and the girl, forever.

With his second installment in the Nick Lawrence Series, Shea delivers a fast-paced, thrill-filled sequel to its well-received predecessor, KILL LIST.

3.4 stars? Not as good as the 1st but still okay. I wish that there had been more Nick & Declan interaction 😒, also, Izzy annoyed me quite a bit in this one.

Looks like Nick Lawrence, FBI Sex Crimes Unit, has been called to a crime scene, by Det Jones from the Austin Police Dept., which involves very young girls; approximate age 11-16. Apparently there was a noise complaint from a hotel about a very loud TV. When the police investigated it, they found a girl tied up by her hands and feet to the bed. The other six girls were found on the floor of the bathroom. This is the type of sex crime that really strikes at a law enforcement officer’s heart. The APD apprehended the criminal. He was in one of the interview rooms waiting to be interrogated. Nick can’t wait to interrogate this criminal. What will the perp tell him? will they be able to use the information to finally close down this horrible business?
Another truck with a number of people is on its way. This truckload was made up of male and female. The people who were too old for sex trafficking were sold to others to work as slaves, while the younger were used in sex trafficking. Little did the driver and his colleague know, but the smallest of the bunch was the one to look out for. Her name is Mouse. She waits for the perfect time to attack. The older gentleman tried to save her from the two, but he was knifed to death. Mouse took his belt and kept it safe. Her father taught her to wait for the perfect moment and then strike. That’s exactly what she did. She was able to kill the skinny one by kicking him in the throat and collapsing his trachea. The fat one didn’t know what hit him. She jumped on his back and put the belt around his throat. She pulled tighter and tighter, until he was dead. Now she’s wandering on the side of the road in the heat. She needs to get far away. Eventually the small town law enforcement was called, because she was found on the side of the road unconscious. She was treated, and Anaya Patel from Child Protective Services (CPS) was called to the area. Anaya was able to get Mouse to trust her and take her to her office, so Mouse could get some rest. When Anaya wasn’t watching, Mouse slipped out of the office. Where is she going? Nick, Det Jones, and Nick’s ex-partner, and his friend Declan all join forces to find this little girl. Apparently, each of the girls were branded with chips inserted in their hips. This would enable the traffickers to always be able to find the girls. Nick and his crew were running up against a timeline, and they knew they had to find her before the traffickers did, because they would kill her. She is in huge danger. The crew race across the country to help find her, while a trafficker is nipping at her heels. Will they find her before he does? They don’t have any idea of what this man looks like, so they are tracking him blindly. The traffickers have a huge plan in place to keep their business running. Will the crew be able to find out how to bring this organization down? The plot is written well, and the reader is taken on a fast-paced ride. The author has described the characters so that the reader can relate to them. The scenes were very graphic and puts the reader face-to-face with evil at its very core. The theme is multi-faceted and has many emotions rolling throughout the book. I enjoyed this book very much. The writing style keeps the reader constantly looking for more.

Book 2 of the Nick Lawrence series did not disappoint. Favorite characters from book 1 return for this nail-biter, plus we're introduced to a new person of interest, Anaya Patel, who appears to be warm for Nick's form, if you know what I'm getting at. Anyway, I'm totally into the series now. My only regret is I could have got the first three books at a discount on Amazon and instead bought them separately. LOL.

These are perfectly serviceable short crime novels. Pretty good to listen to during workouts or whatever when you don't have to pay super close attention. Not bad but really feels like plots you've read before in other books and some pretty cliche dialogue. Also weirdly the main character is probably the least interesting character. This was included with audible plus so it was fine.

(I am only 20% into this book and I am already thinking that it could be added to my
    Favorites shelf.)
I am finished reading this book and I was right-5 stars! (Thanks Mr Shea.) Now I have to read the first one, since I missed it when it was BOTM.

This is the second book I have read by this author. The first book floored and and the second book in the series’s was just as stunning. This book picks up some time after the first book in the series, The Camel’s Back. Is was so inthralled in this book. It was a series of edge of my seat reading as I tried to keep up with the energetic pace. If you are an adrenaline junkie, then this book is for you. I was so impressed with the character development. I was also impressed with how flawed the characters were. It was like they were misfit toys coming together for a good cause. This book gave me pause for a subject I feel deeply about, child abduction. The main character, Mouse, had moxie and a drive for living that was refreshing. It also helps the setting of this novel is deep in the heart of Texas. Awesome book!

Second in the series. I thought this one was more character driven than an action thriller. While there is some acton to keep the reader entertained, it's more about the chase. The protagonist, Nick Lawrence pursuing a child trafficking victim, the victim trying to avoid recapture, and the antagonist chasing after the escaped young girl.

Shea brings in a couple of characters from the first novel to keep the story going. Reading the first book is important for the reader to be able to follow relationships between characters.

Excellent! The second in the Nick Lawrence series. Fast-paced action thriller. I couldn’t put it down. The team is back again. This time they are up against a ring of wicked guys kidnapping and selling children into sex slavery. I continue to recommend this series.

Wow!!! Another intense read. The subject matter is nightmarish. Was hard to read some chapters. Not sure a fifteen year old could pull some of the stunts, but teenagers are a tough bunch. Even more so with some backgrounds. Read only if you have a strong constitution and expect nightmares. Title is fitting.

Not only was this a well written story, it is relevant topic for today’s work...

I can’t say enough about these books. I am truly enjoying reading them. Now it is on to Burning Truth.

Living in Austin, TX for over 30 years..I’ve enjoyed reading about streets, towns, places I know very well. Plus I really like the main characters in these books.

    Superb reading

Another great suspenseful tale. Can’t wait to read the next one. Glad he brought back Izzy and Declan, two great characters.

    Excellent story

On to the next book in this series. This was a thrilling read with several twists and turns. Plot was a little predictable but keep me interested until the satisfying conclusion. Would have liked a more extensive wrap up but hope the next story will fill in.

Even though this is the 2nd book in the series I did quite enjoyed it. The story is torn right from today's headlines which makes the story too realistic. The story flows and puts you in the middle of it. You root for the good guys and are sad when something happens. Definitely would recommend this book to all.
